Mail is being sent using a deleted email account

Hi - I am having problems with my iMac. I had my brother's email account loaded while I was helping him with some work. I then deleted the email account. Now my emails are going out showing that they come from his account (which isn't there) and not my email default account. Any ideas where the residual link is that I need to delete?

From the Mail menu bar, select
          Window ▹ Connection Doctor
Look for the disused SMTP (outgoing mail) account in the window that opens. Double-click it. Another window will open, showing a list of all the outgoing mail accounts. The unwanted one will be selected. Click the minus-sign button to delete it, then click OK.
If there's more than one unwanted account, repeat.

I have two email accounts set up on my phone.  Every time I send a new email or reply to an email it automatically sends it out using an old email address that I not longer use.  Is there a way to stop this from happening?

check under your outgoing servers section if there's still an outgoing server set to live or hotmail...
i bet your primary servers for both email accounts are configured incorrectly and the live one is not.

It is important to understand that Mail uses TWO servers, a Receiving Server and a Sending Server.
When you create a new mail message, or reply to a message, the Sender server is shown in the message composition window like this:
That drop-down window allows you to select which of the Sending Servers you previously set up should be used.
In general, once you choose a Sending server, its choice will "stick" for all future replies to messages from that Receiving mailbox.

go to https://appleid.apple.com/ and try to reset it there. when updating to ios 7 it does have activation lock so you have to know the apple id and password. contact apple and they make be able to assist you with apple id password.

  • Mail only being sent from NON-default account

I have two email accounts set up on my iPhone. One is a POP account - work email hosted by Earthlink; the second is a personal email account on Gmail. For months I've been able to send email from either account. The POP/work email account is designated as the 'Default' account.
Recently though, when I am in my POP/work email account and I reply to a recently received email in that account, I am able to reply to the email but the recipient receives my reply from my Gmail/personal email account. Again, this a reply I've sent while in my POP/work email account, AND my POP/work email account is even set as the 'Default' email account. Yet, replies are being sent from my Gmail/personal email account.
The same thing happens when I draft new emails (not replying to message from someone else) - when I draft them from my POP/work account, they are received by intended recipient but show that they came from my Gmail/personal account and therefore all replies to my emails are sent to my Gmail/personal account.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks in advance.

You are undisputedly THE Man/Woman! Essentially you solved it for me. Following your tip, I checked the SMTP settings of my work email account on my iPhone and somehow (don't know how) they had gotten deleted. In turn, somehow, that was having all mail go through the remaining functioning out-bound mail on my iPhone which was through my Gmail account. In some ways that is weird, but not a bad resilient capability by the iPhone to still send the mail using the other email account info.
Thanks again. I really appreciate you taking the time to post your thoughts. And I REALLY appreciate you being correct!
    Best,
    Tom

  • Spotlight & Mail Search Not Working After Deleting email Account's '.OfflineCache' File.  How Do I Get Back to Normal?

    Running OSX 10.7.4 and Mail.5.2.
One of 3 email accounts was constantly trying, but unable to synch.  The rotating splines were turning non-stop but not synching (other two email accounts worked just fine.)  After doing some searching on the internet, I found several articles about this.  Many included the symptom of the "Recovered Messages" constantly being recovered/generated.  I had noticed that I would get some recovered messages on occaision, but had never noticed it to be problematic.  These articles suggested that the ".OfflineCache" file for that email account had been corrupted or the root of my problem.  So, I deleted the .OfflineCach file as per this article...
Fix OSX Mail Creating Multiple 'Recovered Message
Well that got my mail working again.  However, I soon noticed that spotlight no longer works and when I try to search mail, it doesn't work.  It will only return a complete email address/contact; it doesn't search the contents of the email.
I tried to get spotlight to re-index the hard drive.  However, when I try to drag a folder or volume to it, I get the error:
Since spotlight and mail search have always worked flawlessly for 5 years, I'm confident this is related to having deleted " .OffflineCache" for that particular email account.  However, it seems strange that mail search won't work for the other email accounts.
Any other tips for getting spotlight back online?
How about the .OfflineCache file.  Will Mail restore it, replace it on it's own?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, looking back, not long before this problem started, I was trying to send a single email with numerous pictures ( around 50 or so.)  I forgot to select "medium" for the picture size and it started trying to upload them at full size.  I realized this after a minute or two and cancelled the upload, changed to 'medium' and sent the email with no problem.  I point this out because the "Multiple Recovered Messages" error seems to be related to or being induced by having an excessively large file in the particular mail account's .Offline.Cache file.

Well, a couple days later and it seems that the .offlinecache has been rebuilt.  Finder, Spotlight, & Mail search all seem to be working normally now!

