Material Repository design

Hi MDM experts,
Seek your help in the following matter please.
I am trying to design a customized matrial repository and have the following challenge based on the business requirement.
1. Have to link each material to its site's item number.
Background: Each site initiate material creation and starts with a site -item number to which they are familiar with.If there is a material/similar material  already available, the site number gets linked to that material.Therefor one material may have linked to several sites's item number.
I am trying to design one Qualified table to link all the sites with their respective item no related to a material.Challenge here is, there are about 2 million material record and an average 5 site items for each material makes the Qualified table size to 10 million. Is it going to work ?
Is the relationship table or lookup hierarchy is a better solution for the scenario?
How to make site-id and item number a group item and unique for the Qual table?
Thanks in advance for all your help
reo
Appreciate your suggestion

Can anybody send the material master pre-configured repository. (I think i dont have sufficient authorization to download them) i have tried the following path:
<b>"SAP delivers out of the box content for these repositories in SAP Market place.
http://service.sap.com/swdc
Entry by Application Group ->Entry by Application Group->
Support Packages and Patches->SAP NetWeaver->SAP MDM" SAP MDM 5.5-> Master Data Server->MDM BUSINESS CONTENT 5.5->#OS independent->MDMBC55004P_3-10003437.ZIP"</b>
But i am unable to see the SAP MDM itself with my marketplace id.
<b>If anybody having the preconfigured material master repository zip file please send it to below mentioned mail id

  • How to run Integration Repository Designer

    Hello,
I have installed NetWeaver 2004S SR2 ABAP+Java, Windows 2003 32-bit with MS SQL Server 2005. Did not install anything beyond that.
The goal for me is to create the connectivity between our own application and SAP NW with use of PI module.
Now, I'm trying to follow step-by-step guide "Step-By-Step Approach for Implementing XI" Scenarios(SAP on DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows) and at certain point they ask to open the Integration Repository Designer, which I cannot find on my system.
    Questions:
    1. Do I need to install anything beyond already installed components to get access to PI/XI design and runtime tools?
    2. If not, how can I run this Integration Repository Designer?
    Thanks,
    Maxim.

After running the transaction mentioned, I just get the Windows Explorer popped up with the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\Sap\SapWorkDir"
Those are the files in this folder:
    SAP_Cache_Sap\
    SAPHistorySAP.mdb
    SAPHistorySAP.ldb
    sapfewdll_01_0007_00_692_1716.err.trc
    errorlog.gui
No errors or any other messages in the SAP System window. Any suggestions?
Maybe I'm not good at terminology, but saying "...while installing XI/PI..." did you mean I need to install that separately from the installation I ran from the SAP Solution Manager disc, providing NW Kernel 7.0 as a part of that installation?
    Thanks,
    Maxim.

  • SRM and MDM Material repository

    Hello!
We'll implement MDM as a material repository which will consolidate materials info from different backend systems (SAP and non-SAP). We will also implement SRM 6.0, which will receive data about materials, product categories, etc. from MDM.
Has anyone worked with a similar landscape?

  • Difference between Material Repository and Product Repository

    Hi Guys,
Can you please explain the difference between the Product Repository and Material Repository.
    Thanks,
    Sandy.

    Hello,
The MDM Products repository is structured to maintain the "sell- side" of the organization, meaning these are the products that the organization sells.
The MDM Material repository, however, is structured to maintain the "buy- side" of the organization, meaning these are the raw materials that the organization buys in order to produce/ manufacture its products.
These differences are also seen in the schema -the data elements that are maintained for each repository.

  • Objects locked after crash in Integration Repository (Design)

    Hi there,
Unfortunately the integration repository (Design) crashed during an import of some IDOCS from a R3 system.
Now when I try to login again into the Integration Repository and do any changes in the software component, I get a warning telling me that the object Im trying to edit is currently beig edited by my own account.
How can I remove this object lock so I can continue working with this object? is there any admin tool from where I can release the locked objects or something like that?
    Thanks Rob.

    Hi Rob
I presume you use XI 2.0.
Execute transaction sm12 to release the locks.

