Mail disappear in inbox

Mail I get stays in the inbox for one week. Then they disappears. They are not in the trashcan and not in inbox. But they are still on my Mac. What is happening? In the trashcan it's only the mails  I have put there. There are no sign of the emails who has disappeard. Where are they and how do I get them back?

you will always have a certain time lag for sending email depending on your email server, your internet connection speed, your router or wireless equipement and finally the outgoing settings. have you checked with your email provider if they are having issues? have you checked with your isp if there are issues? have you checked in your outgoing server settings if you have the correct info - for the latter go to mail>preferences>accounts>account info, go to the outgoing server list, check edit server list, then in both available panes, check if the info is correct and what your email provider is saying should be entered for outgoing server and port.
hope this helps

  • Mail disappears from Inbox

Email that had been downloaded and was visible/readable in my inbox all of a sudden disappears - Subject is visible, but body of message is empty with an italicized msg:
"The message from ___________ concerning “________” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
The account HAD been taken online, the mail (in most cases) had been downloaded from the server, and was read-able previously.
When I quit and reboot, sometimes it will all reappear, but sometimes it will not. Even when I installed Tiger, the problem is persisting.

    Amar,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
We will likely need much more information about this report, but first, sort your Inbox on Message Number, rather than Date. If the Date you are displaying, and sorting on, is the Date Sent, and the sending computer's date is wrongly set, they could be far down in your Inbox. If you do not display message number in your Inbox, click on View in the Menubar, place your cursor on Columns and choose Number.
If this speculation is not the situation, please tell us the history of your mailboxes -- did they exist when running Panther, and get converted?
    More info, please.

  • E-mail disappeared from inbox

Important e-mail gone! Vanished! Vaporized!  Is there a way to retrieve something like this.  I know for a FACT I did not delete.
Just another reason to hate Apple

I'm practically Amish when it comes to this stuff so I'm limited to opening and deleting (I've got a ton of e mails in my deleted account and its not there either.
    Thank you for the input

  • Mail in my inbox just disappears after a few weeks, why?

Mail in my inbox stays there for a few weeks and then disappears, only leaving me a few weeks worth of messages - similarly on my .mac webmail. Can't find any preferences to stop this happening.
    Any Ideas?

The same behaviour does not happen with the iMac and so
    I use this as backup.
Well, it doesn’t happen there because it stores mail locally instead of on the server but, interestingly enough, the iMac is almost certainly the culprit. What are your Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings there?
I never changed the iMac .mac account from POP to .mac as I
would have had to delete the account and create a new one
and would have thus lost everything.
This isn’t entirely correct. For one thing, you don’t have to delete the POP account first. You can set up the account as .Mac without deleting the POP account, transfer your mail from the POP account’s mailboxes to the .Mac account’s mailboxes, and delete the POP account afterwards. Alternatively, you could create custom “On My Mac” mailboxes and move your mail from the POP account’s mailboxes into them before deleting the account.
Before doing anything, however, be sure to quit Mail and make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

  • How do I keep new e-mails in my Inbox after I've opened them?

When I close a new e-mail in my inbox after I've opened it to read it, it disappears into my old mail box. This does not happen with Internet Explorer. How do I keep an e-mail in my inbox after I've opened it?

Always keep an eye on 'More like this', the column to the right of your initial post.    You will often find answers and direct leads to your questions there.

  • Can't Delete 2 E-mails in my Inbox

I was trying to fix an e-mail problem and I went to move my inbox and it disappeared and recreated a new one but the two old e-mails still show up and I cant delete them. I can't find the other inbox all I can find is the new one that is holding the two old e-mails from the other inbox that was moved from: Users/User Name/Library/Mail/Pop Server/inbox moved to Users/User Name/Library/Mail/Mailboxes where it disappeared. How do I delete thise old e-mails?

How did you try to move the account's Inbox mailbox - from the mailboxes drawer to another location in the mailboxes drawer, or manually via the Finder at Home > Library > Mail with the Mail.app quit before doing so?
And where did you try to move the account's Inbox mailbox to?
To delete these emails from the new Inbox mailbox that was created, quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder > Inbox.mbox.
Move the Inbox.mbox to the Desktop.
What else is currently available in this POP account named folder - all file and folder names?
Launch Mail and a new Inbox.mbox will be created automatically within the POP account named folder.

  • Reproducible bug in mail deleting IMAP INBOX messages

I have just installed Lion on my Mac Pro and am having problems with the Mail App.
I have been running my own mail server for the last eight years on a Linux box, Postfix, with IMAP on top. This has been reliable and pretty foolproof. It supports most of my family and has been running happily with Thunderbird (all versions), most Linux mail clients and all Apple Mail versions upto (but not including Lion Mail), two iPad's and my iPhone.
Nothing has changed on the mail server for the last few months.
After installing Lion, I configured mail to connect to the mail server as normal using IMAP. No difference in configuration to any other install.
Mail downloads all my folders as per normal and then downloads my INBOX. I run my INBOX with mail going back to the begining of the year so circa 1,200 messages.
Next thing is my INBOX is now empty, I haven't asked the Lion Mail app to delete the mail but it has. Odd.
I have a backup of the current mail and load that back in. Start up mail again in Lion and a couple of minutes later, deleted. Nothing in the trash folder, no warning at all.
I search the internet and finds this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3206902?start=0&tstart=0 which seems similar to my problem. I clear all my mail preferences out, I remove all the directories from the~/Library, restart Lion mail, re-enter my  and guess what, same behavior as before. I can copy mail into the INBOX and it's deleted, I can receive mail and it's deleted. No warning.
No rules are set up to delete any mail, I have no spam filter installed on Lion, I can sit and watch it just disappear. This problem does not occur on previous versions of Apple mail, e.g. Snow Leopard.
I have moved to Thunderbird for the moment to get around the problem.
Anybody else having the same problem?

