Materalized View takes FOREVER TO TRUNCATE

We are on oracle 11g rac and doing a complete refresh on a materialized view with 38 million records. For some reason, the truncate takes too long. its been nearly 4 hours. below is what i am seeing in v$sql view. Any ideas would be helpful. Also, we tried dropping the materalized view and it was way faster than refreshing. Any ideas?

  • Opening New View take forever!

I just installed the latest Oracle Explorer for VS2005. I am trying to create views when I click the "New Relational View" it takes the application about 5 minutes to respond with the creation screen. If I try to edit an existing view the IDE crashes. I am accessing a remote DB hosted by Oracle, we have twin T1 lines for the connection. I have tried changing from a URL to an IP address in the TNS name file, however nothing seems to help. Why is it so slow? Is there something else besides SQL*Plus I can use to create these View, it is unusable!

    Hi,
Generally for troubleshooting issues like this you'd want to enable sqlnet tracing with timestamp on to try to narrow down what exact operation is running so slowly.
In addition, you'd probably want to post problems with Oracle Developer Tools in the appropriate forum for increased chance of assistance.

  • Quicktime X is incredibly slow and previews take forever to load

Quicktime takes forever to load an MKV (Perian installed), but also takes its sweet time with other longer vidoes. Finder Previews (off to the side in column view) take forever to load, with QTserver (I think that's the process) taking up huge cpu resources while doing so.
I want to love Quicktime, I really do. It looks great. But its performance is just utterly frustrating at times. I don't know what happened but I never had these problems with Quicktime 7.
Why the does Quicktime behave like this?

    http://arstechnica.com/apple/reviews/2009/08/mac-os-x-10-6.ars/6#qtkit
You don't have to use the X version of QuickTime on your Snow Leopard machine. You can use QuickTime Player 7.6.3 if you like.

hmm it could be defective, i have personally never had this problem, or known anyone that has, they usually load right away. It could be that your photos are to big, so they take a long time to load, or you have to many photos, other than that i have no idea

It's likely that your Library database has been damaged in all the crashing.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Photo Albums Take FOREVER to View in iWeb and Internet

I have been waiting for the past 10 minutes for iWeb to bring up my family photo album for me to add photos.
This has been getting worse and worse as I post more family albums to our site.
It is now 15 minutes since I tried to open-edit-add an album to our family photo page
I could use Dreamweaver and not any issues...iWeb takes FOREVER!
    Anyone know why?
after 20 minutes finally got my iWeb page to add and edit..

I checked the albums page and it has 171 files it needs to load. Most of them are the frame elements around each album photo. It took about 13 seconds for that page to load for me. So, as it has already been pointed out by Roddy and ls1z28chris, it's a combination of the page too large and the connection speed slow.
Go to this web site, select a server near you and check your connection speed: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
Using the NYC server I get 13335 kbps download. With the Washington, DC server it's 16,837.
    Another test site is: http://speedtest.net/
My speed with the Boston, MA server was
You might want to consider breaking down that album page into 3 or 4 pages. Removing the frames around the albums will help also.

  • HT2905 My entire song list duplicated for some reason  Do i have to delete individually (take forever), or is there a way to do it all at once?

My entire song list duplicated for some reason. Do I have to delete songs individually (take forever), or is there a way to do it all at once?

I had the same problem.  Had at least 3 of each song in my library...  Here's how I fixed it.
Go on iTunes to your library
Hit Shift and click on View
Scroll down to "show exact duplicate items"
the list will give you all your duplicated songs
Click at the top of the "date added" Column to sort by date added.
Even if it all happened the same day it will group your whole library by date and time added.
    The time is the key...
You can start at the begining of you list and scroll to the last song that was added that day and time frame.
Everything after your last song is duplicates.
Highlight the first song hold down shift and scroll down to the last song...
Once they are all highlighted you can hit delete and send them all to the recycle bin.
It took me a while to figure it out but it works

