Macbook power cable damaged

basically my power cable that came with my 2013 macbook pro seems to have like a rip in it but stills works so i have taped it up. But was wondering do you think i could get apple to replace it under warranty? even though it works.

The power adapter has the same warranty as the MBA it came with.  Bring it in to an Apple store (with the MBA).
Ciao.

  • MacBook Power Cable Flashes Red! Computer Dies!

Hi, i have a macbook and the laptop battery broke a few months a go and now it only works whilst using a power cable. But over the past 2 weeks i have found that the light on the power cable sometimes flashes red and then the laptop dies, do you think this is a problem with the cable? and getting a new one would fix it? or is it a problem with the laptop its self.
    Help

    Hi LexSchellings,
Thank you for your quick response.
My 15" MacBook Pro was bought in March 2010 and has recently been upgraded to Lion OS. The MBPro has been playing up for a while, so I have also had the hard drive and the motherboard replaced. In fact, I picked it up from Apple less than a week ago with the replaced motherboard. The reason for replacing the motherboard was because the MBPro was crashing all the time.
It was running fine all week including last night, but when I tried to switch it on this morning it was dead. Since the powercable that came with the MBPro did not show a light at all when connected, I tried an older powercable and this is when I noticed that the amber light was flashing.
I'm taking it in to a Geniuys bar tomorrow, so hopefully they should be able to sort it out.
Again, many thanks for your response.

  • Can I buy a new power cable?

My MacBook power cable is falling appart; the plastic is wearing away and it will only charge when it's positioned in certain ways. I was wondering if there was anyway I could buy a new power cable for my MacBook and how much it would cost. I would really appreciate it if I could get a new one for relatively cheap.

You can get a new third party 60W power adapter on eBay for under $20.

  • HT1338 Power cable for Macbook not working / Apple Care discount?

My power cable for my Macbook stopped working. I went to the bookstore at my school and at first they told me I could get a discount on a new one ($29 instead of $79) because I have Apple Care. Then they told me that was a mistake and I have to pay full price even though I have Apple Care... True/false????

It appears your Macbook is at least 2 years old. If you have the extended warranty and there is no physicla damage to your power adapter, then you "might" be eligible for a free replacement.
Have you tried replacing the duckhead adapter yet? That's the part that normally fails first.

  • Damaged power cable

I only bought my first macbook pro in September but it has been giving me some troubles. first after it goes to sleep while charging, when I try to turn it on it goes back to sleep for a second time without me doing anything.
And now (I have no idea how it happened although it has only been in my desk) my power cable has some damages that I believe are not very safe. There are two holes where I can see some kind of wires (silver). Does apple replace it for free?

Te only thing you can do is take the system and the AC charger to Apple and have them look at it. If they determine the power cord damage is from a manufacturing defect they will replace it under warranty. If they determine it is from User Abuse, whether it is or not, then they will not replace it and you will need to buy a new one.
Do you have any animals in the house, like a cat? If so it may be that beast that caused the damage. Cats seem to love the Apple AC charger cables.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 DVI HDMI out does not work with TV when the power cable is connected

My Macbook Pro (Early 2011) DVI HDMI out does not work with TV when the power cable is connected. If get the blue screen and then can use the macbook but nothing is displayed on the TV. If i go into display I can see that there are two screens but nothing displayed on the TV. If i take the power cable out at this point the TV shows the second desktop as expected. If i then reconnect the cable, the screen flickers, as though it is being affected by the power cable, and the screen goes blank on the TV. Only if i remove the DVI cable do i get the blue screen again. If i remove the power cable and reconnect it will do it every single time, so i cannot see it being a TV issue or a minor glitch.
I have had this working previously but at the minute it seems to not be playing ball....any thoughts
    Thanks

  • Can I connect my thunderbolt display's power cable to supply power to the new retina display macbook pro?

