Mail Merge in Acrobat 9 Professional?

Hi, All!
I have been told that I can perform a mail merge similar to MS Word from within Acrobat Pro 9. The main document (with merge type fields) needs to be an Acrobat .pdf. The data source can come from an external file. The key is that the merge is performed in Acrobat, not Word.
I have searched throughout Acrobat Pro 9 but have found no functionality that matches my needs. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks for any help on this!
Christina

Just figured out how to merge Excel data into an Adobe Acrobat PDF with form fields! This will only works for 1 document at a time though, so it's not really a mail merge, but still better than nothing.
1. Create PDF from Word, Indesign or whatever you prefer to use.
2. Create you form fields as you normally would.
3. In the appropriate form field, type the name that corresponds with your Excel heading    <Form Field Name>
4. Save your Excel spreadsheet as a 'Tab Delimited Text (.txt)' file.
5. Back to Acrobat, Forms Menu, Manage Form Data, Import Data, Select 'Text Files', Select your file, highlight data group and hit  OK.

  • Mail Merge Function in Adobe Professional 8?

    Hello,
My company will soon be implementing an Electronic Document  Management System (EDMS).
One of the major hurdles were facing is that the new system will not be  able to generate copies of documents with controlled sequential numbers.   Presently we use Mail Merge to implant the controlled copy numbers on our Word  documents (using excel as the data source).
When we switch over to the new  system (EDMS), we would need to do the same thing but only on a PDF version of the  document. I've looked into the use of forms but don't think that's going to work as these are multiple page documents that need to have the same information on every page.
After reading about forms I get the impression that you would have to do every page separately (as opposed to having a data source like excel and fields in the PDF to accept the data from the excel file).
Is there any function in Professional 8 similar to Mail Merge in Word?
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
I was thinking of a Mail Merge function in Adobe Professional 8 itself, in
other words, performing a Mail Merge on a PDF document, as opposed to what I
think you're suggesting which is to create the Mail Merged document in Word
and then convert to PDF.  That wouldn't be a solution because these
documents will be residing in an EDMS database (Electronic Document
Management System which will hold both the Word and PDF version of a given
document), which creates it's own headers and footers when printing from the
system. There's no way to place a stamp at this point in the process because
you're within the EDMS system, no way that is without an expensive plug-in
or work around to the system, and with the way that Word doesn't always
convert so neatly to PDF, and the need for this stamped document to be an
exact rendition of the EDMS (printed) version, I would need another
    solution.
My original solution was to print the PDF version of a document from the
EDMS system, hence it will print with the appropriate EDMS Headers and
Footers (which only get added inside of the EDMS printing process), take
that print, scan it, and now with the scanned version (after setting up the
fields where the merged data will go), merge it with a data source (excel)
and print it out.  We would then have a document with a controlled copy
number that has all the appropriate formatting of the EDMS version, plus of
course a unique copy number stamped where we choose.
Of course none of this will work unless Acrobat Professional 8 can do Mail
Merge from within itself.  This is what I need to experiment with....any
    ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Mail Merge in Acrobat Pro XI or X

Is it possible to do a mail merge in Acrobat XI or X Pro? I have a PDF which has one field at the top for a name. I would like to automatically merge a list of names from Excel or Word so that a separate PDF for each name in the list could automatically be created. Is this possible and how exactly do you do it? Thank you.

  • Mail Merge in Acrobat 8

    Hi
I have MS Word 2000 and Acrobat Pro 8. I have created a merge document and have the data in an Excel 2000 worksheet. The merge has been tested in Word and is fine.
In the Acrobat help it says I can create a Word mail merge, automatically name and save PDFs and have them e-mailed. It says "Choose Adobe PDF > Mail Merge to Adobe PDF" but I can't find this anywhere.
I'm sorry if this is a newbie question but any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

What I am trying to get at is that the merge button in the Adobe menu may only appear if the document has been setup for mail merge. This latter is the WORD setup for mail merge, not Acrobat. Once you set the document up for mail merge in WORD, then the menu item may appear. There is no reason to have the menu item if the document is not set for mail merge. I do not know if this is the case, but it may be the issue you are seeing.
It is worth a try with a simple setup of a few items. You don't have to do a fancy mail merge to check the concept. In the instructions it said to setup a mail merge document in WORD first and then it talked about the menu item. I suspect that is what is going on, but I can not test it at home.

  • Mail merge from Acrobat...

Is there a way to perform a mail merge and then email those to a corresponding list of emails from within Acrobat X?

    Hi Syrax12,
This is possible either with the Mail Merge button in the Acrobat PDF ribbon in Office and Acrobat, or you'll need to use a script.

  • Does Acrobat Standard allow "mail merge" or do I need to purchase Acrobat Professsional to do that?

