Making stuck Bluetooth dialog go away

So I was trying to connect my new smartphone to bluetooth on my 2011 MacBook Pro...various weirdness happened and I managed to get to the screen that says, "To pair with the device, make sure the number below matches the number on that device." At that point, I decided to shelve the whole business because my phone was reacting oddly to the task, so I closed bluetooth on the phone and forgot about it.
A couple hours later, I noticed that I'd left that dialog open, and, stupidly, I clicked "Yes" thinking it would just attempt to complete the pairing, realize the phone was no longer there, and take the dialog box away. However, it just started chewing with the spinny wheel and has now been doing so for quite some time. I don't think it's going to go away.
The dialog isn't connected to any particular application, so I can't close it, and am trying to figure out which activity it might be associated with in the Activity Monitor to cancel it that way. The first thing I've found that seems relevant is a process called "BluetoothUIServer." Is this the right process, or at any rate, am I safe in quitting it? Messing around in Activity Monitor always makes me leery cos I know there's a few select things you can cancel that will crash/damage the computer.
Thanks very much for any help.

Reset your phone by holding the on/off and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.

    I installed Firefox 6.0.2 on a Windows Server 2003 box. This box is a terminal server with 9 users that are going to use Firefox. The other users are going to use IE. When asked to reboot now or later, I chose Later. After sometime I rebooted, the message "you need to reboot in order to complete the install" reappears. Over and over again. Can not uninstall (same message) Can not open Firefox (same message) Many reboots using various users, the same results.

    The question appears to relate more to the OS than be a firefox problem, but as I have never used Windows Server 2003, I am unable to help.

  • Stuck bluetooth

    Hi fellas, I have an old nokia 6600, I tried connecting it to my laptop using bluetooth, the bluetooth gui (blueman) had frozen and I am unable to start it ever since. The problem occured when trying to pair the nokia. I am using this bluetooth device quite often, so it really bugs me. I even tried uninstalling bluenam and installing bluez-gnome instead. Didn't help. I suppose I have to manually remove the 6600's mac address from the config file. I would be really thankful for your answers.
    EDIT: I've got this little fella http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11866 and except this it works perfectly and I can only recommend it to everyone, this issue seems to be software though.

    Hi,
    You're contact information is stored in iTunes so if you do a restore, restore from a backup. You won't lose your contacts doing that.
    Even if you restore the iPhone as new, all you have to do is re sync your contacts.
    Help here.

  • Bluetooth  Keyboard runnnnns away with itself

    Siiiinnnce [sic] installing 10.6 my Apple Bluetooth Keyboard has been behaaaaaaaving most oddly. As I type it sometimes starts repeating letttttttttttttters over and over, can last up to a minute with a string of nnnnn's, etc., before I get control of the keyboard back.
    Deleting the letters can also be troublesome, as,when I delete backwards it often just starts spewing a new stringggggg of repeated letters.
    Any idea as to how I can fix this? I've replaced the batteries (even though those I was using were at 75%) but the problem persissssssts.
    My wired keyboard works fine. I use the wireless keyboard a maximum of 2.5meters from the MacPro. Distance does not seem to affect behaviour.

    Hi,
    same problem for me, but I don't know if it's since 10.6 install or Bluetooth Firmware Update 2.0.1. (repeating letters over and over, deleting over and over, ...)
    Some help please,
    Thx

  • Making status bar "done" go away in Firefox 4

    The new status bar has a "Done" message that sometimes will not go away. This is particularly problematic on Netflix, where "Done" persists, and is irritatingly obvious on the black background. Mousing over it simply makes it switch to the other side of the screen. I can't find any settings related to this - any ideas? I know there's an add-on to go back to the old status bar, which I might resort to, but surely is this solvable in Firefox 4.
    I also can't figure out why the "Done" label is sometimes there and sometimes not, and sometimes appears when I haven't loaded a new page.

    The easiest way is to use the Status-4-Evar add-on. With it you can choose to not display any of the status messages, or display them in the add-ons bar or location bar instead. To just hide the Done message uncheck the setting to "Show default status"

  • Making missing fonts dialog copy/pastable

    When I open an .ai file and am missing the fonts, the dialog that pops up showing the missing fonts doesn't allow me to copy and paste the information from that dialog. This would be incredibly useful for designers/developers in communicating to eachother the assets needed.

