Mail opens but won't receive emails (Mail 2.0.5 on 10.4.3)

I had recently upgraded to 10.4.3, and shortly after had to have my iBook (G3 800mhz) sent off to have it's logic board replaced. Now that i have it back, I've found when I open Mail, the program will open and the grey wheel symbol by the inbox spins and spins but never receives my emails from a POP account. I know it is not my ISP as I have a iMac G5 and can receive email on it and have never had a problem getting email on both of my computers from the same account. The G5 is still on 10.4.2
Has anyone encountered this?

More than likely. Apple hasn't specifically said there won't be another 4.x update, but I seriously doubt they'd bother with the impending release of iOS 5. The CDMA and GSM phones use different chipsets, which is why there is a disparity between the two right now. iOS 5 should unify the code base and get things back in sync.

  • Safari 5.1.2 won't open in lion and mail opens but can't get email

I turned on my computer the otherday and I couldn't get safari to open. When I click on it it just bounces in the dock for hours. I tryed to do a software update, which included updating safari, but my computer got stuck in the installing screen and after a full night I eventually had to hold the power button. Also my mail is opening but can't recieve emails and the only way to close it is by force quitting it. I ran Onyx and was able to get safari and mail working and was also able to install the update, but about an hour later it started doing the same thing. Any help?

Since this is a forum for the MacBook Pro hardware, you should go to the Safari and Lion forums.  Do a search and/or ask a question.  Hope this helps.

  • Public folder not showing up as mail enabled, but it's receiving email.

I've got several mail-enabled public folders that are showing up as not being mail-enabled in the public folder console, but are receiving email. If I run get-publicfolder -identity "\folder\name" | fl it shows that the folder is mail-enabled and
all of the information listed there matches up with other folders that are showing up correctly.
With one of the folders doing this, I selected to mail enable it and see what happened. It accepted it, but it assigned it a completely different address, though if I search AD for the old address, it shows that it's attached to the very same public folder.
Also, if I check the GAL, the public folder shows up twice, one with the old address and one with the new.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

We have the exact same problem.
The "easy" way would be to export all mail-enabled objects from the MESO to text files to have smtp addresses saved :
    get-mailpublicfolder * | select displayname,emailaddresses,grantsendonbehalfto, primarysmtpaddress | fl >> C:\temp\export.txt
Then delete Public Folder objects from the MESO
After that, you should be able to mail-enable your public-folder and add previously saved smtp addresses.
But this is just a workaround, not a real solution.
This is why we have just opened a case with Microsoft to clearly identify what is causing this post-migration (2007-2013) issue. I will update this post as soon as i have some news.

  • I finally upgraded my 4S but won't receive email (Gmail)

I recently bought a MacBook Air and was just going through the process of updating/connecting all my Apple devices
I have the MB Air, a personal iPhone 4S (set up to receive Gmail), a work iPhone 5 (set up to receive work email) and 2 iPads, both getting Gmail - the 1st gen is permanently connected to my tv and the 3 is mobile with me.
I avoided upgrading my 4s to iOS 7 until now. I was on an iOS 5 version. I decided to do it now to take full advantage of the ecosystem :-) Since upgrading, my 4S no longer receives email. My ipad 3 does. I get "The mail server imap.gmail.com is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings". Not sure what's causing this. I also created an iCloud email but I did that before upgrading and it was working fine then.
    Thanks!

I found the answer elsewhere so thought I would post it. Just delete the account and add it again. So simple. Blush!

  • Mail opens, but won't display mail, quit grayed out

I can open Mail, indicates messages in the various locations (inbox, junk, other folders), but displays none of the messages. Also, "Quit Mail" and other choices are grayed out. Ideas?

I remembered the "Force Quit" option, that worked. Disregard, no other response necessary. Thanks.

  • Mail sends but won't receive

My problem started out with one of my mailboxes' passwords not sticking.  I'm still having that problem.  Now my other one will not download any new messages from the server but I did send a link to a friend this morning, so something's connecting.  The error message on the supposed "good" mailbox said "there may be a problem with the mail server or network.  And that "the connection to the server on port 995 timed out."
I"ve changed nothing in preferences except tried to input the correct password on the "bad" mailbox.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Finished on another thread.

  • Mail / Login in with Gmail/ received email ok but when problem sending.

I log into my mail using gmail, and was receiving email ok. I tried to send an email to my other gmail account, but it showed up in the spam ?? What's going on?
    Thanks.

I guess you could try but I don't believe Apple can help with activation lock issues.  They may, however, be able to determine if the Apple ID belongs to one of you and reset the password for you if you can prove your identity.
You might want to try calling Apple by going to https://expresslane.apple.com; click 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID'.  In the next page select 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'.  Perhaps they can help determine if it's your ID and reset the password for you (and they probably have more expertise in doing this than the Apple store).

