Mapping measures in a cube vs Calculated Measure

I have a fact table as
Fact_Table_
Sales Product_ID Special_Product_Flag
Special_Product_Flag is a y/n flag
and a Dimension_ table as
Product_ID Product_Name
I want to have 2 measures in the cube
1. Product_Sales
In the cube I specify the mapping for this measure as Fact_Table.Sales
2. Special_Product_Sales
in the cube I specify an olap expression in the mapping as
     case
     when Fact_Table.Special_Product_Flag = 'Y' then Fact_Table.Sales else 0 end
Now is the measure      Special_Product_Sales treated as a calculated measure ?

Here are definitions of base versus calculated measures.
<li> A base measure is a measure that has associated physical storage in the AW. This physical storage is populated using some kind of load step, which may use either SQL or OLAP DML. The measure may then be aggregated according to the aggregation rules of the cube. The value of a base measure for any given cell in the cube may be stored or may be calculated dynamically depending on the "precomputation" rules of the cube.
<li> A calculated measure is one that has no physical storage in the AW. The values of a calculated measure are always calculated dynamically regardless of the precomputation rules of the cube.
Your case is clearly a base measure because you are physically loading data into the AW. The fact that you use a case expression in the mapping does not change the fact that is takes up physical storage nor the fact that it can be aggregated. It is the ability to aggregate the data that makes this a useful feature. In your case you will be able to aggregate special_product_sales up the product hierarchy so that its value for 'ALL_PRODUCTS' will be
select sum(sales)
from fact_table
where Special_Product_Flag = 'Y'The value of sales for 'ALL_PRODUCTS', by contrast, would be
select sum(sales)
from fact_tableAs a side note it may be better to define your mapping using NULL instead of 0.
case
when Fact_Table.Special_Product_Flag = 'Y'
then Fact_Table.Sales
else null
end

    Hi,
I am not very sure about the 9ARE aggregate (haven't used it in backups), but RTSCUBE is used to copy time Series (TS) KF data from cube to planning area (SNP or DP).
Are you trying to restore some time series data from your backup cube to the planning area? If yes, then do a mapping of characteristic from cube to planning area in RTSCUBE, and also map the TS KF between cube and planning area.
If your KF is not a time series KF, then you can't copy it from cube to planning area. You could get data to cube for some reporting, otherwise I am not sure what use the backup is for you. For SNP, most of the data would be received from R/3, so there's not much point in having a backup.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks - Pawan

  • Question on mapping measures in 10g

I have a very simple schema I am using to reproduce somethign on my end, three tables.
One table has a primary key that joins 1-n to the foreign keys of the other tables.
My dimension is from that central table, but both my measures are each from one of the other two tables.
In Analytic Workspace when I try to map my relational columns to the measure, and click apply, it simply removes the tables and mappings I added. All the examples I found in the oracle documentation lead me to think I need to create some sort of fact table or view which holds the measures in the same table as the dimension, but I do not want to pre-aggregate these.
Is there something I am doing incorrect in creating this basic cube?
    All help is greatly appreciated!

But when I make some common change in the template and re-apply it in all the message mapping, wherever it is being
used, my overridden field mapping are lost and I am not able to keep track of the changes that has been done on top of the
    template.
See....if you are using a template --> making some change to it --> re-importing it into your mapping program then the logic present in this template will be considered.....it wont be possible to retain the other mapping logic that you have used.
Or Do I need to make the changes individually in all the message mapping itself rather then template wherever the
    template has been overridden?
    seems so.

I've got some problem with an olap catalog I create.
Describing briefly my situation I may say that I have got a few measures (dimensioned with the same dimensions) but they load data from different fact tables. Using the CWM2 packages I try to create a cube in the olap catalog but when it comes to mappings of my second measure it crashes.
    - first loop:
    map_facttbl_levelkey(measure1, facttable1)
    map_facttbl_measure(measure1, facttable1)
    It passes OK
    - second loop:
    map_facttbl_levelkey(measure2, facttable2)
    map_facttbl_measure(measure2, facttable2)
    map_facttbl_measure throws the following exception:

Do you know what is wrong? Do I do something that I shouldn't?

  • Help needed for running Aggregation map for a compressed cube

    Hello everybody,
I am having problem in running an Aggregation map using a model on a compressed cube. Please find the model and Aggregation map descriptions below.
    ---Model
    DEFINE MYMODEL MODEL
    MODEL
    DIMENSION this_aw!ACCOUNT
    ACCOUNT('NIBT') = nafill(OPINC 0) + nafill(OTHINC 0)
    END
    -----Aggregation Map
    DEFINE MY_AGGMAP AGGMAP
    AGGMAP
    MODEL MYMODEL PRECOMPUTE(ALL)
    AGGINDEX OFF
    END
While running the aggregate on an uncompressed cube the Model is working fine but when I am trying to aggregate a compressed cube it is throwing me error (String index out of range: -1). I would appreciate if anyone could provide some thought to this problem.
The cubes has five dimensions apart of ACCOUNT and it is partitioned by PERIOD. I am using Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4.0 with AWM.
    Thanks,
    Vishal
    Edited by: user7740133 on Sep 16, 2008 5:23 PM