I'm planning to buy a new retina display macbook pro, but I have a thunderbolt display and I use the display's power cable to supply the power to a macbook air. As the power connector on the new macbook pro is differet, It looks to me that I won't be able to connect it to the new computer. I'm I correct?

You'll just need this adapter, which you can buy or order with the computer:

Use the MagSafe to MagSafe 2 Converter > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD504ZM/A/magsafe-to-magsafe-2-converter?fnode =51 However, note that the MacBook Air doesn't provide enough energy to charge the MacBook Pro with Retina display, so it could not work

  • Macbook Pro power cables

    Hi
I bought I macbook pro in the summer of 2009 and then in 2010 I dropped it on the floor and this summer got a replacement. I'm pretty sure the new MBP I have has some sort of different power going to it than my old MBP - I believe the new MBP functions on less wattage.
My question is whether using my old power cable with my new MBP is in any way dangerous. I'm not talking about my mac exploding or anything like that, but, for instance, my isight camera has stopped function, and I'm worried it might be because of too much power coming to it from using (occasionally) my old MBP power cable, and perhaps burning it out in some way.
Is this possible? Should I be sticking to only using my new power cable, or will it make no real difference?
    Thanks for any help.

to supplement the above. Apple portables can actually pull more power than the power adapters even the 85W one can supply thus is why it is ok to use an adapter with a higher wattage than the one that came with your machine. This is also why if you run your apple portable with the battery pulled out, the portable will run at reduced speed.
found this out when my pre-unibody mbp battery bloated on me and i couldn't get a replacement for a week while i live and had to deal with an extremely slow machine

  • Where does the power cable connect in a macbook air 13.3?

won't bore you with the details why but before I buy a macbook air I would like to know what part of the machine the power cable goes in to please?

Perhaps this will help.  I've circled the port:
Also note the port is a "MagSafe" meaning that the connection is magnetic -- if someone walks into the cable, it will come loose from the port fairly easily (instead of ripping).
    UPDATE - Corrected image circle.

  • Macbook powers on by itself when i connect the power cable

    Hi,
Since Leopard, my Macbook has decided to no longer rely on the stupid user pushing the power button. It simply switches itself on every time i connect the power cable
You know: I often come home in the evenings with a drained battery, connect the cable and charge the battery overnight. I don't want to switch the baby on. But my Macbook thinks otherwise.
First i thought it maybe have somthing to do with the hardware-energy settings (power on after power loss), but the option is disabled.
So what? Has the Macbook become more intelligent or am I just to stupid to find the right option? (Care what you say..!)
    Cheers,
    Fox

    Hello World!
No one here who can help me?
I simply want to use the Power Button for what it is for. I don't want my Macbook to switch itself on everytime i plug in the power cable.
This behaviour is only since 10.5 install (I did archive&install)

  • My MacBook won't start up, not even with a power cable, after the battery had been completely emptied.

My daughter worked on the MacBook wirelessly yesterday until the battery was completely emptied. So I plugged in the Mac power cable and left it on all night long in order to recharge the battery. This morning I tried to restart the MacBook, but nothing happens.Does anyone know what can be done?

  • I recently bought a Macbook Air and a Thunderbolt Display and the laptop's power is supposed to come from the display, but the power cable on the display does not fit into the Macbook Air.

I recently bought a 11" Macbook Air and a 27" Thunderbolt Display. The laptop's power is supposed to come from the display when connected, but the power cable on the display does not fit into the Macbook Air.

If your MBair is a 2012 model, it has a Magsafe 2 power connection.  The monitor probably has the old magsafe connection.  If this is the case, you need this adapter.

  • My macbook will not charge and turns off completely when I remove the power cable.  can anyone help?

The battery is sitting at 75% and has not moved even though it is plugged into the mains.  It will not switch on unless connected to the power cable and turns straight off when disconnected.  The wee green light is on the cable is on when plugged in so its not the power cable.  Could it be my battery?  the I only bought this two years ago.
    Please help.
