Managing routing tables in Windows

Hi,
I need some help regarding manipulating routing tables in Windows through JAVA. what i am looking for are functions in java that i can use to make changes in the OS (windows) routing tables so as to provide facilites like forwarding, routing etc to the various packets on the basis of their destinations (and may be source)
Can anyone give me some pointers regarding that?
Thanks in advance.
Amitabh

Maybe you can use the Runtime class to actually call
Windows' exe "route.exe" and use route.exe's
arguments to specify what you needs.

When my clients connect their CMAK-created VPN, it fails to run the script to set their routing table with the following error:

My objective is to create a VPN connection with split tunneling - does not use the VPN connection as the client's default gateway.
All my clients are on Windows 8.1 64-bit, and are logged in with Administrative privileges
My VPN Clients are on 10.242.2.0/24, my internal network is on 10.172.16.0/24
I want only traffic for 10.172.16.0 to go via the VPN. Everything else should go via the client's internet connection
My Connection Manager Administration Kit profile, was created on Windows 2012 R2 CMAK with the following settings:
"Make this connection the client's default gateway" is UNticked on the IPv4 tab.

    REMOVE_GATEWAY

"By default, the dial-up entry and the VPN entry have Make this connection the default gateway selected.
Leave this default in place, and remove any gateways by using the REMOVE_GATEWAY command in the routing table update file itself."
    It seems counter-intuitive to leave
Make this connection the default gateway selected, when I specifically don't want that behaviour, but leaving it selected and using REMOVE_GATEWAY works for me.

  • ISCSI boot with Intel NICs added to windows 2008 r2 routing table causes non iscsi traffic to attempt default routes on iscsi networks

I have a server with Intel 82576 Gigabit Dual Port Nics.  I have configured them to use iSCSI boot the primary looks to 10.0.0.1/24 and the secondary looks to 10.0.1.1/24.  The target is configured correctly.  Everything boots as expected.
I have added the MPIO feature and configured MPIO for the iscsi initiator as per: http://blogs.technet.com/b/migreene/archive/2009/08/29/3277914.aspx.
My issue is that the iSCSI networks show up in the routing table like so:
I did not configure a default route in the Intel setup utility:
I tried to explicitly remove the 0.0.0.0 entry and leave blank, with no change.  As you can see with the above routing table traffic attempts to travel over these routes:
    C:\Users\Administrator>ping google.com
Pinging google.com [209.85.145.99] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 10.0.0.201: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 10.0.1.201: Destination host unreachable.
    Reply from 209.85.145.99: bytes=32 time=23ms TTL=51
    Reply from 209.85.145.99: bytes=32 time=22ms TTL=51
    Ping statistics for 209.85.145.99:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
A ping to the outside world first attempts on 10.0.0.x/24 network, then on 10.0.1.x/24 network and then finally on the network the traffic should go over.  I don't want my iSCSI traffic to ever show up with a default route.  How do I get rid of it?
route delete 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 "on-link" results in: The route deletion failed: The parameter is incorrect.
route delete 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 on-link results in: The route deletion failed: The parameter is incorrect.
route delete 0.0.0.0 deletes all default routes, then I have to add back in the "valid default route" of 192.168.100.6.
I would like to not have to do a route delete though.

So I've sort of given up on fixing the gateway assignment in the route for iSCSI boot.  I configured a DHCP server to give out the information required by iSCSI boot and configured the network cards to use DHCP for their configuration.  I insured
that my DHCP server gave out no default gateway entry.  However, I still got the undesired routes in the routing table.  This makes me assume that there isn't a "fix" for it, only the workaround.
Here is the script I run on each iSCSI Boot initiator (you would obviously change the ip number to suit your environment):

    route -p add 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 192.168.100.6 >>c:\iscsibootroutefix.log