I'm trying to use Mail Merge to fill in an Adobe PDF form with information from an Excel spreadsheet.
I'm reading some stuff that says Adobe Acrobat Professional has such a tool. Does the Acrobat Standard have this capability?  Is there a free download
    for Auto Mail Merge?

There are a variety of tools in Acrobat, especially for programmers, but nothing I'd really call a mail merge - nothing like the feature in Word.
However, you really aren't in the right place for advice. Try an Acrobat forum, CreatePDF is a web service for people without Acrobat. I recommend you include the address (URL) of the web page where it talks about this feature, it could mean several things.

  • Mail Merge From Within Professional 8

    Hi,
Is there any function in Professional 8 similar to Word's Mail Merge?  I work for a company that has a need to "stamp" unique copy numbers on certain documents.  Here's what we presently do:
We have a Word file of a testing procedure (we have a number of different testing procedures), and we receive a request for x number of controlled copies so that the analysts in the labs can conduct testing. An example of the number for the first controlled copy for this year would be: TD125-09-0001 (TD=Testing Document, 125=the main document number (which never changes, we have about 130 of these documents), 09=the year, and 0001=unique controlled copy number.  So we would issue TD125-09-0001, TD125-09-0002, TD125-09-0003, TD125-09-0004 and so on depending on a given request.
Now the problem:  We are going to be switching to an Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) in which the documents, when printed from within the EDMS system will print with the EDMS Headers and Footers, and therefore cannot be brought outside of the system.
My workaround was to print out the Testing Document from within EDMS, therefore it will print with all the appropriate Headers and Footers that the system generates upon printing...then scan the document as a PDF to use as a template, and apply the controlled copy numbers to the PDF version.  The only problem is that Acrobat doesn't seem to have functionality similar to Word's Mail Merge....the beauty of which is you choose which "recipients" you would like to merge, and regardless of the length of the document, it will imprint the same number on every page, print another copy with the next sequential number, etc.  I've looked around in the Professional 8 application and the closest I've come is forms, but then you have no functionality to generate sequential copy numbers except to do each one manually.
Does anyone know of a plug-in or scripting that will mimic the functionality of Mail Merge but from within Adobe?
    Much Appreciation In Advance!,
    Paul

    Hi Rick
To explain in brief, the main master table (OCRD) is replicated in fields in the audit trail table (ACRD). A few additional fields are available in the ACRD such as Instance which is a numeric incremental number for each update to a master. Instance 1 is of course the Add action when it is created. Therefore you can pull the information of the BP straight from the ACRD table without having to join and using the MAX number of Instance to get the latest "snapshot" of the master. Then there are fields such as update date and time which can be used to determine if any records have been updated in say the last 5 minutes for example.
Another suggestion would be to add an activity to the BP rather for each letter that must be created, as this will give you history of each letter that was sent. What can work quite nicely will be to change the layout of the activity to be some letter format and then possibly save this to PDF or print to a Document generator printer as a TIFF file and then attach these back to the activity. From the activity you could also fax, email or print the letter.
The above scenarios are just a suggestion, and I guess a way of trying to impress on you that SAP Business One is still a good choice, despite a few shortcomings. The important thing to remember with SAP Business One is it's flexibility in terms of User Defined Fields, Formatted Searches, SDK, UDO's, DI API, etc. which can in many cases overcome functional gaps. The best advise is to consider how big the gap is and what it will cost to fill it in terms of project time line and cost.
    Hope this helps
    Kind regards

  • Having trouble merging powerpoint or word files in single PDF in acrobat X professional on mac book pro

    Hi
I am having trouble merging word and poerpoint files into single PDF by acrobat X professional on a mac book pro. Error says its not supported format. Why is that? It works perfectly on windows. Is the feature of merging office files not enabled in Mac version of software?

    Hi Adam,
Welcome to the forums. They've really helped my Mac learning-curve since first getting a Mac in late April.
It sounds to me from reading the different ways you want to use your computer that you would be very well suited for the Macbook. I have the Macbook Pro but I got it about 3 weeks before the Macbooks came out. And I was quite upset. I use my computer mainly for word editing, watching DVDs and picture management. I will have to admit the 15.4" screen is great for side-by-side document editing, but aside from that, I would think that for my needs the Macbook would have been perfect.
For the money I spent on the low end Macbook Pro I could have gotten the fastest Macbook with 2GB RAM. Instead I have the slowest MBP with only 512MB of RAM which was painfully slow when multitasking. I upgraded to 1GB and it was a huge difference.
But really... I never use the video card. And since I love the portability of the Macbook Pro, another 2 inches off the body would be AMAZING since the 15" is a little big...
    That's my 2 cents.

  • Acrobat PDF Maker sending old mail merges.

