Mailuserstatus
when a mailuserstatus put on HOLD; will mailHost value be ignored?
I put some users on hold and changed the mailHost value to something other than local and mails are not going to hold channel? Any idea why?
Well, I suspect that some of your issues come from the change in how "held" is handled between the two versions.
I did offer you a way to migrate your users without needing to hold messages for them. It works. Please don't reject that method. Imsrestore will understand that the new messages in the target mailbox are not to be overwritten.

Msuserpurge doesn't change mailUserStatus to removed
Hi!
6.0p1
msuserpurge doesn't change mailUserStatus to "removed". It removes mailbox from the store. I must set then mailUserStatus manually to "removed" so that domain purge can do its job. We're having trouble getting the msuserpurge to work. When we run it with... /opt/SUNWmsgsr/lib/msuserpurge -g 0 ... it goes into an infinate loop. A truss of the process indicates... lwp_mutex_lock(0xFDD20000) (sleeping...) ... and when we try to ^C out it says... "^Cinterupt signal delayed while performing critical operations" Eventually I have to kill -KILL it. Running /opt/SUNWmsgsr/lib/msuserpurge without the -g 0 the job completes... but mailuserstatus is not changed to removed and the mailbox is not deleted. Help!

MailUserStatus=hold and changed mailHost
Hello All,
I've a system running 5.2p2 - have some test users with status on HOLD channel and mailHost value changed to a new remote host. I am not getting messages sent to the user's on hold status to hold channel and rather being redirected to a remote system - rewrite envelope shows the channel to which it queues is tcp_intranet.
What is wrong here?Hi,
I've a system running 5.2p2 - have some test users
with status on HOLD channel and mailHost value
changed to a new remote host. I am not getting
messages sent to the user's on hold status to hold
channel and rather being redirected to a remote
system - rewrite envelope shows the channel to which
it queues is tcp_intranet.I tried reproducing what you describe with iMS5.2 hf2.15.. but it appears to work fine:
==> modified account with

replace: mailuserstatus
mailuserstatus: hold
./imsimta test -rewrite [email protected]

Submitted address list:

=> Sent a test email, email now 'stuck' in hold channel:
bash-2.05# ./imsimta qm sum

How does this compare to your experience?

SMTP requests cause the directory server to allocate all processor resource
Using JES 2005Q1.
The problem started when adding mass number of users. When running the commadmin for a long time, the system will hang. We tuned the directory server by increasing the database, initialization and entry cache. I changed many other parameters to tune parameters. It was worthless.
I shifted to ldif and used ldapmodify to create those users.
The users were created successfully. But when the smtp traffic was directed to the server, the nslapd process will allocate 95% of the CPU in 5 minutes.
The problem is in the way the directory server is searched when it accepts an smtp request.
Knowing that the server is currently used only for Messaging Server, any suggestions on how to improve the performance of the directory?
Thanks in advance. The "lookthroughlimit" is set to -1.
I sent from a local user on the server to the same user and the log was this :

How to set expiry date for a mail account?
Hi there, i'm new in Messaging Server, need help here on how to set an expiry date to a specific mail user since the mail user will be just a temporary mail user. Instead of deleting manually, is there any smarter way of doing it?
Directory Server can be set to exipre a password, indeed. That will prevent the user from logging in, when it happens. There will be no warning, or anything like that.
The account will still be on the server, and the mailbox will still contain mail. It will still receive mail.
If you want to turn an account off, you will have to make some arrangement outside Messaging Server for automating it.
You can use any kind of program you like to set the ldap attribute "mailuserstatus" to "inactive", or even "deleted" as you wish.
You can use java, "c", or any other programming tools you like. Messaging Server and Directory Server aren't written in Java, anyway. -

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here? First off, I'm doing direct LDAP rather than the dirsync stuff. I'm getting the following when doing an 'imsimta test -rewrite -debug [email protected]':

See users/connections, who ar authenticated and sending huge amount of spam
I have delay in SMTP server. SMTP server has user authentication, so it means - if someone is sendig mail to outside of my domain, he must be authenticated.
I have turned on logging on all channels i have one main tcp_local channel, but the logging shows only information about message - from-to, reason. But does not show information about real source.
1) how can I see, "who" is sending huge amount of mail?
2) How can I drop connection, diallow this user for time or manage this user connections?

As always, please provide the exact version of Messaging Server you are running (./imsimta version).
I have delay in SMTP server. What do you mean by this statement? What "delay"?
SMTP server has user authentication, so it means - if someone is sendig mail to outside of my domain, he must be authenticated.
I have turned on logging on all channels i have one main tcp_local channel, but the logging shows only information about message - from-to, reason. But does not show information about real source. There is a whole guide about how to get additional logging information here:
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4428/bgbex?a=view
e.g. enable LOG_USERNAME to see the user that authenticated, and LOG_CONNECTION to see additional IP connection information.
1) how can I see, "who" is sending huge amount of mail?
2) How can I drop connection, diallow this user for time or manage this user connections? You could change the users password to stop them authenticating, or set their mailuserstatus: attribute to disabled and so forth.

I have currently installed Brightmail 5.5 to run with my iPlanet 5.2 Messaging server on Solaris 8. I have followed the directions as specified at: http://docs.sun.com/source/816-6829-10/index.html
I have added the following to option.dat:
Brightmail_Library=/u01/brightmail/lib/libbmiclient.so.1
Brightmail_config_file=/u01/brightmail/etc/brightmail.cfg
LDAP_SPARE_2=mailAntiUBEService
My first question is do i have the proper client library file of libbmiclient.so.1??? There isnt a libbmiclient.so.
I also added the following entry in the tcp_local mail channel in imta.cnf:
sourcebrightmailoptin spam
However when restarting the imsimta via cnbuild and refresh, I get the following error:
Unknown group identifier sourcebrightmail s found on channel tcp_local
Unknown group identifier spam found on channel tcp_local
Unknown group identifier sourcebrightmail s found on channel tcp_local
Unknown group identifier spam found on channel tcp_local
When I try to send through test spam per the brightmail test directions, it gets through no problem. I would greatly appreciate any insight as to what I am missing. Thanks,
PeteA little long but.....

