Mapping in Taxonomy

Hi...
My expected Hierarchy structure in Taxonomy is as below:
Root
     |__A
        |___B
        |    |___E
        |    |___F
        |___C
     |__B
        |___E
        |___F
     |__C
        |___B
        |    |___E
        |    |___F
        |___G
How do we create the tree such that, when node B (Below root node) is modified for its Hiearachy or change in Attributes, the other B nodes in hierarchy are automatically updated?

A possible solution to look into is the use of an alias. An alias allows you to create a copy of node from the tree, while still maintaining the link to the original. It is basically used so that you can show a single node in two differenct places.
See page 341 of the MDM 5.5 SP05 Data Manager Reference Guide for more instruction.
To create an alias:
1. In the hierarchy tree, select the leaf node for which you want to create
an alias.
2. Right-click on the node and choose Create Alias from the context
menu, or choose Tree > Create Alias from the main menu.
3. MDM adds a new node named node [Alias] as a sibling of and just
after the original node.
4. Press F2 to edit the name of the alias.
5. MDM highlights the name of the alias for editing.
6. Type the name you want for the alias and press Enter.
7. Drag-and-drop the alias to move it to the target location in the tree.

When i try to map/Add values at top level i.e Merch categories it pops up with "Add as Child" while when i try to Add one more hiereachy level (which is actually a child component ) it doesnot allow me to do so..It just give "Add as Sibling" ,while "Add as Child" is Greyed out..

Full path mapping not working for Taxonomy values

Hi Friends,
I'm trying to update a main table field, which is of type Lookup [Taxonomy]. The taxonomy table has a 5-level hierarchy, with two columns, Code (Display Field 1) and Name (Display Field 2). There are no attributes maintained.

The figure, unfortunately doesn't come up right, so I've indicated the levels of the nodes.
The remote keys have been maintained at all the levels. I've also set my Configuration Options settings for Hierarchy Values Automap to Fullpath. However, when I try to do an "Automap", the values are being mapped to the wrong leaf node, taking only the leaf node remote key, rather than following the full path. The leaf node value (000102, SYST) repeats multiple times, and the remote key could be maintained only for one of them. But instead of following the hierarchy, the mapping happens to the value for which remote key was maintained, here 001->000->001->001000->000102, no matter what the hierarchy is.
Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Anil,
As for Hierarchy field using leaf nodes only for matching - this is the current design and from memory allocation point of view, I think it is reasonable (keeping the full path to the Node will use huge amounts of memory).
they way workaround this is by adding the code field to the matching step, this will allow you to make sure that the currect nodes are being mapped.

I am trying to map fields to load a taxonomy structure.Since the fields to be mappped do not exist in the destination, i wanted to add them from the source, but the ADD button is greyed out.

Hi Nadine,
While doing taxonomy or hierarchy import, when you have created taxonomy or hierarchy on the source you need to go in the MAP FIELDS/VALUES tab you have to select the entire branch in the SOURCE VALUES tab then right click >> add as child or add as sibling, you can select the option right for you, once you have done that the taxonomy will be created on the DESTINATION tab.

Remote key mapping in Category table

Hi,
We are not able to populate the Remote key in the Category table.
In standard repository the Category table only has one field 'Category Name' which is defined as Display Field.
In order for us to map customer file records which has UNSPSC code with our Category definitions we have added a field 'UNSPSC ID' in the Category table.
As 'Category Name' is the field that should be displayed we need to use the Remote Key function in order to get a unique identifier in the Category table for automatic mapping of supplier records to the Categories in the Category table. However, we are not able to populate the Remote key field in the destination table Categories.
The Category table has 'Key mapping' set to yes and in the Import manager we clone the field 'UNSPSC ID' and map the clone to destination field 'Remote Key'. However, 'Remote Key' does not come up as unique Matching field and performing the Import we can see that the Remote key is blank for all records in the category table.
Does anyone out there know what needs to be done in order to populate the 'Remote Key' in the Category table?
Please note that we are able to map and populate the Remote key field in other tables such as Product Group, Supplier etc but not in the Category table. Is there some special considerations as this is a taxonomy table?

