Managing files in Spaces

OK, Spaces allows me to allocate different apps to a specific space. fine.
Now, is there a way to allocate specific FILES only to appear (and be used) in a specific space?
Because then, i could allocate all my work related files to my 'Work' Space. or all my Project XYZ files to the 'Project XYZ' space, etc...
Personnaly i don't see much use (yet) of Spaces without the ability to ALSO allocate files to spaces (on top of apps).
I mean, if Spaces is meant to remove clutter, i can't think of a better way to only make some files 'visible' (or available) in a specific Space. Now it's limited to just apps, which is feel is poor effort in terms of clutter removing.
Can someone please tell me if i'm wrong and/or if there's another way to do this?
Thanks

Oh yeah I mean the whole design of the OS is just rubbish, not good enough if you ask me. Yeah i mean why can't it make tea, coffee, breakfast, and give a massage.
Just not good enough.
Pooh pooh.

  • Managing files and space in storage repositories

    What options are available for moving virtual machine images and resources between storage repositories in OVM 2.2? The documentation does not seem to mention this at all.
    As the root repository is nearly full, I have added a second repository. I expect there is little automation here so that I also need to manually move some disk images from the root repo to the new auxiliary repository.
    Is there a special procedure I need to be aware of, or can I simply shut down a VM, move the folder and start the VM?
    Can multiple disk images belonging to the same VM be distributed across multiple repositories, or must they all reside in the same folder?
    Thanks,
    Roy

    1. Shutdown the VM
    2. Unregister the VM from Oracle VM Manager (but DON'T delete the files)
    3. Manually move the VM directory from one running_pool folder to another.
    4. Discover the VM in Oracle VM Manager
    5. Start the VM
    Can multiple disk images belonging to the same VM be distributed across multiple repositories, or must they all reside in the same folder?Oracle VM Manager will only create disk images in the same folder as vm.cfg. Shared disks will be created in the repository that has the most amount of free space available. You can use this to your advantage by creating/discovering shared disks in any repository and attaching them to your guest. Just remember not to attach the same shared disk to multiple guests!

