Master Detail Wizard: Cannot Redirect Detail Form to Detail Form 2

Dear all,
I created a Master Detail Report Forms using wizard where Master Report has a link to its Detail1 form, which has a link to its Detail2. However, the page redirection didn't work from Detail1 to Detail2 whereas Master to Detail1 worked.
I checked the region button in Detail 1 that did the redirection, I didn't find anything wrong (I think).
Suppose Detail1 is page 210 and Detail2 is page 220, The following is my configuration:
- Under "Action When Button Clicked" tab:
1. Action is set to "Redirect to Page in this Application"
2. Page is set to 220
3. Request is left blank
4. Clear Cache is set to 220
5. Set These Items is set to
P220_TICKET_ID6. With These Values is set to
&P210_TICKET_ID.7 Database action is set to
- No Database Action -Is there any other place that I should check that might effect the redirection? Please advice.

The answer to this problem appears to be that there is a bug in HTMLDB 2.0 (at least thats what I'm thinking) in that it is not handling dates correctly when passing them to the detail form. Once I modified the date column in the detail form, and formatted it with TO_DATE, it all worked fine. I would think the wizzard would do this. Oh well...

    If I'm reading this correctly, then one of the columns in your detail tables' primary key is also the foreign key pointing to your master table? If that's the case, then that's not supported by the wizard. For the wizard generated master-detail form to work properly, you'll have to have a foreign key column in your detail table which is not part of your detail table's primary key.

  • Wizard generated Master-Detail form issues

    The wizard-generated master/detail forms have several severe usability issues when the "Choose Layout" option is set to "Builder master detail with: edit detail as tabular form on same page".
    Some of these issues are:
    - The form has two Apply Changes buttons, one to save the master row and one to save the detail row. Users find this very confusing. If you save the master row changes, any changes to the detail rows are lost and vice versa.
    - The form has two Delete buttons, one to delete the master row and one to delete the checked detail rows. Users find this confusins also. Clicking the lower delete button discards any other changes that were made.
    - The Add Row button also discards any other changes that were made.
    The first two issues are easily fixed. With a few simple changes to the generated page, I can make it so there is a single "Apply Changes" button that 1) saves any changes to the master row, 2) saves any changes to detail rows and 3) deletes any checked detail rows.
    I cannot figure out how to solve the third issue (that the add row button discards any changes). I can make it so the "Add Row" button saves the changes, but this isn't user friendly either; I don't think any changes should be comitted unless the user specifically presses 'Apply Changes'.
    So far, I thought of several ways to possibly fix this but can't get any of them to work. Some of the ideas were:
    1. The 'Add Row' button could run the automatic row processing and MRU processes, but not do a commit untill/unless Apply Changes is pressed. I don't think this is feasible because http is stateless and connection pooling may be used, so we can't have a transaction that spans http requests.
    2. Move the Add Row process to page rendering so that the detail table always has an empty "add row" row thereby making the Add Row button unnecessary. I tried this, but it looks like the add row process was designed to run during the page processing, not during rendering, and it fails with a divide by 0 error when it is run during page rendering.
    3. Use client-side DHTML (instead of the HTML DB add row process) to add an empty row to the html table (i.e. add row button does not do a submit, it is handled entirely on the client). I tried this, but the MRU process fails because it doesn't expect the added row.
    If anyone has any other ideas on how to fix this problem, they would be greatly appreciated.
    HTML DB solves this problem in the SQL workshop create table wizard.
    In HTML DB 1.6, the "Add Column" button does a submit but somehow saves any changes that were entered.
    In HTML DB 2.0 beta, client-side DHTML is used (my approach 3 above).
    Can someone from Oracle share how the HTML DB create table wizard solves this problem?