  • The growth of the internet routing table + LISP

I have been challenged with the task of putting together a 15-20 minute presentation of how I might go about solving the problem of the growth of the internet routing table.
If I am understanding the question correctly - as the internet grows so will the number of IPv4 and (moreso) IPv6 prefixes that appear in the global internet routing table. This will mean that the PE and P routers in a Service Provider network will find themselves having to deal with more prefixes that will in turn increase the possibility of bogons interferring with proper routing and increase the load on the routers themselves.
Besides being a very open ended question, I am trying to look at it from the perspective of a Service Provider (whom I work for) and have come up with the following options (admittedly this is only after a quick google on the topic):
    > Improvise in the short term by adjusting CAM table allocation
    > Use selective hearing by filtering prefixes that are not important
    > Use external assistance like LISP and DNS
    > Spend Money and upgrading existing routers to handle the load
Obviously with only a 20 minute window I cannot talk about much and I would like the options to be innnovative and interesting. LISP seems like an interesting option and I would like to learn about it - however I am having trouble tracking down resources that give a basic introduction to exactly what and how LISP works (every time I try and search for it a get pushed to sites talking about the programming language ).
So this leads me to two questions:
    1. Is there anything important, vital or interesting that I have not included in my quickly put together list above.
    2. Is anyone aware for a good site/resource that explains LISP from a beginners/tutorial-type perspective.

Last night we had a site go out and I got about 20 separate email for each subnet change.
What I would like to do is get this script to take all routes changed in a 1 minute interval and then output them into an email.
Not quite sure how I would go about that?

Currently studying for my CCIE and just started on EEM, have not done much scripting before so this is all good stuff to know.

You can't do this with one policy.  However, you could accomplish this with a timer policy that will batch up the pending updates, though.  Something like this would work.
event manager applet route-table-monitor event routing network 0.0.0.0/0 ge 1 action 0.5 set msg "Route changed: Type: $_routing_type, Network:  $_routing_network, Mask/Prefix: $_routing_mask, Protocol:  $_routing_protocol, GW: $_routing_lastgateway, Intf:  $_routing_lastinterface" action 0.6 syslog msg "$msg" action 1.0 handle-error type ignore action 2.0 context retrieve key RTRCTXT variable msgs action 3.0 if $_error ne FH_EOK action 4.0  set msgs "$msg\n" action 5.0 else action 6.0  append msgs "$msg\n" action 7.0 end action 8.0 handle-error type exit action 9.0 context save key RTRCTXT variable msgs!event manager applet route-table-batcher event timer watchdog time 60 action 1.0 handle-error type ignore action 2.0 context retrieve key RTRCTXT variable msgs action 3.0 if $_error eq FH_EOK action 4.0  info type routername action 5.0  mail server "10.*.*.*" to "roger.perkin@****" from "$_info_routername" subject "Routing Table Change" body "$msgs" action 6.0 end action 7.0 handle-error type exit

  • VRF Best Practice: LAN only VRF, Mgmt VRF, Global Routing table or VRF?

I am setting up a routed LAN (not a WAN) environment on two 6500 switches (sup-720). My goal is to create 32 routed environments separated by logical firewalls (multi-context ASA's). So I want a “core” router in each environment, and don't want to buy 32 pairs of 6500's-sorry Cisco.
Each of these environments are tied together by a core routing environment, running on the same pair of 6500's. No WAN MPLS is going on and I am trying to use VRF for each of the routed environments core router. The management functions of the 6500 shall run off the VRF Core router and ip range (the one that ties all the other VRF's together. Here is a simple diagram:

So to go from VRF1 to VRF2, you traverse two firewalls and VRFCOR.
Several questions related to this design:
    1) Am I nuts to use VRF's in this application?
    2) Is there a better choice than VRF's to do what I want?
    3) Should VRFCOR be the global routing table (IOW, not a VRF)? Or should be its own VRF? Another way to ask this is: Shall a router ever run entirely in VRF tables, or should there be at least one global table in use?
    4) Are there problems with any management protocols on a VRF, such as NTP, AAA, SNMP, LOGGING, TELNET? Or have all those been worked out?
    5) Any other suggestions?

  • How to use "Routing Table" option in Proxy service in OSB ?

