Master Pages on Merged Projects

Hi All
I'm evaluating RH and looking to create webhelp for 17 apps (part of suite a la Microsoft Office). There will be many related items that cross child projects. i set up the master, create one child, generated and merged and all went great. What I can't figure out is Master Pages
Is there a way to have the Master Page (inc CSS) apply to all chaild projects? If not, it would mean that any style change would need to be done 17 times, which seems a bit cumbersome.
If not, is there a way to use my master project to create a template for the child?
Regards
mark

Each project is quite separate and the only visual part that is controlled by the parent is the skin. The parent skin will be displayed for all topics no matter which child they are in except when the child output is opened independently.
In theory you could put the CSS in Resource Manager then when you change it in one project the theory is you can update it back to the Resource Manager so that on opening any other project you get warned it is no longer in sync and you can correct that. That is the theory but I haven't tested it works with CSS files in the same way as when using images.
Resource Manager does not offer Master Pages as an option. I think the easy workaround would be to make sure the Master Page has an identical name in all projects and then copy them while the projects are closed.
To start the child projects get one set up and close it. Then just use Windows copy and paste to create the copies. Open each one and use File > Rename Project.
Did I refer you to my pages on Merged Help? If not take a look there as it should help you at this stage of the game.

  • How to I export a master page?

I see the option to import a master page, but no option to export one. How does one export master pages from a project?

    Hi there
To my knowledge there is no method offered to export a Master Page. At least, not from the UI.
When you create a Master Page, you are creating a file bearing the extension of .HTT. When you are viewing the Master Pages pod, try right-clicking one of the .HTT files you see. You should see an option on the context menu labeled "Explore". Click that option and Windows Explorer should open at the file location where your Master Page files are. Note that you will see other project files there as well. Master Pages are co-mingled with other files in the project.
Locate the .HTT file of choice and copy it where you wish.

  • How to retain the master slide background at the end of the quiz reporting page of a project

I have noticed that the content of the master slide is not retained till the end in the quiz results page of the project. What should I do to retain the contents till the end of the project?

    Hi,
Thanks for your time. I have checked the transitions. i didnt give any transition to the slides in the project and i also check the preferences too, i had disable the options that is to fade in and fade out. My problem is "I have 12 slides in this with an intro slide and 10 question slides and then the quiz results page. In that result page, it is showing the result at the end of the result slide the pause button in the skin turned to play button. While clicking that play button it shows only the results, review quiz button and retake quiz button only. It doesn't display the images, widgets, text and some other options which is used in master slide or in the slide itself " Why those things have disappeared? Can you guide me how to overcome this issue.
The solution for the playbar is quiet good. One more doubt in that, The play bar should be displayed in that page but it should be disabled, Is there any solution for this? If yes, kindly share with me

  • Master page spread - data merge problem

ok - I  prematurely posted b4 that I could successfully do this but am stuck with one  problem that is a show stopper.
I have  a master page spread [left and right pages] which has several fields which I populate on  over 200 pages with data merge. I got this to work ok but teh snag is  that the merge only works  on teh first master page - and since InDesig automatically starts with a right hand page - this would be teh 2nd page of my spread - I can get  both pages to merge data correclty but I wind up with  a starting right hand page - then a left hand page  facing a right hand page which is not for hte same record but the record below it. Is tehre any way aroudn this? Is tehre any way I can force inDesign to start with a  left hand page?

whohee - it worked - thanks a bunch - you guys in this forum are gre

  • Master Pages / Sync topic list and Project Manager

    Hi,
Is there an easier way to see if I've applied my Master page to all my topics rather than right-clicking and checking Properties for each topic?  No indication of a Master page shows up in my topic list and there isn't a report I saw to identify this.  What I have in my Master page is code so it would not be apparent by looking at output.
Also, is there a way to sync the highlighting within RH to the topic I'm working on.  For example, if I'm working in a topic and it's highlighted in my topic list, the same topic isn't highlighted in the Project Manager?
    Thanks very much,
    Sue

    Hi there
If you look at the Topic List pod you should be able to see a column labeled Master Page.
Click image below for larger view.
If you don't see this column, you might need to scroll the scroll bar to the right. Note also that you may drag the column header to place it next to the Topic name if you like. Also, you may need to right-click the column headers in order to enable the Master Page.

