Mail 7.0 continually re-enables "Store deleted messages on server"

I have to say that I am beyond frustrated with the way Mail 7.0 keeps checking the box to "Store deleted messages on server" for my outlook.com IMAP email account.  I have searched for hours on the web for a solution and nothing has worked for me.
The effect of this is when I delete a message in the Mail app on my MacBook Pro, the message remains on the server and appears Mail on my other IOS devices (IPhone, IPad) and in other email application (Outlook 2011).  However, deleting a message on another IOS device, via another email application or through the web works as expected.
-I have unchecked the "Store deleted messages on server" box and it magically checks itself again
-I have deleted and added the outlook.com account back to Mail
-I have deleted the com.apple.mail.plist file
-I have scoured the outlook.com settings on the website for a solution to no avail
Does anyone know what the h*** is going on and why Mail keeps changing this setting back?

One problem jumps out at me right away, when you close your folder, you specify false, change this to true and that should delete all the messages on the server that were marked as DELETE:
in the last few lines, change:
folder.close(false);
to:
folder.close(true);
you will still need to use:
message.setFlag(Flags.Flag.DELETED,true);
to set the flag of the messages you wish to delete.

  • How do I get iPhone to store deleted messages in MobileMe trash?

Here's the scenario: I have a Mac Pro, MacBook and iPhone 4. I use IMAP MobileMe with Mail.app for email while at home, and while I'm away and don't have my MacBook with me, I use the MobileMe web interface. I want all of my deleted messages from these different sources to end up in the same Trash mailbox on the server. I thought I had all of my devices set up to do that, but what's happening now is that when I delete a message from the iPhone, it goes into a folder called "Deleted Messages" in my MobileMe folders list.
On my Macs I have "Store deleted messages on server" checked, and "Erase deleted messages" set to "never". On my iPhone I've set the trash to "On the Server > Deleted Messages (.Mac)". This description appears next to the trash can icon, which I assumed would be where my deleted messages from Mail.app are going. But this doesn't seem to be the case.
    Any ideas?

I haven't tried this, but browsing in private browsing (Tools > Start Private Browsing) while doing will probably keep Firefox from storing which sites you visited. Clearing the last hour's history will probably do the trick too.

  • In mail, I unchecked store deleted messages on the server and now I have 2 (duplicate) iCloud IMAP accounts in mail. If I delete one, will I loose my mail?

If I delete one of my duplicate ICloud accounts, will I loose all my mail? I was searching for where I was getting the deleted mail and unchecked the store deleted messages on the server. That made changes to my account and now under accounts in mail I have the same account twice. I do not want to loose my mail and am affraid to delete one of the accounts.

Im trying to avoid a reinstall so am hoping there is a supporting file I have missed that can be trashed. I have also just tried trashing the ~/library/mail folder but there is no change to the check box behaviour.

  • "Delete messages from server" Mail iPhone 5

Hi, I am trying to locate "delete messages from server" option in Mail Settings on iPhone 5 and can't find it. In iPhone 4 it was just in the Advanced settings but it is not there in iPhone 5. Help please? Thanks

Not sure who your email provider is. Mine is hotmail. When you set up email with hotmail on an iPhone 4 the delete from server never is available. I just got an iPhone 5, i reset up my hot mail account and can't find that setting either. I set it up by using the hotmail button not "other" so meaning delete your hotmail account from your phone. Then re set it up. But when you do add email account, don't use the button that says hotmail. Use the bottom choice that says "other". I have no idea why this is different but if you do this it will set up hotmail just the same. But now that setting is there. The "delete from server" and you set it to "never". Now when you delete the emails from your hot mail account on the iPhone, it leaves that email on the hotmail server. So when you look at email on the computer it's there still. It's good this way if you share email with someone.

  • How to stop iOS7 Mail from deleting messages from server?

