Mail setup problem

I've had my macbook since November and have had no problems with Mail. Last night I opened it to check emails on two accounts and only one would work. Tried setting up the account again and get the following message "Logging in to the Gmail IMAP server “imap.gmail.com” failed." The username and password is correct.
I deleted the other account and set it up again and that works fine.

I faced this annoying problem before.
The solution is adding an yahoo mailbox on your phone first. By doing this, you have registered a Nokia Messaging account with that yahoo email address. Then try adding your gmail mailbox again. The wizard will ask you to use the same Nokia Messaging account or create a seperate one, you have to choose to use the same. Now your newly added gmail mailbox will work normally. And you can delete that yahoo mailbox w/o problems.

  • Mail setup problems on iPhone 6

Just got a new iPhone 6 and I am having problems getting mail setup and working properly with my 4 comcast POP accounts. The first one set up fine and let me select POP as the account type. The next two verified, but as IMAP accounts and gave me no choice to set them up as POP accounts. The fourth did give me the choice of a POP account. Although they all verified, no mail is coming through. I had no problems with my iPad Air 2, or my iPod, so something must be different on the phone.

    Hello gbol,
I understand you are having trouble setting up four POP email accounts on your iPhone 6.  Have you tried to back up your iPad Air to iCloud and restore your new iPhone from that backup?  That may be one way to resolve this issue.

  • MAIL setup problems?

My first iPhone will be the new one. Please address my concern with setting up my e-mail accounts, specifically that my two sources of e-mail are both said to be "troublesome" for the iPhone. I use RoadRunner and Microsoft's "Live" (formerly Hotmail) services.
Both accounts are POP and are functioning normally as configured on both my iMac and MacBook, so I believe it a simple operation to get started during my initial iPhone 4 setup. However, when I ask people at the Apple store (physical) and at AT&T, I get frowns, plus the "Well, you may have problems there. . ."
Big question, of course, is what kind of problems, why are they problems, and how can I avoid or lessen the impact of them? Going forward, I will anticipate adding a third source of e-mail, plus one or two from my own Website's host (Bluehost).
    Your help is appreciated.

Nobody will be able to comment on how Mail operates on the new iPhone until iOS4 is released on June 21st.

  • E-mail Setup Problem - Please help

Hi All. I set up two e-mail accounts (gmail) on my Curve using the Email Setup in the Setup Wizard. It works fine except I noticed one thing:  every incoming e-mail shows another contact person's address in the TO line. When I'm in Gmail, the e-mails are only addressed to me. When I retrieve them from Blackberry, I keep seeing this person's name, and want to know if he's somehow receiving my e-mails every time it loads in my Blackberry? How to I turn it off?
I'm assuming he's not getting them, because I haven't heard from him. But he's a work acquaintance who I don't know well enough to ask him if he's receiving these messages.
Please let me know if there's a way to resolve this in my e-mail settings or something. Thanks!
    Stephanie

Have you tried deleting the gmail account and readding it back?

  • Mail Setup Problem - Postfix error for username

I set up some users with a structured userid of say xxxxx001 etc. For the email id I user their names separated by an underscore eg [email protected] I get my mail clients to logon to our server's IMAP service using the xxxx001 type of id with MD5 security and IMAP works fine. I also get them to logon to SMTP with the same id and security protocol but keep getting a postfix error: od[getpwnam_ext] no record for user fred_bloggs. As a test I setup a dummy user with the network id and first part of email address the same and that works fine. Could someone enighten me as to what is happening please? Is it the case that if I have a different network id and first part of email address that I need to add an alias, I ask because that seems to work aswell, however, it does seem odd that such action would be rquired. Any help gratefully received.

Did you sign up for a .Mac trial account which is provided with each new Mac purchase and is good for 60 days or do you already have a .Mac paid account?
If not, you cannot create and access a .Mac account.
.Mac is the right account type if you have a .Mac account. With the Mail application your can create/access a .Mac account as a .Mac type account (which is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way), IMAP or POP and you can create a .Mac account as an IMAP or POP account with other email clients on your Mac or on a Windows PC.
I access my .Mac account as a .Mac type with Mail on my Mac and as an IMAP account with Outlook Express on my Windows PC at work. This way, I can keep all server stored mailboxes synchronized with both email clients.

