Making iweb pages in old MacBook accessible in new MacBook

How can I move the data from my iWeb in my old computer to the new one so that I can access it and change it?

On your old laptop...
Locate the iWeb "Domain" file in the following folder path: .../Users/username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/...
On your new laptop...
Launch iWeb once and quit. Then transfer the Domain file from the old laptop to the same folder pathway on the new laptop. You can replace the blank Domain file that is present on the new laptop with the one you are transferring over.

  • Moving Iweb files from old hard drive to new laptop

Hi, just replaced my old Powerbook with a new MacBook Pro and I have been sent my old hard drive and fit it in to an enclosure to let me have access to my old pics, music etc but I am struggling to find the iweb files for my websites
I know they were there before it went in for a screen repair and everything else looks ok so just wondered if I am looking in the wrong place
    Any help much appreciated
    Tony

The primary file you need to move is named Domain.sites (iWeb 2) or Domain.sites2 (iWeb 3). it's locted in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.  Copy that to the same folder on your new MBP.
    However:
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Once you make the libraries visible you can easily find the file you need and move it into the new library. If you have problems  opening the domain file for the first time try the following:
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Iweb/ pages won't update to add new pics+info.

Does anyone know why iweb will only update pages when it feels like it?
I have tried clearing the cache, updating one page at a time, deleting pages...
but it does't seem to work!

Remember that this would be the case regardless of what tool you used. iWeb is uploading the information just like an FTP program would upload the information to any other host. Caching is what happens when you view content and it happens to any sites. I think iWeb's ease and quickness is a testament to how many people might not even understand the processes behind creating a web site, but are nonetheless able to turn out some impressive stuff!
One thing I did to make sure I'm always getting the latest stuff is that I didn't visit my site right before publishing AND I didn't visit it until I'm sure there are no more major changes to make. This way, what gets cached will be the most recent info.
It's not really a problem for me anymore as it appears that I could make a change now, refresh my browser, and it's there. But for you, wouldn't be a bad idea to pick that up as a habit.

  • Export iweb page to photoshop

I have drawn a business card in iweb. What is the best way, to preserve resolution, to export it into photoshop. So far I have used command-shift-4 and opened in photoshop. But, I need more resolution.

Why not use the tool that's more suitable : PhotoShop
    Or a DTP-like app : iWork
Anyway, if you copy the objects from the iWeb page and paste them to a new image from the clipboard, then the image is about twice the size of what you see in iWeb : 180dpi.
The image will be one layer.
If you copy the objects one at a time, then you have mulitiple layers.
    I use PhotoShop Element.
Edit : If you print the page to pdf you'll get a 300dpi file.

  • New computer, how can I sync my old published iWeb page with new compuer?

I had my old macbook stolen a year ago in Italy. I created and published an iWeb page to .mac on that computer. My problem is that I cannot figure out how I can sync my old page on .mac to my new computer so that I can continue to use it and upload pics. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Hello,
and welcome the Apple iWeb Discussion Forum.
Basically you can't figure it out because there is no way to get published pages back into iWeb. iWeb lacks of any html import feature. The only thing you can do is rebuild it by copying and pasting content from the published one to the rebuilt in iWeb. However for photopages that isn't a good idea, it's better to rebuild them from scratch (iPhoto).
Be sure to make a backup of the domain.sites2 file (where iWeb stores) its files from time to time

  • Uploading photos to other websites , like Ebay and Making your own playing cards, is not working. It was, now it is not. I have emptied cache, updated Adobe, but I really do not want to change browsers. 3 yr old MACBook Pro. Suggestions?

The uploader that allows me to uplaod my photos from Iphoto is no longer working consistantly. WHen I have a sight that where I am supposed to " CLICK HERE TO ADD PHOTOS"   and I click, nothing happens. Sometimes after 45 seconds it might open up the IPhoto page but then the page is frozen and the cursor can't activate any thing on the page. I cannot  scroll down the photos , make a selection or close the page. Another 60 seconds may goby and then the IPhoto site will close.
I use it for Ebay and also things like uploading  photos for making photobooks and playing cards. I have done quite a bit to try and sort this out and I am at a loss. Not really very computer smart either!  Emptied cache, restarted, checked security, looked at Java....and called Ebay for help. I really do not want to add another browser, like FireFox, as I didi that before and it interferred with the MAIL account. Any suggestions?
I have a 3 year old MAcBook Pro...and of course my telephone assistance has expired.
    Thanks for any response.

  • G4 died, put HD on MacBook, can't find my original iWeb pages

My iMac G4 died a couple weeks ago, so its old HD is now on my MacBook. I had created a Web site on the G4, but now on the MacBook, I can't find it. This is for my dog training business and I need to make changes to the class schedule and fees for the April session. Can anyone please help me? Thx, Julia

David, thanks, did the search and it brought up two folders - "domain" and "Spot On K9s" (the name of my dog training business). When I clicked on either one, iWeb opened up and had blank pages as if I were starting fresh.
The domain folder was last modified March 9, the last time I updated my blog - which I did on the MacBook. The Spot On K9s folder says it was last modified this morning at 2:30am, when I attempted to download my Web page files from iDisk through my MobileMe account.
Ever since I made that blog entry on March 9, whenever I attempt to open that domain file, I get the blank iWeb pages. Can't figure out what I did wrong?
I believe my files are somewhere on here because the domain folder says it's using a lot of memory. I am so frustrated with this awkward merge of my G4 HD, external HD and MacBook HD.
Thanks again for the advice. You can be sure I will back up next time!

  • How to remove old iWeb pages off internet which are no longer in iWeb program?

