What's up with Mac Mail settings not porting and being so laborious?

i am wondering why at such a late date (Mountain Lion and iOS6) i am entering NINE (9!) entries for my email accounts on my iPhone and having to enter my email address for the new account THREE (3!) times - and then having to do this again for EIGHT (8) entries on both my laptop and my desktop.
i have had to do this again due to porting my website to a new host and - well - at a minimum it would be nice to get iOS 6 to only require me to enter my address ONE time (this means that for my ten email accounts on the iPhone i would cut down my entries from 90 to 70 which would be great).
then if there is some way to /port/ my email setting from my laptop to my desktop (assuming i am running the same OS on both) this would mean i would only have to enter an additional 80 entries instead of the 160 i have to do now.
am i missing some EXPORT utility in Mac Mail in Mountain Lion or - well - or is this software somehow not interested in making my life easier in 2013?
THANKS

I tried the technique in that linked article with another account on my Mac. It works, but I think you'd be better off setting up the accounts. Here's what I needed to do (note changes with Mountain Lion).
Open you user/Library folder and copy the Mail folder to an external.
Open the containers folder and copy com.apple.mail folder to external (ML change)
On the destination Mac, select Get Info on each of the folders.
Unlock the padlock in the sharing and permissions section.
Click the Add button and add yourself. Set you to read/write.
Select you, then use the Gear menu to make you the owner.
Select any of the other users (except everyone) and delete them.
Copy the folders into you User/Library folder in the same locations they came from.
If you don't transfer the keychain, then you'll have to set the passwords for all the accounts, along with the SMTP server password, if set.
Your original plan I think was easier.

  • What's happening with Mac Mail since Mavericks?

Phantom indications I have unread emails-in my "new mail" smart mailbox it shows three new messages, but when I click on folder, it is displaying no emails. My new "VIP mail", which I did not set up except my iPhone, shows messages from the VIPs but there are none there. Unread mail shows 371 unread emails - there are emails in the folder, but when I select all, it doesn't give me a choice to mark as read - just unread.
Hopefully, this will be addressed in an update.

  • I am using a mac mini (10.8.3) with Mac Mail 6.3 (1503).  Whenever I try to forward an email with attachments, the attachments do not make it.  They show being sent, but the attachments never are sent.

    Hey Guys,
The title says it all.  Whenever I receive an email with attachments, I will try to forward the email to someone with the attachments.  Mac Mail shows that the attachments are attached, but the receiver says the attachments are not there. Our mail host is Rackspace.  We are setup with IMAP.  It should be noted that we are experiencing similar issues with OS 10.5.8 with Mac Mail 3.6 (936).
We assumed Rackspace was the problem, so we logged into their webmail portal and tested it and the attachments were received as normal, which points everything back to Mac Mail.  We even had an ISP change but the problem do not change.
I have researched the problem, and there seems to be evidence of this being a known bug with Mac Mail, but I am hoping there is a workaround.  The company is unwilling to move to a different mail client since they use Daylite 4, which does not support Thunderbird.

    Back up all data.
    1. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.
    2. Repeat with this line:
    /Library/Mail/Bundles
This time you may be prompted for your login password when you remove the items. Make sure they're removed from the folder and not just copied to the Desktop. If necessary, copy them first and then move the originals to the Trash.

  • The picture ID on my outgoing Mac mail  is not mine -- it's the photo of boyfriend of my mother in law is appearing as my ID photo.  I have no link or connection with anybody  or other accounts whatsoever, and I don't have ANY third-party networks myself.

Nobody but you sees that photo, it does not appear on outgoing emails.
To remove the picture rather than change it, open Address Book and select your personal card, then from the menubar select Card > Clear Custom Image. Now the system will use Apple’s generic user picture in the login window and System Preferences’ Accounts pane. Mail and Address Book will remain blank until you designate a new picture in Address Book or System Preferences > Accounts.

  • SyncMate vs. FoneLink for syncing Nokia E50 notes with Mac Mail

    Hello,
After some searching, it appears that there are two programs that would sync my Nokia E50 notes with Mac Mail on my MacBook Pro - SyncMate and FoneLink. Both are priced at about $50 - a bit spendy. Has anybody use / compared the two? Are there other options?
    Thanks,

  • Exchange Server not working with Mac mail

Any tips on how exchange can work work with mac mail? I get connection errors.

    Hello Phil.
    Copied from Mail Help.
An Exchange account allows you to connect to your Exchange server via IMAP, and if you enter text in the Outlook Web Access Server field, Mail filters non-email related content from the server. (You can get the text you need to enter from your mail account provider.) For Exchange to work with Mail, Exchange administrators need to configure the Exchange server for IMAP access. Some system administrators may refer to an Outlook Web Access Server as an Internet Information Services (IIS) server.
Is the Exchange Server configured for IMAP access?

