Make imported SWF into a button

I need to import a SWF and make it clickable on the fly. So I
tried making a button, then overlaying the button with a movie
clip. Then loading the swf into the mc. But once I load the swf it
becomes unclickable.
Any suggestions?

load it below the button.
Place button on top layer and the holder clip in which you
load the
swf place on layer below. It should and must remain
functionality,
unless, the swf itself has buttons in it. You can't place
button on
top of another. They will collide and results in
unpredictable button
behaviors

  • Make a pic into a button

    I am new to flash. I want to make a picture into a button to
    link to a URL. How do I do this? please remember I am new so please
    baby steps. I would've tried F1 but it just doesn't open.

    Ok open flash. Select rectangle tool. Draw out a button at
    the normal size you want it. Then select the free transform tool.
    Select the button you drew. In the center of the button should be a
    circle. Drag this circle to the left edge of the button. You should
    only move it horizontally across so that its still in the center
    but on the left edge. Now select the black arrow again. Select the
    button again and right click it to convert to symbol. name it
    whatever you want. For this example I named it box. Make sure Movie
    Clip is selected. (I'll explain in a minute). Also, make sure the
    registration point is the left center edge. Just like when you
    selected the free transform tool. Click Ok. Now for the
    explaination. You want to always use Movie Clips instead of button.
    Well not always but most of the time. Because movie clips can be
    used for more than just buttons. I won't get too detailed but when
    this tutorial is finished you will see you can make a movieclip
    respond like a button.
    Now back to work! :)
    Now select box and go to properties and give instance name
    box.
    Insert layer. Open actions panel and insert the following
    import mx.transitions.Tween;
    import mx.transitions.easing.*;
    box.onRollOver = function() {
    var tw:Tween = new
    Tween(this,"_xscale",mx.transitions.easing.Elastic.easeOut,100,300,3,true);
    box.onRollOut = function() {
    var tw:Tween = new
    Tween(this,"_xscale",mx.transitions.easing.Elastic.easeOut,300,100,3,true);
    Now test your movie
    you can go to help and find out more about the transition
    tween classes. You can replace "Elastic" with "Strong" for a
    different effect. There are others you can use also. Like I
    mentioned before just look up transition manager or tween classes
    to view other options. You can have a lot of fun with actionscript.

  • Importing SWFs into Flash Library

    I used Camtasia Studio 4 on the Windows side to record some
    screen action. They play clean as SWFs in Flash player when I want
    to just watch them. However, when I import the SWF into the library
    of a new Flash project so I can use them in that project, the SWF
    comes in with a bunch of bitmaps and the bitmaps don't line up
    quite properly, the animation comes in with all sorts of artifacts.
    Why? Does anyone have a solution?

    I actually have the same question. What the previous post was referring to is that when you hit the import button in ITunes, a window appears that lets you browse your own drives for music files (like the 'file open" command). Mine defaults to the Drive D which is where my CD is inserted but the song files don't appear because my files are being read as ".acd" files and not any of the supported files. Any suggestions?
    In the import preferences in iTunes, there is no
    option to select .txt (or any of the others you
    mention), so I'm not sure what you are doing.
    Have a look at this.
    How to import music from CDs
    into iTunes.

  • I'm no longer able to successfully import SWFs into AE

    Hi and apologies for the NOOB question. I've been searching for hours for information on this situation but have had no luck.
    I've been using AE CS5 since last year, primarily to convert SWFs into high quality MOVs. Everything was working fine until bbout 3 weeks ago. Since thenm whenever I import a SWF, it displays  in the Project area as a 72px black box without any data regarding dimensions or file size.
    I can open older files and everything displays fine, but if I try to import a SWF (or even one that worked before), it shows up as the 72px black square.
    I'm guessing that it may have been an inadvertant upgrade of some sort that caused this, but have no idea how to solve it. I'm running AE 10.0.2.4 on a MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo) running OS 10.6.8.
    If anyone can help me resolve this problem, I'd greatly appreciate it.
    thanks,
    Mike

