Mail settings on second computer

I am having big problems with my second computer, since the arrival of iCloud.  My first computer (iMac running OS 10.6.8) has Mobile Me icons for my 4 Email accounts, and they all work OK -- but my MacBook still has the .Mac icons on the settings and I am having many Email problems.  Should the settings and passwords on the second computer be identical to those on the first?

Here are the email settings for iCloud:
iCloud: Configuring Mail with Mac OS X v10.6 or iOS 4
iCloud: Mail server information
Ideally, you should update your computers to the minimum version of OS X that iCloud supports - OS X 10.7.2 to avoid these setup issues.

  • Mail settings on one computer not sending, works fine on the other

I checked all settings against the working computer (Macbook pro), but still on the G5 is says "can't send through that server."
I've spent time on the phone with support, changing ports, etc, to no avail.
So would archive and install do any thing?
    And, if not, what would?
    Thanks

    John,
You have a modem and router, and the G5 is connected to the router via an ethernet cable -- correct? Do you have another cable to test with?
On the G5, open Connection Doctor -- what does it say about connecting to the SMTP?

  • How to transfer mail & settings to new computer?

I'd like to transfer my mail accounts and mailboxes over to a new computer, without using the Migration Assistant. Is this possible?

If you can mount the other computer as an AFP share on your desktop (in Finder's menu bar, choose Go then Connect to server or choose Go then Network), then launch Mail, there is an "import mailboxes" function under File in Mail's menubar. You'll be prompted to identify the type of previous Mail client, and you'll need to navigate your way to the mailboxes' locations on the mounted volume of the old computer.
I'd be careful about copying files and such from one computer to the other if one is Tiger and the other is Leopard. I don't know if everything is stored in the same format from one OS to the next or not. If they're both the same OS, you would be ok doing what Kappy has suggested below.

  • Trouble Replicating Old Mail Settings on New Computer

    Hello All,
I have just upgraded notebooks and have run into a problem with my Apple Mail. On my old notebook, I had my mail set up with two accounts as well as some mailbox folders. I looked up on the forums in regards to transferring data and did so successfully via the library/mail and library/preferences route.
My primary gmail account is acting a little fishy though on my new notebook. It has yet to upload any emails from the gmail server except for when I email myself from either the new computer, or my iPhone. I had both notebooks opened up side by side and I was getting new email on my OLD notebook, but not with my new one. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks so much

As it turns out, I almost had it right. I had to put my old "mailboxes" folder in the new location home/library/mail/
Then there was a little preference file that made mail see everything: com.apple.mail.plist
I put that in home/library/preferences and all of my old messages were in the new version, as well as all of my smart mailboxes.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Creative Cloud for Teams - second computer will only install as trial version

    Hi there
My company purchased Creative Cloud for Teams. I use a Mac at work and have installed it without any problems there. However at home i use a PC (Windows 7) and i have tried several times to sign into my Creative Cloud account and download programs so i can work at home but each time it will only load the programs as trial versions.
I have tried several troubleshooting options with no luck:
Clicked sign in on the trial window - but it just asks me for a serial number which i obviously dont have.
I asked my work IT dept to delete and resend my seat invitation which they did but it didnt fix the issue.
I asked my work IT dept to check with the reseller we bought Creative Cloud for Teams from whether there were any restrictions or settings which wont allow to install on a second computer but they said it should be fine.
My team mates at work have installed it on their home Macs without a problem, it seems to be only a PC issue.
I have had CS6 on my computer previously but uninstalled it all in case this was causing the conflict - but it didnt fix the CC issue.
I have uninstalled and used the Adobe Cleaner tool, then reinstalled but this didnt work - the trial days still kept counting down.
I uninstalled again, used a Registery cleaning tool (cleaned registery, temp files, browser temp files etc), used the Adobe Cleaner tool (just to make it extra clean), and removed all traces of Adobe from my machine. I reinstalled Creative Cloud Application manager, installed Acrobat to try it out. This time the trial days have gone back to 30 (rather than zero). I clicked on the "sign in" button, it signs me in but still asks for a serial number.
I tried contacting Adobe via the chat channel but was told after some time that i would need to speak to Tech Support. My dealings with Adobe Tech Support in the past haven't been the most fruitful, so i thought i would ask the forum as my last desperate attempt to solve this problem.
    Any and all suggestions welcome.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Reset the hosts file:

  • Unable to open "compose mail/settings/contacts" in standard view in 2 out of 3 Gmail accounts

Unable to open "compose mail/settings/contacts" in standard view in 2 out of 3 Gmail accounts. When "compose new mail" is selected "loading...." appears at the top then the page is frozen. ie you can't select inbox etc. Changing from standard to basic h/ml then clears the Loading... and gmail can be used (without spellcheck etc).
This might not be Mozilla, but I can access these accounts in standard view on another computer.