  • Quicktime videos take forever to load on my system

Is it me alone, or does anyone have the same problem? I have a excellent system, and nothing takes forever to load on it, only Quicktime videos. The only reason why I use quicktime on my XP machine is to watch the videos that are downloaded from my Kodak camera memory card since the camera saves its video files as quicktime videos, but it takes forever for the video files to load after I have downloaded them and saved them into a folder on my system. When I want to go back and view the videos, the folder freezes until all the videos, even if it is only one video in the folder loads. Why is that? Other video files load immediatley from avi, wmv,to divx, etc.
    Does anybody have a solution?

I have 15000 photos in my 1Phooto library in 58 events. I have also made 27 slide shows from some of these events. When opening iPhoto, the photoscome up slmost instantly but the side bar seems to take forever to come up.  Is there s limit to the amount of photos yu can have or to the amount if items in the side bar?

Try this basic troubleshooting technique:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
    3 - reboot
4 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • Problem with Top N Query when no rows returned (takes forever)

I have a table with 100 Million rows and I want to get the latest N records using:
    SELECT * FROM
(SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE columnA= 'ABC' ORDER BY TIME DESC)
    WHERE rownum <= N;
This works fine and is very fast when there are rows with columnA= 'ABC' but when there are no rows with columnA= 'ABC' the query takes forever.
The strange things is that the inner query returns immediately when run on it's own when no rows with columnA= 'ABC' exist e.g.
SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE columnA= 'ABC' ORDER BY TIME DESC
So why does it take for ever for to run:
    SELECT * FROM (no rows inner query) WHERE rownum <= N;
    I have also tried using:
    SELECT * FROM
(SELECT columnA, rank() over(ORDER BY TIME DESC) time_rank
    FROM tablename WHERE columnA='ABC')
    WHERE time_rank <= N;
which returns instantly when there are now rows but takes much longer than the first query when there are rows.

I cannot see a real difference:With histogram we can see a difference on the elapse when no row returned and into explain plan.

  • Query takes forever to execute

    This query executes forever:
    select count(*)
    from VIEW_DOCUMENT
    where exists
    select VIEW_DOCUMENT_ITEM.documentID
    from VIEW_DOCUMENT_ITEM
    where VIEW_DOCUMENT_ITEM.documentID=VIEW_DOCUMENT.documentID
    Here's what's inside VIEW_DOCUMENT_ITEM:
    select *
    from DOCUMENT_ITEM
    join VIEW_USER
If I replace "join VIEW_USER" with "join USER" the query executes normally in few seconds!
This makes no sense because here's what's in VIEW_USER:
    select * from USER
Does anybody know what are possible causes for this strange behaviour?

Actually my query is much more complex, this is simplified version.
In original query it's 100% not cartesian join.
Result of my query is 2710 and result of Sven's query is 2711.
My question is only why does joining a table work normally and why does joining a view "select * from table" take forever.
I can't see execution plan because my query never ends. I have to kill the Linux process.
Here is TKPROF output, I don't know what this stuff means:

  • Printing PDF Files takes forever

I'm new to the mac world, but love it. It takes forever to print pdf files on my iMac. I'm using an HP3050 Laserjet, plugged directly into the iMac. Never had this problem with the printer connected to my Vista Laptop.
I started to print a 2 page pdf 9 minutes ago and still have not gotten a pageout of the printer. PDF File is only 132 KB.