  • OBIEE Best Practice Data Model/Repository Design for Objectives/Targets

    Hello World!
We are faced with a design question that has become somewhat difficult and we need some help. We want to be able to compare side-by-side actual measures with their corresponding objectives/targets. Sounds simple. But, our objectives are static (not able to be aggregated) with multi-dimensionality and multi-levels. We need some best practice tips on how to design our data model and repository properly so that we can see the objective/target for a measure regardless of the dimensions that are used in the criteria and regardless of the level.
    Here is some more details:
    Example of existing objective table.

    - Right now we have quarterly objectives set using 3 different dimensions. So, if an author were to add one or more (or zero) dimensions to their criteria for a given measure they could get back a different objective. They could add Dimension1 and get 99%. They could add Dimension1 and Dimension2 and get 98%. They could add all three dimensions and get 97%. They could add zero dimensions (highest grain) and get 99%. Using our existing structure if we were to add a new dimension to the mix the possible combinations would grow dramatically. (Not flexible)
    - We would like our final solution to be flexible enough so that we could view objectives with altogether different dimensions and possibly get different objectives.
    - We currently have 3 fact tables with 3+ conformed dimension tables and a few unique dimension tables.
Could anyone share a similar situation where you have implemented a data model structure with the proper repository joins to handle showing side-by-side objectives/targets where the objectives were static and could be displayed at differing levels with flexible dimensions as described?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi..yes this suggestion is nice...first configure the sensors(activity or variable) ..then configure the sensor action as a JMS Topic which will in turn insert the data into a DB..Or when u configure the sensor action as a DB..then the data goes to Oracle Reports schema..if there is any chance of altering the DB..i mean if there is any chance by changing config files so that the data doesnt go to that Reports schema and goes to a custom schema created by any User....i dont know if it can b done...my problem is wen i m configuring the jms Topic for sensor actions..i see blank data coming..for sm reason or the other the data is not getting posted ...i have used a esb ..a routing service based on the schema which i am monitoring...can any1 help?

  • Migration Repository DESIGNER 2000 (from 6 to 6i)

    Hi everybody,
I'd like to know where can I find the script 'migrate_repos_privs.sql'. The propose of this script is to migrato users from the old repository version to 6i.
I start with repository version 6 and I try to execute this script. The source of this script try to call 'jr_sys_privs.ins' package internally but it doesn't exist in old repository. The result obviously is an error 'pl/sql called not found'.
This is the fouth step (4/5) in the tutorial instructions. Next I'm going to push the 'migrate repository' button in the tool to complete the migrate process.
Thanks. (Please, send me copy of your answers to: [email protected] )
    Best regards:
    Richard.

    Hi,
The MIGRATE_REPOS_USERS.SQL script is generated when you run the the CKGENUSR.SQL script (step 12.1 of the insallation guide). In the box at the beginning of '12:Migration of subordinate users'it describes how when you run CKGENUSR.SQL it generates the MIGRATE_REPOS_USERS.SQL to your working directory.
check your working directory after running CKGENUSR.SQL you should find the script there.

  • About The Repository Design Approach

    Hi All,
I am working for a project on OBIEE in which this tool is used for Ad Hoc Reporting. I need to create a repository that should be generic one means i need to create a repository that i need to handover to the client.
This repository should be flexible enough so that they can create various reports based on their requirement .
I am not clear, is it possible to create a repository that will be a generic one? Can this be possible?
Can their is any approach to design that will be flexible and generic?

I think you can, because you can build in a lot of intelligence in the business and model layer.
My approach is always to make it first as generic as possible, and once I am ready with that I am going to look how to make it more flexible, so the end users can work better with answers.
    However, have a look on:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_bi/bi_ee_1013/bi_admin/biadmin.html
Here you can see how to make a repostitory, first they make the model (generic)
and after that they add columns like "profit month ago" so the end users have more options in answers (flexible)
I think the business model and mapping is very powerfull, but you must know how to use it ;)
So building a repository is not hard, but the challenge is in building a good repository!
    succes!

