  • Changing Preferred Language leaves Mail.app's FLAGS menu showing the last non-English language

After changing the System's Preferred Language to FRANCAIS, then back again to BRITISH ENGLISH, I've found that the FLAGS menu of MAIL.APP will not change back to ENGLISH.
    e.g.
    - I change the Preferred Language setting to FRANCAIS,
    - I restart Mail.app.
    - I change the Preferred Language setting to BRITISH ENGLISH
    - I restart Mail.app.
The Flags menu is still in FRANCAIS. Every other menu is using the correct language
    - I then change the Preferred Language to ESPANOL
    - I restart Mail.app
    - I change the Preferred Language setting to BRITISH ENGLISH
The Flags Menu is now in ESPANOL.
It seems I can change the FLAGS menu to anything other than ENGLISH or BRITISH ENGLISH.
Rebooting between changes and/or leaving Mail.app open or closed seems to make no difference.
It's quite annoying as I make extensive use of keyboard shortcuts to flag emails....!
    Any clues?

I should point out that every other menu is changing correctly to reflect the Preferred Language. It is just the FLAGS menu that is not changing to english.

  • Is there any way to edit an email address in the iPad mail app once it has been highlighted?

To try and clarify the above, when I type an email address in the address field, in the Mail app, and then hit the space bar, the email address becomes highlighted. If I then want to edit the email address I cannot for the life of me work out how to do it without deleting it and typing it out again.

Neither can I. I just think that is the way the app works. If there is a way, I would like to know myself.

  • Mail app subject line errors

    Hello all.
I subscribe to e-mails sent by the Government of Canada. In Apple Mail, the subject line is garbled, as follows:
=?ISO-8859-1?Q?Reminder - Briefing on the Prime Minister's Visit to France for the G-8 Sum?=          mit and to Greece
Is there any way to correct this so Mail displays the correct subject line, without weird coding and font problems? The problem only occurs with messages from this sender in particular. Outlook handles these messages without any problem, but I prefer to use Mail.
    Many thanks for any advice.

@Baron875, your answer is not entirely correct. Your method does NOT save all the original data. The original date of the message is changed to the date and time that you edited it! For business, this fixes one problem but creates another!! The only real answer to this question, which has been frustrating me ever since I switched to Mac, is to go back to Microsoft Outlook where it is simple to change the subject line... something that should be a no-brainer function for any mail client programmer. I really like Mail overall, but some of these idiotic shortfalls drive me nuts. I am becoming more and more convinced that Apple does NOT have the brightest programmers, as some people like to think.

  • Running Windows 7 Home Premium, Firefox 7.0.1, File/Print won't work (doesn't open print dialog box) nor does control+ p nor will right click context menu ever highlight Print selection option after selecting part of a page, ie no printing whatsoever.

Previous versions of Firefox all printed. All other browsers, programs - Word, Outlook, IE 9, Live Mail, Excel, Adobe files/documents, etc. print. Have more Add-ons than list of plugins below. Can email jpg. screenshots of all printer settings in about:config. Can't paste them here or below.

  • Mail.app adding double spaces

Recently Mail.app has started to replace some single sword spaces in plain-text e-mails with double spaces. I ran some tests and it seems to occur at regular intervals. Every 60+ characters, Mail.app adds a double space between words instead of a single one.
Every message shows up correctly in the "Sent" folder but when I check Hotmail, for example, there are suddenly double spaces popping up here and there. I've checked my e-mail on university campus with another e-mail client (Horde) and it also displayed double spaces every 60 characters or so.
I've tried another POP-account and the problem persisted. I've trashed the Mail.app .plist and the problem is still there. I've looked at every setting in the "Preferences" menu and the problem is still present.
I don't have the first clue what is wrong or how to fix this.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I believe I have a fix; this at least worked for me on both machines (home and work) that were exhibiting this issue:
Quit Mail and Safari (the latter may be voodoo on my part, but why not?)
Open Users -> <username> -> Library -> Mail -> V2 -> MailData (In OS X 10.8, the easy shortcut to the Library folder, which is hidden, is to hold down the Option key and click on the Go menu in the Finder; it'll appear as an option without a keyboard shortcut.)
Move all files with names that begin "Envelope Index" to the Trash. I had three such files.
Restart (again, this may be voodoo)
Open Mail. It will engage in a full reindexing of all your messages. I had about 65,000 messages, and this import/index process took about 10 minutes.
Once import is complete, your inboxes may appear to be empty. I had to quit Mail and relaunch it before all my messages were visible.
After some quick testing on previously problematic emails, the super annoying line break bug seems to be gone!