  • Mail not being sent by phone

My iPhone is giving me a pop-up that says, "Cannot send mail" and says that "the sender address was invalid."
I've sent mail without problems with my iPhone for a year now and this just began to happen.
    Whats up?
    Jeremy

    Hello all
I've had the same problems not being able to send (and sometimes receive) mail as well. I have three email accounts set up on my phone, and I noticed that one of the accounts worked, but not the other two. That tells me that it's not a defective iPhone as I first suspected. What I found out is that on the account that works, the SMTP Server Port Setting is set to 25. On the two accounts that weren't working, the Server Port was set to 587 and that's why I couldn't send out email. After changing the settings on both non-working email accounts, everything now works perfectly.
So, if you go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Accounts>Outgoing Mail Server SMTP>Primary Server>Server Port: 25
This worked for me. Hopefully it'll work for all of you here and anyone else with this problem.
    Good Luck!
    Warmest Regards,
    Mike.

  • Why is outbox not visible WHILE a mail is being sent?

When I am sending mail, the outbox is not visible.
The only time it appears is when there is a problem with the outgoing email and it gets 'stuck' - THEN I have an outbox.
Is there any way I can make the outbox remain visible, in case I have made a mistake, and wish to stop a mail from being sent after I have (accidentally or otherwise) clicked on 'send'?
I have a feeling that when I was running Tiger, the outbox was always visible.
I cannot remember what happened on Leopard. I am now on Snow Leopard.
    thanks

Click on Window in the menubar while in Mail, and choose Activity. This will bring up a monitor with a Stop button. Several seconds is not long sometimes. Watch the monitor while trying to send -- take note of the time spent connecting to the server versus the time spent transmitting.

  • Setting the 'Return-Path' of emails sent using the send email behaviour

    Hi,
How do I set the 'Return-Path' of emails sent using the send email behaviour? I am having troubles because the emails sent from my page are being filtered out as spam when they should be coming through. the text is the following (it is the notification of an e-card to the recipient):
    Dear Bart
We've decided this year to share our holiday greetings while also showing our commitment to protect the planet. Since it takes 24 mature trees to
produce one ton of greeting cards, this e-card shares our holiday wishes with both you and future generations.
    Please follow the link below.

I suspect that it has something to do with the return path setting.
Can anyone help me on this one and get it through the spam filters of most email clients?!
    Thanks,
    NIk

    Hi Nik,
so far the only "flagged as spam" reason I know of is, that ADDT curreently misses to insert the current date/time -- please try the fix mentioned in the thread http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c034953/5 and see if it helps

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • HT5361 Just now accidentally deleted email account. No warning appears and was deleted. Mail was not back up ed. Does exist any way how for Undo of this delete operation (need to recover mails and contacts there)

I just accidnetally deleted email account and there wa sno warining so it went through and I lost all my emails. The email was not Back up. Is there any way how this account could be recovered?

If the account was an IMAP account your emails should re-appear if you recreate the email account. If the account was POP you hopefully have backup (TIme Machine?) you can restore the emails from.

  • Accidently deleted email account-- any chance I can get messages back?

I've got 2 computers using the same email accounts. For many months I've used Mobile Me for the home email address, and a GoDaddy POP account for the work address. Mobile Me syncs the accounts but not the messages for the GoDaddy address. I manually send/receive messages with my GoDaddy account (pop server is set to store messages for a day so I can retrieve them on both computers)
Last night on my home computer I was given a message about needing to sync mobile me because something was reset or it was my first time syncing. The option selected was "merge all data." I restarted computer but continued to get this message. So I figured "what the ****" and I merged all data. Nothing seemed wrong with my home computer after I did this.
When I arrived to work this morning, my Mail application was showing a duplicate work account/address (go daddy). I'm assuming this was because of what I'd did the night before. By clicking on each duplicate account I discovered that the extra account had only been active since the night before. It only had new emails from the last few hours. The other work account contained all my messages just like it should.
So.....I deleted the extra work email account and kept my original account. My orignal work account still exists. All the emails are still in the account in my inbox..... BUT now when I click on these emails there is NOTHING shown for content. Each email opens to a blank page.
I'm pretty sure I'll still have the work emails on my home computer. If needed, Is there a way to transfer those emails to my work computer?
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks for your help

are the mail setups on your two computers exactly the same? if yes you can quit mail and copy the folder /users/username/library/mail and the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist from the home computer to the corresponding location on the work computer. then when you start mail it will look just like it did on the home computer.
but if Mail setups are not exactly the same you shouldn't do this. instead copy the folder /users/username/library/mail from the home computer to the desktop (not to the library) on the work computer. next start mail and go to file menu->import mailboxes and select to import "Mail for OS X". choose the copied folder on the desktop and import the mailboxes you want. they will be imported into submailboxes of "Imported" mailbox in "on my mac" section and you'll have to move the messages from there to their appropriate locations.
the second procedure will work for any POP or local mailboxes but not for IMAP mailboxes.