I am using the Acrobat Add-In in Word 2007.  Earlier in the week I sent a PDF mail merge and now that I have created a new PDF merge, for some reason the program is randomly adding old email messages and sending them again.  How do prevent this from happening?  Even if I select only one record for a test, the program sends three or four old messages again and it seems kind of random how it is picking the sendees and what old email merge it sends again incorrectly.  The program did send my new message but it also is sending old stuff.  I tried changing  the folder I was saving the new messages to but it still sent out messages that were saved in the "default" folder "WZU3R435" the program created.  I even tried to find that folder so I could delete its content but I can't find it.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    General Acrobat Problem Steps
If you are having problems creating a PDF, there are two steps you should do FIRST
Go to the appropriate vendor web site and apply all updates to the program you are using (several recent messages have concerned problems with MS Office conversion, with the response that different versions of Office have different BUGS that must be fixed by a download from Microsoft - and MS Office products are not the only ones which may, from time to time, need to be updated to work properly)
Apply all updates IN NUMBER ORDER

  • Acrobat X Std: Mailmerge Word Add-in only emails the first recipient in the Mail merge list

I have a user who is trying to do a mail merge from MS Word 2010 by using the PDF Add-in, whether she selects just to create the PDF's or email them automatically the add-in will say the emails have been sent successfully but only the first address on the WORD mail merge list will have been created/emailed. Effectively only doing one at a time!

    Hi,
As the event log indicated, this is due to acrobat pdfmaker office com addin doesn't work well with Microsoft Word.
I would suggest you go ahead and try to upgrade your Adobe product to the latest version and see if issue persists.
Or contact the support of Adobe and see if there is a known compatibility issue or not.

  • Acrobat PDF Maker -- Mail Merge (WORD 10)

I am mail merging from a three tab excel.  While using the second tab to drive the merge I selected "Automatically send...by email" however, the "To:" field does not tie to the excel tab I am working from.  (just sent a bunch of emails to the wrong folks and needed recall...)  How do I drive the "To" field from my desired tab and column?

Sorry, I don't understand how your question is related to Adobe Reader.

You might want to check the manual (under help) for information in your current version. The link above is pretty much the same as the AA 9 manual.

  • Mail Merge to PDF

I am using Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Pro to send a merged word document to a list of email receipents.
I have created two word files, the first works fine but the second I always get the error message that "Acrobat PDFMaker was not able to mail merge the document".
The only difference between the two files is that the second has some additional merge feilds. Although it doesnt appear to relate to any specific additional field (no matter which field I add, as soon as there is a new field the merge fails).
Does anyone have any suggestions about what might be causing the merge to PDF to fail?
FYI, I can complete the mail merge in word no problem, and I can mail merge and email to receipents in word no problem. (The end result I am after is to send out to the email receipents a PDF file rather than an editable word doc).
    Thanks Shane

Re: PDF Maker Mail Merge error
I've had this same problem with one word document and I think I figured out what is going on, at least in my case. I'm using Word 2003. I tried a test of one merge record, and it worked, but when I tried to complete the entire merge, it failed. After trying several times to no avail, I noticed that the first word in my document had the red spell check underline, even though the word was not spelled wrong. When I placed my mouse cursor in front of the first letter of the word, the font information said "ZWAdobeF" and the size was 1. After I deleted this and tried the merge to e-mail through the Adobe plugin, it worked flawlessly. After the merge was completed however, that font reappeared in front of the first word in my document.
I hope this helps some people out there.
Also, I'm using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional, Windows XP SP3.

  • Email PDF from Mail Merge Problem

Using a data source of email addresses from Excel 2003 and performing a mail merge in Word 2003 with the Mail Merge to Adobe PDF button, everything worked okay and the emails generated to the outbox in Outlook 2003 with the relevant PDFs attached.  However, once they were mailed the recipients who use Outlook Express had the attachments missing.  I'm using Acrobat 8.1.5
I've seen previous queries about this and it seems to relate to Outlook using a RTF format.  I set Outlook to default to html and then plain text formats but still had the same problem. Can anyone suggest how I can solve this or if the problem is Outlook related, then another email program that would work without causing this problem (preferable freeware or inexpensive).
    Thanks

Just an interesting after thought, since you mentioned blocking. Several federal agencies and companies block zip files also. I ran onto a message recently about the university blocking zip files at one time because of a problem. Mail merge files are typically personalized and it would be nice for them to go intact. If they re not personalized, but just being sent in general, then posting the basic file and e-mailing a link might work better. For a lot of things I do, I just use the mail merge that is built into my e-mail client. That creates a mail-merge of messages that are personalized.
Just thought the blocking comment might be of interest, though I give the same advice. I am not sure how it could be done with zip in a mail merge sense.