Recently I started using an iPhone 5S after over four years with an iPod Touch. The Mail app on the iPhone deletes messages from my server. I do not want it to do this, I cannot find the option to turn off in Settings, and the iOS Mail help page at Apple Support is for an older OS version. Insight and advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think I figured out a workaround at least.  It appears that the "Power Nap" feature is doing the mail checking.  Although the concise descriptions of Power Nap say it "allows your Mac to do things like periodically check for new mail, calendar, and other iCloud updates" (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5394?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US), it apparently doesn't just allow these actions, it does them -- regardless of your mail settings.  I suspect this is a bug.
Turning off Power Nap (in the Energy Saver panel in System Preferences) stopped the unwanted mail fetching, but unfortunately that also means that I don't get the benefit of the other activities it does, like Spotlight indexing. There are two places to turn it off, one for the "Battery" tab and one for the "Power Adapter" tab.
Since Power Nap was introduced with Mountain Lion, but I never had the problem until Mavericks, I assume that either (1) Power Nap was off by default in Mountain Lion but is on by default in Mavericks, or (2) this is another of several Mail problems introduced by Mavericks.

  • Mail: Delete message on server when I delete it in Mail

    Dear all,
I just recently switched from Windows to Mac and especially from MS Outlook to Mail. In Outlook I can tell it to only delete a message on the server when I delete it in Outlook. This is very helpful, so that when I use WebMail I do not see all the junk mail messages and other emails I deleted. Now in Mail I do not seem to be able to do this. Any ideas ?
    Thanks,

Go to Preferences, Accounts. Select the account you wish to configure. Click the Advanced Pane. Make sure the checkbox is checked for 'Remove copy from server after retrieving a message'. In the drop down just below that, choose 'When moved from Inbox'. This will let you retrieve a copy of the messages to your Mac, leaving a copy on the server. As long as you leave the message in your Inbox, the copy will stay on the server. If you then delete your local copy, or move it out of the Inbox, the next time you retrieve new messages from the server, the messages you have moved will be deleted from the server. The key is that there has to be at least one new message to retrieve. This works for me most of the time, since by the time I process the messages I already have, and then check for new messages, there usually are new messages. If you have a mail account that is not that active, or you just want to remove the most recent messages from the server, use the Get Info method above.

  • IOS 8.12 Apple Mail for Exchange Account Deletes Message from Server

Both my computers are set to leave Exchange emails on the server, but I can't find how to set this on my iPhone. So, if I happen to first open a message on my phone, it's no longer available when I open Apple Mail on either of my computers. I need the messages on my iMac and MacBook Pro--not just on my iPhone. How can I change the settings on my iPhone so that Exchange doesn’t delete messages once they're downloaded to the phone? Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer. --Bill

Thanks, Glenn. I get as far as the Advanced Settings screen, and there are 3 items for choices:
    • Use SLL - on
    • Move Discarded Messages into:
      Deleted Mailbox - check
      Archive Mailbox - not checked
    • S/MIME
      S/MIME - off
I don't see how I can choose to NOT delete messages. (I'm assuming that the Move Discarded Messages into: Deleted Mailbox is a setting to tell iOS 8 what to do with a message that I choose to delete from my iPhone.)
    Any further guidance?
    thanks,
    Bill

Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    Or quit mail and restart.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Delete messages from server?

    Hi Guys,
I have a question regarding mail management.
    Here is my situation:
I have a GMX e-mail account; when I manage my e-mail on a computer (any computer), I always use the web-based e-mail straight from the website. I have this e-mail address configured in Mail on my iPad as an IMAP account. When I check my mail via iPad, it shows me my current inbox, but if I delete messages from iPad, it moves the message to trash, but does not reflect this on the server. So when I go to login to my account from a regular computer, any e-mail(s) that I have deleted through my iPad are still in my inbox at the GMX website.
On my iPad, I have turned Push to Off and I have Fetch set to manual, whenever I launch Mail. I have tried hitting the refresh on my iPad after I move a message to Trash, and my iPad's Mail settings are set to move deleted items to the "Trash" folder on the GMX server. Sending and receiving e-mails are no problem.
What am I doing wrong here? I am tired of deleting messages on my iPad (such as spam) and then having to go onto a computer and login to GMX and delete them again.
Btw, same exact issue on my iPhone with exact same e-mail settings.
    Thanks,
    Emile

    Thanks for the tip, Ralph.
I just went over to the GMX website and went to their support forum and apparently this is a known problem when accessing e-mail through an IMAP or POP3 e-mail client. A post was made at the end of August saying they are aware of the problem and are trying to fix it.
I've had this issue with my GMX account since my first-generation iPhone and they've just realized it a month and a half ago. I wonder how long it's going to take for them to repair the issue, sheesh!
I will mark this thread as resolved but since I just have to wait for GMX to fix the problem on their side. At least we got to the bottom of this, thanks for the help guys.