    Thanks for your feedback. I’ll add your suggestions to our list of tabular form enhancement request.
    The wizard generates a regular form for the master record and a tabular form for the detail records. As you pointed out, it’s quite easy to customize this to your individual needs.
    Unlike regular forms, there’s currently no session state concept for tabular forms, so you either need to write your data to the database, or you will loose any changes if you e.g. paginate. For the same reason, the “Add Row” button and the associated process is generated so that any changes are saved to the database before adding a new row. Of course the MRU process that is executed on “Add Row” can be removed, if that is the preferred behavior.
    A work around would be to code the DML processes for tabular forms manually, and temporary store the data in HTML DB collections to simulate a stateful behavior.
    In HTML DB 2.0 we started adding DHTML features, such as the create table wizard you’re referring to. Some features, like the pull down menus, will be available to be used in your own applications. Other features, like the DHTML tabular form, won’t be available for custom applications in 2.0.

    I was using the layout wizard to create a master details form but for the details portion of the form, only one row of data was displayed. What needs to be done to have multiple rows displayed for the details portion of the master details form? I'm using Forms 9i.

    I've created a master detail form in apex 4.0.1. Inserting and updating records is working. But when i want to delete a detail or master record, nothing is happening. The delete button is just not working.
    Can someone please tell me if this is a bug, and if so, is there a work around to solve this problem?

  • Master/Detail form with modal edit

    I have a master/detail form that I generated using the wizard that I want to change to have a modal Edit button; i.e. the behavior I want is that the form view is initially read-only and you then have to click an Edit button to make the form editable.
    I figured out how to do this for the master row by making the edit button redirect back to the same page with the request set to 'EDIT' and then making all the page items read-only with a condition REQUEST <> 'EDIT'.
    I cannot find a good way to do this for the detail rows, which are actually a report with editable columns. The problem is that the 'Tabular Form Element' section of the 'Column Attributes' page does not have a read-only condition.
    The only work around I can come up with so far is to have a second read-only report region with the same SQL query and then display either the editable or non-editable report region conditionally depending on whether the request is EDIT. But this obviously not ideal (having same SQL in two places, etc.).
    If anyone can think of a better way to do this, I'd be grateful.
    HTML DB Team: Can you log the addition of a read-only condition attribute on editable report columns as an enhancement request?

    Simply add the lookup table to the FROM clause and join its PK with the FK in the master table in your query. That's basic SQL, and you definitely must get a good grasp of SQL to do more than very basic work in APEX.

  • Many to many master detail form

    Hi All,
    APEX 3.1.2 on SuSE 10 Oracle 10.2.0.3 64 bit
    I am new to APEX, but used OAS several years ago. Back then I hardcoded all htp.print commands. We are building an intra-team application to track system relationships. For example,
    web interface 3 --> application server 2 --> database 6
    Our tables are similar to the following
    SYSTEMS
    system_id (unique sequence)
    system_type_id (database, app server, apache, etc.)
    SYSTEM_TO_SYSTEM
    publishing_system_id - number
    consuming_system_id - number
    We would like to have a master detail form where we would query database 6 for example, and then see all related systems one level below it (application server 2 in the example above). I have been able to query the related systems and show them in a drop down pick list on the detail form, but I cannot edit them.
    The wizard asked for the primary key of the detail table, which in this case is not a sequence generated value, but a pick from a systems table lookup on system_id/system_name.
    If the master form would automagically lass the system_id to the publishing_system_id on the detail form, and allow me to update that with a picked system_id tied to consuming_system_id, that would be perfect.
    I can write the htp calls I mentioned earlier, but I am sure I am missing something.
    Does anyone have any best practices for this?

    Here, I have used two tables e.g. test1 and test2. Test1 has an id column which is just a sequence column and the name column in this table has a unique key.
    Table test2 has id column as primary key and name1 column is linked with Test1 table on the Form. Name2 column is not required to be linked with Test1 table.
    If this is what you are after, then I can give your more detail for it.