Dear all,
I am currently facing an issue with inactive mailboxes, such users have the mailAllowedServiceAccess attribute in the ldif set to -all:* and have a mailForwardingAddress set to and adress outside my domain.
It all happens that if the remote recipient is not reachable (that's of the forwarded address), then I will be ending with high numbers of messages in the queue.

service.defaultdomain has a correct value. Adding uid to the alias list in amconsole did not make a difference.
KlaraYes, we did fresh/clean directory server installation. We use the SampleMailService that comes with the JES. We used DSAME to create the users.
As for the DNS changes, I am not able to provide the information but I will get it.

Hi,
JES2005Q4
116577-32
what is the expected behavior when creating an event in CE and inviting a user whose icsStatus is set to inactive?
It let's me create an event and I wonder if it works as expected. Shouldn't UWC generate an error message indicating inactive status of the user? Setting icsStatus to deleted generates an error message.
Thanks,
d.Hi,
If we take the behaviour of the mail server when mailuserstatus is set to inactive (emails are rejected with a 4XX temporary failure message) then it would make sense to provide some kind of error/warning/notification message.
I tried this out on the beta version of the next release and the behaviour is as you noted (no notification). I doubt whether the developers have considered this scenario actually -- so I would recommend that if you want the behaviour to be changed that you log a RFE (request for enhancement) via the usual support channels.
Regards,
Shane. -
The member of the Postmaster group, [email protected] gets email when it's sent to [email protected] (an automatically created alternate address).
But mail sent to [email protected] doesn't get sent to me...
This domain's users receive e-mail at [email protected] rather than [email protected], via associateddomain and sunpreferreddomain.
The postmaster's mail attribute was changed to be [email protected] from [email protected] - but either did not work. The base dn however remains "that.the.otter.com."
adding another alternate address (additional to postmast) as [email protected] (with the mail attribute in either state mentioned above) also resulted in:
Address list error -- 5.1.1 unknown or illegal user: [email protected]

what's postmast for? From the debug output it appears the following is happening:
22:02:19.49: Checking for [email protected] in the system alias file
22:02:19.49: - system alias file match for [email protected]
22:02:19.49: Initial pool address: postmast
22:02:19.49: - postmast
=> Match is being found in the /opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/aliases file for [email protected], this points at 'postmast'
22:02:19.50: URL determined to be: ldap:///o%3Dthat.the.otter.com%2Co%3Disp?*?sub?(|(mail=[email protected])(mailAlternateaddress=
[email protected])(mailEquivalentaddress=[email protected]))
22:02:19.50: Search succeeded but 0 entries returned
22:02:19.50: No matching entries were found that were valid
=> A lookup is being performed for postmast@(default domain) i.e. [email protected] which fails
So you need to fix either the aliases file or provision an account with [email protected]

Blocking messages for over quota users from the frontend
Dear All,
Is there a way to bounce back messages from the frontend for users who are currently over quota instead of accepting the message, then routing it to the storage mailhost and then bouncing it from there? We have multiple storage mail hosts and multilpe inbound & outbound servers. All servers are running iMS 5.2 with latest patches. Due to the fact that most of the received messages are spam sent using fake addresses, bounce back messages queue up on the outboud mail servers until they expire.Hi,
after reconstruct -q
user/mmmm: fixed quota root usageThis can occur overtime. It is usually not a big issue. Does user 'mmmm' reflect one of the 'problem' users? If you run recontruct -q again, do you still get these messages?
test user was able to receive mail again
(mailuserstatus=active) until overquoted again. Than
same thing happen (empty mailboxes overquoted users)Could you please provide the output for the test user for the commands I mentioned earlier (ldapsearch/imquotacheck).
Is it a good idea to cron recontruct -q?This shouldn't be necessary. If your quota database keeps getting 'out-of-sync' then this would need to be investigated.
During reconstruct -q we also got a number of these:
[12/Dec/2006:02:47:19 +0100] store01
reconstruct[14600]: General Error:
set_overquotastatus: cannot get ldap attributes for
user: xxxxxxDid the user in this example exist in the directory or are they 'orphan' accounts?
Can you see an LDAP search (access logs) which correlates to this date stamp which returned an error?

Mboxutil -o not working as expected...
imsimta version:
SunOS mars 5.10 Generic_125100-08 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.3-3.01 (built Jul 12 2007; 32bit)
libimta.so 6.3-3.01 (built 20:10:10, Jul 12 2007; 32bit)
We have 6.3 on a V240 running Solaris 10.
If my memory serves me correctly, in the old days "reconstruct -o" gave orphaned mailboxes. Then 6.3 change that to be "mboxutil -o".
Our problem is that we have known orphaned mailboxes because accounts are deleted, but they don't show up in the "mboxutil -o" command. The only two things that show up as orphaned are "Filtered Inbox" (whatever that is) and "ServiceAdmin".
What am I missing or should be doing differently?

An "orphan" mail-store account is one that has no LDAP entry with the same mailhost: and uid: value as the account in question.
A "deleted" account can mean one marked as deleted (inetuserstatus: deleted/mailuserstatus: deleted) or one that has no LDAP entry at all. For the former case you would use the <msg_base>/lib/msuserpurge command to remove the mail-store account, for the latter you use mboxutil -o.

Shane.