It was happening with preview and adobe pdf viewer. I tried an experiment, unplugged the usb cable and re-set the printer to its defaults.
That solved part of the problem. It now prints pdf's quickly, but any document, word, pdf etc that I try to print, the printer now beeps and prompts for a manual feed, press enter for confirmation. After pressing the enter button on the printer whatever file I'm trying to print comes out.
Okay, the printer thinks that you're feeding paper from the manual feed slot, not from the paper tray. When you select 'Print', the printer dialog box should come up. There are two basic styles for the printer dialog box:
1 basic, which has seven items in it: the printer ID pull-down menu, which allows you to select printers if you have more than one printer; in my case, I'd have Brother HL-2070N, Brother MFC-440CN, Adobe PDF 8.0, and a few other items on the list. It would also show the printer presets pull-down, the four print system buttons (PDF, Preview, Cancel and Print) and the dialog control triangle.
2 complete, which can be access from the basic dialog by clicking on the dialog control triangle. This will zoom out the dialog box to include the full array of options available for that printer. What options show depend on which printer you have, but one of them will be a pull-down menu which usually has the name of the app you're trying to print from. One of the items on that menu will be 'Print Feed' or something similar. Select that item. The dialog will zoom out and show you the various print feed options. It is probable that there will be a checkmark next to 'manual feed' or something similar. Select 'automatic' or 'tray #1' or similar. Print normally.
Once you have printed something with the correct settings the print system will remember the settings you want and will keep them until you change them. Just remember that if you change them, the system will remember the new settings until you change them back.
Plus, printing #10 envelopes no longer works correctly, the address information only partially prints and is un-readable.
That's almost certainly because it things that it's printing letter-size paper from the manual tray. One of the settings under 'Print Settings' or similar should allow you to select the size and type of paper; if you select #10 envelope, it will adjust accordingly. Note that unless you specify otherwise, if you select #10 envelope the system will usually automatically select the manual feed for you. It will go back to whatever feed setting had been made before printing envelopes once you select a different type of paper. (At least that's how it's worked in every printer I've used for quite some time now.)
I'm going to plug the printer back into my Vista Laptop and see if it goes back to normal.
It's not hardware-related, it's driver-related, so you should be able to print from Vista without a problem.
If you do have a problem, let us know 'cause then the problem is not a driver problem. And if it's not a driver problem you may yet get to buy a new printer, 'cause fixing printer hardware is usually more expensive than just tossing the printer and replacing it. I would charge you at least $50/hour plus parts to fix this kind of thing. You can get a new printer for under $100. You make the call.
Is there any kind of "terminal" command I can use to re-set how the Mac is dealing with the printer?
if you really want to see the guts of the print system, you can go to the CUPS pages on your system, but you really don't want to do that unless you absolutely have no choice. The CUPS pages, the Common UNIX Printing System pages, on your system are available if you launch your web browser (any web browser) and go to <http://127.0.0.1:631/printers>. There's a whole lot of info in there, but playing inside there is not for the faint of heart.

  • Why when downloading a rented movie off itunes it either takes forever or we are unable to watch it all together?

Why everytime I try and rent a movie off itunes on my apple TV it takes forever to download and sometimes it won't even play. Last night I waited over 2 hours for it to finish loading and it still hasn't. Very annoyed

    Hello Ellymascioli,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Troubleshooting playback performance
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3623
A sustained 8 Mbit/s or faster Internet connection is recommended for viewing 1080p high-definition movies and TV shows, 6 Mbit/s or faster is recommended for viewing 720p content, and 2.5 Mbit/s or faster for standard-definition content. Internet connection speeds may vary depending on your ISP and other factors.
If you continue to experience slow playback performance while connected to your local network via a wired (Ethernet) connection, consider contacting your Internet service provider (ISP) to increase the speed of your connection.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • Firefox takes forever to close

Firefox often takes forever to close. It doesn't hang or crash, because eventually it will close, but it may take 15 or 20 minutes. (At least it seems that way.) The problem seems more likely whenever:
    - I've had Firefox open for a long time,
    - I've opened a lot of tabs,
    - I've viewed videos.
I'm suspicious that the plugin-container.exe might be involved in this.
    Thanks!

Do either of you have the Zotero extension installed? If so, what happens if you use Tools->Add-ons to disable it? I'm seeing this behavior on a fleet of school computers and it goes away when I turn off Zotero.
