  • Mail App won't let me reply/reply all to messages

    Hi folks,
Unfortunalty, I have a problem on my hands. My Mail application won't let me "Reply" or "Reply all" to certain messages. I noticed so far that I cannot reply to messages from the GMail domain. If I click on "Reply" or "Reply All", the buttons toggle like they have been clicked, but nothing happens. When I look in the Console application, I see the following entry every time I hit those two buttons:
    2006-09-10 16:28:54.794 Mail[1654] * -[NSCFArray insertObject:atIndex:]: attempt to insert nil
Now, I also cannot attach anything to any message. This is a consistent problem that is a real pain! If I want to send an attachment, I have to go to the webmail portal and use that to send messages with attachements. When I click on the paperclip icon in the toolbar, I see this message in the Console application:
2006-09-10 16:51:13.154 Mail[1654] Exception raised during posting of notification. Ignored. exception: * -[NSCFArray insertObject:atIndex:]: attempt to insert nil
What does this mean and what can I do to correct this issue? Thanks in advance!

    Hola Jaime.
This problem in Mail is usually caused by some Launch Services cache or preferences corruption. The following article describes how to manually reset Launch Services -- the notes at the bottom of the article also provide information about the side effects of deleting each of the files involved:
    Resetting Launch Services
If you prefer using a cache cleaning utility instead of following the manual procedure described in the previous article, this other article provides links to some utilities that can be used for troubleshooting and cache cleaning:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
It seems that the most appropriate utility for solving this particular problem is Tiger Cache Cleaner, but you may also want to consider other utilities, such as OnyX, or Cache Out X, which are free. Whatever utility you choose, be sure to read this first:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
As an example, this is how you should proceed with OnyX:
    1. Quit all applications.
    2. Launch OnyX and enter your administrator password.
    3. Click Maintenance. In the Reset section, check LaunchServices database.
    4. You may uncheck any other pre-checked options if you wish.
    5. Click the Execute button.
    6. Restart the computer.

  • Mail app won't let me send mail

Since updating to the newest operating system, my Mail app rarely works. I have three different work accounts set up with it and it only recently started connecting them all again. However, I'm still not able to send any mail at all from any of the accounts and I can't figure out why. I know that the passwords are all correct and I have always been able to send from here. The connection doctor just keeps saying it can't connect to my accounts when I'm trying to send.  The purpose of me using the app is so that I don't constantly need to log in and out of different accounts in my browser. Does anyone know how to make this work again?

Similar problem here. The Troubleshooting link from Linc did not help, nor did over two hours on the phone with Apple Support using screen sharing. I have iCloud mail with three addresses: .mac, .me and .icloud. None of them will send. This issue has occurred fitfully for years, across multiple iMacs and Operating Systems. This time it has lasted for a week, forcing me to use iCloud Mail in Safari to send emails.
While talking to Support we tried to Edit the SMTP Server List, creating a new server at smtp.mail.me.com. After plugging in all the appropriate data and saving, it all vanished and reverted to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): iCloud (iCloud, Offline). The newly created SMTP server was gone. Two different Support Techs watched this happen multiple times. I have signed out of iCloud and then recreated the account. I have even done a Clean Install of Yosemite, which involved hours and hours and then setting all my Prefs manually so as not to drag in any old, corrupt files. No change. Outgoing email sits in the Outbox folder and periodically pops up an error message saying it can't be sent.
In the past this issue only affected my iMac. Now it is also crippling outgoing mail on my MacBook.
Besides the Clean Install I have: Rebuilt Permissions, Reset PRAM and SMC, repaired Prefs, etc., etc.

  • Mail app won't send messages out

I am logged into gmail on my iPhone 4 mail app. I tried to reply to a message yesterday and it wouldn't work. The message sat in my outbox saying "unsent" because I needed to go to my mail account settings and enter a password. Well I went to settings, mail, account, and my password was stored there. I re-typed it anyway to see what would happen. I went back to the mail app, and the message still has not sent. But now I don't have an Outbox folder on the main page either! The only way I know it's still unsent is because when the app refreshes, it says 1 Unsent Message on the bottom of the screen.
So my question is, what is going on, where did my outbox go, why did it tell me to enter a password, and most importantly, why won't my message send?!
I was connected to wifi, if that makes a difference. And does it make a difference if it was a reply versus a new message? I just tried a test email, connected through 3G, and it says it sent.

Something stuck in the cache? Try a reset. To reset the iPhone, press and hold the home and sleep/wake buttons until you see the Apple logo (ignore the slide to power off prompt).

  • Mail app won't open or quit.... help!!!

My mail app wont open or quit. I have tried to look at the utilitys message but i have no clue at what i'm looking at. please help me!!!

Well if it is open, you can force quit mail, press the keys OPTION+COMMAND+ESC
select Mail from the menu and click force quit.
Quit all applications, (use the same step to force quit if necessary) logout, and shut off. Try starting in safe mode, power up and hold the shift key (note that this will take longer than normal, be patient) continue to hold shift till you see the progres BAR, the release and allow to finish booting. (In the login pane it should say safe mode in red font) Login and then check if it works.
Log out, shut down and try restarting normally. (note this will take longer as well)
    Try again.
If you are having these issues still try a OSX reinstall:

  • Mail.app won't let me use my own smtp server, but Thunderbird will. Why?

In Mail, [email protected] will not send mail using smtp.mydomain.com (Mail cannot send using this server) I've always had to resort to using my ISPs (mail.adelphia.net)
However I have the same account setup in Thunderbird (on the same computer) and I am able to send mail using smtp.mydomain.com. I'm using the same exactly settings (port 25, no SSL, authentication w/ username & password)
Also what is odd is that in Mail I can use smtp.mac.com as an outgoing mail server for my .Mac account.
    PowerMac G5 2.5Ghz DP & Macbook Black   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

try: port 587, authentication, username as yr incoming mail u/name, password likewise. Also, SSL may help the authentication process, fooling the server into better authorisation. You may get a warning screen the first time, something like yr server may not be secure etc., just ignore it, say ok and if you get the whoosh sound, the mail's gone.
Also, try a Keychain first aid repair.

  • My Mail app won't let me email anyone?

I just got my iMessage to work after 6 hours! But now my email keeps telling me to go check  the settings for the outgoing servers the mail and contacts part in my settings. I looked and nothing seems to mention an outgoing server. Could this problem be due to the Apple server problem? Or is my iPad just messed up?

Never seen anything like it.  Do iPads get virus'?
Thanks for any help.  I've never used this before.
    Linda

There are no viruses for the iPad. Close the mail app and reboot the iPad.
Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the Mail app and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • The Facebook app won't let me sign on with my account. I can sign on to another account just fine. Will not let me sign on through Safari or Google either. When I put in email and password it goes right back to the log in page. Help?

On my iPhone 4, the Facebook app won't let me sign on with my account. I can sign on to another account just fine. The first time I sign on with the FB app it goes to the news feed page, says loading, and then flipps between loading and connection error.  If I close out of that and try to sign in again it locks up on the logging in page.  From Safari or google it goes to the log in page, after entering my email and password it goes right back to the log in page.  I have tried resetting my phone, deleting and re-installing the app and everything else I can think of.  Since I can log onto another account on my phone it can't be the app, any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Sounds like a hard reset is in order...

  • My computer isn't restarting or shutting off and it says that it's because my Mail app isn't letting it, but the app isn't even open. I need help!

My computer won't let me restart it or shut it off because it says that my Mail app is open, but in fact, the Mail app WILL NOT let me open it, and I tried closing it from the little app bubble itself, nothings working!
I can't access my Mail, or even shut down my computer or restart it.
Does anyone know anything that I can do?

Try seeing if its in the force quit menu
    Menu bar/Apple logo
    select force quit
and see if mail is in the force quit applications, if so select it and force quit it.

  • Mail app won't open

Mail app won't open from icon -- any ideas

    Hello,
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

    Not all apps support airplay.
If NBC does not support it, there is nothing to fix.

  • Mail app won't show photos

This problem exists in all three new iPhone 4s's in my family:  The Mail app won't display some photos attached to emails.  Some photos show up, others don't.  All are jpeg's with the proper .jpg appendage, all are relatively small files (approx 200kb).  The ones that show up and the ones that don't are the same in all three iPhones.  The photos all do show up on desktop and laptop computers.  On the iPhones, in Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calenders/Load Remote Images is turned on.  I tried turning the setting off, then on, tried rebooting the iPhone, nothing works.

    lou tetl,
The list in iTunes under the Info tab is the list of accounts you can transfer the settings for from your computer directly to the iPhone.
It is not a list of the accounts on the iPhone, or a list of all accounts on your computer.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.