    Vishal,
I am not sure of using composites to run the model but you can limit your dimensions values to some values(which has data) and then run the model on cube_prt_topvar and aggregate the cube using default aggmap. You have to limit all dimensions to all before you run the agggmap.
I just saw the account model you posted initially. In your scenario you can limit your account dimension to have only three values 'NIBT' 'OPINC' 'OTHINC' and for other dimension to all. Now when you run the model you will not get values aggregated for account but for others you will see the aggregated value. If you would like to aggregate values for account also then I would suggest you to limit all the dimensions to leaf level and then run the model and then aggregate the cube using default aggmap.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Hiding measures in SSAS 2012

    Hi all,
I've create a cube in SSAS and deployed and it works fine. Part of my requirements is to then suppress this data and I have been able to do this using calculated measures as I need to, by placing stars to suppress small values and doing rounding to the nearest
five for other values. I do all this on the development server and the next step is to move it to the publication server so that it can used by people. This issue I have is hiding the initial, un-suppressed measures.
I've looked at other posts in order to do this I have tried using a perspective and I have tried changing the properties of each measure so the Visible flag is set to false however this gets only gets me half way there. The concern is that people will still
be able to access this data as it still exists in the cube, even though it is hidden, and could therefore gain access to it and the un-suppressed figures.
Is there any way after the cube and calculated measures have been created to remove the measures from the cube and just leave the calculated suppressed figures behind, or any way to tell SSAS to process the calculated measures based on the raw measures but
to not process the raw measures in to the cube?
I can't suppress in the raw data as the data is pretty much all ones meaning that the measure table would be a bunch of stars and so unusable to SSAS.
Thanks very much for help and time.

    Hi B,
If you remove the suppressed numbers from the cube, the numbers won't add up.
One trick that might be useful to you is cell level security by checking the "Enable read permissions" under the "Cell Data" tab.  The syntax for the read permissions is quite simple, for example.
    Measures.RawValue > 1000
This way, the user can see "everything" in the cube, but if they drill down to any cell that has less than, say 1000, they will see nothing.  As they move up to less granular data they will see the aggregated numbers.
    Hope that helps,
    Richard

  • Best Practices for Cube Mapping

I have been experiencing some challenges in mapping and loading my cube with dimension foreign keys. Does anyone know of a best way for mapping dimension surogate keys to the cube? Do I have to map each dimension separately since I have some dimension tables if joined would create tremendous Cartesian Product. OWB documentation does not contain a clear example of mapping dimension keys to the cube. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Good morning,
There are basically 2 ways of doing it.
    1)
As Remco mentioned, simply use lookup-operators on all dimensions for which you have values in your source, drag the ID's of these dimensions and all measures from your source into your target cube.
This solution will outer-join on all dimensions, enabling you to define some dummy value in case there's no reference for any specific dimension value in your source.
    2)
Join your source with all dimensions for which you have values in your source, drag the ID's of these dimensions and all measures from your source into your target cube.
Here you have full control over the join statement, i.e. full liberty in choosing whether dimension references are mandatory (thus no dummy-values allowed) or not (hence using outer join for that specific dimension).
    Hope this helps.
    Good luck, Patrick

  • Calculating NPV

    Dear all,
I get some large amount of data through a batch process from mainframe. I need to calculate NPV (Net Present Value), once per day. When I was searching through sites and posted in some other forums, I could get two replies
    1) Use OLAP DML to calculate npv.
How should I do this? I understand that I cannot use an OLAP function just like a select clause. And another point, how will I trigger this every day certain time (like a unix cron)? Please give some links.
    2) The spreadsheet technique:-
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14223/sqlmodel.htm#sthref1943
Which one I should adopt considering efficiency ? Is there any other way such as Pro*C could be used for the same purpose?
Please help with the best architectural decision to go about it, thanks
    Warmest regards,
    Ravion

Not sure what you are really asking?
NPV is a function provided within OLAP DML. You can use it directly within a custom measure or embed it within an OLAP DML program that can also be called directly from an custom measure. AWM with the Excel calculation builder utility (on the OLAP OTN Home Page) will allow you to quickly and easily add a custom measure to your AW.
I would look at the worked examples in the OLAP DML Help Guide. This will explain how to use the NPV function. Obviously you will need to create a new cube that contains all your main dimensions except time since the result returned by the NPV function is dimensioned by all the dimensions of your cashflow model except its time dimension. If your cashflows model is dimensioned only by the time dimension then NPV will return just a single value.
The following example explains using DML statements how to use the NPV function by creating a dimension called project, add values to it, and create a variable called cflow, which is dimensioned by year and project.
    DEFINE project DIMENSION TEXT
    MAINTAIN project ADD 'a' 'b' 'c' 'd' 'e'
DEFINE cflow VARIABLE DECIMAL <project year>When you assign the following values to CFLOW,
    ------------------------CFLOW----------------------
                 -----------------------PROJECT---------------------
    YEAR             a          b          c          d          e
    Yr95           -200.00    -200.00    -300.00    -100.00  -200.00
    Yr96            100.00     150.00     200.00      25.00    25.00
Yr97            100.00     400.00     200.00     100.00   200.00Using AWM these values would need to be stored in a relational table and then mapped to your cashflow cube. To view the results of an NPV calculaltion you could use the following statement:
REPORT NPV(cflow, .08, year)uses a discount rate of 8 percent to create the following report of the net present value of the cflow data.
    NPV(CFLOW,
    PROJECT        .08, YEAR)
    a                  -21.67
    b                  281.82
    c                   56.65
    d                    8.88
e                   -5.38within AWM this would be used to drive a custom formula where the formula itself would simply be the statement NPV(cflow, .08, year). You could even parameterise the middle value from a dimension to provide a series of NPV scenarios.
    Hope this helps