Not able to import Attribute Text Values in Taxonomy table

Hi Experts,
I have an excel file with 54K records of Attribute text values need to import in to taxonomy table. my excel file has 3 fields like ID, Name, Text Values. While mapping the fields in feild mapping grid, I have mapped ID field with Attribute Alias, Name with Attribute name, Text Value with Text Value and clone field of Text Value with [Text Value Remote Key]. Based on the field mapping I was trying to map values for ID filed with Attribute Alias field. Here I found Attribute Alias field has values in destination grid which were imported before for Attribute Name ID's in to the Alias field for attribute names.
Here I found these values are different when I tried to map these values and the Value map buttons(Automap/Map/Add) were disabled.
in the same way I tried with out maping the values for Attribute value id and selected the Attribute Alias field as value mapping field. but here in the import actions tab the records are active and disabled the import action option.
so I have executed the import process, but no attribute text values were imported in to Taxonomy table.
I am using the MDM 7.1 with build version 7.1.01.46.
Please let me know if anyone came across this situation.

For reference following is what we need to check.
- Proper mapping of source data to endeca dimension is made.
- You have made entries in "dimension_values.csv" but dimension is not specified in "schema.csv"

In a SAP presentation on TREX, the outlook for future improvements listed the following items :

I am especially interested in the items annotated with ***
Is there any information available when these feature will become available.
Will they be part of one of the next Netweaver 2004 stack levels or are these features planned only for the next Netweaver release (2005 or later)
In addition there has been the announcement of TREX Enterprise Search which should allow searching across both structured and unstructured data sources. Any news on that ?

Hi Theo,
in general, the features you list are TREX features and have hopefully been presented as such. Features of TREX are not necessarily fetaures of KM. Many SAP solutions use TREX in quite a few different ways. Some for document search (such as KM, PLM DMS and more) some for accelerated table data scans (such as BI, CRM and more).
Thus, you do not find all TREX features being used at the same time in the same solutiuon. And, to anticipate that question, sorry, the direct TREX APIs are still not public.

How to handle error when importing taxonomy for product using XML?

We are on MDM 5.5 and built a repository for SAP R/3 Material Master. It has basic material information and taxonomy information as well. We built an import map based on an XML file, which includes basic info as well as taxonomy (classification) info. The import process runs smoothly. But if the import file includes some materials which characteristic values don't exist in MDM, the import will fail and exception file has a complete different format as our import file also it only display one material. Therefore, we cannot reprocess the exception file for errorred out items. What could we do wrong? By the way, we use "Create Pivot table" option in MDM to create the original import map.

I Think your problem is similar to the below one,you can refer the below link for the same.
Import file using Pivot Tables
What you need to make sure is that you are using the same structure of the source file for importing as you used while creating the map else it wont work.
Your schema of the source file as well the schema used when creating the map must match.

Importing and adding to Taxonomy Text Values

Hi MDM experts,
I have loaded a taxonomy, attributes, attribute texts and linked the attributes to nodes in the taxonomy. I also have products associated to the taxonomy nodes.
I am now importing data to populate products with the values of the taxonomy attributes. Occasionally, there are new values for the taxonomy text of an attribute in the input file.
When I import the taxonomy text for an existing attribute which already has several text values, the new value wipes out all the current values, replacing them with the new value for the import.
For example, the attribute Primary Color has values red, green, yellow. I get a product which has a primary color of blue. When I map using the Taxonomy [Text Values], the only Text value I have left after importing is blue.
I am using the Update all mapped fields option. I tried the Replace option and got the same results.
Is there a way to import additional text values and have them add to the existing list of text values for an attribute? I am on MDM version 5.5.63.74.

Hi Sudhanshu,
You are correct. There is no way to populate an attribute that doesn't exist.
Here are my observations on importing product attribute data to MDM:
Import Manager
1. An input file that has an existing attribute that is not linked to the taxonomy node of the part will map but will not import. The error on import is 'One or more attribute values are invalid'.
2. A non-existing attribute will not map so you can't import data as long as the new attribute is in your input file.
Import Server
1. If there is an exiting attribute in the input file that is not linked to the part's taxonomy node, the import will fail with the error 'One or more attribute values are invalid'.
2. If there is a new attribute in the input file, the file will import. This tells me the import server just ignores the new attribute.
Since MDM does not have the concept of a free-form text attribute, the data for that attribute always needs to be added to the list of values for the attribute. This is what I was having a problem with. I found that if you set the Multi-Valued Update option in the Destination pane to Append, the value in the input file will be appended to the existing list of values for the attribute and then it can be used to populate the attribute on the part. (This requires 2 separate imports to populate the part attribute -- unfortunately).