  • Data Merge Feature in Master page in InDesign CS5

I really need some help, because I'm running out of time...
I'm trying to create a merged document by using the Data Merge Feature in InDesign CS5. Normally it works fine, but right now I'm trying to create one with a .csv file imported in de master page so I can update it later on. That should work, fine but after 16 hours I still dont have a merged document. According to InDesign we aren't even at 25%! It only 142 records spread out over 9 pages. What do I do wrong? Can anybody provide me with an answer?

    Dutch Lauwie wrote:

Dutch, does that mean that you normally use a different kind of file as a data source other than .csv? If so, which? I tried with both .csv and .txt (tab delimited text), and both worked fine for me on a simple test. Both allowd me to update the ID file after I had updated the data source.

How long does something like this usually take for you? Is this a very complicated document when compared to the documents you usually do? You may have some document corruption, so trying the same data file on a new document might be worth a try. You might also want to try trashing your InDesign preferences also.

  • Merge pages from 2 projects

    Hi,
Is there a way to merge the contents of 2 pages from
    different projects?
We have a general documentation project that we merge with an
application specific documentation project. But for some pages I
want to extend the contents of the general topic with application
    specific information.
    thanks,
    eli

    Hi,
I wish it was that simple :-). I'm actually looking for a way
to automatically do this. I have more than 10 application specific
projects and I want to maintain the general documentation
separately from the application specific documentation.
Also, I do not want to copy the same text to all these
    different projects.
With the merged projects I can merge indexes, TOCs, and so
on. And I'm looking for a way to do this within a page.
    Thanks for your help,

  • Is it possible to define master page usage for a linked project?

    Hello again!
I feel like I'm spamming this forum with all my questions, but I seem to be having a difficult time trying to find information on FM/RH integration.
Is there a way to define which master pages are assigned to the topics linked to FM files?
I don't really want to do this individually for each topic (I only have 2 master pages: one for the intro page and another for all other topics).
Even so, when I map a FM file manually to a RH master page, I get a warning message stating that any changse to the topic will be overwritten on the next FM file update.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks again.

    Hi Sue
I'm a RoboHelp user and a big ole Frame ignoramous. So what I'm about to tell you comes from the RoboHelp perspective.

Indeed it would be VERY cumbersome if you had to associate a Master Page on a topic by topic basis. The good news here is that you have an ability in RoboHelp to select as many topics as you like and only make the association a single time.
Just open the Topic List pod. There you are able to select all topics by pressing Ctrl+A. From there you are then able to associate the desired master page.

  • Map ID with merged projects

    Hello,
I'm working on merged projects for made one CHM for a
    software.
I manage to merge the several chm, but now I've got a another
problem with the topics ID I use to call help in the application.
I create a file Map-ID for all my .chm, but I don't know how
to use it from my principal .chm.
    - Do I must create only one file Map-ID for all the .chm ?
    - Do I must use all the Map-ID of all the ;chm and call them
    from my principal .chm ?
If somebody can help me for that.
    Thanks a lot.

    vlavergne,
This area of HTML Help deployment is a little tricky. You can
either channel all the context help calls through the master help
    file, as described here:
    http://helpware.net/htmlhelp/how_to_merge.htm#ContextHelpIDs
    http://helpware.net/htmlhelp/how_to_merge_ctx2.htm
or you can pass the calls directly to the slaves -- but you
would modify their window definitions so that they open with
exactly the same navigation pane as the master file. For guidelines
on how to do this, see the section headed "Step 3 - Slave Windows
Definitions" in the first of the two pages above.
Here's an earlier thread that may provide useful information:

Are you using the HTML Help API or .NET HelpProvider
    components to display context-sensitive help?