  • (9I) OMF(ORACLE MANAGED FILES) 개념과 사용 예제

    제품 : ORACLE SERVER
    작성날짜 : 2002-04-01
    (9I) OMF(ORACLE MANAGED FILES) 개념과 사용 예제
    ==============================================
    PURPOSE
    Space Management와 관련된 Oracle 9i의 새로운 기능은 크게 다음 세 가지이다.
    - Oracle Managed Files, Delete Datafiles, Default Temporary Tablespace.
    이를 이용하면 개발 중인 혹은 운영 중인 데이터베이스에 대해 DBA의 수고를 덜게
    할 수 있다.
    Oracle 9i의 새 기능인 OMF에 대하여 개념과 사용 예제를 알아보기로 한다.
    Explanation
    DBA가 테이블스페이스를 생성할 때, 혹은 기존의 테이블스페이스에 새로운 데이터
    화일을 추가할 때, 실제 OS 화일명(디렉토리 포함)과 크기를 주면 자동으로 해당
    화일이 생성된다. 9i의 Oracle Managed Files(OMF) 기능을 이용하면 OS 화일명을
    줄 필요도 없다. 즉, 데이터베이스 차원에서 유일한 화일명을 생성하고, 그 이름의
    데이터 화일을 생성하는 것이다. 또한 OMF를 이용해 만들어진 데이터 화일의 경우,
    나중에 그 데이터 화일이 속한 테이블스페이스를 삭제하면 데이터 화일까지 자동
    으로 삭제가 된다. DBA가 필요없는 데이터 화일을 찾아서 OS 상에서 일일이 삭제
    해야만 하는 수고를 덜어주게 되는 것이다.
    1. Oracle Managed Files (OMF)
    Overview에서 기술했듯이 OMF를 이용하면 데이터베이스가 사용하는 OS 화일에 대해
    DBA가 일일이 관리해야 하는 번거로움을 덜 수 있다. OMF 화일은 Oracle 서버에 의해
    자동으로 생성(유일성을 보장하기 위한 Naming Structure 존재)되고 삭제된다.
    이 OMF를 이용할 수 있는 화일은 Control File, Online Redo Log File, Data File
    등이다.
    1) Benefits of Oracle Managed Files
    화일과 관련된 DBA 작업이 쉽다.
    유일한 화일명이 생성되기 때문에, DBA가 화일명을 잘못 사용할 염려가 없다.
    사용되지 않는 데이터 화일이 자동으로 삭제되기 때문에, 사용되지 않는 데이터
    화일에 의한 디스크 공간 낭비의 우려가 없다.
    테스트 데이터베이스, 개발용 데이터베이스 생성이 단순하다.
    SQL 스크립트에 OS의 화일명을 명시하지 않아도 되기 때문에 Portable Application
    개발이 용이하다.
    2) Oracle Managed File Configurations
    다음 두 가지의 초기 파라미터를 정의하면 된다.
    DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST : data file들이 위치하게 될 기본 디렉토리
    DB_CREATE_ONLINE_LOG_DEST_n : online redo log와 control file들이 위치하게
    될 기본 디렉토리 (n : 1과 5 사이의 정수 - for multiplexing)
    Note :
    위 두 파라미터는 ALTER SYSTEM/SESSION에 의해 동적으로 정의/변경될 수 있다.
    Note : DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST 파라미터는 정의되어 있지만 DB_CREATE_ONLINE_LOG_DEST_n
    파라미터가 정의되어 있지 않으면, 모든 화일들(Data Files, Control Files,
    Online Redo Logs)은 DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST 파라미터에 정의된 디렉토리에
    존재하게 된다.
    3) Oracle Managed File Name Structure
    OMF 화일은 Oracle Flexible Architecture(OFA)를 따르며 플랫폼에 의존적이다.
    아래는 Solaris 환경의 OMF Naming Structure의 예이다.
    Control Files : ora_%u.ctl
    Redo Log Files : ora_%g_%u.log
    Data Files : ora_%t_%u.dbf
    Temporary Data Files : ora_%t_%u.tmp
    Note :
    %u is an 8 character string that guarantees uniqueness.
    %t is the tablespace name, truncated if necessary.
    %g is the redo log file group number.
    ora_ identifies the file as an Oracle Managed File.
    Note : 위 Naming Structure를 따르지 않으면 OMF로 인식하지 않는다.
    즉, 위 Naming Structure를 따르는 화일을(OMF로 생성) 추후 이 structure
    를 따르지 않는 화일 이름으로 rename하게 되면 OMF 기능을 사용하지 못한다.
    별 다른 옵션 없이 DROP TABLESPACE를 수행하면 해당 데이터 화일의 OS
    화일이 자동으로 삭제되지는 않는다.
    4) Managing Control Files with OMF
    데이터베이스 생성 시 CONTROL_FILES 초기 파라미터를 정의하지 않으면
    DB_CREATE_ONLINE_LOG_DEST_n에 정의된 디렉토리에 Control File이 기본적으로
    생성된다(OMF). Control File 이름은 유일하게 생성되며 이 결과는 alert.log에
    기록이 된다. 데이터베이스 생성 후에는 CONTROL_FILES 초기 파라미터에 생성된
    Control File 이름을 정의해주어야 한다.
    5) Managing Online Redo Log Files with OMF
    Redo Log File specification 없이 아래와 같이 전체 Redo Log Group을 생성할
    수 있다.
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE ADD LOGFILE;
    Note : 이 경우 해당 redo log file은 DB_CREATE_ONLINE_LOG_DEST_n에 정의된
    디렉토리에 생성된다. 만일 이 파라미터 값이 정의되지 않았으면
    DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST 디렉토리에 생성된다.
    특정 Redo Log Group을 삭제할 때 관련 OMF 화일들은 OS 레벨에서 자동으로
    삭제된다.
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE DROP LOGFILE GROUP 3;
    Note : Archived Log File은 OMF일 수 없다.
    6) Managing Tablespaces with OMF
    아래와 같이 테이블스페이스를 생성하면 DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST에 정의된
    디렉토리에 크기가 100M인 데이터 화일이 자동으로 생성된다. 이 데이터 화일의
    이름은 Naming Structure에 의해 유일하게 만들어진다.
    (Autoextend On, Unlimited Restriction)
    SQL> CREATE TABLESPACE TBS1;
    데이터 화일의 기본 값 이외의 화일을 생성하려면 다음과 같이 하면 된다.
    SQL> CREATE TABLESPACE TBS1 DATAFILE SIZE 400M AUTOEXTEND OFF;
    기존 테이블스페이스에 데이터 화일을 추가하려면 다음과 같이 하면 된다.
    SQL> ALTER TABLESPACE TBS1 ADD DATAFILE;
    아래와 같이 테이블스페이스를 삭제하면 관련 데이터 화일(OMF)들도 OS 레벨에서
    삭제된다.
    SQL> DROP TABLESPACE TBS1;
    Note : DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST의 값은 다음과 같이 동적으로 변경할 수 있다.
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST = '/disk2/oradata/';
    세션 단위의 변경은 ALTER SESSION 구문을 사용하면 된다. 하지만 이와 같은
    변경이 이미 생성되어져 있는 데이터 화일의 위치를 바꾸는 것은 아니며,
    다만 새로 생성되는 데이터 화일에만 영향이 있다. OMF 기능을 사용하지 않으려면
    다음과 같이 하면 된다.
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST = '';
    Example
    테스트 1) OMF를 이용한 테이블스페이스 생성/삭제 및 이에 대한 확인
    As SYSTEM
    DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST 파라미터 값 정의