  • Dialog Boxes stuck on full screen mode in ID4

    I run InDesign CS4 on a 15-inch HP Elitebook 8560 connected to two 20-inch monitors running at 1600 X 900 DPI.
    Usually, InDesign occupies the left of the two monitors.
    Occasionally I telework at home on a  single 27-inch monitor.
    The computer has no trouble distinguishing between the two setups.
    When I do a "Save As" in InDesign CS4, the file name and location dialog box now takes up the full screen of  20-inch monitor.
    I try dragging the lower right hand corner with my mouse, but nothing works to make that screen any smaller.  Even if I move the mouse to the upper right or upper edge of the screen and click-drag, it stays at full screen.
    If I undock the laptop and use its screen, even at a higher resolution, I still cannot drag the corners of the dialog box away from the edges of the screen.
    Are there any preferences or keyboard shortcuts I could use to solve this?

    To force quit an application, choose Force Quit from the Apple menu (or press Command-Option-Esc), then choose the unresponsive application in the Force Quit window, and click Force Quit.
    Optionally, you may be able to Option-right click the application's icon in the Dock and choose Force Quit from the contextual menu.
    If this is not an option, hold down the power button (5-10 seconds) until the mac shuts off and then restart.

  • 30EA2 Connection is Busy Dialog Does not Go Away on Abort

    I am building index on large table in a SQL Worksheet. I tried to look at table statistics and Dialog "Connection is Busy" came up. Hitting Abort does not Abort.
    I guess it may go away after index is built

    I'm getting that connection busy dialog a lot on EA3. It works fine , just annoying to keep clicking the dialog bix away. We have a lot of firewalls and our network connection setup may be a bit slow. Is there a config change to allow a longer timeout on the connections? I coudl try that.

  • Bluetooth dialogue box comes up upon booting computer

    Hello,
    Upon booting my computer, G5 Quad core 2.5 with Tiger, I get this bluetooth dialog box saying that it is searching for a bluetooth mouse. I can't click on anything. I do know that if I could click on something that I would go into preferences and deselect bluetooth devices, right? How do I get around this without contantly turning off the computer and rebooting?
    Thanks,
    Jordan

    Jo Jordan,
    The PowerMac doesn't see your USB mouse, so it's looking for a bluetooth one. Do you have a regular mouse plugged in? If so, where?
    Is this a problem that goes away with a restart, or are you stuck at this screen everytime?
    1) Check the mouse, mouse cable and reconnect the mouse. Any better?
    2) Plug the mouse into a different port
    3) Plug both mouse and keyboard into rear ports on the PowerMac. Occasionally a front-panel board will fail.
    4) Reset the system management unit, which controls perhipeheral ports, power, and fans: see "How to reset the SMU on a Power Mac G5" at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300341
    Good luck!

  • Activating onscreen keyboard while connected to bluetooth keyboard

    Hi,
    I have the Apple bluetooth keyboard connected to my iPad 2 and I was wondering if there was way to activate the onscreen keyboard other then pressing the eject key on the top right of the bluetooth keyboard. Its not a concern when I'm close to the keyboard but when I'm further away and want to type something quick without the bluetooth keyboard it can become a hassle. I don't want to disconnect the keyboard and reconnected it either. Any input would be appreciated.

    I have found another post that talk similar topic.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12847503#12847503
    Looks like the only solution are to either physically turn on/off (the keyboard) or press the eject button on physical keyboard. But when I am at the password screen, swiping up from bottom will not bring up the Control Center to allow me to turn off the bluetooth onscreen. Again I need to open the physical keyboard.
    Probably an easier solution is to simply remember to turn off bluetooth before putting away the devices.

  • How to make the length of Message Dialog follows the length of text

    Hi all.
    I am making a Message Dialog From JOptionPane because i do not want to use some static methods of JOptionPane (JOptionPane.Show ...)
    My source codes following :
    public static void showMessageDialog(String message) {
              JOptionPane optionPane = new JOptionPane();
              JDialog dialog = optionPane.createDialog(null, "Message");
              optionPane.setMessage(message);
              optionPane.setMessageType(JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
              JButton btnOk = new JButton("OK");
              optionPane.setOptions(new Object[] { btnOk });
              dialog.setVisible(true);
    }It runs well but having a problem. When message is a long text --> JDialog can not show all text, dialog's length does not resize automatically following message's length.
    Have a the way to make it ? How to solve ?
    Thanks in advance !