    Hi,
I have created Business and Proxy services in my OSB console. I have used "Custom Query" option while creating the Database Adapter and I'm passing one input parameter to the query. My input parameter is "Name".
Based on the input values for this parameter, I need to pass a corresponding values to the query. For example, If I pass the following values to "Name" input parameter (India) I need to pass "Value1" to my query -
    India --> Value1
    China --> Value2
    America --> Value3
To achieve this requirement, I have used "Routing Table" option. I have specified the values as follows -
    Expression - $body/fet:FetchCustDataInput/fet:Name
    Operator- '='
    Compare value - India
    Service - "My Webservice"
    Operaton- "My Service Operation"
In the "Request Actions:" I have added the "Add an Action --> Messaging Processing --> Replace" and provided the following values -
    Replace <XPath> = $body/fet:FetchCustDataInput/fet:Name
    in Variable = "Name"
    with Expression = xs:string('Value1')
and selected "Replace node contents" option.
No validation errors I faced. I have created the Routing table in Proxy service. But when I try to execute the proxy service in my Test Console, I get the following error message -
"The invocation resulted in an error: Unknown error while processing message for service ProxyService OSBQueryService/FetchByCustomQuery/FetchByCustomQueryPS."
I have even enabled "Direct call" and "Include Tracing" options as well. The message under "Tracing" give "(echoing request)
Routed Service. No Service has been invoked, the request is echoed.".
Can anyone please help me to resolve this issue.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Udaya

Did you put any loggers in the proxy at request pipeline prior to route node ? Can you trace if the request has entered request pipeline aleast.
If not just check the transport headers under the request window in the test console. There should be a text box for entering username/password which should be left blank. I have faced this unknown exception from test console in some browsers where an incorrect username/password used to get populated here. Check this ..

I don't understand the request.  Where would the network "name" come from?  Networks are unnamed on IOS.

  • Multiple routing tables and/or policy routing

    Hey all,
I'm trying to configure a Mac Mini (10.8) for multiple routing tables and policy routing.  This server runs Ostinato, a freeware traffic generator.  My purpose is to generate traffic on multiple VLANs towards different gateways and different destinations.  To that end, I have VLAN tagged the (only) Ethernet port and configured 5 VLANs on it.  The first one has the default route (I manage this Mac over this VLAN).  The other four have IP addresses in the test range I'm using.
The goal is to have traffic sourced from IP-address-X go out vlanX towards gateway-X.  It's counterpart on the far end runs Linux and I have configured it in this way:
ip route add default via <gateway-X> dev ethX table X
ip rule add from <network-X> table X priority X
Researching on OpenBSD forums (since it's the base of MacOS X), provided this:
    route -T X add 0.0.0.0/0 -iface <gateway-X>
echo pass in from <network-X> to 0.0.0.0/0 rtable X | pfctl -mf -
However, the Mountain Lion "route" command does not support the -T option, so that killed that idea.  Another forum suggested that this would have worked on 10.4:
ipfw add X fwd <gateway-X> ip from <IP-address-X> to any
I tried this on 10.8 though the man page says it's deprecated, and (surprise, surprise) it did not work.
Any ideas to get this working appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Aaron

Still doesn't have it in 10.9.4.
    irene:~ cschwartz$ sudo bash
    bash-3.2# route -T add
    route: illegal option -- T
usage: route [-dnqtv] command [[modifiers] args]
I'm guessing you want policy-based routing due to VLANs...? If you can get a USB-to-Ethernet adapter, then maybe you can work around this by using multiple physical links instead of VLAN tagging. But if you need source-based routing etc. then no.