  • Context menu for chart not accessible when VI is running

    Hi
I've got several LabView programs, all showing a chart to display data received via RS232.
In all my application i can change update mode, autoscale etc. by right click on the chart (context menu). In one of my app the context menu does not pop up. Why? Couldn't find any option that would block this menu.
    Thanks
    Alex

    Hello Alex,
create a property node with your VIs reference and set 'Front Panel

  • Blank Message Window when starting Mail.app

Anyone experiencing this in Snow Leopard? Occasionally when I start up Mail.app there will be nothing in the message viewer, "Inbox" is selected still but no messages show and the top bar says Inbox where it usually says Inbox (No. of messages here).
I have to select another folder and then select "Inbox" again before anything shows. I did a clean install + import of mboxes and I already did a rebuild. Just getting a bit irritating.

same situation here. After installing SL on two other Macs the third one is having problems with the Mail app. It starts and is just showing the menubar; no window not even a blank one. After installing just the Mail app again from the DVD, Mail starts and I can get the main window from the menu (Fenster -> Hauptfenster) but I can only see the Mail folders in the left pane, *no message list*, *no preview content*
Even worse, I can't quit the Mail app using the menu. I have to do a *force quit* within the Finder.
I have searched this forum and tryed all the (good) suggestions without success.
    What's next?

  • Why "Outlook Express" users can't read email from Mail.app ?

Why "Outlook Express" users can't read email from Mail.app ? Any explanation ? Select a good format, that's a good explanation, but i can't know each time if our recipients use "Outlook Express".

There are no completely bug free email clients including the Mail.app and Outlook has its share of bugs for such an old/mature email clients and some glaring ones that MS has been aware of for a long time but has chosen not to do anything about since these do not affect exchanging email with other Outlook users.
Outlook has always had problems with Mail's RTF and the degree depending on the Windows and Outlook versions used by the recipient.

  • Why did Word on Office 2013 REMOVE Auto Correct from Right-Click Context Menu??

    Hi Microsoft -
I normally don't rant, but this is a killer feature removal, and the reason given is for aesthetics - 'Removal of clutter" is how it's worded here:
    [Changes in Office 2013]
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc178954(en-us).aspx
I copy n pasted below the operative row from the linked TechNet page as to the reason WHY this critical (and very popular feature) has been removed from Microsoft Office 2013 Word's context-menu: LESS CLUTTER
And your answer is ambiguous and doesn't solve the issue that you created to make things prettier: "Click the AutoCorrect Options button" Then what?  ADD EACH WORD MANUALLY?
Please advise ALL OF US that want this feature back how to have our commonly misspelled words fixed and added automatically to the dictionary.  If I am missing this in a major way somehow, I apologize completely and will issue a public apology via any
social media platform of your choice.  If it really is gone, and I have to manually add the entries into a buried table 6-clicks deep, then I will issue a public excoriation of this feature on as many social platforms of my choice.
    Sincerely,
    Maximus Mednick

    Modifying the feature
Auto-Correct and certain formatting tools are no longer available from the spelling error context menu.
To make Word 2013 cleaner and less cluttered, we removed AutoCorrect and certain formatting tools from the spelling error context menu. The features are still available in Word 2013 through other entry points within the Word user interface.
Less clutter in the spelling error context menu. This enables users to find popular commands more quickly. In addition, the spelling error context menu now fits better on the screen.
To change AutoCorrect options, do the following:
Choose File -> Options -> Proofing
    Choose the AutoCorrect Options button.

Microsoft used to be about allowing users to customize the OS and apps however they want. This was one reason I have always preferred Windows over Mac. There are 5 ways to do any one thing, and you can customize it to do it however you want. It's all about
user choice. Please don't go the way of Apple and force users into the way that you *think* we should do things.
    <rant>
While I whole heartedly agree with this suggestion, if you look through this blog about the design decisions that went into the 2007 ribbon:
Jensen Harris: An Office User Interface Blog -
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jensenh/archive/2008/03/12/table-of-contents.aspx
You'll see that one of the considerations of the ribbon was to ELIMINATE/REDUCE customization because it was costing large corporate customers too much time/money to support their users with 2003 customized menu/toolbars.  In other words, the ribbon
was intentionally built as a fixed design so that average user cannot change it.  The QAT was an afterthought, a sop, to allow users minimal customization.
They found that the 2007 lock down was too much of a "good thing", too much like the good old "IBM 360 green screen" (even if most people don't recognize the reference), so in 2010 they
re-introduced limited Ribbon customization within the UI.
But you still can't customize the default tabs. And to add injury to insult, if you do want to customize a default tab and go to the effort of trying to recreate the default tabs and groups
within the Ribbon UI, you'll eventually find that YOU CAN'T'! There is no way inside the UI to force the buttons to layout the same way! AHHH!
    Even in 2007,
EXPERTS have had the option of creating custom Ribbons/tabs by editing XML, but that is pretty serious programming, out of scope for 99% of users.
The "solution" to the problem was too simple. Just add an option to allow users to turn on the old menu UI.  Even if it had been buried as a registry hack, the people who really wanted it would have learned about it. Then MS could have collected statistics
on usage that would have "proved" that the menu was preferred over the ribbon.  The thing is, if the ribbon was defaulted "out of the box", over time people would eventually all switch over to it. Simply because it was the default, because MS only produced
new training material referring for the ribbon
Now, I'll concede that the ribbon really may be more "intuitive", but only for new users. For long time users the change is very jarring.
They made the same choice with Windows 8.  In the last Windows 8 consumer Preview there was a registry hack to bypass the Start Screen.  I learned about it in July or August. But MS was so sure the Start screen/metro was the only way to go they
rushed out a Windows Update to eliminate that registry entry. And it was eliminated from the RTM version.
    WHY?
Why did they remove the user's right to chose the UI that worked best for them? I don't know.
</end rant>  sorry, this is a hot button for me.

