Manage max table storage space in case of excess data (size in GB)

My scenario is that I am using sql server 2008 r2 on my end. I have created a database named testDB. I have a lot of tables with some log tables in this. some tables have contain lack of records in log table.
So my purpose is that I want to fix the table size of those tables(log tables) and want to move records in other database table placed on another location. So my database has no problem.
Please tell me, is there any way to make such above steps which I want for my database?
Is there already built any such functionality in sql server?
May be this question repeated but still I have no solution for my issue.

well, there is no such direct option to restrict the table size.. one way, you can do it. putt that table on separate filegroup and files and restrict the growth on the file. BUT, this will not give the accurate limitaion on the rows you want and, it not
a good practice to do that- infact you should never do this option. and if you have more tables, each one would require it's own filegroup/files - this is a bad idea.
the more common solution is to archive the information into another table in a different database.
a simple script such as this would work. this will move all the log data older than 30 days to archive database
use ArchiveDatabase
GO
insert into archivetable
select * from testdb..Oldtablelog where logdate <(dateadd(day,-30,getdate())
is there any particular reason you want to archive the data.. if this for database managability- for backups/maintanence - you can partition and mark the old filegroups as readonly and new data as read-write.
Hope it Helps!!

  • Reducing table storage space in oracle 8i

    Hi,
I am trying to reduce the space usage of the historical tables I have.
These tables contains Data of the previous months. The only table(snapshot) we can retrive the historical data from.
Is there any table compression technique or script that can help me? I can't afford to reduce the PCTFREE parameter.
    Waiting for your valuable suggestions
    Regards
    Rajib

    Hi Rajib,
Dropping unused extents will definelty help you reduce the space occupied. But before that you need to know how many extents are totally blank. if more percent of extents are completely blank then this option will help you to a certain extent.
You can make use of dbms_rowid package and dba_extents and find out no of blocks/extents partially or completely free.
Or else , rebuilding a table is a best option , but again depends on the size of the table. If bigger the table, time taken to rebuild ill be more. If you can afford this time, then well and fine.

  • ICloud storage space used up by old data from 1st gen iPad I traded in nearly 2 yrs ago for an iPad Mini. Can't backup any info for mini or new 6 plus. How can I access this old data to clear it out?

My iCoud storage space is being used up by old data from a 1st  generation iPad I traded in nearly 2 yrs ago for an iPad Mini. The people at the sprint store where I made my trade were supposed to transfer everything over from my old iPad to the new Mini once they backed up the old device to iCloud. Well, long story short, none of the data ever got transferred to the new iPad, but it all got backed to iCloud, eating up all my storage space. Here I am almost 2 years later, and I've never been able to back-up my iPad mini. What's worse, My iPhone 4 wasn't backed up that whole time, and now I can't back-up my data from my new iPhone 6 Plus to iCloud either. Trying to find creative ways to store and save my information and data between all my devices is getting to be ridiculous. I don't want to upgrade my storage space though...just want to clear out a great deal of what is already being stored. How can I access this old data to clear it out?

The only way to access data from an iCloud backup is to restore it to your device.  You could, for example, back up your iPad mini to your computer using iTunes (by connecting it, opening iTunes, then going to File>Devices>Back Up and choosing to back up apps and transfer purchases when prompted), then erase it and restore the old iPad backup (as explained here: iCloud: Restore or set up your iOS device from iCloud), save any recovered data you want to keep, then restore your iTunes backup back to your iPad mini (by connecting it to your computer, opening iTunes, then going to File>Devices>Restore from Backup).
Once you're done with the old backup, delete it from your account to free up the space.