    Well, I've resolved the problem, kinda.
    I uninstalled Flash CS5 and AE CS5 last night, then reinstalled them. I then opened one of the AE files with the "junk" SWF in it, and nothing had changed.
    I then tried to import one of the questionalbe SWFs into AE on another machine and the same problem. But I could import a SWF made on that machine into AE (running on that system).
    Then I brought that SWF back to my system, and was able to successfully imported it into AE. I then imported one of the questionable SWFs made before the software reinstall, and got the 72px black square. So I opened the FLA made a new SWF and happened to move it to the desktop. I was able to successfully import that SWF.
    This is where it gets weird. I then made a new SWF and left it in the local folder with the FLA and tried to import it. black box again. I then drag-copied that SWF back to the desktop and I was able to import that.
    So at the moment, it seems to have something to do with the location of the SWF in relation to the AE file? That's the best that I can figure at the moment. Though I'm not sure why this would, or should, be a factor. I wish I had tried this before doing all the software uninstall/reinstalls… but I never would have thought that it could have been an issue.
    Thanks again for your prompt input yesterday.

  • Unable to open or import .swf into flash CC IDE

    hello, since I installed flash CC yesterday, I am unable to import .swf file into my .fla neither open .swf file in flash IDE. SWF extension is even not listed in list of supported files (I did all this normally in CS6 and before). When I try to open swf file in flash (because I got some assets in swf and need to edit it and put it to fla) it says something like "one or more files  were not imported because there were problems to read them." Shall I reinstall flash CC again or any other suggestion please ? thank you

    Maýbe you can install the trial CS6 from the product page and then sign in with your cloud ID? It has worked for me before when I had to re-install. After installed it should ask if you want trial or has a license, sign in to license and it should work again I hope. You may have to update CS6 after through the cc manager.
    Adobe should have put a full list of dropped features to read in one place before updating. It´s very poor customer management not to. But wise to all previous updates of Flash I keep every version, for ever if possible.

  • Importing SWFs into Captivate

    Help! I have a swf (flash movie) I am importing into
    Captivate 3. The swf (flash movie) is 6 frames. I need the movie to
    start on page 2 with the option of selecting the previous and/or
    next buttons (also set up within that movie).
    Right now if it displays on page 2/6, 3/6, through to 6/6
    ...I have no way of getting back to the previous pages. Hope this
    makes sense. I am just trying everything I can or know to get this
    working.
    Using ActionScript 2 - Flash 8

    Hi All - I made the adjustments as noted above. Published at
    30fps and Action Script 1.0. Checked transparency. Tried loading
    from top and bottom in Flash publish settings. Still no luck.
    I tried some other experiments as well. I right clicked on
    the animation and tried moving to front / back etc. with no change
    in results. But, when I merged the animation with slide background
    ... i could see an image of my swf in the published and preview
    versions. But, it was static - not playing.

  • Import swf into captivate 5

    Hello,
    I am new to Captivate 5, my scenario is - I want to publish videos (swf) files on our help desk. Previously all such files were part of HTML pages which require registration.Importantly I got all those flash files by getting the path of the file from HTML pages (eg. I opened the source of HTML page and navigated to where the swf file is mentioned and cut paste it)
    - Can I open existing swf files into Captivate 5
    Regards
    Syed

    Welcome to our community
    Are you asking if Captivate will allow you to click File > Open and open one of these files and allow you to make edits to it?
    If so, the answer is no, it will not allow that. You should be able to insert one of these files as an animation on a slide, but how well that may or may not work will depend on a number of factors.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Importing SWF into Final Cut Pro with no Background

    Hi Everyone:
    I've created an animated macromedia .swf file and imported
    into Final Cut Pro successfully just as an .swf file. I can see the
    .swf file animate in Final Cut Pro, the only problem is there is a
    white background along with my animation. I've seen many slighly
    related threads to this problem, but no end solution or work
    around. any help? here's what i've seen in posts and other forums:
    - create another layer below your object and place a
    tranparent color swatch box the size of your stage size
    - export the flash file as .mov with an alpha channel
    transparency
    - export the flash file as a .mov with an alpha channel, then
    open in quicktime pro, then re export again as a quicktime movie
    with the "Millions +" option.
    - i've also heard something about having the right codecs, or
    purchasing some other 3rd part software.
    none of these approaches have worked for me. My Dream would
    be to just import the .swf file straight into Final Cut Pro. I've
    been exporting my flash movies as a png sequence and importing
    every image into FCP for the time being. I'm also thinking about
    just making the background bright green, because i think i just
    chroma key it out, but i'm not sure how clean this will be.
    here's the related thread:
    http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=242444
    Thanks for any help.