Taxonomy - Custom Values Priorities

Hi People, I whish someone can help me
I'm having a big problem to import some taxonomy data into MDM. I have imported the categories, attributes and now i will import the links between categories and attributes, the problem i'm having is that I have a large number of attributes and these attributes must be showed in a specific order of priority in Data Manager. For example in my Import Spreadsheet I have 15 attributes and each attribute ins numbered from 1 to 15, the number 1 is the highest priority and the 15 is the less priority. When import the data I mapped all attributes to highest priority but i can't define a custom value, when i open the Data Manager, they all are created with the same value like Highest [10], i would like that the attributes assumes the priority value from the Import Spreadsheet values from 1 to 15, I now that from the Data Manager I can specify a Custom value, but i need to import this value direct from the Import Manager. Anyone could give a help on this?

Taxonomy Attributes - Can they accept free Text

HI Friends,
Our MDM Version: MDM 5.5, SP06, Patch 04.
We currently have Taxonomy Attributes sent from MDM to ECC Classification & Material Characteristics using CLFMAS02. Until now these characteristics had fixed values and this was fine as both MDM and ECC were accepting only fixed values.
Now the business wants to make the Classification Characteristics in ECC as free Text(No Drop Down). And this is do able in ECC. But MDM cannot allow Taxonomy Attrbutes to be Free Text . It has to have fixed set of values in MDM.
Please help me with input in the following areas:
1. Can we make the Taxonomy Attributes in MDM as FREE Texts.
2. If we cannnot make them as FREE Texts , what is the reason for it to have been designed so.
3. What should be the alternative approach i could use to have this scenario implemented in MDM.

Hi Alexander,
I have an excel interface used for Mass Creation of Materials. This will in addition have fields for the Taxonomy Characteristics which would accept free text and get mapped to the characteritics.
Unless the characteristic is a free text it will not work.
As I mentioned on the ECC side the free text for characteristics can be enabled. the challenge is MDM does not allow it so i dont think i can use the CLFMAS as is.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

People refinement panel not showing filters that are based on the taxonomy

Hi,
I am just wondering if anyone have experienced the problem below or anyone has a solution:
I have set up enterprise search center and have left the People Refinement panel as default without changing or modifying the web part. However, the people refinement panel is only showing the "View" filter category and the other default
categories that are based on the taxonomy the managed data properties are not getting displayed. Also, when I search for a specific managed property that is mapped to a user profile property that is based on the taxonomy - I did not get any result.
The only related error I found was in the ULS log which start with below logs from the Query Processor category of SharePoint Server Search in ULS:
"Claim http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2005/05/identity/claims/nameidentifier: [domain\username] cannot be converted into SPClaim. Argument is an invalid original issuer identifier. Parameter name: originalIssuer"
The screen shot below shows more of the ULS log.
It will be helpful if any one has experience this and can advise.

I have really look into the ULS logs further down again and discovered a more likely cause of this problem is that a query likely issued by Query Processor is returning zero (0) results at ULS log entry below:
GetRowsReturned 0 rows [svcproxy.cxx:523] d:\office\source\search\native\ytrip\tripoli\bigtable\svcproxy.cxx
More details below:
Does anybody knows what line 523 in svcproxy.cxx mean and how to investigate further?

Hi there,
Does anyone know what is the maximum import maps that can be created and saved.
We would like to build about 5 000 predefined import maps, each map being a unique scenarios for the End-User to choose from when preforming an import.
I would like to know if the map table can hold that many maps?

In the above post you mentioned about record and taxonomy attribute linking,please elaborate on this.
I would like to say the links between a record value and taxonomy attribute value depend on the way it is designed.
Once a taxonomy has been designed and say you have 5000 attributes in that.
Each class in that taxonomy will can be linked to the attributes defined for the taxonomy.
for example if I have a class Fan and have attributes like Weight,Height,RPM etc, then only RPM or relevant attributes are linked to that class.
It is important to understand that records are not linked to attributes but they hold the value of Class and they have relevant attributes value with them.So the link between record and attributes in established as classes are linked to attributes.
