Mail Settings Not Staying

This has become a problem since installing Mountain Lion:
I always keep the mail preference on my iMac set to "check manually", and to remove messages from the server when checked on it. It keeps "slipping" and checks mail automatically even though the preference still shows it as set to manual. Change and change back, and it stops...for a little while. This is very troubling as I need to get mail on my iPhone or iPad when away from home, but I miss most messages as the iMac at home has already retrieved them. HELP!!!!!!!!!!
ps- another (possibly related issue) is that the Control-Zoom feature is doing the same thing.  It stops working, then I have to change it to something else, then change it back and it starts working again...for a little while.
Many thanks in advance.

If that doesn't work, there is a section in the iPod settings that says some thing like: In next sync only, information on this iPod will be replaced by info from this computer. I believe that that pertains to mail accounts.

  • ICloud mail settings not saved in System Preferences on Mountain Lion

I note that iCloud mail settings not saved in System Preferences on Mountain Lion even if I tick mail in Icloud then close system preferences then open system preferences and it is untiked again?
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Color settings not staying synchronized

Using the latest versions of CS6. I've launched Bridge, go to "Edit", "Creative Suite Color Settings", select my setting and Apply. All applications are now synced to use the same color settings. I can check InDesign, Acrobat, Photoshop and it will show the suites being synchronized. If I quit the applications, then go back into any of the applications later in the day or the next day, and check the color settings, it will usually show the creative suites as not being synchronized. Not sure why it's not staying synchronized. Anyboy have any ideas as to why that is?

    Curt,
Thanks for the response. I'm using a Mac. Sorry I didn't mention that previously. I do not have Bridge set to launch at startup. Just checked the Color settings for the first time today, and so far still synchronized. But, no telling for how long. Just seems to randomly go out of sync. But, as far as I can tell, even when it says it's not in sync, when I check the other apps, they appear to be still using the same color settings, they just say they aren't in sync.

  • Outgoing Mail Settings Not Showing

    Hello,
I recently purchased an iPhone 4s, and had a little trouble sending e-mail from it (Hotmail). I had the settings good to go, and was able to send/receive e-mail from my Hotmail account, but then last night I got the Delivery Failure notification when I tried to send an e-mail. No problem, I'll just check the outgoing mail settings to make sure everything is set correctly, but they're not there?? I go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>My Hotmail Account>Account, and it doesnt show the Outgoing or Incoming Mail settings. It only has my e-mail, password, description, and below that the S/MIME on/off setting. I cant find anything on where the settings went. Am I going crazy or does anyone know what's going on?

Update: I called in to Apple Support and they advised me to set up another e-mail account on the phone. I did this (gmail) and everything is fine. It appears to be an issue with Hotmail and iOS playing well together. I've seen this around the internet as well, but haven't come across a case where the Outgoing mail settings just disappeared.

  • Mail settings not syncing

i have itunes set to sync 1 of my 4 mail account settings.
it's ticked in itunes and when i hit "sync" it says it is syncing the mail settings.
once it has finished i got to the touch and check the mail and it hasn't done anything, no mail account is there.
    any ideas ?
touch is on 1.1.4 (with software update).

If that doesn't work, there is a section in the iPod settings that says some thing like: In next sync only, information on this iPod will be replaced by info from this computer. I believe that that pertains to mail accounts.

  • Mail settings not saving in Yosemite

    Any ideas folks,
I have a number of email accounts on my iMac and Macbook Air, but despite the settings I apply and save the account reverts to the previous settings afterwards. This does not seem to affect the settings on my iPhone and mail arrives here fine. The particular setting I refer to is SSL (On/Off) and the port number. Also the two types of settings shown in the accounts pane and the preferences panes differ. Any help appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Ray

    Hi gravesendray,
Do you have this mail account set to detect and maintain your account settings? If so that may be leading the account astray. You can turn this off by going to the Mail menu > Preferences > Accounts > Select the account > Advanced pane > uncheck Automatically detect and maintain account settings.
    See this article -

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Mail settings not accessible

My iPad 2 is running iOS 5 and when I go in to settings and choose mail, the settings window closes and returns me to the home screen. All other settings work without issue. Any one else had this issue and know how to solve it?