  • IBook G4 & Managing iTunes library (Storage space)

My G4 has a 30 GB hard drive and I never dreamed I would run out of space, but that was before iTunes.
Can I upgrade to a larger hard drive without going to external devices? If so, how do I find these? When I did a search in the Apple store only externals came up.
My iTunes library is the thing hogging all the room. Can I move it to my iDisk? Will it work the same if I do? Is there another way to store my iTunes library?
Since this is a laptop I don't want another device to carry around with me.
Any advice would be greatly appriciated.
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   I'm as good on Windows as I am on a Mac, but Windows is not as good as a Mac

    Cindy,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You can bring your iBook to an Apple Reseller (Most popular CompUSA), where they can put one in for you. I am pretty sure they will put one in for you, but I am not too sure about Apple. Either way it is going to be pretty expensive. I know you don't want a external hard drive that much, but I just thought for informational purposes I should give you my view.
The reasons why an external hard drive is a great choice:
Lets say a 40 or 60Gb hard drive costs $120. Then you are going to have to pay for labor, which is going to be probably around $100 an hour. That is a lot of money, especially when they are very slow. If you were to buy a external hard drive, you can get a more spacious hard drive for less. For an example, you can get the SmartDisk FireLite Portable Hard Drive that has 100Gb for only $229. It's pretty small, only 3 1/4" x 5".
I bought a 160Gb SmartDisk CrossFire for $165 and I use it only to put my photos from iPhoto on them. My computer runs faster, smoother, and I have more room for other things. I have thousands of photos (over 4000) that take up a ton of room, but with the external I didn't have to pay a lot of money (you can do the same with iTunes).
You can put your version of OS X on the hard drive so that you don't have to carry around the Install/Repair discs incase of a problem. This only works with FireWire drives (and I believe some rare USB 2.0).
Just to keep it semi short, you can back up all your files on to it. I recommend people back up their files just incase something happens. I know a kid who had bought 1,000 songs from iTunes (I think) and had his 10 page paper on his iBook G3, and then someone kicked a soccer ball right into it. Random things happen all the time, its better to be safe then sorry.

  • Storage Spaces on WS2012R2 Server Essentials drive space error

So, I finally bit the bullet and retired my V1 Home Server in favor of building out a Windows Server 2012R2 Server Essentials box as a replacement. All seemed to go well with the install and so I built out a Storage Space (16 TB) using an external 8-bay
enclosure with about 14 TB of drives in it. The Space built out fine and I then moved my Server Folders to it which also went well.
At that point, I attached my 4 TB external drive that had my movie backups on it and started copying them over. After about a day and a half it is done, or so I thought. It copied over about 3.2 TB of data and now when I try to copy basically anything onto
the Storage Space, I get the following error message:
There is not enough space on <folder name>
xx.x GB is needed to copy this item. Delete or move files so you have enough space.
<folder name> is whatever the target folder name is and xx.x is whatever size the file or files add up to.
This then just has an option to Try Again, Skip or Cancel. Problem is, the drive only has a few TB of data on it and still shows mostly empty, yet I can't copy hardly anything to it. It seems to allow me to copy smaller files individually, but any larger
group of files, or a folder with larger files in it yield the error above.
    Anybody have any ideas?

    Hi,
What is the resiliency type of the virtual disk in the Storage Spaces? How much the free space of the virtual disk? The issue may because the free space of the virtual disk is less than 4 TB.
You could refer to the articles below to know more about the virtual disk size of different resiliency types:

  • How to delete backup data in icloud to free up storage space?

My iphone 4s has not been backed up in 3 weeks because it says "there is not enough iCloud storage available". Through viewing the data sizes currently backed up in iCloud, the Camera Roll is taking up 99% of the space. I deleted almost everything from the camera roll and photo stream on the actual iphone device, but what do I need to do in order for the storage space to be freed? Is there another place I need to check to delete data (i.e. photos) and regain the storage space available and resume successful backups?
    Many thanks,
    SM

So by selecting "Delete Backup" it will delete everything backed up to iCloud from other apps as well, correct? Is there anywhere I can go to view the actual data being backed up and specifically delete certain data? Without knowing exactly what has been backed up, I'm hesitant to delete everything.

  • Azure table storage design for simple social networking

What is the best table design if I want to use Azure Table Service for a simple social networking website?
The website could have millions of users.
Users need to be able to view a list of all other users in the system sorted by the number of mutual connections.
Users must be able to view a list of their connections
User must be able to view content posted by themselves and their connections.
One major design constraint is that Azure table service queries are generally limited to the partition key and row key when there are a large number of records or else they get really slow. Another constraint is that query results are only sorted by the
partition key and then the row key.