  • SSRS with calculated dimension members SSAS

    Hello everybody,
I have an interesting scenario involving a SSRS report with a matrix connected to a SSAS cube containing calculated dimension members.
One of the parameters is "Reference Week".  Based on that parameter, I need the measures for the previous 5 weeks.
So I created an anchor dimension "Analysis Weeks" with the members "Week -1" to "Week -5".
Everything is working fine.  The only problem is the names of the columns on the report.
Currently I have "Current Week", "Week -1", etc. as column names, I'd like to show the real dates.
For example, if I choose "2014-02-15" as the reference week, I want the first column to show "2014-02-15" instead of "Current Week". The second would show "2014-02-08" instead of "Week -1", etc.
I tried to get the current column position in the matrix, which I could use the with @ReferenceWeek parameter, but I can't access that property.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks

If I understand correctly, your column group is on "Analysis Weeks", is that right? If so just get the value of that field and use it to get the dates.
    =DateAdd("d",-1*CInt(Right(Fields!AnalysisWeeks.Value,1))*7,Fields!ReferenceWeek.Value)

  • Combining relation facts with dimensions from an Essbase cube

    Hi!
I am having trouble combining relational measures (from EBS) with dimensions from an Essbase cube. The dimensions that we want to use for reporting (drilling etc) are in an Essbase cube and the facts are in EBS.
I have managed to import both the EBS tables and the cube into OBIEE (11.1.15) and I have created a business model on the cube. For the cube I converted the accounts dimension to a value based dimension, other than that it was basically just drag and drop.
In this business model I created a new logical table with an LTS consisting of three tables from the relational database.
The relational data has an account key that conforms to the member key of the accounts dimension in the Essbase cube. So in the accounts dimension (in the BMM layer) I mapped the relational column to correct column (that is already mapped to the cube) - this column now has two sources; the relational table and the cube. This account key is also available in the LTS of my fact table.
The content levels for the LTS in the fact table have all been set to detail level for the accounts dimension.
So far I am able to report on the data from the fact table (only relational data) and I can combine this report with account key from the account dimension (because this column is mapped to the relational source as well as the cube). But if expand the report with a column (from the accounts dimension) that is mapped only to the cube (the alias column that contains the description of the accounts key), I get an error (NQSError 14025 - see below).
Seeing as how I have modeled that the facts are connected to the dimension through the common accounts key, I cannot understand why OBIEE doesn't seem to understand which other columns - from the same dimension - to fetch.
If this had been in a relational database I could have done this very easily with SQL; something along the lines of select * from relational_fact, dim_accounts where relational_fact.account_key=dim_accounts.account_key.
    Error message:
[nQSError: 14025] No fact table exists at the requested level of detail

Avneet gave you the beginnings of one way, but left out that a couple of things. First, you would want to do the export of level zero only. Second, the export needs to be in column format and third, you need to make sure the load rule you use is set to be additive otherwise the last row will overwrite the previouse values.
A couple of other wats I can think of doing this
Create a replicated partition that maps the 3 non used dimensiosn to null (Pick the member at the top of the dimension in your mapping area)
Create a report script to extract the data putting the three dimensions in the page so they don't show up.
Use the custom defined function jexport in a calc script to get what you want

Any idea what might be the reason?

Please refer another question with the same issue
    here
Below is my answer from that post:
From my experience, this may be because of data loading in dimensions or fact while you are processing your cube or (in worst case) the issue is not related to attribute keys at all. Because, if you re process the cube it will process successfully on the same
    set of records.
    First identify the processing
    option for your SSAS cube.
You can use SSIS "Analysis Service processing task" to process dimensions and fact separately.
    or
You can process object in batches (Batch
Processing). Using batch processing you can select the objects to be processed and control the processing order.
Also, a batch can run as a series of stand-alone jobs or as a transaction in which the failure of one process causes a rollback of the complete batch.
    To aggregate:
Ensure that you are not loading data into fact and dimension while processing cube.
Don't write queries for dirty read
Remember when you process a dimension on ProcessFull or ProcessUpdate; cube will move to unprocessed state and it can
    not be queried.
