MAMP yields gobbledegook

MAMP is returning strange "Bad handshake errors" on a MacBook Air, while it works perfectly on an identical computer on the same home network. I just installed it and the homepage works fine at the default address:

However when I create foo.php in the test directory and load it with this URL:
http://localhost:8889/MAMP/test/foo.php
I get weird behavior, for either port 8888 or 8889. Here is the output:

Flex 4 Trial - MAMP Channel Disconnected - help!

I am doing some simple testing with the Flash Builder 4 Trial
I am running MAMP on my mac and am trying to use PHP to to talk to the mySQL database.
In Flex 3 this was pretty easy. I am following basically the same procedures (they have change)
I am simply using the Bind to data... and going throught the wizard. Everything seems find
when I bind it to a datagrid - the grid sizes to accomodate all of the fields and puts the correct names in the header.
But, when I run the application I get the error "Channel disconnected Channel Disconnected before an acknowledement was received"
I can't find any way around this or much information on the error.
Would appreciate any help.

The first thing you need to do is ensure you have a recent version of mamp, as the zendframework requires the latest stable build of php, it will also help to download the latest zendAMF and replace the one that Flashbuilder installed (you just over write the folder with the new code)

Some people have had issues on macs where the zend pathing wasn't working /recognised, there is info on this spread through http://forums.adobe.com/community/flex/flex4beta , searching on 'zend' in the forum will yield several thoughts if you have problems after trying the above.

How can I use Airport Express to create a standalone Wi-Fi network without Internet Access so I can browse web pages on the local network? I will be using MAMP as my server (Apache)

I would like to create my own Wi-Fi standalone network at an upcoming tradeshow where there will be NO internet access.
Currently, I run and develop sites on my iMac use MAMP to manage my sites locally. Using MAMP, I run my sites as though they are on the internet although everything is local.
I purchased an Airport Express hoping I could create a standalone network so that the iMac would broadcast its website to whatever device connects to it such as my iPhone, iPad and MacBookPro.
However, after setting up the network successfully (I have a green light on the Airport Express, and there is NO internet going through it), I am not able to go any further by logging into the iMac's websites from the other machines. Form my MacBookPro Finder, I can look at files and folders using afp://10.0.1.2, from the Find/Go/Connect to Server utility, but I can't browse the website that is running on the iMac via the Safari browser.
Can anyone help me configure my MacBookPro (or iPad, or iPhone) to run the website on the iMac when they are all on the same network?

Does someone already create a new Wi-Fi network using its TC connected by Ethernet on a modem/router device ? How do you set up the DHCP (and NAT) ? Which range did you use ?
This is easy enough to do..
Plug the TC directly into a computer.. without other connections to do the setup.
Using the newly installed 5.6 utility.
Bridge the TC.
Create a wireless network.
This is an older screen shot and I would set security to WPA2 Personal only not WPA/WPA2 Personal as shown above.
I do recommend you use wireless names that are short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
Update the TC..
Now plug it into the modem router.. it will be a part of the network without doing NAT and DHCP itself.. which you do not want.. that leads to double NAT issues.. but it is a WAP that provides access to devices on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands directly to the main router.

When I click on a photo I see a yield sign with an exclamation point in it.

When I'm in an event I can see all my photos for that event, but when I open one of the photos I get an exclamation point in a yield sign shaped ICON. Is the photo damaged ? How do I repair this condition and how do I avoid it next time. Not all my photos have this problem, but the ones that do look like they are from the same import set. I know at one time they were OK.

what is your iPhoto version?
The exclamation point shows that iPhoto has lost the connection between the thumbnails of your photos and the edited versions or original image files. You need to rebuild the iPhoto library and to reconnect the versions to the original image files. Try first, if the built-in first aid tools will help (launch iPhoto with the key combination ⌥⌘ held down to bring up the first-aid panel and try to rebuild the database.

Since updating to FF 5.0, I can no longer access my MAMP server (Mac/Apache/MySQL/PHP) Wordpress development site on my Localhost computer (MacBook Pro, OSX 10.6.4). Why not? It's running EXTREMELY SLOWLY when I try to access the pages on my site.

In short, it seems that something is stopping Firefox from accessing the MySQL database properly so that my site can show up as quickly as it did before.
Since this mess only happened after I upgraded to Firefox 5.0 and added the plugins, and nothing else has changed on my computer, it seems the Firefox 5.0 app and/or an extension is the culprit.
Can you advise me ASAP about what to do? If not, I'll have to downgrade to 4.0 or something. I've got deadlines to meet.

