Macbook Pro slow all of a sudden
My mid 2012 Macbook Pro has recently and suddenly become cripplingly slow for no obvious reason. I normally have Chrome and firefox open at the same time and they both run simultaneously very smoothly, up until four or five days ago. Now, launching any application is far slower than it used to be and I see the spinning beachball of death far too often and for the tiniest littlest things, like if I right click a link or something the little options bar won't come up until the beachball has stopped.
Watching videos on youtube is almost impossible as the video lags at times for no reason and the sound will keep going but the video will stop and all i'll be able to do is move my mouse. Or sometimes the video just stops all together. This is with a FULL buffer bar! While scrolling down webpages I am also met with lag a lot of the time. It has made my laptop unusable at times. I have tried reseting the SMC and PRAM to no avail. And If I shut my laptop lid and leave it on I come back to the fan running very loudly and the Macbook being very hot even with nothing running. I updated my software about 2 days ago after the slowness started happening and the update took two hours just to install even though it said "15 minutes remaining". Obviously, the update did not work. At the worst of times, clicking on anything results in the beachball. I have restarted my macbook multiple times and sometimes it becomes usable for a while before eventually lagging with literally everything I do.
Please help in any way you can!
Thanks in advance!!
Wow, thanks for replying so soon!

Why is my Macbook Pro slow all of a sudden?
Question repost as the first question posted, only received one answer that did not assist at all, unfortunately.
I have a 2013 Macbook Pro that i purchased earlier this year. My second. First one had 0 problems, ever. I upgraded from 8 to 16gb of RAM, and it was running just as it should. All of a sudden, and without any warning, it has slowed to a snails pace on just about everything. I get the pinwheel of death constantly, it's taking 20-30 minutes to move 1.77GB of data, which used to take under 1 minute. Programs are slow to open, and the stalling is constant. I've read a few forums, and all signs seem to point to the beginning of a HD failure? Can someone please assist?
Sidenote: i went and checked the disc permissions, which did show many errors, all of which, however, i repaired. It started working again fairly well for a day, and is now back to the same level of slow. What could this be? Please help.Question repost as the first question posted, only received one answer that did not assist at all, unfortunately.

What do you mean it did not work! What were the results of the diagnostic tests?
Have you contacted your ISP to determine if the problem is on their end?
Have you changed your router channel? Sometimes this resolves wireless problems.

Macbook running slow all of a sudden!
Hello,
My macbook (late 2011) has started running crazy slow out of nowhere. I'm on 10.7.5 I know it's old but I write music and I cannot update the OS because I'm in the middle of a project. I'm backing up the hard drive right now. Here's what I've done so far any advice would be greatly appreciated:
Repaired Disc permissions.
Deleted Chrome.
Reset the System Management Controller.
I have 100 Gig free on my hard drive.
It's not a ram issue as things have been running great until yesterday with no program changes.
Thanks for your time. Here's the report. I used Adware Medic to remove "searchme". But it's still in the report even though Adware says it's all clear.
Problem description:

I successfully paired a Bluetooth HMDX Jam Classic Wireless Speaker with my macbook and have been using it for months. Then suddenly it will not work. Has anyone else had this problem. It isn't the speaker. The best buy guys tested it and it still works with other devises. Got any ideas?

Is there something I can do at home to fix it? I don'y have time to bring it to the apple store.
If you don't have time for the Apple Store then put the computer in a closet until you do. Then make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

I have ms office 2011 for mac. I cannot open the "word" program. Everything else powerpoint and excel works just fine. The problem is with word only. The icon just bounces until I force quit. I tried to reinstall, repaired permissions, etc. please help.
Try posting on the MS Office for Mac user forums - here's a direct link to the Word forum - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macword.
It might be that you just need to update. Do you have the Office updater set to check for updates every week or so? Note that the updater actually only works when you restart or cold boot.
Try the forum - they've always been very helpful for me...