  • E72 sends email, but won't receive

I posted this last week at the end of a year old post, but only received word from the original poster telling that his fix was to get an I-Phone. After many years of dealing with Nokia idiosyncrasies, several months ago, I too gave up and got an I-Phone. It is beautifully reliable. Unfortunately, my daughter's phone died, and a friend gave me a new E72 for her. It looks like I'm back to Nokia reliability. Can anyone help restore my continually fading faith in Nokia? Here's my problem:
I've set up email manually, through the set up wizard, and I'm attempting to point "Sync Email " to one the of many accounts now in my phone. The email accounts can send, but won't receive. I have gotten into a never ending loop:
The help screen says to "To start synchronising email messages between your device an the e-mail server, select options>synchronise" However, there is no "synchronise" under options.
If I go into "messaging">options>settings>email", all the emails accounts that I have created show, but if I go into "messaging">options>settings>sync email", it shows "Mailbox in Use" "None".
When I click on "none", I get the message "No Mailbox defined. Define now?
Sure, I'll try it again. I click "yes"
My old friend the email set up wizard appears. Create another account.
    Goto 1
I've contacted Nokia. First, I was told to pull the battery and wait 5-10 mins. Same problem. Next, I was told to do a factory reset. Same problem. Finally, I was told that if it wasn't a tested pop3 (gmail, yahoo, etc), Nokia doesn't support it. I doesn't seem to matter that every Nokia I have had in the past work with my email server.
Has anyone found a Nokia-based solution to this problem?
Thank you for putting up with my frustration and for offering any possible solutions that you can suggest.
    John

    Hey Jason,
I have ran into this situation quite a few times in my experiences with fax issues,  it very well could be the digital line itself. My last suggestions for you would be to try a power reset on the printer, and also try a filter on the fax line to see if that could help the line. If you are still having issues with sending faxes, give us a call to our technical support to see if there are any more options for you.
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
Here is an example of a filter:

  • Email handler receives email but won't transmit emails:VIDCHAT/ICHAT OPTION

Email handler receives email but won't transmit emails:VIDCHAT/ICHAT OPTION is non-functional...
After three decades of Windows I decided to find my spouse a birthday/Christmas IMAC but if I don't do something soon about this learning curve we may part company after 44 years...
Is there someone out there that can assist me with these issues?
    :>/

Okay, now that I'm in the right forum I see that this seems to be an ongoing problem.  I checked the antivirus and that didn't do anything.
I did change the port from 25 to 587 and that seems to have opened up the outgoing emails.  They've seemed to been sent since they're no longer in the outbox.
BUT...now I can't seem to receive emails.  Ugh......
I ran the Verizon email fix app and it says it couldn't send an email now and I should call the 800 #.  What the heck is going on here when everything was working perfectly before?!

  • I have two personal e-mail accounts and a general account that I have synced to my Mail app, but I keep getting emails sent to the non-personal e-mail because they're on the same server. How can I change that?

I have two personal e-mail accounts and a general account that I have synced to my Mail app, but I keep getting emails sent to the non-personal e-mail because they're on the same server. How can I change that?

The only ways I know of for email to get sent to an account are:
    1. It was addressed to that account. Someone used that email address to send you the email.
    2. It was forwarded to that account by the account to which it had been addressed. I am not aware of Mail having this feature but it is often a feature provided by your ISP that you can turn on by logging into your account via the Internet and setting it up.  I assume you have not done this, though.
With several email addresses in the same Mail client, you have to be careful which one you are sending from. If you send from the wrong address, any replies will come back to that same address. I make this mistake all too often.

  • Yahoo and AllMyFaves display incorrectly. Yahoo Mail opens, but cannot see massages or do anything.?

Yahoo Mail opens, but no messages display.
Regular Yahoo website display is completely messed up.
AllMyFaves is my homepage. It displays in really small font, but no website logos or hyperlinks display.

I have two yahoo accounts and I know as they 'improved' their servers I had periodic outages. It'd work fine on my webmail on  my computer, webmail on the iPad, but not via the mail app. And it was stuff on their end. It may be a case of wait and see and you may need to eventually remove/readd the account on your iPhone.
When the issue is on their end, unfortunately there's not much for users to do beyond wait it out or find work arounds.

  • TS3274 how come all of a sudden, I cannot send/receive messages, but I can receive e-mails in my Ipad?

HOW COME I CANNOT /SEND RECEIVE MESSAGES, BUT I CAN RECEIVE EMAIL?

Sending and receiving messages has absolutely no relation at all to sending and receiving email.
Your iPad is not a cellular telephone.  It cannot send or receive SMS text messages.  It can only send or receive iMessages, which are messages to/from other Apple devices (only) on a WiFi or a cellular network that supports iMessage.

  • Why can I not send e-mails from my e-mail account? I can receive e-mails. Not an iCloud account. It is a Bell Aliant account.

Why can I not send e-mails from my e-mail account? I can receive e-mails. It is not an iCloud account it is a Bell Aliant account. An account I pay for.
This is the second time in three months this has occurred. Bell Aliant suggested I contact Apple directly as the only option is to remove my e-mail account and reconfigure it. This will mean losing all my files. These files are very important as my account is a business account.
Bell Aliant thought perhaps it is an Apple problem and that Apple may better be able to remedy the situation without me losing my e-mail files.

    Sorry ?
An Internet email provider losses all your Mail and it's Apple's fault ??
Did they explain how the app managed to delete all of your mail and then not even let you have access ?
If that was the case the app should still be able to access the empty folders.
I know there is often blame and counter blame in these situations but there are limits.