  • Outlook 2013 Mail Setup Add Account crashes or will not connect to Exchange in Windows 8.1

I've posted this in the answers.Microsoft.com forum, as well as the Office365 forum, and they sent me here, saying the Outlook engineers would be the best to help with this.  I actually already posted this question a week ago, but nobody here replied.
Getting a bit frustrated at the lack of support, except for Richard over at the Office365 Forum.
I'm setting up a new laptop with Windows 8.1.  Just installed Office Professional Plus 2013.  I have an Office365 E1 subscription, but this Office 2013 is not associated with the subscription.
When I go to setup any email account using the automatic mode (primary will be Exchange Online with my 365 account, but I've tested POP email accounts with the same result), the Mail Setup crashes once the email address and password is entered and Next is
pressed.  This error message is displayed:
"Windows host process (Rundll32) has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
The step displayed as in process when the crash occurs is the "Searching for [email address] settings".  The first step "Establishing network connection" is checked complete.
I've run an Office Repair, and there's no change.  I've run a clean boot, and no change.  I uninstalled/reinstalled both from the Click to Run version, as well as reinstalling from a disk install, with the same error still appearing.
If I use the manual setup mode and input the server outlook.office365.com, both the Check Name function and the Next button result in the error message:
"The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."
I've disabled the firewall and still get this Outlook error.  I am able to start Outlook and it will run now, and I can connect POP and IMAP email using the manual setup, but still cannot connect to ExchangeOnline via the manual setup.  I still
get the error "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."
I deleted the Outlook data file and deleted the profile, and created a new profile, and I'm still getting the Add account setup crash Rundll32 error in the auto-setup mode.
Important to note: I tested my friend's Office365 E3 ExchangeOnline account and was able to get a successful setup test, so it doesn't appear that the problem is entirely just the Outlook2013 client, since it worked once with a 365 Exchange account.
I've been trying to get this working for 2 weeks now, and I am unable to completely switch off my old laptop using Outlook 2010 until I can get Outlook2013 setup on my new one, which is a huge hassle.
Can you offer any ideas or solutions?  Please help ASAP.
    Thanks,
    Jason

IMPORTANT: I found the solution.  Another user figured it out and posted the answer on another thread.
Please spread this around to all other Outlook support techs so they know to point people in the direction of the quick (though very obscure) fix to this problem.

  • Outlook 2013 Mail Setup Add Account crashes with Rundll32 error and will not connect to Exchange in Windows 8.1

I got a new Acer laptop with Windows 8.1 over 3 weeks ago, and installed Office Professional Plus 2013.  I have an Office365 E1 subscription, but this Office 2013 is not associated with the subscription.
When I go to setup any email account using the automatic mode (primary will be Exchange Online with my 365 account, but I've tested POP email accounts with the same result), the Mail Setup crashes once the email address and password is entered and Next is

servers have to be configured with the auto-setup and cannot be setup manually.
I've done both a system refresh and a system reset, and I'm still getting the Rundll32 error.  I tried to run a reset from a disk, but the laptop does not want to run it from the external DVD drive (giving error messages), so that doesn't appear
    to be an option.
I've searched extensively, and there doesn't seem to be any existing threads where anything like this problem is discussed.
Can you offer any ideas or solutions?
After THREE WEEKS of troubleshooting this, and some significant delays in getting help from support, I'm really close to returning this laptop.
I need an answer on this ASAP to see if you've got an insights before I return the laptop for a new one.
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • How do I get out of iOS Mail Setup?

    Hi All
I got a new iPad Mini for  Christmas.  I got it set up and working easily and fairly quickly.
I copied my Mail settings from my MacPro (OSX 10.8) using the "Sync selected Mail accounts" check box in iTunes. I've been reading mail on my iPad for about a month.
Yesterday I traveled several hours to stay with a friend for a while. I got the iPad on my friends WiFi without a problem and I can surf the web, map stuff and everything appears to be working fine... till I check email.
When I open Mail, I'm presented with the "Welcome to Mail" setup screen - like mail thinks it's not configured.
I go into Settings/Mail, Contacts and Calendars, and all my email  acccounts are there, just like they should be.
The iPad is playing the New Message alert chime as it fetches mail in the background.
When I open Mail all I get is the Welcome to Mail screen!
I tried putting in dummy info to get past the setup, but that fails and I end up back at the Welcome to Mail screen.
How do I get out of the stinking setup screen and back to my emails?

Thank you all for taking the time to read this. I believe I've solved the problem.
    What I did:
I have several email accounts (ISP, Gmail, etc). I have them set to forward to one 'primary' account and I have that set to Active and the rest set to Inactive.
I went into Settings/Mail, Comtacts and Calendars and activated one of the inactive accounts, and de-activated the account I normally use. This change apparently convinced Mail that it was indeed configured and it got out of the setup screen and back to may emails.
I then went back to Settings/Mail, Contacts and Calanders and returned the accounts to their original configurations. Things are now back to 'normal'.
This is clearly a programming issue. Apps should not need to be 'kicked' like that to function.