    Add a dialog.pack() call. See SSCCE below.
    i do not want to use some static methods of JOptionPane (JOptionPane.Show ...)Why? In this case the built-in static method handles the size as expected.
    public class TestJOptionPaneSizeAdaptsToMessageLength {
       public static void main(String... args) {
           String message = "This is a very long message, I say long but really it is a very very long one, and when I say long I do mean it!!! ";
           message += message;
           message += message;
           message += message;
           showMessageDialog(message);
    //       showMessageDialogUsingStaticJOptionPaneMethod(message);
       public static void showMessageDialog(String message) {
            JOptionPane optionPane = new JOptionPane();
            JDialog dialog = optionPane.createDialog(null, "Message");
            optionPane.setMessage(message);
            optionPane.setMessageType(JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
            JButton btnOk = new JButton("OK");
            optionPane.setOptions(new Object[] { btnOk });
            dialog.pack();
            dialog.setVisible(true);
       public static void showMessageDialogUsingStaticJOptionPaneMethod(String message) {
            JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, message);
    }Edited by: jduprez on Feb 1, 2010 11:39 AM
    I have to admit, I am a zealous fan of the built-in JOptionPane.showXxx methods :o)

  • Obvious problem with ios 8.02 and Bluetooth

    So....just like every one else out there my and my wife's new iphone 6 with IOS 8.02 will not connect properly to either of our cars - Chevy volt and Mini Countryman. Yes I deleted phone, reset, re-paired and reset the phones numerous times. This is unsafe and unacceptable. Apple needs to fix this problem. In California it is illegal to talk on the phone without hands free Bluetooth. I find it unbelievable that they did not find this out and fix this prior to the release of the software update. Please update to fix so everyone can once again use their cars Bluetooth safely or do we now have to buy apple cars to make it work?

    Um....iOS 8.1 came out Monday and it specifically says the update addresses issues with Bluetooth connectivity.  And lot's of people have already reported their Bluetooth headaches went away with iOS 8.1.  Have you updated to 8.1?

  • How do I get rid of the 'local storage' dialog once I deny it?

    Whenever I try to view a video with IE11, an Adobe Flash Player Settings dialog opens up, covering the center of the video, saying:
    Local Storage
    www.whatever.com is requesting permission to store information on your computer.
    Requested: up to 10 KB
    Currently used: 0 KB
    Allow or Deny
    If I Deny, the unwanted, permanently annoying dialog remains, obscuring the center of the video and ruining the user experience, even though many videos still continue to run perfectly fine behind it.
    My expectation is that once the question has been asked and answered, this ridiculous dialog needs to disappear!
    I've intentionally set my Flash Player control panel to ask me whenever a site wants to store info on my HD, so I can avoid local storage whenever possible, yet occasionally be able to decide, depending on circumstances, to allow local storage to cure occasional jerky streaming video problems.  The only other choices are to prevent all sites from storing, or allow all sites to store.
    Is there a setting that will make this dialog go away once I've answered the question?

    I suspect you are running into a "clickjacking" issue, specific to your system's dpi, video driver, or some related component.  Please see this post for details:

  • Need recommendation for Bluetooth unlock

    I have a Droid Razr HD and I use an automatic screen lock that activates within a few minutes of nonuse. It's a pin screen. It works fine, but is a pain when I am in the car and wanting to make a bluetooth call. I have to physically unlock the screen first before making a bluetooth call, otherwise the call can't be placed.
    I have heard that there are apps that will recognize an attempt to place a bluetooth call and will automatically unlock the screen so that the call can be placed. Does anyone know of such apps?

  • Resizing an open Dialog as it's content's change

    Using the sharepoint dialog framework,  Is it possible to resize a dialog that is open when it's content changes?
    The issue we currently have, is we have many layout pages we designed to open in a dialog that use our Custom Master Page.  When sharepoint open's them in a dialog and their content changes (like when a validation summary adds some error messages when
    you click OK on the dialog without entering in the required information) the dialog grows in height but the window stays the same size.
    Ideally, I don't want to open the dialogs maximized, or to a fixed size.  I want to use autoSize but I want to resize the dialog window when the content's change.  I've googled this many times and haven't found anything that works.  It would
    be nice if there was method like "window.frameElement.autoSize()" I could call to resize the dialog.
    I did notice the OOTB Dialog.Master page has a ton of javascript on it, and a method called onResize, not sure what that is for.  Should we be using dialog.master as the master page for our dialog pages instead of
    using our site master page?
    My Blog: http://www.thesug.org/Blogs/ryan_mann1/default.aspx Website: Under Construction

    I ended up making a custom dialog page from a copy of dialog.master.  I gutted out about 90 percent of it, then created one table with a centered 100% width/height layout.
    The end result is the Main Content placeholder center's it's contents on the dialog window.  And because there is always white space around the actual dialog content, simply made everything inherit the same background color with css.  On top of
    that I change all of our dialog calls to send a width and height.  I calculated the max height/width needed for each of the dialogs, then changed the call to that dialog to use that width and height.
    Not the ideal solution, but it works ok, and doesn't look to bad.
    I did reverse engineer the dialog page a bit, and the dialog.master and I came up with all the div's and iframes I would need to resize and reposition, but it's some pretty complex logic, so I put it off for now.