Your Gmail account may well be an IMAP account, just like the iCloud mail account. In which case it will work in just the same way as iCloud mail, except that you will have to set it up manually on each device, where as iCloud mail adds the account itself when you log into iCloud.
Whilst it works the same as iCloud mail it isn't iCloud that syncs it for you.

  • I need to move settings from one computer to another

    Hello All,
After a computer failure, I need to move the DW CS4 settings (this may not be the best term to use, but bear with) from the dead computer's hard drive (drive works fine) to another machine.
Specifically, all the settings in Site Manager...I really don't want to enter all that in manually, as I have over a dozen sites to maintain.
Is there a way to do this? Copy a certain folder or folders, or a utility in DW?
I have a 2-bay e-sata drive dock attached to the second computer so I can access the files no problem.
    Many thanks in advance!
    Sincerely,

    Bregent is correct about WIndows.
What I was stating is that if this is the original drive from the other computer it is a bootable drive.  What you would normally do in this instance is tell the OS that you want to boot from the remote drive and not your C:/ drive in the working computer.  On a Mac this can be done by holding down the option key on a restart ( http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1310 ).  Then you are prompted to select the disk you want to boot.  I believe Windows has a similar feature usually using the F keys on startup.  Another way to think of the booting from other drives is that normally the BIOS will look in the USB or CD drive before looking at your hard drive to boot in case you were doing an OS upgrade.  Otherwise, when you restarted, it would ignore the CD/USB installation and go straight to the hard drive.
If you are on a Mac I know the files are in the Library somewhere, but I don't know the exact filename and I can't find a KB article pointing to what you should be looking for.  But if you are doing this I would be selective and only look for the Adobe and Dreamweaver files and nothing else.

  • HP Color Laserjet CP1215 on XP home network will not print from second computer.

Win XP SP3 home network with two computers and one HP Color Laserjet CP1215 printer(USB) that is shared.   Computer one prints just fine, but second computer cannot print.
Print job goes to the queue and says "printing" and stays there for about two minutes and then says "error - printing" and then I have to delete the print job from the print queue.
Downloaded latest CP1215 print driver and installed it to second computer, added printer just fine.  No errors until the print job enters the queue. Downloaded the CP1215 Diagnostic Utility, but it will not work on second computer.  Have not tried it on first computer when job errors.

The Firewalls are disabled and from my laptop you can view all of the shared
Folders on the Desktop with the CP1215 attached via USB.
When I issue the print from my laptop that is on the same network, you see the

is USB attached to and then disappears about 15 seconds later.  Here is
how it appears on in the Desktop CP1215 Print Queue before it disappears

  • HT1277 Mail on my Mac computer does not update when I update my mail on my phone and iPad.  Can anyone help me with this?  Is there a setting I need to check?

Mail on my Mac computer does not update when I update my mail on my iPhone and iPad. Can anyone help me with this?  Is there a setting that I need to check?

All that you had to do was to sign into the old account in order to update those apps. What I mean is that you just needed to sign into that account in the store settings like I described and that should have worked. You didnt need to enter the credit card information again - you justed needed to use the old ID and password.
Anyway, I think the good news is that if everything else is OK with the new account, just download iBooks with the new ID - it's a free app so its not like you have to pay for it again. I'm not sure what the other App is that you are talking about - but if it is the Apple Store App - that is free as well.
Try this anyway, when you try to update iBooks, just use the old password if the old ID still pops up.
Did you try signing into the store settings with your new ID and see what happens with the updates then?