  • Mplayer can't play files with spaces in their name

    After scratching my head and reinstalling codecs several times without luck, and old memory resurfaced of this occuring before and I managed to solve the problem.
    The thing is that if you doubleclick a file in Nautilus, and said files has spaces in its name, mplayer won't be able to play it, and gives a very cryptic error message, ie "cannot play file a%20b.avi" if the name of the file is "a b.avi".
    The trick is mentioned in this thread -- you edit /usr/share/applications/mplayer.desktop and change 'Exec=gmplayer %U' to 'Exec=gmplayer %F'.
    The bug has been around forever, and hasn't been fixed yet. Perhaps the mplayer devs don't want to fix it. In any case, I would propose that either we fix this in the mplayer Arch package, or that someone more knowledgeable than I get in touch with the devs about it.
    Just a suggestion, but I think it's kind of important. It's really confusing to new users.

    In my opinion, it it's not arch's job to fix bugs from upstream, no matter if it's mplayer or gnome's fault. Of course there are exceptions, eg if a bug in a critical package hardlocks the whole system, or adds a huge security risk.
    I would like to belive that the general arch user is smart enough to find one of the 30 threads about this bug (or the entry on the bugtracker) and fix it themselves. Personaly I would put this in the same category as packages that don't have a .desktop file at all from upstream.

  • Referenced and managed files

    I know this is a topic with a wealth of discussions but my search doesn't seem to bring up what I'm looking for.  Can anyone direct me to previous discussions or other web sites that deal with the whole topic of referenced vs. managed files?  Is there a good book to pick up for that?  I want to have Aperture access my photos from an external drive (for freeing up hard drive space) and I need to better understand how to do that.  Yet it sounds like I should be keeping it in Aperture as well via some sort of compressed file (managed?)  Basically assume I know nothing and want to understand the ins and outs of referenced/managed masters.
    Thanks,
    Steve Hadeen

    Hi Steve.
    It's hard to understand -- but not _that_ hard  .  A book is not required.  See if this short description helps.
    Be careful (and specific) with your nomenclature -- it will keep you from getting mired in the bogs of confusion that rim our sun-lit plateau.  Your camera creates files.  You import files into Aperture.  On import, Aperture puts that file somewhere, and thereafter refers to it as a Master.  The Master is never altered.  You control where Aperture puts it (and you can have Aperture move it at any time).  What you see in Aperture is an Image.  Every Image has a Version and a Master.  The Version is a text file containing instructions on how to vary the Master to produce the Image.  The Version of the first Image created by Aperture when it imports a file is essentially null (it contains no information).  When you create a new Version, Aperture names it "Version 2".  (The confusion here is that Aperture encourages the user to call Images "Versions".  This is a bit of a devil's bargain: it helps the casual user, but confuses the careful user.)  You can see the Master of any Image displayed in the Viewer at any time by typing "m" (it triggers the Image/Master toggle).
    All you need to do is have Aperture move some or all of your Masters to your external drive.  Note that you can easily, at any time, convert Masters from Managed to Referenced and vice versa.  Note too that backing up your Library does not back up any Referenced Masters.  You must back up Referenced Masters in addition to backing up your Library.

  • NI Configuration Manager: Insufficient disk space to perform backup

    Hi,
    I'm having an issue with my PXI-8110 controller running LabVIEW Real-Time 10.0.1.  On start-up, I receive a message is displayed saying "NI Configuration Manager: Insufficient disk space to perform a backup"  This message just appeared.  Upon starting an FTP session I was able to see that there is only 181 megs of data on the hard drive.  In MAX, when I view the system settings of the remote PXI controller, it says that there are 0 bytes available.  I'm not sure why this is the case.  I'm not able to deploy any Veristand projects to the controller as a result.  Has anyone experienced this problem?
    Thanks,
    Cosimo

    Hello WillPwr,
    I have now had 2 different systems develop this exact error.  After the first occurrence, I assumed that it was a problem with the HD and replaced it.  Now, I am starting to worry that there may be an issue with the file management routines in LabVIEW RT.  I understand how to fix the issue, but do you have any idea of what causes the issue.  In my application, I create a temporary file to store DAQ data then save the data to a log file.  After a test is complete, the log file is transferred to a "Host" computer and the process is started again by the user when they initiate a new test.  My question: can the continuous creating and deleting of temporary files be causing the file management in the RT system to become corrupt?
    It is annoying for a customer to have to go through the process of formatting the hard drive and re-installing the software.  Not to mention that it makes the software appear to have issues...  Which it may have, but I have been very careful to close and open new files as to not develop open file references.
    Any Thoughts?
    Big Ev.