Other people have had the same issue. Try closing Settings completely and see if it works when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Settings 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Settings app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
A third, slower, option is to :
    - backup your iPad via your computer's iTunes
    - restore the iPad back to factory settings
    - try restoring to your backup
If you try this then make sure that you've got all your content copied/backed up first e.g. copy your purchases (File > Transfer Purchases) and documents/files/notes etc in your apps to your computer first, just in case the iTunes backup/restore doesn't work - it should work but it's best to be safe.

  • Mail will not stay as default email reader

I have the mysterious problem facing a computer newly installed MacBook Air 2012 with 10.8.2. It has Parallels, MS Office 2011, but no MS Mail Application.
I have another account on this computer that is not affected by this issue.
The issue is that the default email reader is set to "Narrator".  When I change it to Mail 6.2, the setting takes until I close Mail. When I reopen Mail, Narrator shows again as the default reader.  When I click on a mail link in Safari, Mail opens.
There is no evident preference or preference pane file for Mail in the Library.  I was looking to compare the preference file with one of a computer I setup in parallel.
How do I find the preference plist file for Mail?
I setup all my accounts through "Mail, Contacts, and Calendar" so I think Apple is storing this configuration information elsewhere.

Never mind. It went away aftrer reboot.
Still don't know where the plist is for Mail though.

  • Default Apps Settings Not Staying Set

I have noticed that my default application settings keep resetting themselves each time I reboot. My default browser, mail app, EVERYTHING... without fail. Does anyone have a clue as to what would cause this to happen?

Try resetting the Launch Services database.
It contains that info, and may be corrupt.
Open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, copy the following text in, and press return.
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.fram ework/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
    Good luck!

  • My mail will not stay in order no matter what I do Miss a lot and some totally disappear?

I try clicking show by date works for a while then stops I look at mail then go to print later and many times it disappeared Search everywhere gone
I am missing a lot of important emails
Also can not save my contacts to my list Keeps saying I only have 2 )the most recent)

We are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
Have you created a new account or updated your existing account ? All content that you download from the store is tied to the account that downloaded it, so if you have created a new account then all of your existing downloads will remain tied to your old account.
If you've updated your existing account then try tapping on the id at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app and log out of it and then log back in with the updated id so as to 'refresh' the account on it.

  • Proxy settings not staying configured

Using FF 3.6.9 and I use a proxy server to access the internet so I manually set the settings for the proxy and I can surf the web.
But if I close the browser, and reopen it again, it returns to no proxy set.
I do not currently use a proxy setting add-on.

  • What's up with Mac Mail settings not porting and being so laborious?

i am wondering why at such a late date (Mountain Lion and iOS6) i am entering NINE (9!) entries for my email accounts on my iPhone and having to enter my email address for the new account THREE (3!) times - and then having to do this again for EIGHT (8) entries on both my laptop and my desktop.
i have had to do this again due to porting my website to a new host and - well - at a minimum it would be nice to get iOS 6 to only require me to enter my address ONE time (this means that for my ten email accounts on the iPhone i would cut down my entries from 90 to 70 which would be great).
then if there is some way to /port/ my email setting from my laptop to my desktop (assuming i am running the same OS on both) this would mean i would only have to enter an additional 80 entries instead of the 160 i have to do now.
am i missing some EXPORT utility in Mac Mail in Mountain Lion or - well - or is this software somehow not interested in making my life easier in 2013?
    THANKS

I tried the technique in that linked article with another account on my Mac. It works, but I think you'd be better off setting up the accounts. Here's what I needed to do (note changes with Mountain Lion).
Open you user/Library folder and copy the Mail folder to an external.
Open the containers folder and copy com.apple.mail folder to external (ML change)
On the destination Mac, select Get Info on each of the folders.
Unlock the padlock in the sharing and permissions section.
Click the Add button and add yourself. Set you to read/write.
Select you, then use the Gear menu to make you the owner.
Select any of the other users (except everyone) and delete them.
Copy the folders into you User/Library folder in the same locations they came from.
If you don't transfer the keychain, then you'll have to set the passwords for all the accounts, along with the SMTP server password, if set.
Your original plan I think was easier.

  • Mail settings not being "ticked" under iCloud.

Since moving to OS X 10.8.2, iCloud's mail setting is behaving strangely.
The iCloud pref pane in System Preferences isn't coming up as "ticked" when Mail is enabled.  Instead, a separate IMAP iCloud account appears under Mail, Contacts and Calendars. I've tried removing my iCloud account and renabling but the same happens.
Is this due to the @me.com address moving to @icloud.com - my address currently is still @me.com