  • Problem sending emails with Mac Mail 1.3.11

Desperately in need of help. I'm able to receive but not send email using Mac Mail. I keep getting an error message:
"This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server"
I have already tried the following at the advice of AppleCare reps:-
Have verified & repaired disk utilities & keychains
    Have reinstalled the operating system
    Have trashed the mail.plist file
    Have trashed the outbox.mbox file
Getting quite frustrated now because we have a mac bookpro with identical mail settings and it is able to send and receive mail without any problems.Could it be the version of Mail I'm running ?
I initially thought that the problem related to having switched to a new ISP but the fact that one of the mac's has no problem has led me to be less convinced of that idea.
    Any suggestions gratefully accepted.
    Many thanks

I am having the same problem exactly. I can read e-mail, but get the same error message trying to send it. I can't use .Mac anymore--have to use alternate e-mail for the last month--since some time in October 2006.
I haven't changed anything on my G4, haven't upgraded anything, and the problem started about the time .Mac reported some customers were unable to use Mail for a couple of days in October.
I see nobody answered your post. Did you ever get your mail to work? I have repaired permissions, but I don't think it has anything to do with that.
    Thanks,

I was having trouble sending to hotmail accounts from my Earthlink account, they had me go into Mac Mail preferences and make changes (because they claimed it was Mac Mail's fault, even though the hotmail error code said it's because Earthlink is blocked by hotmail), now Mac Mail doesn't work AT ALL - any help changing the settings back to correct Mac Mail settings? I can provide a transcript of the entire tech chat session, if that will help...

both apostrophes are used correctly, thanks
doesn't = does not (this is called a contraction)
    it's = it is
    Mac Mail's fault = possessive
any help with the actual issue? thanks!

  • Mail folders in Mac Mail do not align in order

My mac mail 7.3 running on my macbook air OSX 10.9.5 will not align new folders in alphabetical order.  It used to a few years ago, but now every time I add a new mail folder, it just gets placed randomly.  My Mac consultant says its just a weakness with mac mail, but I find it hard to believe that such a simple task would be ignored by apple.  Anyone have any ideas?  thanks

Yes, what I think may be the case here is that adding a mailbox shows as "On My Mac" so OP is looking for a way to store "Off his Mac". You've also provided a solution for that but may be just a basic misunderstanding of the way Mail works.

  • Mac mail is not picking new mail

Using an iMac 27in 2012. Running Maverick 10.9
With Mac Mail, I have two (2) yahoo free accounts plus one (1) corporate account.
Yahoo (1) is able to send and receive.
Corporate is able to send and receive.
Yahoo (2) was receiving email up until 8:46AM EST yesterday.  I am able to send emails, but I am unable to
retrieve new emails from Yahoo servers.
I am NOT getting any error messages.
In fact with the connection doctor, mail is able to connect to IMAP and SMTP servers under this account.  I
searched on this forum and found a post to delete the UID files.  That didn’t work.  I tried rebooting, I’ve tried closing mail
and shutting down, nothing.  I tried deleting the account, and then re-entering the account.  Now everything is gone, just a blank screen.  Both other accounts are still able to send and receive.

    Hi lapvn,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like one email account is not working in Mail. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages - Apple Support
    Try webmail
Many email service providers offer a webmail interface that you can use to access your email via a web browser, such as Safari. If your email service provider has a web interface, open Safari, go to the webmail website, and log in with your user name and password. If your user name and password are not accepted, you may need to reactivate or reset them.
Note: The webmail interface is via your email service provider's web server, which is different than an email server. If there is an issue with your email service provider's email server, but not their web server, you may have issues in Mail but not in the web interface to your email. Contact your email service provider support staff to check on the status of the servers.
    Cheers,
    Mario

  • Password issues with Mac Mail-help!

I created a new email account through my internet provider (Comcast) and I can no longer access my email although it is showing up on webmail. The comcast person said I would probably have to change my password. I tried doing this on Mac Mail but there doesn't appear to be the usual place to type in new password and then confirm. I am not sure what password they are asking for. The mail account was set up so long ago that I have never used any password when checking my account. I also notice if I delete the password, the password dots are back when I open preferences up again. I don't understand this and Comcast will not help with Mac Mail questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You said you never used a password when checking you mail. You must have a password on the account, I don't see how you couldn't.
When you go to www.comcast.net and go to the webmail client, you must enter your username and password in order to get your messages. It's this username & password that Apple Mail requires in order to access your email.
If you want/need to change your password, you can do this at www.comcast.net from within the webmail client. When you are at your inbox on the webclient, on the left side of the screen there is a link for "Preferences". Clicking that will take you to another page and one of the options is "Change Your Password". That's where you would go to change your password for that specific email account.
    Good luck,
    Bronson

  • .Mac Mail account not sending properly

I have a G4 PowerBook and recently have had a lot of problems with sending emails through my .Mac account. If I forward the same email right after the original email, whomever I am sending the email to will receive the forwarded email but not the original. My original emails seem to go through whenever they want or not at all, mostly not at all.
Can anyone help me with this or is anyone else having the same problems as I am having.
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I can only confirm that other users have recently reported having similar (and other) issues with .Mac mail. I don't know what can you do about it other than reporting the problem to .Mac email "support".

  • My mac mail will not search mail anymore and doesn't load attachments anymore

Does anyone know why this would be happening?
My mac mail will not search mail anymore and doesn't load attachments most of the time.  When I enter some text in the search box no results come up and I know there are messages that contain the phrase that I've entered.
Also about 3 weeks ago attachments only get loaded about 1/4 of the way - if that.  So I have to log onto my web based mail program from the host and retrieve attachements or check the messgae with my iphone.
Please - does anyone know how to fix this?

I figureed out that spotlight was turned off via terminal -  I shut it off to unmount a disk (which didn't work anyways)
    sudo mdutil -a -i on
that's the termianl command to turn spotlight back on.  As far as my attachments not fully loading in mac mail on my iMac that still baffles me.