HELP! Lost ALL my bookmarks & Bookmark Toolbar is empty. Attempts to restore from the backup files yields an error message that says, "Unable to process the backup file." Have tried opening nearly all 10 existing backups w/same result.

I was in the midst of a Firefox session w/two windows open. Nothing special about the sites. No fancy javascripts or anything. When I closed the second window and opened the "History, Show all History" pull-down, the Library screen had no data in it.
I looked for the Bookmarks.html file in my profile and it is missing. I tried renaming an old .bak file from a couple years ago and I can open it as a file and see the text of it displayed but Firefox will not recognize it as and open it as the Backups file.
Following the directions already posted - using "History, Show all History" then the "Import and Backup, Restore" process - allows Firefox to see all the backups, but trying to restore from any of them yields the "Unable to process the backup file" error message.
I have re-started my machine from a cold start - twice now.

All was well until 10.7 + MAMP + xCode. Now...misery. Why?

I'm a port from the PC universe. Been loving my iMac since 10.6 for about 2 years now. Recently, I decided to stop programming on the PC and move to the Mac and open source, namely PHP to start. That mean installing MAMP. No harm. Then, I entered the world of debuggin PHP without a debugger. Not fun. So, I joined the installed xDebug. Whoa! Problems all over. Issues Galore. Addressed the issues, joined the $99 developer community, downloaded xCode (for the compiler), upgraded to 10.7 Lion and fixed all sorts of stuff: paths, ini files, got pear working, php-config, phpize, xdebug.so extension.
Now that xdebug works, I downloaded JetBrains PHPStorm for my debugger along with Dreamweaver CS4 that I've owned all along. All should be well and good, but not so.
1. All of my Adobe CS products went to ****. I had to re-install and lost 2 yrs worth of customizations, plug-ins etc. That was Adobe's best suggestion.
2. My external disk drives locked up, there were now permission issues on all, but my internal drive, so I couldn't get to my Time Machine backups. In any case, I had changed so much I'm not sure it would have helped.
3. Reformatted all external drives. Lost all, but nothing there was that precious. One drive is a scratch disk, the other was my backups. I immediately made another TM backup. All went well after re-format.
4. Download OS X.7.3....Whoa, more issues. Mainly permissions. Adobe went to **** again, but I'd already lost everything that mattered, so I trudged through the permissions thing (Library and System seemed to be the primary offenders here). User System now exists everywhere and user "Me" is gone, as is user "Administrators" group. Tried getting rid of user system. Bad, bad idea. Started over, then just tried to add Me and Administrators group. Worked out.
5. Reinstalled Adobe a 2nd time.
6. Now, some of my drivers, namely HP Scanjet aren't working, download, reinstall, fix that.
7. Reinstalling HP drivers mucked up permissions again and I get all these Library permission issues on bootup. Fixed that for the 3rd or 4th time now.
There's more, but you get the idea. All I wanted to do in the beginning was use PHP 5.3 and be able to debug it. Now I have a "hard way" degree in debugging, Unix, and the mac OS. And, I still don't know what I've done wrong.
This permissions issue keeps cropping up. I've done the Verify/Repair Permissions thing a few times, same for the hard drive. doesn't seem to have an noticible effect.
Is there some sort of utility out there (or already here) that will help me get my machine stable once again. I've logged probably 40 hours doing the above and this is darn near reminding me of my life with a PC--but I had 30 years of driving that crate, so it wasn't as frustrating.
It's all about permissions and my user being installed, or not, in various locations that I'm guessing it used to be installed in. Plus, it seems RW permissions have changed to R. I've used Terminal to fix some of this along the way, and get all working correctly, but I'm scared now to turn off the darn machine, or to upgrade "anything" on it.
Advice is welcome.

It sounds like you're randomly setting file permissions without any idea of what they should be. In nearly all cases, they should be whatever the software installer makes them. On very rare occasions, it may be necessary to repair the permissions of system files after running a defective third-party installer. It's certainly necessary if you've "mucked up" those permissions yourself. You may have mucked them up so badly that they can no longer be repaired in the usual way. In that case, boot from your recovery partition (command-R at startup) and run Disk Utility. That, at least, is safe from being mucked up, but it won't fix everything; only Mac OS system files.
If a third-party product doesn't work, reinstall it, and resist the temptation to change the permissions. If it still doesn't work, contact the developer for support.
Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Back up all data now. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to its present state
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

How can I architect my data layer to yield query result pages to the application as SQL Server prepares them?