  • RH8 - Publishing Merged Projects with AIR Browserbased Help

    Hello,
i have one master project with 5 subprojects. When i make an Output with Adobe Air "Browserbased Help" is the preview ok, all tables of Content from all projects are included.
When i publish it to our webserver i first got a grey screen with an loading error.
I discovered that the link in the start site  to the included file ac_oetags.js is incorrect because of upper and lower case writing. When i change the link, the site appeared correctly - but unfortunately only with the table of content of the main project.
Is it possible to merge Projects with Browserbased Help?
Has anybody an idea what went wrong?
    Thanks for your support!
    Steffan

In the Start Page field you define where you want to generate the help.
If you click the Server settings you define where you want to publish.
When you publish the parent it goes to \\servername\myrobohelp and it creates a folder called mergedProjects and subfolders for each child.
When you publish the children, your Server setting must point to those subfolders.
Does that clarify? If not, please add some screenshot using the camera icon so that the images are in the post as above.

  • Only able to edit one page from a project then must shut down to open another

Hi!  I have upgraded to Muse CC 2014 on a Windows 7 machine, when I open a project I can only open a single page from the planning window. It will not allow me to open another page when double clicking on the page icon. If I close the first page opened I no longer have the ability to open any pages for editing. I have to FORCE QUIT Muse and reopen to edit a single page every time. Anybody have this issue and a fix? I already have went through the usual CC uninstall al reinstall so please do not suggest it.

Thank you for providing your file. It's been very useful. Sorry for the slow reply. Adobe in the US shuts down for the 4th of July week, so the Development Team's back from leave today.
We've isolated the cause of this and are working on an update to address it. In your file this bug is triggered by groups that contain HTML Insert objects which are slow to draw. The header on your master page contained multiple groups with HTML embed code objects. I've ungrouped those and that avoids this bug without changing the appearance of your pages. I've sent your file back to you using Adobe Send. You should receive an e-mail notification shortly, if you haven't already.
Now that we are aware of the problem and the cause, we're actively working on an update to address it. In the meantime, if you avoid grouping HTML objects with other objects in Muse you should avoid this bug.
Very sorry for the inconvenience. A huge THANK YOU for sending us your file.

  • About Me link is not visible in Welcome Menu if placed on custom location in Custom Master Page

    Experts,
I am facing a problem in my -ongoing SP 2013 project's branding. The problem is with Welcome Menu. I need to put the welcome menu at a custom place rather than in ribbon area. for this I added welcome menu snippet inside my Master Page HTML but there is
a problem with it. On ribbon link "About Me" is visible while at the same time link "About me" is not visible on welcome menu which has been inserted on custom place. below images describe my problem more accurately.
I need help in this regard if some one can help me. For your information My User Profiles are properly configured and working.
    HBkhan

    Hi Haris,
I tested the same scenario in my environment, and the link will display My Settings link instead of About Me link when there is more than one welcome menu in the page.
If you want to put the welcome menu at a custom place rather than in ribbon area, I recommend you remove the welcome menu in the ribbon area(suitebar) after putting the other welcome menu at the custom place.
    Thanks,
    Victoria