  • Answering mail: Mail app auto-selects subject

    Hi,
today i experienced a very strange behaviour in mail app - this happens with every kind of mail (imap, pop, exchange) :
When I'm answering to any received mail by clicking the "Answer" button/link, the answer mail opened. So far so good. But if try to enter the subject, system auto-selects entered text starting after the second entered character. The count of auto-selected characters depends on my writing velocity. The problem is, that after system auto-selects entered text whilst I'm continuing typing, my text is replaced with the next typed characters. So I'm not able to write any word.
I know it sounds strange, cause it is strange. First I thought there is someone behind me who did this with a kind of remote control. But after a few investigations i found out, that this behaviour only happens, when I'm answering a received mail or if I clicked on a "mailto:" Link in another mail.
I' using a brand new 15'' MPB with OS X Maverick with all latest patches (incl. Mail-Patch).
Is there any new functionallity in mail app which i did not realise???
    Greez

    Hi,
I found a way to prevent this odd behaviour:
Deactivate spell check while typing. That's it.
I do not know, why spell checking behaves like that, but....
    Bye

I downloaded a word file from an inbox mail (the mail app) onto my iPad, where is this file stored? How can I delete it if it takes up space in my iPad? Any ideas??

Did you ever figure out what happened?
I had the same experience as you did, but in my case it was a big fat pdf that Mail insisted I had to download before I could view it. As happened with you, I saw the file actually downloading, and after a time I was able to view the pdf. It's been my assumption that the pdf is still somewhere on my iPad, but I have no idea where, nor how to delete it if it is still there.
    Thanks.

  • Right click on the mail list doesn't open the context menu any more.

    Hi everybody,

    Very odd.
Right click on email in list should open a drop down selection.
Usually a crossed line through something denotes that it is marked as deleted in an imap mail account.

See if there is a conflict with an addon.
    Restart Thunderbird in safe mode.
Help > Restart with addons disabled.
then perform the same test; right click on email in list.
Do you get the drop down, if yes, then one of your addons is causing the conflict.
You would have to disbale each in turn to locate which one is the problem.
    Maybe the addon needs updating.
    Report back on results.

I have the same problem too. When i restarted with addons disablem problem dissapeared but when i switch to normal mode and disable all off the plugins and addons the problem still remains.
    Please help.

  • Why does choosing "convert to PDF" from a Word Doc's context menu bring up two Save As dialog boxes?

I have a user that every time she chooses "Convert to PDF" from the context menu on a MS Word document she gets a Save As box, enters the name and location, clicks Save. Then Word starts and it brings up another Save As box and makes her enter the name and save location AGAIN. It does then create the PDF, but it is very annoying to her as she makes lots of PDFs for our board of directors (she is our CEO). I have tried it on other PCs that have a similar setup, but none have done this. They all just run the converter window after one dialog box. Please HELP

Does your user have custom add-ons besides the Acrobat PDFMaker add-on?  If so, try disabling the other add-ons as a test to see if you get the same results.
Does your user have a custom template?  Try moving it out and using the standard MS Word template as test?
Did your user have a previous installation of Adobe Acrobat??  If so, check the Add-ons to see if an older version is still registered with MS Word.

  • HT5361 I am having trouble with closing the mail app so that I can shut off my laptop. the menu bar under file doesn't give me the option to quit.  that option is lister, but it is faded.  command Q will not close mail either.

I am unable to shut off my laptop because I can not close the mail app.  Command Q doesn't work. While "quit mail" shows up under FILE on the menu bar, it is faded and not a working option.  Mail appears to be frozen.  I also can not pull up the mail page despite the app being open. Clicking on the mail icon does nothing and there are no available options under the menu bar.  Help, please!  Thanks!

    Try force-quitting (command-option-esc).