I tried to make the question as explicit as possible.
Refer to Sql Server Management Studio's Results view. Depending upon the structure of the execution plan, the Results pane may begin displaying results while the query is still executing. Can someone point me in a direction for architecting a
data layer (I am tech and framework agnostic for this task. Any solution will suffice) that will begin receiving pages of the set before SQL Server has completed the entire query?
The call from the data layer to SQL Server will obviously have to be asynchronous, but is there any additional ceremony that I need to be aware of when issuing OPTION (FAST x) to the query optimizer?

I would imagine you cannot ORDER BY and yield results as they are fetched because of the execution plan that would be generated. For the purposes of this post, please assume that sorting will be done purely client side

and also assume that you have "lots" of columns to display.
This was an exploratory question to see what would be necessary to replicate the behavior of Management Studio's Query Result view in a custom application.
I would imagine that there's going to be a lot of analysis of the execution plans that get generated in order for the OPTION (FAST x) optimizer hint to do any good, but apart from general tuning concerns that would allow SQL SERVER to yield a page of data

Let me give the history - I started with an Apple Express being fed thru a D-Link EBTR 2310 cable Router from an RCA DCM315 Modem (Pure). Comcast service all the way.
Got the 1st generation TC in 2008 and merely replaced the Airport Express with the TC. Worked ok
A year or two ago I did try removing the modem and feeding the TC directly from the modem. Resulted in the same condition I have now - Continuous flashing amber on the TC. So I put the router back in the chain.
Some time later, at the recommendation of a Comcast rep, I replaced the router with (a Belkin F5D 5231) to see if speed and dropout problems would be improved. I thought it helped some at the time but now I am not so sure.
Last week I decided to see if a new modem would help with download speeds. So I got another pure cable modem (Motorola SB 6121- high on the Comcast recommended list).
Got up and running easily with Comcast help and with the modem connected directly to a computer.
Next I put the TC in the link and again could not get past the TC continuing to flash amber. Although I did get connected to the internet with this configuration I lost connection two both of my printers - one connected by USB and the other wirelessly to the TC. Again everything works fine when I put the Belkin router back in the system.
However with the router in there, the modem shows the downstream connection to be 10/100 ethernet speed. (Modem light changes color for indicating speeds.}
I have gone thru all of the combinations of powering down/ up, but all stays the same.
I can live with what I have but something still doesn’t seem right.

Thanks Visruth. I managed to get the Windows 8.1 up and running without the the recovery partition.
On another topic, on the previous Windows 8.1 system. (before I deleted and reinstalled it, I downloaded recovery to a usb flash drive. THe RECOVERYflash drive contains 3 foldes named boot, efi and sources and also two files in the root diectory of the RECOVERYusb flash drive named bootmgr and bootmgr.efi. How would I use these files and folders, (for future reference)?

I'm trying to set up MAMP and don't know whether to choose port 8888 for MAMP-Apache or port 80 for the OSX-Apache. I had read that you can't use port 80 if file sharing is turned on because you can't have two versions of Apache running at the same time.

Mac OS X's built-in File Sharing uses port 548(AFP) and doesn't have anything to do with Apache.

The following code starts a thread that awaits a notification that never comes. However, I was expecting the Foo main thread to enter the running state again sometime after it yields and print the last line "main running again", but not so. The program hangs and never execute main's last print statement.

}My understanding of yield() is that it offers to demote the current thread to the runnable state in order to allow other threads - in this case Task - to enter the running state. But once Task calls wait(), it also retreats from the running state and this is where I expect the main thread to become running again.
If I swap yield() with something like
        try {
            Thread.sleep(500);
        } catch (InterruptedException ie) {
            System.out.println("Foo's sleep interrupted");
        }then it main does actually return to a running state and executes the last statement.

I see.Do also note that yield seldom is used these days. You most likely have a bug in your implementation or design if you think you need to call yield, or you are executing on a really old VM or on an odd system.
(The first versions of the Solaris VM didn't use round robin so you had to release the execution to avoid starvation.)