  • Master-Detail Form - implementing some thing like Post-Query trigger

    I am struggling to implement an eqivalent of a post-query trigger in Oracle Forms. Please bear with me as I am trying to explain in detail what the problem is.
    Here is my situation.
    I have three tables EMP, DEPT and LOCATION. I created a Master/Table pages on EMP and DEPT.
    Basic relationships.
    Each LOCATION has one or more DEPTs; Each DEPT is at one and only one LOCATION.
    Each DEPT has one ore more EMPs; Each EMP is assigned to only and only DEPT.
    Not getting too complicated, here are the table layouts:
    LOCATION:
    ID number(10,0) not null,
    NAME varchar2(20) not null
    DEPT
    ID number(10,0) not null,
    NAME varchar2(20) not null,
    LOC_ID number (10,0) not null foreign key from LOCATION
    EMP
    ID number(10,0) not null,
    NAME varchar2(20) not null,
    DEPT_ID number (10,0) not null foreign key from DEPT
    Assume I have all the constraints, BIU triggers, sequences defined properly.
    I am using the APEX page wizard to create a Master/Detail Form on DEPT and EMP. The first page is the Master Report on DEPT. I want to display the Location Name on this page also. Because the Master Report allows
    you to change the query, I was able to add the Location Name as part of the
    query. This was very simple.
    Select a.name "Department_Name",
    b.name "Location"
    from dept a, location b
    where a.loc_id = b.id
    Moving on, In the Master Detail Form, I would like to get the Location Name as part of the first Region (Dept Region).
    In this region, I would like to include the Location Name also. So my first region on the Master Detail form includes:
    Dept Id: ________
    Dept Name: _______
    Location Name: __________
    As Region are automatically populated using using a Fetch Row from EMP table (Automated Row Fetch) on an After Header process point, I don't have a way of including the Location as part of query. So I created a Region level Item called Location Name, made it Display only.
    In the old SQL*Forms, or Oracle Forms days, I used to use a Post-Query trigger, or Post-Change trigger to fire on the Loc_Id column to populate the Location Name. Simple fetch like:
    Select name
    into :P80_location_name
    from location
    where loc_id = :P80_loc_id
    However, I am struggling to implement some thing simple like this in APEX. Tried creating a processes, computatations etc, but nothing is working.
    I have seen some previous responses to fetching values from a foreign table
    using a button or AJAX script, but this should be very basic. What am I
    missing here?

    Hi John,
    I'm not too familiar with the post-query triggers in Oracle Forms, but the use of a List of Values (LOV) on your LOCATION table might do the trick for you. If you create a dynamic LOV based on your LOCATIONS table, it can then be referenced by the LOC_ID item on the Master-Detail page, to display the Location Name. You could try doing the following:
    1. Create a new dynamic LOV, LOCATIONS, using a query similar to the following:
    select Name d, ID r
    from LOCATION
    order by 1
    2. Edit the "Create" button on the Master report page, and in the "Optional URL Redirect" section set "Request" to CREATE. Click Apply Changes, to save the setting.
    3. Edit the LOC_ID item on your Master-Detail page, and set the following:
    * in the "Name" region change the "Display As" setting to Select List
    * in the "Label" region change the Label to Location Name.
    * in the "List of Values" region set the "Named LOV" to LOCATIONS
    * in the "Read Only" section, set the condition to Request != Expression 1, and set Expression 1 to CREATE.
    Click Apply Changes to save the settings.
    When you run the pages now, the Location Name field will appear as Read-Only when editing a selected Master row. The item will appear as a Select List when the user clicks "Create" on the Master page, to create a new Master row.

  • Navigation failure on master/detail form

    I have a master/detail (tabular) form that was created with the wizard. I have purposely not modified much of the two pages, so as to see how they work.
    For the most part, it works as I expect. As it sits, it is nearly as it was on creation. I've not added any real processing, just a little cosmetic work.
    One of the errors, involves adding a detail row once the master record has been created. It'll add two rows, and fails on the third try. Always. The error message is this:

    Manually, I've created default detail rows for some of the master records. When I pull one of these master records up, it pops up with the master and the subsequent 62 rows of detail that I expected to see. Except that when I hit the 'add row' button now, I get a page not found error on my browser, with this as a URL:
    http://cberry29-1:7777/pls/apex/wwv_flow.accept
    The other part that fails, is the next/previous navigation button on the master section of the form. It works sometimes, sometimes it doesn't. What I've noticed is that sometimes the pagination will say 2 of 17, even though I'm clicking on the first row item displayed on the report. The item 'P15_PAGE_COUNT' is not working properly.
    I un-hid (made visible as display text) the P15_ID item for the master table, and it appears to be scrolling right along. For awhile. And then, on another 'previous' click, I get the page cannot be displayed message on my browser again. One thing I've noticed, is that on the fetch for the previous master record that still displays okay, there's a delay in retrieving it. It's like the screen blinks, and there it is - number 564. And then one more click of the previous button, and boom. Page cannot be displayed.
    Getting wise, I've looked at the log file for my database. And there are a boatload of this one:

    The problem of navigation between my master records was solved, by upping the count for PlsqlMaxParameters 15000 in plsql.conf.
    Found that here in the forum using Google.
    Anyway, I still had the problem of inserting (using the add button) for my details. I had tightened up the for my reformatting the columns. By adjusting the elements. And just for good measure, I had chosen to not show the little selector box and the id. Had me a nice tight tabular form. That was broken.
    I re-displayed/enabled the select box and the id, and all is well.
    Until I open up something else.

  • Can't add new detail record in Master Detail form

    Hi ,
    I've created a simple database application from scratch by initially selecting a Master Detail page. This generated a report page (for the parent ) and a form page (for the child ). On using the form to add a new child record the following error was generated:
    Error in mru internal routine: ORA-20001: Error in MRU: row= 1, ORA-01400: cannot insert NULL into ("STUDENT1"."DELEGATE"."DELEGATE_ID"), insert into "STUDENT1"."DELEGATE" ( "DELEGATE_ID", "CLIENT_ID", "SURNAME", "INITIALS", "SEX", "SPECIAL_NEEDS") values ( :b1, :b2, :b3, :b4, :b5, :b6)
    Error Unable to process update.
    The 'child' field listed in the error message is automatically hidden on the form and I had presumed that on generating this form using the wizard that I would have had an opportunity to link the delegate_id field to a trigger or a sequence as seems to happen when creating a database application scratch using other page types. I'm new to Apex so I'd be grateful if anyone could let me know as to why this default behaviour occurs,

    I tried it for Apex 4.0.2 (my version) and 4.1 (on apex.oracle.com) and I am asked for master and detail PK generation in both versions.
    What are your steps exactly in the wizard? Like this?
    Create page -> Form -> Master Detail Form
    Now you see a whole list of sub steps including "Primary Key Source".
    Oh I see "Create Application wizard." in your post. Start with an empty application (blank page) and use the Create Page wizard instead. Maybe that's the difference.

  • Tabular Forms, MRU's & master / detail FK's

    I've used a wizard to create a simple master detail form. Updates & delete's work fine on the detail block. When using the add row button all seems OK too. Issues arise when saving a new detail record. The PK from the master table does not seem to be populating the detail tables FK. This results in a error declaring that the FK cannot be null... as below
    Error in mru internal routine: ORA-20001: Error in MRU: row= 1, ORA-01400: cannot insert NULL into ...
    Am I missing a trick here?

    I have just started to look at APEX. Do you have an example of a master detail. I tried to create a form in the samples but do not get what I would expect.
    Should I get a 2 block orientation or will I get something else?
    Do any of the packaged apps / sample code have a good example?

    I know there are some entries in the forum about this but I tried some of those with no results.. I also found some demos in apex.oracle.com but since I cannot edit the code I cannot find the answer myself...
    The steps I am using are these:
    1. Created a master/detail form using he wizard... (Master/Detail1)
    2. Create a new region in the form for detail/detail (lets call it Detail2) of type Updateable Report. This report will select form a table with 2 columns ( LinktoDetail1Id, myValue)
    3. Create item P_mycolumnvalue in region Detail2 that is populated when a row in Detail1 region is selected
    4. Edit the propertied for Detail2 -> LinktoDetailId column, in the item properties I Enter Default type: Item (Application or page item name) in Default value I entered P_mycolumnvalue item ..
    When running it I get this error:
    ORA-01790: expression must have same datatype as corresponding expression
    Can anyone explain in detail how to link Detail1 with Detail 2 for when inserting data?