My macbook pro's screen display has suddenly gone into a strange colour setting where everything appears in a kind of infrared colour palette an I can;t seem to change it back. It's the same for all icon and websites, does anyone know how to restore?
Wow! I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside. Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly. It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle. Of course I took no pictures!!! I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress... The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect. After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though. There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top. After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen. I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background. After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle. After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange. But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out. -
My Macbook Pro purchased Dec 2011 has suddenly become very slow after not using for 2 weeks (close to frozen). What is the problem and how to solve it?
Need Help Ye,
boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Is it still very slow? -
My Macbook pro OS 10.10.2 suddenly will not communicate with my Cannon MX890 printer. I reset all printers and now I cannot seem to add a printer by using the Add a printer function. Ideas?
The appearance of the printer in the Default view of the Add printer window relies on a protocol called Bonjour. There have been quite a few users who upgraded to Yosemite only to find that their wifi printer is no longer visible. Until Apple resolves this issue you can add your printer using the LPD protocol. To do so you will need to determine the IP address being used by the MX890. This can be done via the touch panel under Device Settings > Network Settings.
Once you learn the IP address then on the Mac you can click to add the printer and select the IP icon. Here you can enter the IP address, set the Protocol to Line Printer Deamon and leave the Queue field blank. Then change the name to Canon MX890 and in the Use menu, browse for the Canon MX890 series driver. Then click Add to complete the printer creation. -
Mid 2010 macbook pro slow to sleep. No print queu issues.
Hey everyone! My Mid 2010 macbook pro slow is slow to go to sleep. I have read several community forums and I've checked for old print jobs (which seems to be a common issue) and have found none. I've also reset all printers and jobs. Anyways, it takes 35 to 60 seconds to go sleep (until fan/harddrive turns off/I see blinking white light). This slow sleep occurs even with a complete fresh install of Mavericks, and even after installing a new SSD. I am honestly at a loss.
I did the "pmset -g log" command and I have found two reoccurring things that I think might be the reason (though I don't really understand it fully). I commonly see "TimedOut InternalPreventSleep "com.apple.powermanagement.darkwakelinger" 00:00:15" commonly and "PreventUserIdleSystemSleep "Address Book Source Sync" 00:00:30". Why is my Macbook Pro slow to wake after sleep?
Why is my Macbook Pro slow to wake after sleep?
I am having the same issue. I hook it up to the charger in the evening and close the lid. When I go to use it the next time it takes a good 30 seconds or so to wake up. The screen shows the log in screen but typing doesn't work and the cursor is frozen. Sometimes it will even give the rainbow wheel for the cursor, so it seem like it is processing whatever to get going. I also notice that my battery won't be fully charged at anywhere from 95%-99% after being charged a full evening. What can I do to change whatever is happening because it is pretty crappy to charge it all night expecting to have a full battery for the next use, plus the issue of having to sit there waiting for it to boot every time.

Why is my MacBook Pro slow? Beach ball

"Why is my MacBook Pro slow?" brings "screen tearing issue" and other things not related to my problem.
I got and ran Easyfind, and got rid of MacKeeper.
What else do I need to do?
I have the beach ball way too often.
I just made an iMovie, but optimizing it for YouTube is impossible. Boxes keep getting grayed out; complete hangup.
Can easyfind help further?
Thank you.Hi Tomo 2,
Kim Komando said get Sophos, so I did. I see it found something called Bredo-K on Nov. 22.
It's now scanning my OVER 5 MILLION FILES. Seriously, I don't think I need that many.
Right now about 50% of CPU idle,
about 1.03 GB Ram free.
Sophos is using about 90% of whatever.
This scanning could take all weekend. I need to get rid of some stuff. Hard to know what, though.
Thanks for any more ideas.
Jerry

I originally resurrected an older abandoned thread: make ulimit changes permanent but a kind forum moderator has split my post away so that it stands on its own merits instead of distracting from that person's earlier issue. My issue is ... I am in n