    You need one of these: http://desktop.thomsongrassvalley.com/products/videoconversion.php to do it properly. The ADVC 300 is the best option for the money.

  • Need to import .swf into Flash 8 project

    I'm working on a project that requires me to use an already
    made .swf file in it. I'm creating the whole project (which is a
    presentation) strictly in Flash 8. This project requires a user to
    be able to navigate through various menus and categories to see
    what's in them. Most of the categories have a slide-show of images
    that are accompanied by a voice over sound track that explains to
    them what they're watching; however, for other categories I already
    have a previously created .swf file that I need to import into
    Flash 8. The issue that I've noticed when I just import the .swf
    file into Flash is that the file plays at about 100x the original
    speed. I think that it is because Flash looks at this file as one
    frame and tried to play everything all at once. I also looked into
    the possibility of trying to the loadMovie() function, but that is
    not that convenient for me because this requires me to decompile
    the .swf file into .fla and edit it so that a user has a way of
    coming back to the main menu of the presentation from that movie,
    unless there is a function parameter of loadMovie() similar to
    HTML's "_blank" where a new window opens so that the user can close
    this window without having to worry about restarting the
    presentation. I hope that what I'm doing is clear, and I'm very
    much open to any suggestions about what I should do about it or any
    other ways of doing what I'm trying to achieve, which is to be able
    to play already-made .swf files in my Flash project. To give more
    details on these .swf files, they were originally created in Adobe
    Captivate and exported into .swf. They play perfectly when you play
    them, but it's just that there is an issue when I try to play them
    from my Flash project. Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi Braulio
    a good tutorial site can be found at
    http://www.kirupa.com
    and also, look in your Flash Docs, for loadClip() and
    loavMovie() methods. They should get you started on some ideas to
    import external content.

  • Importing SWF Into CS4 Flash Stage Results in text errors

    I have a inDesign CS4 (.4 update) exported SWF that behaves badly when it is imported into Flash Pro CS4 (.2 update).
    Hyphens in the text on word breaks are being changed into question marks. Font used is Arial.
    The SWF ( attached) views fine in Flash Player 10, but produces the errors when imported to the stage. I have tried all settings (Text to Vector Paths, Text to Flash text) but the result is the same. Rasterizing the text is unacceptable because text quality is severely reduced on zooming the Flash document.
    If you try importing the attached SWF to a blank file stage, you will see the errors on page 3.
    So far, the only fix I have is creating all text in flash.
    Any ideas?

    Did you read the original post?
    I'm creating an Emagazine in InDesign CS4. There is no option to imbed fonts in the exported SWF, nor should there be any need there as the same computer system is creating the flash magazine. I have tried both Arial and Times fonts with the same end result. The Emagazine works just fine with the exception of the font issue.
    In the original post, I also attached examples of the issue. If you open the SWF in Flash player, it shows the correct fonts. Once imported to the stage in Flash CS4, the errors appear.

  • Import SWF into illustrator

    Hi there
    Just wondering if anyone knows a way to import an SWF sequence into Illustrator?
    I've tried placing and opening the swf in illustrator but neither seem to work
    Thanks a lot
    Larry

    I think the best you can do is export from Flash as a gif, jpeg or png sequence.

  • Import .swf into Motion... Possible??

    Does anyone know if you can import any type of Flash file into Apple Motion?

    Short answer: sort of.
    From Flash, you can export to a QuickTime movie via File > Export > Export Movie, and if you export with transparency (the "Ignore stage color" checkbox should be on) to a codec that supports it (Animation 100%) then you can bring that into Motion.
    Motion doesn't seem to import QuickTime movies with Flash tracks, even if you've enabled that option in QuickTime preferences (under the Advanced tab). Final Cut Pro will import a QuickTime with a Flash track (though transparency is ignored) but when you send one from FCP to Motion, the media will be "missing".