  • Managing Hard Drive space

    My computer's hard drive space had been constantly shifting. For a few weeks, after removing files from my computers, I had been slowly losing hard drive space anytime I use an app, later to recovery bits of space. However, during this week, i went through a collapse of losing almost 300 MB of HD space. Then today, I lost 1 GB. I figure it might be from updating steam (although that was done the day before), but I am really freaking out from this. Can anyone suggest how I can manage my HD space?

    your hard drive space will constantly chage in size depending on what you're doing.
    if you have 2GB or 4GB of memory - part of your hard drive is being used as a swap file.
    check your activity monitor and see how much swap file is being used by your hard drive.
    mine show's zero because I have 16GB of RAM

    Ok so 3 things, first, NEVER share your account name and private key out.
    Second, go to the management interface (management.windowsazure.com), go to storage, go to this storage account and go into the manage access keys and regenerate this key (that resets it hopefully before someone has accessed it).
    Third, open azure powershell and do a Get-AzureStorageAccount and check your urls and settings for the storage account.make sure your endpoints are correct.

    Use the form of exec that takes an array of command + args.
    arr[0] = "/bin/rm"
    arr[1] = "-f"
    arr[2] = "/home/me/some directory with spaces";Or use ProcessBuilder, which is the preferred replacement for Runtime.exec, and which Runtime.exec calls.

  • How move file with space in the name to another foler on Linux from ABAP?

    Hi experts,
    My requirement is to move the file on Linux to another folder via ABAP program.
    IN SM49 is defined ZMOVE command for "mv" operating system command. In ABAP, fm:
    SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE calls ZMOVE external command to move the file to another folder.
    But in case that file has space in the file name, then the fm gives error and the file can not be moved.
    I have tried as given in the Note 1152084 - Parameter for external commands but it doesn't work.
    Don't know if the reason is that the note is for Windows or Unix and we have Linux.
    So, I have tried with ''%file name%' and '''file name'''.
    PLease advice hoe to move file on Linux to another folder from ABAP program if the file has spec in the name.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Danijela Zivanovic

    Hi,
    You can also try :
    mv "file\ name" /<path_to_new_dir>
    (Put "\" before each space)

  • Error while relocating (Can't write file (no space)) - Help please

    I have been having trouble relocating master files since upgrading to Leopard. The problem doesn't seem to affect only Aperture. I can happen when using Finder or another application to move files from one drive to another. Other types of files don't seem to be affected, just my library of image files.
    The copy operation runs for a while then hangs up. The application doing the copy reports an error that that's the end. Aperture gives this error message: Error while relocating (Can’t write file (no space)). The Finder reports plenty of available space on the destination drive!
    I remember seeing a thread--but can't find it now--about a problem with certain xmp metatdata embedded into files causing problems with file operations.
    Hoping for a solution!

    It's possible that you might have a corrupt file. Have you tried to copy different files on to the destination drive? If those files copy fine, then narrow down the offending file by copying less images at a time.

    I have a question about extracting pages.  When I do the function, adobe saves the individual files as "<file name><space><page number>", so the files look like this "filename 1.pdf", "filename 2.pdf", "filename 3.pdf".  Without too many gory details, I am using excel to concatenate some data to dynamically build a hyperlink to these extraced files.  It casues me problems, however, for the space to be the the file name.  Is there any way to change the default behavoir of this function to perhaps use a dash or underscore instead of a space?

    No, you can't change the default naming scheme. You can do it yourself if you extract the pages using a script instead of using the built-in command.

  • How to View/manage Files on Internal Storage?

    Does anyone know how to view/manage files on the Droid Mini? I did find a list of 'Misc. Files' in 'Settings' under 'Storage'. But it only gives the option to delete. My old phone had a 'Files' app (that came on the phone) where I could view/manage all files. I'm sure I could just plug into my laptop, but I would like to have file access on my phone. Is that even possible? Is there a *good* App I could upload perhaps? Any suggestions?
    Thanks =)

    The Play Store. Search for "File Explorer". Select one from the several found.

    You're welcome, and thank you for the reply.
    2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
    But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
    1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?
    Thank's in advance again,
    André