This is my current looking website - www.pholife.co.uk
    which goes to - 'www.pholife.co.uk/pholife/Start.html'
when googling 'pholife tom bird' an older website under the same domain name appears in the search list before the pholife/start.html page
The old website and various pages -
    http://www.pholife.co.uk/pholife/pholife/Home.html
this website ^^^ was the same project as the professional looking one which i changed 6 months ago. If people google me, they will be led to a page which isnt the page I wish for them to see as it is ranked higher in the google search as it is older.
Some how along the line I removed the second 'pholife' from the URL so my new looking website has a different path I suppose.
How do i remove the 'www.pholife.co.uk/pholife/pholife/home.html' website all together, i have opened the package contents of iweb in application support but not sure where to start.
Lastly how do i remove the pholife/start so when people go to my website the URL is simply 'www.pholife.co.uk' in the URL bar, would it involve a homemade nav bar?
    Thanks in advance!

Connect to your server and remove the files and folders you do not want there.
In time Google will forget about them.
If that's too much, simply rename the folder of your old site and never mention it to anyone.

  • How can I use pages on my new macbook pro after having used it on my old macbook pro?

I have pages installed on my old macbook pro and I just bought the newest model pro.  I thought I was transfering all of my programs using migration assistant, but after trying to start Pages on my new computer, this window asking me to buy or try iWork '09 keeps coming up.  How can i get rid of this window and start using pages normally again?  Maybe I have to run migration assistant again...

Do you have any other Apple IDs? I would just try signing in with other ID's, and checking the "Purchased" tab in the Mac App Store to see if Pages appears.

  • Deleting old iWeb Pages

    Hi there.
I've used iWeb from more than one computer with different iWeb domain libraries in the past. Deleted all the old pages & sites I don't need via iWeb but loggin on to me.com shows a lost of old pages that are still up there. Some from even very old iWeb libraries.
Tried manually deleting these stray pages via ME interface but can't delete files that way. Any advice on how to reset and clear my iWeb pages on the ME iDisk?

From Finder press Shift/Command/I to go to your iDisk. Enter your login credentials if necessary. From your iDisk you can view your published files. Select the folders/files you'd like to delete and press delete.

  • Old .mac photo pages and new iweb pages

I have photo albums and movies previously published on a .mac homepage. I also have new photo album pages published through iweb. Are the two connected or related in any way? Do I just have to republish the old pages through iweb, or should they be linked or transferred. Is there any published information about this stuff anywhere?

Sure you can. You can provide links and redirection html pages back and forth between .Mac Homepages and iWeb pages. WillG4PB has put together a nice tutorial that I will refer you to...

  • After using migration to transfer data from my old MacBook to my new one, I can't find pages and I don't really want to pay to redownload it.

I had all the data from my old one to my new one, and now I can't find pages on my new macbook air... any suggestions?

Anything purchased from the Mac App Store will appear under "Purchased". Download it. You don't have to pay for it again.
If you purchased iWork on disc, copy it from the old MacBook.

  • Possible? Recreate my original Homepage pages into iWeb but retain old URL?

I have Tiger in the box and still have to install it.
I just bought iLife '06 today and will install it after installing Tiger.
I already have a .Mac homepage up — created with Homepage Manager.
I am thinking now that I would like to recreate that original homepage but do it with iWeb.
How do I end up with my original homepage pages all re-done into iWeb templates but retain my original .Mac homepage URL? All my friends know that URL. Could someone please explain?
    — Lorna in Southern California

Well really it's not OR but AND. If you want to do away with your old >homepage-style pages and send people to your iWeb pages via the old URL, >then you must put the redirect on the old pages.
Or you could leave the old pages up but add a link that says "Here's my new homepage..." or something like that...
Hi... I see you live in Florida — and hope you are not in any of the traditional hurricane paths!
I think that I want to start copying/recreating my Homepage pages into iWeb pages and accept that I will have a new URL someday in the near future (because I intend to do the copying as fast as I can and not stop). I can send a notice out and change a few other things. However, I have questions for that interim time when I am working on the iWeb pages but not finished with them.
While I am working on iWeb pages, I am given a new URL, right? And thus, I would at that point have two URLs with .Mac. Is that possible? As I see it, the first URL would be the one I have now, which is the address of my present .Mac Homepage Manager Homepage. And the second URL, wouldn't it be the URL of the iWeb pages? That's possible???
I understand the concept of having a redirect page from my original Homepage ultimatly to the new iWeb page, but is it an automatic redirect or one which the viewer can activate if he wants to? I would not want a redirect page to quickly, blindly switch a visitor from the old Homepage to the new iWeb pages which are incomplete.
I don't understand the mechanics of URLs. I don't know what a Redirect Page looks like or how it works and I don't see how I could be working on my new iWeb pages with its new iWeb URL, all the while leaving my present Homepage alone, viewable by visitors with ITS OWN URL.
    [several minutes passed]
And now that I have sat here and thought for several minutes, it seems that the easiest thing to do would be to have no redirect page for a while. All that I ask in that case is: Is it possible to do that? Is it possible to have my old/present Homepage viewable while I am working on my iWeb pages?
I think I just solved one of my questions all by myself. If I begin to work on iWeb I will be given a new URL — an iWeb URL. Thus technically, when I Edit and Publish in iWeb, technically, people could view those pages, but chances are they will not if I don't announce the new iWeb URL to them. OK. I see......
I am asking all of this now because I am the type that needs to envision and understand a project from start to finish before I start. I do not like surprises — and cyber surprises have the ability to unsettle me.
Could someone please realign my erratic thoughts? Are my goals possible? Can I have my present .Mac Homepage Manager Homepage viewable and visitable while working away on copying them to my new iWeb site? (I bought iLife '06 yesterday and will install it and Tiger today. Tiger first and iWeb'06 second, as instructed.)