  • IPV6 DHCP stateful doesn't insert local subnet in route table

I am setting up IPV6 on a LAN using satic IPs for Win2008 servers and DHCP stateful mode for Win7 clients.  All static assigned servers can ping each other and if I setup a static on the Win7 clients they can also ping the servers.  However when I assign DHCP stateful mode IP to the clients they lose the ability to ping the servers.  I think that was is going on is that when the Win7 machines get IP via DHCP they do not get a route in the routing table for the local subnet.  I have included IP info for static and DHCP clients in attachments.
I figure if I could add the fd:0:0:1::/64 subnet to the DHCP client it would work but I haven't been able to find the correct syntax to add an "on-link" router.  Furthermore, this would kind of defeat the purpose of DHCP if I had to manually add routes to clients.
I have a UC520 that is the default gateway on the LAN and seems to support IPV6.  Maybe this guy can help me out?
    Thanks in advance.

    Alain,
I disagree about the /128.  If you look at the static host it also has a /128 route pointing to itself.  Also the IPV4 also shows /32 routes pointing to the local IP.  The static host has one additional route not found on the DHCP client which is the /64 route to the local subnet pointing to "on-link". It is not clear how to add an "on-link" route using netsh but my point is that DHCP should provide all info and relying on manually adding routes is not the optimal solution.
The UC520 does not have any IPV6 on it.  I only mentioned it because usually I use Windows for DHCP but in this case Windows is giving me this weird behaviour.  I would rather get Windows DHCP to solve the problem but if it can't I would use the UC520 as a backup option.
    Thanks for your input.

  • Syslogging routing table updates

I have a stable network that rarely has any routing changes. I would like any routing table updates to be sent to a logging server or possibly generate a trap so I am aware of the changes. Currently I use a Debug ip routing command and get the output sent. Is there another way to accomplish this without using the debug command?
    Keith

This will depend on your version of IOS.  Newer versions of IOS include the Embedded Event Manager version 3.0.  This version of EEM includes a route table event detector that can be used to spot routing updates.  You can try something like this:
event manager applet routing-changes event routing type all network 0.0.0.0/0 ge 1 action 1.0 syslog msg "Routing table changed; Type: $_routing_type, Network: $_routing_network, Mask: $_routing_mask, Protocol: $_routing_protocol, Gateway: $_routing_lastgateway, Interface: $_routing_lastinterface"

  • Route Table refresh

    Hi All,
Do you know if it is possible to tweak the time it takes to refresh the routing table when a route changes? Is there a reg key for this? I think by default it seems to be 10 mins or so before it works out the new route.
    Cheers,
    Simon.

I am aware that Windows has a Dead Gateway Detection in TCP/IP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/128978
This makes Windows identify if a Gateway is still functional.
Otherwise, manual configuration changes on TCP/IP make immediate updates on your routing table to make changes.
Not sure what are the other scenarios that are interesting you but I am not a way about a setting to tweak automatic refreshes or checks.

  • IP Management Route

    Hi,
I'm trying to add a management route to a CSS11506, but when I enter the route, the box notifies me that I've entered an overlapping route (which is what I was expecting). I've currently got all the RFC1918 addresses routed in one direction for traffic routing purposes, but would like to add a Class C route from 1918 address space as a management route.
Is this possible? I was under the impression that I could only manage the box through the management interface.
    Thanks

you can actually manage the box from any interface [telnet, ssh or http].
The management interface offers the security that it does not share the same routing table as the rest of the box and therefore prevent traffic from being routed from public side to management network or vice-versa.
Personally, I don't think it's really necessary to use this interface.
This independent routing table forces us to forbid the use of overlapping network.
This is due to internal hardware architecture.

  • How to count number of default routes in routing table

Is there a way for java to count the number of default routes in the routing table?

    Hi Sathish,
If you are using table mean surely you are binding the table to some model like JSON model. You can bind the checked value of the column with the checkbox in the template. So while checking you can directly check the property by taking the reference from the model. Navigate through all the objects in the model and check  the property you wanted.
This is the logic I have used to get the checked property form the table column. My table id is "tableId" and it is being binded with "/tableModelData" of json model.
      var myModel = sap.ui.getCore().getElementById("tableId").getModel().getProperty("/tableModelData");
      for(var i= 0 ; i< myModel.length ; i++)
      var singleObject = myModel [i];
      if(singleObject.checked ==  true){
    your logic.