  • Equipment repository design pertaining to Class Overview

    Hi Experts,
I am preparing data model for Equipment repository and Equipment classification is a mandatory field to be maintained in MDM.
The issue is Equipment classification has numerous enties and under each entry their is 20-30 characteristic fields for that entry, for example Equipment Classification- Belt_Conveyor has 30 fields which are specific to this type of Equipment and so on and so forth.
I can model these in Taxonomy table with various nodes and specific attributes but question is is it worthwhile to have so many attributes andfields in MDM (approx 2000)
    Please help
    Regards
    Ravi

    Hi Ravi
Following parameters are considered while designing a taxonomy table in MDM-
    1. How many level of parent child categorisation exist? More number of levels and categories is difficult to manage.
    2. how many attributes on avg are linked to each category? How often the linkages can change and new attributes(characteristics) can be added?
    3. What is the avg number of Attribute Values per characteristics? Avoid more than 1000 values. In such cases they can be promoted as main table lookup or text fields.
You can refer to below best pratices on Taxonomy-

  • How can I install a Designer 6.0 pre-configured repository ?

    Hi:
I am trying to install Oracle Designer 6.0 to my client machine (Windows 2000) and server machine (Windows NT 4.0), what I did was:
[1]install Designer 6.0 client side on my client machine.
[2]install Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition (version 8.1.7) on the server machine.
[3]configured SQL*Net Client and NET8 on both client and server, and it works fine.
[4]install pre-configured repository using Oracle Designer 6.0 CD #2 (pre-configured repository),but it always gives me such info:
" You have not installed a local copy of Oracle8 Enterprise Edition, therefore, Oracle Designer and ODD D7O4 Preconfigured Repository can not be installed. Please re-install this product after the local
    database has been installed."
It seems strange, I did install 8i Enterprise Edition (I even installed Oracle8 Enterprise Edition) before repository, I should have
    a local database.
How should I do next ?

    Hi Zhu:
Now that you are trying to install Designer, your problem is easy to solve.
I think you should download Oracle Designer 6i Release 4 for Windows from http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/designer/software_index.htm and then do your install again.
The install and the server side setup maybe time consuming, but I am sure you can do it.
You may install Designer 6i Release 4 in the following steps:
(Before do these, uninstall your Designer 6.0 both from your client machine and Windows 2000 server using Oracle Installer)
Step 0: download Oracle Designer 6i Release 4 from OTN to your local directory, say c:\temp and unzip it to c:\temp\Designer6iR4. I will refer this directory as installation media. Make sure that you have equipped your server machine with at least 256MB memory. In my experience, 386MB is better and 512MB is recommended.
Step 1: make sure that one database was created in your installed Oracle 8i. If not, create a database at this step. The parameters of this database should be adjusted according the needs of Designer 6i. You will be told how to do this later.
Step 2: install Designer 6i R4 from the installation media to server machine. Pay attention at this step that you should "select to install both Designer and Repository." It is recommended that Designer should be installed to another new ORACLE_HOME. Don't install it to your Oracle database home. Say, to the ORACLE_HOME "DESDEV".
Some more words need to be said here, I think, about the ORACLE_HOME for Designer. Later if you install Oracle Developer into the same machine as Designer is installed to, both the Oracle Developer and Oracle Designer should be installed into the same ORACLE_HOME. So the name DESDEV stands for "DESigner and DEVeloper are both installed into the same Oracle home named DESDEV". This will be prompted to you just after the installation of Designer was finished.
Step 3: print out "Oracle Repository/Designer Installation Guideh from "Stat->Programs->Oracle Repository 6i Doc - DESDEV". I will refer this material as gManualh from here till the end of our talk.
Step 4: shutdown your database if it is running and then set the parameters to the correct values (required values) according to gCheck the settings in the Oracle initialization parameter fileh in the Manual, Chapter 2 Server-side installation, migration and upgrade.
Step 5: startup the database and then check the parameters. To do this, you need to login to database as user sys and then issue the command gshow parametersh. If all the parameters are correct you may go step 6. You may leave the database running.
Step 6: make sure that the database is running. If not, startup database here. Before proceed to install Designer 6i Server-side, the database should in running status.
Step 7: do the server-sidefs install of Designer 6i (that is, Repository) according to gChapter 2 Server-side installation, migration and upgradeh in Manual. In that part of manual, 17 steps of installation and setup Designer 6i server-side were mentioned. I am sure you can manage that with ease.
Step 8: install Designer 6i client-side into your client machine according to hChapter 1 Client-side installationh in Manual from the installation media.
By the way, I should tell you how much time it takes to accomplish all of these steps IF things were went smoothly: it took about 6 hours for me to have all these steps done. And my machinefs specifications is:
    CPU 633MHz
    RAM 512MB
    Wish you good luck