OK, I now appear to have the problem.
I installed OS X Server on my Mac Pro some weeks ago. One change I made was to setup the Calender Server to prepare for a move from my separate Snow Leopard Server. As part of setting the Calendar Server up it requires an e-mail address. This was set last last week.
It now appears that the Calendar Server pulls all e-mail from the e-mail address provided on the mail server, this is different (or it appears to be different) to the behaviour from Snow Leopard Server. The configuration for each is very different from the interfaces.
After turning off the Calender Server, it looks as if the mail is now staying on the server.

  • E-mail disappear on my iPad without me deleting

e-mail disappear from my inbox on my ipad2 without me deleting. what should I do to prevent this from happening?

bob [ you knew my tongue was firmly in cheek - well, mostly ]
seems a futile effort. as I said before, messages are SMALL. For example, the notice of your post at   Jan 14, 2015 4:10 PM  CST/US when saved as from MS Entourage:
These clearly are BIGGER than the space they use in the Entourage database.
I do not know what methods are used to store on iPad, but for the sake of discussion, let's use Mac Finder filesize of HTML. Still seems a piddly amount compared to all the media stored locally - or is it all really on iCloud?
At any rate, nice guy that you are, why not illustrate How to get vkgibson's issue fixed now that we accept why?

  • All my mail disappeared from my folders!

Help! I am running Mail 1.2.5 on Mac OS 10.2.8. I was trying to setup a new earthlink POP account for my wife. I noticed that the socket number that earthlink gave me to use was different from what I had on my account settings. So I went in and changed it for my account. As soon as I did, all my mail disappeared from my inbox and sent. I checked my inbox.mbox file and all its contents are new and created at the same time I lost all my mail. Does anyone know ANY way to get my mail back? It's stuff that's no longer on the server. I just assumed once this stuff was in my inbox, it wasn't going to go anywhere until I deleted it. I didn't think changing one setting in my account was going to wipe anything out.

    Hey hpr3
That did help reveal some boxes I don't use thanks for the tip, but I used to have a bunch of sub accounts that I created to sort my emails into manageable groups and these have disappeared. ANy ideas that? Regards

  • New e-mail server, all my old e-mails disappeared, How do I get them back?

I changed my e-mail provider from Comcast to Verizon and when I updated the accounts in Mail --- all my inbox messages to the Comcast account disappeared. Is it possible to get them back or at least see them?

What type of accounts are these (POP, IMAP)?
Mail stores all mail in ~/Library/Mail/. For each account, there is a folder whose name starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username, and the incoming mail server. This is where all account-specific mailboxes are stored.
You should have created a new account in Mail, rather than changing the settings of the old one. I've seen people reporting that doing what you did caused the old account folder to be wiped out (and all the mail stored within it to be lost) without warning. This would be a serious bug, but I've been unable to reproduce it. It could very well be that the old account folder is still there, yet inaccessible.
Take a look at the contents of the ~/Library/Mail/ folder. Do you see account folders for both the old and the new account there?
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the file path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the file path there.

  • My e-mail automatically deletes read e-mail in my inbox every 14 days without my permission. How do I get this to stop?

I switched e-mail clients from windows live to thunderbird in mid december to alleviate problems in sending group e-mail. I have thunderbird on a different laptop and the product works flawlessly. The client works flawlessly with one exception: It automatically deletes any read e-mail in my inbox every 14 days without any input from me. I have had ITOK & Hughes.net look at the problem as I am using my inbox as a staging area for for pending business that tracks progress of different events. I have checked settings and there are no evident features that I can switch on or off with that time frame. This has occurred 3 times since December and I have resorted to printing e-mails to prevent loss of data.
The desktop uses windows 7, IMAP for incoming mail...

Log into your account at the providers web mail page and look for any retention options that might be there. Do not put too much into what their help desk tells you. Most help desk agents are lucky to know that the ringing sound means to answer the phone.

  • Can't get into talk talk email account in Mozilla, you have undefined new mails in your inbox message. No problem with Internet Explorer though

I've been using the Firefox browser for nearly a year now but for the past three days I can't open my tiscali email account via Firefox. The message "you have undefined new mails in your inbox" comes up. Talk Talk technical help says there is a problem with Firefox and advised me to use Internet Explorer. I can get into my account through Explorer but would much prefer to use Firefox so please help me out.

Apparently TalkTalk mail will work with Firefox 4 and Firefox 5 ''if'' you set the browser to ''lie'' to TalkTalk mail by saying that you are still using version 3.6.
You can find the instructions for that in a post on the TalkTalk forums: [http://www.talktalk.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=185113#post2452787 Firefox 4 & TalkTalk webmail - Forums].
Note: when you open about:config the first time, it will display a warning message that you should be careful with the changes you make. That's definitely good to bear in mind.
    Does it work?

  • Lost all my mail in my inbox +my mail account

lost all my mail in my inbox +my mail account settings except @mac.com after a crash of my system.
When I rebooted my mac, a pop-up from mail was telling me that it had created a new folder called "distributed" in replacement of the usual "sent items" folder. This last folder is still there but is empty.
Can I somehow recuperate the settings as it was before the crash?

Hi Jake, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
After we're sure those things are OK, we can go further.