For your scenario, I think making use of the SQL Azure makes more senses than usage of azure table storage service offering, nature of the data looks more relational in this particular context which is not recommended for table storage model design.
You can get started with SQL Azure at -

Yes Rajat . Your are right
I have pasted the code below. I am using "String" to hold the message (strQueueMessage). That should be the problem
Pls let me know How should I overcome this problem.

  • Short dump - No more storage space available for extending an internal tabl

    Hi All,
I have requirement in which my program generates a text file on my presentation server. • No roll storage space of length 2352 available for OCCURS area : Error in SAP Service Manager 4.0

    Hi All,
I am facing one issue while downloading Service Orders in SAP Service Manager 4.0 with SMP 2.3 SP03
I am working in the development environment where I have 15 - 20 Service Orders. When I am transmitting the client it downloads the rest of the configurations properly like complex tables, data tables, rules, screens etc but as soon as it hits /SMCRM/BTX_DOSERVICEORD_GET it does not downloads anything. I get a session time out error and then the ATE gets crashed.
I checked in the logs where I found -
throwExceptionToClient::com.syclo.sap.component.serviceorder.steplet.ServiceOrderFetchSteplet::throwExceptionToClient::285::ServiceOrderFetchSteplet - No roll storage space of length 2352 available for OCCURS area.
2014/05/13 14:04:12.082:  ServiceOrderFetchSteplet: doSteplet returned false; no data to process
As I said its in the development environment it has hardly 15 - 20 Service Orders but when checked with the basis team it is consuming all the 65GB RAM and hence could not proceed further.
Please let me know what could be the possible error and how can I fix this.
    Please advise.

    Neha,
Only 15-20 service orders, but how much data on those orders?  SM 4.0 brings down potentially a lot of data per service order, including:
    Addresses,
    Business Partners,
    Categorizations,
Confirmations (and all the data under those),
History Records (There can be a lot of those),
    Items,
Reference Objects (This could be a huge installed base).
You may need to debug the java and adjust what data is pulled down and/or examine the Service Orders to see where the bottle-neck is.  You should also increase the timeouts in your Agentry.ini file.  Those settings are in seconds.

  • HT4910 I have 2 lines and on 1 of the main phone I went to settings then storage & backup automatically it showed how much space i have which was not allot and it also showed the other line storage space. I click on manage storage and it used to show both

I was told that I have 14.9 gb of space on my phone when my total is 15gb. I was adviced to free storage and to click on settings and manage my storage by either purchase more or turning off or deleting some of the back ups. When I went in to settings then to icloud it usually would of showed me both phone storage memory and when I started going down my list and turning off some of the apps from back ups of certain app all of a sudden I couldnt no longer see my phone storage memory or my account name for that matter. Now I only see the other line username and storage space that the other phone has.
What can I do? I used to see the list of all the apps I have on icloud and now its empty and it tells me I have available 13.4 gb available.
    Please advice. Thank you
    Patricia

I cannot find this 300GB "Backup" in the Finder, only in the Storage info when I check "About This Mac".
You are probably using Time Machine to backup your MacBook Pro, right? Then the additional 300 GB could be local Time Machine snapshots.  Time Machine will write the hourly backups to the free space on your hard disk, if the backup drive is temporarily not connected. You do not see these local backups in the Finder, and MacOS will delete them, when you make a regular backup to Time Machine, or when you need the space for other data.
See Pondini's page for more explanation:   What are Local Snapshots?   http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
I have restarted my computer, but the information remains the same. How do I reclaim the use of the 300GB? Why is it showing up as "Backups" when it used to indicate "Photos"? Are my photos safe on the external drive?
You have tested the library on the external drive, and so your photos are save there.
The local TimeMachine snapshot probably now contains a backup of the moved library.  Try, if connecting your Time Machine drive will reduce the size of your local Time Machine snapshots.

    Hello.
Probably you fill the internal table with too much data and it cannot hold that much.
You can either redesign the program so that it processes the data in batches of, say 100000 records, or contact your BASIS team and ask for their help. They could possible assign more memory to the running applications.
    Reward if helpful.