  • Delete messages from server when deleted from iTouch doesn't work

    Hi everybody,
    Two questions really...
One is that with my 2nd gen iTouch I was able to set IMAP settings and it would show all of the folders (other than Inbox) that I have created on my mail account. The 4th gen iTouch doesn't seem to let me see the sub-folders.
The second is that I have my account set to delete messages from the server when they are deleted from my Inbox, but that simply doesn't work.
This is withe the iTouch 4 and OS 4.1 (8B117)
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Is it possible that I have the wrong Server Port entered? I didn't fill in that field at all. I think it was filled in automatically. I guess I would have to contact my hosting company's support team to know what the server port is.

  • Stop deleting messages from server

since I updated to iOS5, when I delete messages on iPhone it deletes from my gmail server and I don't want it to, Help?

  • OS2 Messages program - deleting messages from server

The email client is deleting messages from the server - even though keep messages on server is "on".  This is a big issue for those of us who download messages to our pc's.

Ive been playing around with a test account.
Upon first setting up the account on the PB, I have the "keep messages on server" set to ON.  I then checked the mail and it downloaded onto the PB.- then checked the server via webmail and the messages were gone from the inbox..
I then turned the feature OFF in the PB and checked mail again.  After that, I turned  the feature back ON and the mail stayed on the server afterward.
I'm not sure why this is - but it occurred with every new account I set up on the PB.

  • Deleting Messages from Server Using Different Computers

I access my mail from a number of different computers and devices and I would like to be able to delete a message from the server when I delete it from any of the computers/devices so that when I check my mail from a different computer/device, the previously deleted message is no longer there.
As it is now, the only option I seem to have is to remove the message from the server after I have retrieved my mail. As a result, I have to maintain one master computer for my mail and only when I delete messages from that computer are they deleted from the server.
So, is there a way to delete a message from the server after I have deleted it from any of my computers or devices?
BTW, I am using a POP account.

I'm using Imap (1and1.com) I have noticed that when email gets automatically deleted off my sever it's later missing from Mail. I cannot find any setting in Mail to keep all my email or a setting on my server to keep my mail. I often have to refernce back to business emails.
    Help...

  • Gmail "All Mail" folder.  Why can I not delete messages?

i am new to the Mac community.  When I open Mail, I have a Gmail folder labelled "All Mail".  This folder loaded over 10600 messages from my earlier email activity on a PC.  Every time I try to delete any of them, the messages just load back into the folder.  Is this normal?.  i can move messages to the "Bin" folder, but they still cannot be deleted.  Are these messages taking up hard disc space on my new iMac?  If so what can I do about it?

I have a different but related question re Gmail's "All Mail" folder: will Gmail get confused if there are emails in folders (tags) that don't have a corresponding copy in the All Mail folder?
    CONTEXT:
In my Mac's mail app, I have several accounts (a couple Gmail accts, my icloud acct, etc.).  Thus far I've been moving mail from my main Gmail acct into my folders (tags) in that Gmail acct, to store them after I've read / acted on them. E.g., I have a folder for 2013Q1, 2012Q4, 2012Q3, etc. -- these comprise basically a chron-based, self-managed set of archive folders. I even started moving mail from the Sent folder into these folders.
However, I'd like to also start moving mail from my NON-Gmail accts to that main Gmail acct and store them in the same folders.  I see that when I move a mail from, say, my iCloud acct, it does show up in the target Gmail folder, but there is NO copy of that mail showing up in the Gmail "All Mail" folder.
Is that a problem?  It seems to me that Gmail's All Mail folder is there as a master-index to mail in various folders (tags) ... so is it a problem to have a mail is in a Gmail folder without being in All Mail?  (I think the same question would apply if someone wanted to delete mail from Gmail's All Mail folder -- can it be done without harming the copy in other folders?  (An example that's not directly on-point: I've considered deleting those myriad drafts that get uploaded to Gmail automatically when you are drafting a message -- but in that case, only the final draft is in another Gmail folder.)
    Thanks!