    I think the problem is in the way I defined the Item to store the ID from Detail1.. so Let me rephrase my question...
    I need a master/detail1/detail2 form to insert data...
    I am trying to use
    How can I (link) assign the ID from Region Detail1 into a column in region Detail2. I assume by using default field .. but I get the error I mentioned above when doing it

    Hi San Mat,
    I would never recommend having a composite PK on any table. Use the sub_trans_id as the PK in its own right and have trans_id as a Foreign Key pointing to the master table.
    However, given your existing table structure, what you need to do is add a Default value for the ENTRY_ID field on the child table that points to the Page Item used for the PK field on the master table (you've said trans_id but do you mean ENTRY_ID??). On the column's Column Attributes page, set Default Type to Item (Application or page item name) and the Default to P1_ENTRY_ID (or whatever the name is of field is on the master table's form that holds the PK)
    When a new row is added to the child table, the ENTRY_ID from the master table is inserted automatically.

    2. I made -in Jdeveloper- a connection to OE8 schema
    2. I created an application with web application template ; in my new workspace i had 2 projects Model and ViewController
    3. In model i choose Business Tier - ADF Bussiness Components - Business Components from Tables and I followed instructions in tutorial
    4. In ViewController I created Web Tier - JSF - JSF JSP , with the JSF-JSP wizard a jsp page browseCustomerOrders.jsp. For building a master detail form i folowed instructions in tutorial

    Hi,
    the problem seems not to be within your application but in missing files on your embedded OC4J. Just try and unzip the JDeveloper 10.1.3 install again.

  • How to determine the ROWNUM in a Master Detail Form

    Hello,
    I am working in a Master Detail Form with Orders and Order Items Information; and I created a process that allows the users to select a Product ID on a tabular form, and the next column is populated automatically with the Product Description.
    To achieve that, I followed some instructions by Denes Kubicek (http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=31517:241), but my case is slightly different:
    <ul>I am using a wizard-created tabular form, instead of a manual tabular form; and </ul>
    <ul>Instead of using another page as a Popup to pass the parameter of the ROWNUM, I am using a plug-in called “Tabular Form Super LOV” which is a modified version of the SkillBuilders’ Super LOV that works on Tabular Forms. </ul>
    The Product ID is returned in the correct row by the plug-in; but in the case of the Product Description, it is always returned into the first row; and my problem is that I don't know how to determine the row where the user clicked to call the plug-in.
    I set up an example in apex.oracle.com in case someone would like to look at it:
    Workspace: ediazjorge
    Username: test
    Password: test
    App Name: Sample App
    App Number: 1550
    BTW, I am using Apex 4.1.1.00.23 and Oracle DB 10.3.2.

    Thank you for your time and help.
    Unfortunately, it is still not working properly:
    1. When the Popup LOV opens, the first row of the tabular form is 0, the second row is 1, and so on. How can I assign the values starting with 1 and in the format *0001* ? (I am still a novice on Apex and new to JavaScript :-), sorry about that).
    --2. Also, when I close the Popup LOV, the value of P1_ROWNUM is ‘undefined’ again so I'm not sure if the Product Name column will be populated.--
    3. And finally, you are using the jQuery Selector uPopupLOVIcon, which is an attribute of the Cloudy Theme. In my real application (Apex 4.1.1.00.26), my element looks like: *<img src="/i/lov_16x16.gif" width="16" height="16" alt="Popup Lov" alt="List" style="vertical-align:middle;" align="middle" />*. What do you recommend me to use as a jQuery Selector?
    Again, I really appreciate your help and time. I think you solved the most difficult part.

    Update: I just found out that the problem with my comment 2 is because I didn’t delete the previous dynamic action that set the value to P1_ROWNUM.