  • MDM Data model design for Main table visa vis lookup table

    Hi ,
I would like to know whether the legal entities or Address table which are common for all MDM main tables like Customer ,Vendor,Material,Business Partner etc can also become a main table when their attributes are around 30-40 range.
Is it a sound design approach to make Company table with about 50 attributes and say address table with 20 attributes as Main table and replicate a small company-id table with 2 or 3 attributes to link to the main table(company)? This will ensure replicating that small table(company-id) to all other Main tables(customer,vendor,......) instead of replicating that big company table as lookup for all main tables?
Thanks in advance for any idea or feasibility comments.
    -reo

    Hi, Deepak
    >>> - How can I populate the data in the lookup table at the same time when I am populating the main table ? I have only the XML's that correspond to the main table . I don't have seperate data for the lookup tables .
I don't think you can populate both main table and all fields of lookup tables at the same time, i.e. using same map. You can consider 2 options to upload all information you have:
    1) If your XML file contains data you would like to upload to lookup tables, you can upload it to MDM lookup tables with several maps using same XML and choosing different sections of that XML corresponding to different MDM lookup tables.
    2) Also you can upload main table simultaneously with lookup table entries (using same map), but in this case new lookup table entries will only contain display field values that you mapped. To do this you should use 'Add' value mapping functionality for fields that you mapped to lookup tables.
    >>>- Can I use the standard maps available for import in the business content of material repository in MDM ?
    1) In case you have material master repository delivered by SAP and you use XML files which structure corresponds to SAP predelivered XSD schemas then you can use these maps undoubtedly.
    2) If your repository is based on SAP predelivered, but you changed it ,you should adjust these maps due to differences in repository structure and  XML files structure.
    3) If you created your repository from scratch you should consider option of making your own import maps.

  • Email notification mail not working in case of customer repository

    Hi Experts,
We have the system MDM 7.1 SP06, we are not able to get the email notification for customer repository. For other repositories like material & vendor mails are working fine. I Have checked the following steps.
    1) Added notification step to the workflow between processes.
    2) Verified the email addresses of the workflow owner and the receiver of the notification.
    3) Verified that the mds.ini has the "MailServer=" setup to the right smtp.
I have check in workflow history, it is showing notify step but not showing details of mail like send to, mail body. While in case of material repository, it was showing complete details like send to, mail body & all.
Previously mails for customers were working fine. Kindly suggest the solution.
    Regards,
    Gaurang

    Hi Gaurang,
Are the time parameter same for all the repositories?
Create a dummy user and dummy workflow, and try to send mail from that workflow.
If this works with some id then check with the Admin id which you are using.
This way you can eliminate the possibility of id not working. Also it will tell you that user is corrupt or not.
Check for log and traces, kindly provide with the post here.
    Thanks,

  • Material vs. Products and Business Partner vs. Customer and Vendor

    Hi,
Just wondering if there's any SAP recommendation for using 'Products' repository vs. Material repository. Similarly, is there any SAP recommendation for using 'Business Partner' repository vs. Customer and Vendor repositories.
Can anyone would like to shed some light on what is recommended with pros and cons? Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Mins,
you can group the repositories in the following way:
    Group 1
    - Material
    - Vendor
    - Customer
    Group 2
    - Product
    - Business Partner
Repositories of Group 1 are related to the corresponding R/3 (ERP) data models. The repositories cover a large part of the R/3 fields and can be used to integrate your R/3 systems with MDM as they contain import and syndication maps for R/3.
Repositories of Group 2 are related to the common CRM and SRM data model. Those repositories have been developed with the goal to integrate CRM, SRM and R/3 with MDM. Unfortunately the structure of the Group 1 repositories was not capable to fullfill this. Group 2 repositories contain import and syndication maps to all remote systems (CRM, SRM, R/3). But those repositories are not as large as the Group 1 as the first task of the Group 2 repositories was the data consolidation scenario.
There is no general recommendation which repository to use. It depends on the project setup on customer side:
    - If you want to use MDM for R/3 only, it makes sense to use Group 1
    - If you want to use MDM for R/3 only, but you want to consolidate your customers and vendors in one single repository, you should use the Business Partner Repository because this one can hold both object types
    - If you want to use MDM for CRM and SRM, you should use Group 2
So a general recommendation could be to check the Master Data setup and landscape within your project and then to choose the corresponding repository.
    Kind regards
    Michael