  • Setting up TV@nywherer, streaming from host computer to a second computer on LAN

Followed everthing in the manual and it is not working.
1  set to "no proxy", I think I need to since I did not use "proxy" in Internet Exporer\tools\internet options\connections\LAN settings...
2  I got the "server busy" message box on the "stream in" (second)computer with the message "server has rejected your request".
Can anyone with a successful setup give me more information on set up TV streaming from the host computer to a second computer?
    Thanks

I guess it's how you interpret the manual. The manual lists what is needed. It explicitely mentions both the tuner and MSIPVS for the host server, but only lists MSIPVS for the remote station. It may have been an error that the tuner was not mentioned.
I have been trying to figure out why you would need the tuner for the remote station.
    1. You probably can't install a second copy of MSIPVS in a second computer without a tuner without contravening the copyright law?
    2. The software won't install correctly without the tuner? As part of the install, the program checks for a tuner card, doesn't find one, generates error message, continues install. Since I could never get the two programs to work, I could never tell if the install error was a warning that I needed the card. If it is why bother to continue the install?
    3. The card is used to decode the stream in? I guess that would depend on what the stream in was. If it was an MPEG stream, would the on board decoder be required to decode the stream?
    4. What use could be made of a home based setup if a tuner card was required in each home pc? I mean, if I had to put a tuner card in every PC, why bother streaming and incurring the overhead, all I have to do is make a cable connection to each PC. But it would be a definite benefit if I could put a card in a single PC and stream the TV signal to other PCs running MSIPVS with out requiring a tuner in each PC.
The manual isn't too clear. The example host sites in the manual and installed with MSIPVS don't work. I can't delete them. But they do suggest that maybe MSI was thinking that people would install the cards commercially and stream to customers. On second thought, that doesn't make sense, because there is one host, one host stream to one remote stations (that has controll of the tuner remotely), that would not be efficient in a commercial service offering.
I know I'm missing something here. A good start to understanding this would be if your test showed that you can still receive a stream in at the remote station, without the card.

  • Help--why isn't Airport recognizing my network on a second computer?

The second Macbook in our household (OS 10.6x) has  suddenly stopped recognizing the Airport password in its keychain and refuses to use our personal network. The  password and  network work fine on our primary (administrator) Macbook (also OS 10.6x), but I haven't been able to get it to recognize the password in the second Macbook's System Preferences/Network.
When I checked the settings in System Preferences/Network/Advanced/Airport on the primary computer, my (closed) network had "WPA Personal" next to it.  However, when I click on the network name in the Airport drop-down menu and get the dialogue box that says, "This network requires a WPA password [not "WPA Personal"] and enter the correct password, then click "OK," the dialogue box just reappears again as a blank and says "connection timeout."  It keeps doing this whether I try to log onto the network from the drop-down menu or by going through settings in System Preferences/Network.
Also, lately  the second computer has  been disconnecting itself  from the network and switching itself to "Ethernet" in System Preferences/Network.  In the past, switching it back to "Airport" and making sure Airport is turned on has taken care of the problem, but now something more seems to be required.
Does anyone know how (1) I can get the second computer back online through Airport and (2) what I can do to keep it from disconnecting from the Internet and swtiching to Ethernet, losing the password from the keychain, or whatever it's doing?  Any help would be greatly appreciated--thanks!

    Still no success.  UPDATE:
    (1) I'm not sure I removed the correct file from [My account]/Library/Preferences as per instructions in the article because I didn't see a folder resembling "SystemConfiguration," only the file "com.apple.systempreferences.plist," which I did remove to the Desktop, then restarted the computer.  This didn't help, so I replaced the new file with the old one on the Desktop, as per article.
Can anyone tell me if I looked in the wrong place for this folder? If I did, I'll find the right place and see if that step solves the problem.
    (2) After the recommended steps didn't work yesterday, I decided to make see if the settings in my System Preferences/Network/Advanced were the same as on the second computer that won't connect, and some were, but the changes I made didn't help.  Changes:
"Airport" (Computer 2):  changed "WPA Personal"  to "WPA2 Personal" to match Computer 1.
DNS: "Server" and "Server Domain" both blank on Computer 2; entered both as per Computer 1.
TCP/IP:  On Computer 1, under "Configure iPv4 using DHCP," Automatic is selected and numbers appear after "iPv4 address," "Subnet mask," and "Router."  I clicked "Renew DCHP lease" for safety, then went to Computer 2.  No numbers appeared under the iPv4 menu, but I don't know if that's significant or not. I tried "Using DHCP Manually" and entered the same numbers as on Computer 1, but this was rejected as "out of range" (Computer 1 is in another room about 20 feet away, walls not usually a problem).
Went back to previous setting, still no numbers. Clicked "Renew DCHP lease."
None of this has changed the problem, which is that when I try to access my network on Computer 2 from System Preferences/Network (or from the dropdown menu, Computer 2 keeps asking me for a password and rejecting the correct password; I enter the correct WPA2 Personal password, click "OK," and get a timeout message and another dialogue box asking for the password again.  This seems like it must be a simple problem to solve!  But anyone tell me what it might be?