  • E 6 Personal Mail setup -- please help

    Hello E6 experts,
can you please help me with the steps involved in setting up personal mailboxes in the E6? It's been asked before here... Every time I begin using the mail setup "wizard" I only reach the option for Mail for Exchange. How can one bypass that to setup Gmail and a regular, Imap personal mail box? What might I be missing? Thanks in advance...

    Hello again,
I just found out about the problem-- One has to have a SIM card installed  (at least for the first time) to be given the options for the various mail services up-front during mail setup. I was trying t do this without a SIM card --using the WiFi connection-- which every other cell phone I have owned allowed me to do. Apparently the E6 is different... Perhaps this will help someone

  • Trying to figure out a good mail setup

I'm connected to a campus network.  My setup consists of a slow but functional desktop which I'm using as sort of a "server" with important applications screened, and a fast laptop which I use for general purposes, move around, and access the desktop's screen sessions from.  (The desktop also has lighttpd/php/mysql/vsftpd running, etc).  I also have another desktop that I may be setting up soon.
I would like to have some kind of central mail system.  On both laptop and desktop I currently have postfix setup for host only mail, but I was wondering if there's an easy way to have sort of a "central" mailbox.  I.e., I want a simple mbox style mailbox that I can somehow share between the two, or maybe just a way to send simple mail from one computer to the other, but not through my school's SMTP/IMAP.  I don't think I need a full-blown IMAP or POP setup, I just want to be able to easily send messages between the two computers.  I'm not very experienced with the linux mailing setups, so can someone just point me in the direction of a setup that might work?
I have been reading the wiki and googling, but most guides seem to either focus on local only mail, or sort of a small business network setup, whereas I want something in between.  I realize I'm not being terribly clear, but I'm sort of flexible in the setup as long as it works.

Ok, here they are.  This is a brute-force method for creating a local email server behind a firewall; nothing goes out on the net.
I'm sure there's a more elegant way of doing this, but with my limited understanding of the protocols involved, I plowed through it and got this to work.  The setup is almost certainly unsecure on the net.
The setup:  A machine named machine1.me.local (so named in rc.conf) running archlinux.  I tried using a shortname like machine1 without the rest, I couldn't get it to work. I share files on a workgroup using samba, so I don't have a DNS server or domain set up on my network. The user name is normaluser.
    1.  Make backup copies of every file you're going to change, so you can restore them if you mess up; e.g.
    main.cf.backup
    2.  Get postfix and courier-imap using pacman:
    pacman -S postfix courier-imap
    3.  As root, edit /etc/postfix/main.cf, uncommenting the following lines:
    #myorigin = $mydomain
    #mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, $mydomain
    #home_mailbox = Maildir/
    4.  Go to /var/authlib/authdaemonrc and edit the authdaemonlist line to:
    authmodulelist = "authshadow"
    5.  Go to /etc/postfix/aliases and uncomment the line:
    #root:        you
    and replace you with normaluser
    6.  Go to the line that says #Put your local aliases here.  Under that, put the line:
    normaluser:    normaluser
(I suspect this last may not be necessary, but I didn't take time to test it again without that change)
    7.  At the command prompt, type:
    newaliases
    8.  Go to /etc/hosts.allow and add a line:
    portmap: localhost 127.0.
    9.  Become normaluser and go to /home/normaluser.  Type:
    maildirmake Maildir
(if you are going to have more than a couple users, you may want to do something like this in skel, so you can just copy it across to their user home directories.  This step has to be done for every user who will have an email account.  There's a way to set up virtual users, but I didn't get into that.)
    10.  Add the daemons into rc.conf after network:
    postfix portmap fam authdaemond courier-imap
    11.  Restart your server.  If luck is with you, you should be able to set up an email account in thunderbird or the like for [email protected], and send and receive mail.  Your outgoing and incoming server need to be set to machine1.me.local.
When problems arise, /var/log/mail.log can be helpful.  Let me know if it works for you.

Hi am having problem with setting up gmail on my e72. i followed the setup wizard for mail setup for my gmail account. but i am not receiving any mails. my gprs is working. as i am able to browse internet and visit sites on the phone browser. i also tried giving incoming mail server as pop.gmail.com and outgoing mail server as smtp.gmail.com and access point is selected as vodafone live! which i use for my browsing purpose. can any one tell me what could be the issue.