  • Add Right Side Column and Web Parts to custom Master page in SharePoint Online

    Hello everyone,
I hope this is a simple question, however I was fighting the issue it presents for a while. I am in the process of customizing SharePoint Online Look-and-feel with a new layout.
The site collection was created as a
Team Site before I got involved with the project, and populated with numerous sub-sites and pages. I activated required
publishing features, created html with corresponding styles and graphics, and used the Design Manager to convert the html file to the custom Master page. While SharePoint automatically assigned “ContentPlaceHolderMain” div area, I
also used default Oslo page as example to copy sections of the code for dynamic components (left column and navigation, recent items, the ribbon, etc.) from it and placed them in my new master page, pointed all CSS references to
my custom style sheets, etc. Everything works great, however I need to make one last addition -
my task is to make changes to display web parts such as Calendar and Recent Documents in the right column in the Master page.
My custom layout has a header, footer, main pan and two side columns. Most of the default master templates come with the LEFT column already embedded and populated with several placeholder
to serve dynamic content (PlaceHolderLeftNavBarTop, PlaceHolderQuickLaunchTop, PlaceHolderLeftNavBarDataSource, PlaceHolderLeftActions, so on).
My challenge is that I have the RIGHT side column as well, for which I don’t think the default placeholder exists. I need to add a small Calendar box and Recent Documents parts to it, so they
display across the entire site governed by this master page.
    The issue is –
even after activating Publishing features (enabled SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure under Site Collection Level, and SharePoint Server Publishing under the Site
Level), there is no Snippet feature (usually available under the generic Publishing Site); this customization of the Team Site allows using Designer and apply custom templates, themes, so on, just like you would under the Publishing collection, but not the
Snippet utility I could use as the solution to embed the web parts on the master page.
Recreating the entire site under Publishing Collection is not an option due to the directions I was given, I am to use this existing one, and need to see if
there is a workaround to either activate the Snippet feature or use another solution to display the web parts inside of the column in the Master page.
If the only solution is to use Web Part Zone, what are the steps to add it AND populate it with the abovementioned apps?
Can anyone suggest how to create a workaround and add this feature? The environment is role-based so both elements need to be dynamically rendered based on the user’s role and activities.
I am more of a front end designer than developer, so if any custom coding and set up required, please kindly provide some basic steps, if possible?..
I greatly appreciate any help and suggestions!
    Thank You!
    Jeff
    Jeff V.

Updating your Master Page to also include a right rail should be sraight forward enough with a new div or divs in your master page and then the proper styles to make room for this column as well as position the column.
I have not seen why you cannot find the snippet gallery link when previewing a HTML Master Page in the browser. Have you tried loading the snippet gallery by its url? As an example, for my tenant on SPO, I can load the Snippet Gallery for the olso.master
    with the following url:
    https://pixelmill.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/ComponentConfigureControls.aspx?ComponentName=TopNavigationNoFlyoutWithStartNode&Url=%2F_catalogs%2Fmasterpage%2Foslo.master
Change the domain to match yours as well as update the "Url" querystring var to point to your master page. See if that loads the snippet gallery.

  • How to give a relative path from a button in the master page header?

so I have this code in the header of my Master page in RoboHelp:
    <input type="image" value="View graphics legend"
    onclick="window.location.href='Graphics_legend.htm'"
    src="Images\graphic legend.png" name="image1"
    title="View graphics legend" style="width: 118px; height: 21px;" />
i need to call the 'Graphics_legend.htm' file which is sitting in the root folder. When i try this it works fine for the html file which are in the root folder as well, but anything with is in a sub directory , the button stops working.
It might be just to add a realtive path ,but i am failing to understand how to make a relative path for 'Graphics_legend.htm' ,.. ?

    Hi there
Relative paths are relatively simple once you get the hang of them.
For example, if you want to refer to something that is one folder above where you are, you prefix things with ../
The ../ is HTML shorthand meaning one folder level above where I am. If you wish to go two folder levels up, ../../
If you need to drop into a folder that is at the same level as where you are, ../FolderName
From what you have written it would seem that RoboHelp isn't seeing your code and properly calculating the path. That's really not too surprising because you are using the Button element.
If you are using CSS and linking to a style sheet you likely have a simple way to calculate what the relative path should be. Just examine the source code of the topic and note what prefixes the CSS file name. Assuming your CSS is in the project root (and it should be) then you could use the same prefix.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick
