Make settings from an existing video.

Can Compressor detect the specifications of an existing video and create Settings from it?
If not, any sugestions on how to go about this?
UPDATE: I found the answer: https://discussions.apple.com/message/10674908#10674908

Not really... The only thing (info) you can get from the (match to a ) Qt video is; frame rate, data rate, video dimensions, file size, total time for the video.

  • Can I import (or create) default Lightroom settings from an existing document?

Can I import (or create) default Lightroom settings from an existing document and save them? Make them a personal default set opening with all future LR catalogs?

Thank you, John. That brings up the question: How to build a template?
BTW, I'm not trying to duplicate a catalog; moving it to a larger drive. When opening the newly moved catalog in LR, my former settings (identity plate, defaults, etc.) didn't migrate, though I copied the LR settings folder and its contents into the new location (drive) and opened my develop presets.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 switching sequence settings from previously edited video clips

When importing my video clips into Premiere Pro, which are currently set at 1920 x 1080 both from the video clip and sequence settings, it switches  to 720 x 480 (says file has mismatch - keep or change settings, I've done both results the same) when I export and when I put clip on timeline it switches it to 1440 x 1020.  The video clips were done on a earlier version of Premiere Pro at another facility, where we put the audio and video together to make a complete video clip  We shot the footage using a Canon DSLR at 24 ups and are MOV files, done on a Mac
If anyone else has had this problem and found a solution, plese pass on.
    Carl A.

Take your imported footage and create the sequence by dropping one of the video files on to the "New Item" button.
If your footage is actually showing in the project panel as 1920X1080, the sequence that will be created will match that. Guaranteed.

  • How do I move settings from one Airport unit to another?

I am considering buying one of those new Airport Expresses, the one with dual band. I have a few questions about importing the settings (from my existing Extreme unit):
    - Is it true that it's better to start from scratch when setting up the new unit (vs. importing the settings from the old), because the performance will be better?
    - Assuming I do import: Won't there be a problem where, even for a short time (that is, until I deactivate my old unit), I'll have two Airport units with the same settings running simultaneously? What should I do about that?
    - How do I reset my old unit to its factory settings so I don't have my network name and password still stored in it?

I always prefer to factory reset. Never bother with importing, and when I do it didn't always work right for me anyway.
To reset the router to factory defaults, hold in the reset button as you plug it into the outlet. Keep holding the pin down until it flashes amber rapidly.

  • How do I make a new shape from 2 existing shapes in Ps CS6?

Once I have drawn the shapes the 'intersecting shape area' etc option is greyed out, I can draw a new shape to do thins but how do I use 2 existing shapes. I know this should be easy I just can't work out how to do it.

Wow dude thanks for the help that's very cool of you to bother to do that, but no sorry that's not what I mean either, That is useful but I actually can't select shapes like you do in the video I get a "could not select blar blar blar because its not inside the vector mask of a visible layer" warning, and again sorry for my late replies I'm very busy, new baby, work, etc etc and I really do appreciate your help. I want to make a new shape form the overlapping parts of 2 existing shapes. So I draw a shape (shape 1), make a new layer and draw another shape (shape 2), and then later decide the overlapping parts need to be a new shape (shape 3). So I could duplicate shape 1 and then using the pen tool select 'Intersecting shape area' and try and draw the same shape 2 again but that seems to be a stupid way to do it, I'd like to know the process to make this new shape 3 from the existing shapes 1 & 2, there must be an intelligent way.

The main point is that Aperture is used to make digital negatives as good as they can be (for the uses you define), but it does not ADD date to your digital negatives, nor does it produce NEW combination files.  For those tasks you need a Graphics program.

  • Trying to erase settings from my old iphone but when I have to enter my itunes ID password the old email address is displayed.  How can I change this to my existing itunes account so I can reset this phone?  Thank you.

Trying to erase settings from my old iphone but when I have to enter my itunes ID password the old email address is displayed.  How can I change this to my existing itunes account so I can reset this phone?  Thanks in advance.

I know it sounds weird, and that is the reason I posted my question.  Because my case is not like all the ones I've found online and it's confusing.  I added a screen capture of my itunes with my old iphone (the one that houses my playlists) connected to it.
My playlists "ARE"  in my iphone 4s.  They are still there even though they do not show up when I plug in to itunes in my computer.
When connecting my phone to itunes on my macbook, the playlists do not appear anywhere in itunes.  I have found my connected iphone icon, I have clicked on the arrow next to it and it does pull up the standard lists that come with the iphone/itunes:  Music, Movies, TV shows, books.  That's it! below that is "Genius" and below "Geniuns" is "PLAYLISTS"  but the only playlist of mine that shows there is one that I created several years back titled "90's music" and that one I created it on my computer, not my phone.  Under "90's music" there are also other standard playlists that itunes automatically adds.
Does anyone else have this issue or know how to get around this.  I am starting to think that I am going to have to recreate these lists on my computer

  • Conversion settings from fcp to dvd studio pro?

i have a seven minute short subject that i need to burn to dvd using dvd studio pro. before i export from fcp, wanted to double check my fcp export settings with anyone who's been there before.
here's my choices: export with quicktime conversion, under standard video compression settings choose none for compression, select best quality and choose millions of colors. also no compression for audio.
i've got to burn six of these suckers for festival screeners and require the best possible quality so i'd appreciate someone letting me know if i'm heading the wrong direction. btw... the dvd burn on a file this size without a menu seems pretty straightforward, but if there's a pitfall i'm not seeing please let me know that as well.
    muchas gracias.

    Dear Wolfman51
From my personal experience, I find it's much more efficient to export using QUICKTIME MOVIE, a dropdown menu will ask you these questions: SETTING, current settings; INCLUDE, audio and video; MARKERS (up to you)
    uncheck MAKE MOVIE SELF-CONTAINED.
save it where you can find it. It will do a quick export. Open COMPRESSION, drag this file into the COMPRESSION FOLDER, check your settings (MPEG2) and let compressor compress.
Then drag this MPEG2 into your DVDSP.
You can skip using compressor, and drag the uncompressed QTIME straight to DVDSP, it will automatically compress. I found DVDSP doesn't compress it cleanly, therefore chose compressor to compress my movies before importing them into DVDSP.
I hope this helps, I look forward to reading more postings, perhaps I'm going thru too many steps.

  • Alpha channel basics from Canon 7D video

Maybe I'm missing something basic here, as I am pretty new to messing with alpha layers/channels on VIDEO. I otherwise have a pretty good understanding of alpha when it comes to animations, photos, etc.ffects
I am trying to make the black in a video of some flames into an alpha layer so I can use them as particles in After Effects.
    ( like in this video http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/green_smoke/ )
I understand the codec/format restrictions for alpha channels, but the problem is I can't seem to get the black to come out as an alpha layer at all.
I've tried Quicktime with the None codec and FLV and the other formats that are supposed to support alpha channels.
I THINK what's wrong is that the format that the Canon shoots in doesn't have an alpha channel natively so exporting the video into different formats is not having an effect. If this is the case, how does one go about making the black parts of a video into an alpha channel.
I know there are ways to make green into an alpha channel (greenscreening). I can't for the life of me figure out how to get premier OR aftereffects to recognize the straight black as an alpha layer though.
I've looked at some 30 tutorials trying to figure this out, but it would appear I am incapable of asking the right question to get the answer I want.
    There's the export settings.
Perhaps someone can point out my gross missunderstanding of what I'm trying to do, or otherwise set me on the right track.
Below is a clip from within aftereffects... the arrow shows that the clip SHOULD have alpha properties... i think, but when I turn off the alpha channel EVERYTHING dissapears.
Do I need to d something in aftereffects?  I dunno, I'm lost.
If someone thinks they can help I am willing to make a youtube video showing what I'm doing.

awesome... exactly what I was looking for
you'd think when spending an hour or more asking the question "how do you add an alpha channel to a video" this would think this would come up
having a weird issue now with it rendering a box in the lower right hand corner though... it bugs me that I don't know why it's there... but i'll just crop it out
    again... thank you!

  • Is it possible to deconstruct an existing video to get its component parts?

I made a video http://gallery.mac.com/lorna6#100193 years ago from footage taken in about 2000 and 2001. In a prior thread I mentioned having somehow losing the AUDIO component. Well, disturbingly, I went and watched the video from my old iMovie '06 and discovered that it was the video clips that were missing, not the audio. In the picture below, those black frames represent no video to be seen. I think that the exclamation mark in the yellow circle means the same thing or that something went awry.
Here is a picture of the clips in the work space part -- the upper left quadrant, of my iMovie '06 project.
To clarify: I forgot how I made that video because it was so long ago. I know from reading about iMovie '09 that I will probably do more videos on it because it sounds less complex but equally good for the most part.
Someone in this forum, John, encouraged me to go over the highlights of that old video using the iMovie '09 program and I liked that idea........ so you can imagine my dismay when I returned to the program, opened it up, and now see that I lack not the audio, but the most precious video.
Sadly, the original footage is lost due to external hard drive crashes. I might have kept a memory chip that had it but after all these years and me being disorganized, I do not know where it is.
Is there a way that I can use the iMovie 06 video that you see at my Mobile Me Gallery to extract the clips and the audio? Or if not the audio, then at least all of the video clips? *Is it possible to deconstruct an existing video to get its component parts?*
    ~L

I have had a series of iMovie applications but I used them all too infrequently, partly out of Fear of Trying. Now with the iMovie '09 out, I think I can do it. Yes, I know that I made the Cheyenne video with a previous app, but I found it confusing at times, and look now and see how I bollixed it up, losing some clips in ways I do not know.

That's a miniDV camera, which uses tape. It's very similar to my earlier camera, as listed in my details below - the Sony DCR-TRV20. I now mainly use a high definition AVCHD Sony HDR-SR7 - that's why I've switched from iMovie HD 6 to iMovie '09.
    .......... Lorna says ...........................
John, I call that a Pandoa's Box paragraph up there! First of all, I am left thinking that the type of videocam that I use will determine which kind of iMovie application I use. Yes? Can I assume that since you with your Sony DC-TRV20 have high definition AVCHD, then my DC-TRV11 might also have it.
I have my user manual in front of me and looked in the Index for both HD and AVC (what is the C in AVC?), and neither is listed. I cannot find anywhere in the manual that tells whether my mini digital TRV11 also has high def AVDHC.
How important is that in using the new iMovie '09? If my Sony does not have it, then does that simply mean that I cannot make use of the HD capability of iMovie '09?
All of this would have been a moot question because earlier I had decided to just use the video component in my Canon digital camera, but then getting my Sony mini digital out and seeing and touching it, and remembering it worked, I began thinking that maybe I should use the camera video for when I am away from home and the Sony for when I am here at home.
There is one thing I would say about HD: It is a memory gobbler, and if you make videos for YouTube, you might feel the constraints within that platform. It might be better for showing things to family and friends on your home tv with no megabyte or time restrictions.
    You/John C. continued writing:
Your thoughts on archiving and backup sound sensible Lorna. I must admit, I don't backup as often as I should. I've been using the old Apple Backup program, but am considering moving to Time Machine, with an appropriate hard drive to match - maybe Time Capsule like you are using.
    .......... Lorna says ...........................
John,if you decide to get Time Capsule to work wirelessly and continuously with Time Machine, then I suggest you consider a 2 terabyte capacity. I began using the Apple Back up but found it confusing and ultimately insufficient.
    You/John C continued writing:
Currently (as listed below), I have 4 external hard drives - 3 are FireWire 400 and the largest one is FW 800. None of these has ever given me a problem (touch wood) - they are LaCie 120GB (not your favourite!), and 3 Maxtor's - 250GB, 300GB and 1TB. The 1TB drive is RAID enabled, having two 500GB drives in the enclosure, which I'm effectively using as one drive, that is, one is not a mirror of the other - so if one fails I've lost all the data! A good reason for using Time Machine.
    .......... Lorna says ...........................
John I still am not clear on what RAID is and I guess I will Google it to find out. What is the purpose of having two separate drives housed in a shell? Is it about saving space? Or is it about ports? Or what?
Of course, if you get the one that was mentioned by someone earlier, than it would warn you when something is about to go wrong and you could act pre-emptively. But that was suggested for a business or a pro, neither of which I am.
    You/John C wrote:
As my HD camera is a hard drive model (60GB), I archive the footage to the Maxtor 1TB drive, using iMovie's "Archive All" feature. From there, it's easy to import clips into an Event, which is also stored on the Maxtor - so double jeopardy! I had better get cracking on updating my backup strategy
    .......... Lorna says ...........................
I am lost. What do you mean, your HC camera is a hard drive model? And what you wrote sounds like something important that I should understand more precisely. I am thinking that the salesguy at Best Buy was right: I should get yet another hard drive in which to store specifically and only my homemade video stuff, my iTunes, and my photographs. I don't know how I would do that, though, if I want them to be stored ALSO IN MY 2TERABYTE SEAGATE as a double archive.

  • Export settings for HD-quality video

    I'm using Quicktime Pro 7.6.4
I'm trying to create a short time-lapse video from stills from a DSLR.
What should my export settings be to create a video at HD quality?
Being a still photographer I had originally assumed that the image size was the main factor but I see the "date rate" had a lot to do with it.

Image size does matter as QuickTime can make "movies" from your image sequence files that would be too large to fit your display.
You can then scale down the "video" dimensions in the Movie properties window to fit your HD dimension of your choice.
Depending on how many images files you're bringing in with the image sequence import would also determine the "original" frame rate. Lots of large files may need at least a one frame per second during the import. You can then adjust this video "time" by adding it "scaled" to an audio file and then extracting the new video track.
300 large image files at one frame per second would be added (scaled) to ten seconds of audio to give a 30 fps rate. You may not need such a fast rate and adding it to a longer audio file may work better.
I would use the H.264 video codec. The data rate would require some experimentation. I would start at 2500 and move up in 500 increments until you find out what works best (file size versus image quality).
All of these settings also depend on your final delivery media (Web, Computer or local files).