  • 6720c unwanted E-mail setup dialog

I'm using my 6720c roaming on foreign networks, no problem except the phone from time to time displays an E-mail Setup dialog: "Allow application to use network to send or receive data?". I already have email accounts set up on the phone, but I can't find a way to stop this dialog appearing. It is annoying and intrusive, so for example it appears even while I am navigating with Ovi Maps. It makes no difference whether I answer Yes or No, it just keeps coming back.
Anyone any idea how I can get rid of it? Help, please!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks for your input, Crusch.
Your experience seems to confirm that
the E-mail setup dialog has been introduced by a recent software upgrade,
it appears whenever the phone registers on a foreign network
this behaviour is not caused by an isolated software glitch on my own phone, and it affects several phone models.
The problem now is to find a way of 'satisfying' the E-mail setup application so that it does not repeatedly reappear. The feature is undocumented as far as I can find, and Nokia Support staff can only suggest a 'reset' of the phone. I think point 3 above implies that a reset is unlikely to solve the problem.
I have held off doing a reset, and since I am now home from my travels I have no way of testing this or any other solution at the moment.
Come on Nokia, what's the answer?

  • Nokia N8 mail setup

    Hi,
i tried to setup my mail account on the Nokia N8, it tries to configure the account but then there is an error: Service currently unavailable, try again later
I successfuly set up an other mail account.
I don't know what to do because i even don't get to the page where to set up the mail servers and so on.
    I'm thankful for any help

    hi,
it seems as the nokia mail setup on the N8 checks for an existing mailserver (or record in the dns system), which has to be in the same domain as the mail address. But my mailserver was in a different domain --> the setup failed
I then made a setup with a mail address, where the mailserver and the address are in the same domain and then edited all the settings to my other mail account (because afterwards you can edit mailservers and so on)
    So the problem is solved

  • ** Yahoo Mail setup not working! **

Just purchased a brand new iPad, but am unable to setup Yahoo Mail on the iPad's Mail application.
I am setting it up directly through the iPad - not via sync.
I keep getting an error that the username or password is incorrect after choosing the Yahoo Mail option, and entering the information, and waiting for it to authenticate. The message i get is: "username or password is incorect from "imap.apple.yahoo.mail.com"
the username and password are both correct: i am able to access yahoo webmail using both my regular mac safari browser, and the safari browser on the iPad itself, without a problem.
I tried deleting the account and re-setting it up several times, using the yahoo mail option. i get the same result
I even reset the password to one that did not have capital letters, in case there was a case sensitivity issue.
It is a "free" yahoo account (as opposed to yahoo plus), but my understanding is that this should not be an issue.
very frustrating to spend $900 for this device, and not even have basic email functionality... this was the primary reason i bought the device.
Any help or suggestions are very much appreciated.
    [email protected]

hey, if you read up a few posts... i was able to resolve my problem with yahoo mail:
<<<after further research, it turns out that there are in fact periodic problems on Yahoo's end that cause this error creating a Yahoo mail account on a new iPad. While several repeated attempts to create the account failed at the time, i tried again a day later and it was successful. So problem solved.>>>
It appears that many people have had this problem with Yahoo. It must happen from time to time, something with the servers on yahoo's end. the error they give you isnt very helpful in figuring it out.
I suggest you wait a day, delete the account you tried to create... and recreate it not manually but using the built in mail setup, choosing yahoo mail. Keep trying until it works, because it appears the problem is on yahoo's end not yours.
Oh and whatever you do, don't let anyone tell you (especially yahoo) that the reason is because you don't have a paid yahoo account and yours is a free email account. My free yahoo account, and many others, all work just fine.
Hope this helps, let us know that you were able to make it work. Obviously this is a rather widespread problem that either yahoo or apple should address.

  • Mail setup crashes after IOS8 upgrade

I had an iPhone 4S and iPad 2 connected to Hosted Exchange. The iPhone stopped receiving emails and the iPad stopped sending them. For what reason I don't know. I didn't change any settings on the phone or my exchange account.
I tried deleting the email account and adding it back on the iPhone but lost all my email and then nothing was being pushed to my email account. I then upgraded the iPhone to iOS8 hoping that would fix it all and now the mail setup crashes when I try to add back my exchange account.
    Any ideas?

    Hi laceydanielle.
It seems that the junk filter database has become corrupt. Try this:
    1. Either shut down the Internet connection before opening Mail or take Mail offline immediately after opening it.
    2. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).
    3. Go online again. The problem should be fixed now.