  • Control imported swf/movieclip

    I have one swf importing a number of other swf's to play in turn. I wish to control the imported.swf which is loaded into a movieclip (MainScreen) from the main.swf - in AS2 I used
         MainScreen.sfp=1;
         MainScreen.gotoAndStop("wait");
    which stopped play and sounds in the imported.swf or  MainScreen.gotoAndPlay("go"); which started the imported.swf
    In AS3, I have tried the same thing but get no response, though I can lick on a button in the imported.swf to make it play, I cannot control it via the main.swf - have also tried this.MainScreen.gotoAndStop("wait"); but no change. Am stuck as I do not wish to include buttons on each imported swf.
    Also: Can I copy the contents of one movie clip to another.  I have a series of movieclips mcp1, mcp2... inside another movieclip (mcp). I initially load several external.swf into this movieclip (mcp.mcp1 mcp.mcp2 ...etc) so as to see the progress of each swf loading (maybe 15 or 25 depending) then show one page at a time fulll screen. I have then in the past simply relaoded one imported.swf into the MainScreen movieclip which is quicker having preloaded each swf in a group, but this seams inefficient. Any comments or ideas appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thank you Ned... 12,500 responses odd, you have made more responses than I've had hot lunches.
    I appreciate you comment about removeChild and not unload, and that is what I tried to try.
    stop();
    function fwd_bF(event:Event):void {
          trace("fwd:");
          SoundMixer.stopAll();
    MainScreen.removeChild(ldr);      // MainScreen  is a movieclip
            pgno+=1;
           gotoAndStop("g_g");
          function rev_bF(event:Event):void {
       MainScreen.removeChild(ldr);
               SoundMixer.stopAll();
               trace("rev: "+pgno);
               pgno-=1;
               gotoAndStop("g_g");
    books_b.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, books_bF);
    home_b.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, home_bF);
    fwd_b.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fwd_bF);
    rev_b.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, rev_bF);
    ldr.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.INIT, dealWithIt);
    MainScreen.addChild(ldr);
    function dealWithIt(evt:Event):void {
          var MainScreen:MovieClip = MovieClip(evt.target.content);
          MainScreen.gotoAndPlay("go");
          play_b.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, play_bF);
          stop_b.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, stop_bF);
          function play_bF(event:Event):void {
                trace("go...");
                MainScreen.gotoAndPlay("go");
          function stop_bF(event:Event):void {
                trace("stop...");
                MainScreen.sfp=1;
                MainScreen.gotoAndStop("wait");
    ldr.load(new URLRequest("swf/"+arm[pgno]+".swf"));  // arm[*] is array containing swf names.
                                                                                          // pgno  :Number keeps track page we’re at
    I have trouble getting the MainScreen to removeChild, it either removes the ability to reload or leaves multiple swf’s loaded into the mc. I’ve tried using MainScreen.removeChild(ldr) and MainScreen.removeChild(evt.target.content) inside the dealwithit function, but it does not like that either.
    I found a loader at Google that brings in multiple files (swf, jpg, mp3 etc) and puts swf’s to an array. Which all sounds applicable to what I require, but being new to AS3 etc it seems to be hidden in packages and cryptography, so I will need to see how I can put it in place. But I think I will still be faced with the same problem of then controlling the various swf’s.

  • Importing Flash into PowerPoint

    Hello - I have a Flash file that I would like to import into PowerPoint.  Below are my questions.  I am hoping to get some guidance on this.
    First a few pieces of information:
    1.  I use a Mac but have a Parallel system at work so I have access to Windows PPT 2008.  I am using Flash CS5.
    2.  The Flash file is not huge, it's just these animated curtains that open up to reveal a logo and text.
    Questions:
    1.  I have found the only way to import the Flash file is to export as a .mov and then import that into PPT.  This works great EXCEPT for that the text and logo look blurry in PPT.  I have no idea why.
    2.  Is it possible to export a .mov file with just the curtain animation but with a transparent background so that when I import into PPT, we can just type the text directly within PPT and not have to include that in the Flash file?
    3.  I read online that you can import SWFs into Windows PPT but I have not been able to get that to work either.
    Thanks in advance for any and all information!!
