Mavericks mail keeps resending old Gmail notifications

I've installed the new update as of this morning, but I'm getting mail notifications for mail messages that are several years old in my Gmail. It looks like it is running through all 20,000 messages that I have already viewed How do I get it to stop?  It seems to keep doing the same thing several times a day.

I found my answer to this same question here and it worked for me: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23729408#23729408
Paul7 says: Navigate your browser to Gmail and disable the "Important" mailbox/lavel by going to Settings -> Labels -> uncheck "Show in IMAP" for the  "Important" System Label.

My itouch mail keeps loading old emails and displaying them as unread.  If I delete them, 50 more load....old ones that I have long since read and discarded.  Any suggestions.  It appears to be only 1 of my email accounts that does this.  I have deleted the account and resynced to get it back in use, but 50 old emails come up as if they are new unread ones.  Thanks for any help.

I am having the same issue and it started the same day.  My other mac does it as well but has been an issue for two years.  I just gave up on it and stopped using email from that mac.  I just spend 4 days trouble shooting ti myself when i had time and now spent 2 hours with apple on a chat and screen share and they couldnt solve it either.

  • Why does Mail keep reloading old emails into my inbox as if they are new?

Ill be doing homework at like 2-3am and all of the sudden Mail will say I have 157 new emails in my inbox. When I go look at them, it just reloads all the messages in my gmail inbox into my Mail inbox. To prevent it from happening I have to keep moving my gmail messages into folders. Is there anyway to fix this?? Maybe it is the way I have it set up??? Someone please help, it happens like 3 times a week at least and is super annoying!!!

    Travis,
You have posted in the Mail & AB forum for Leopard, and not Snow Leopard, and the system info posting below any of your responses reports 10.5.6 -- you should correct the latter.
For some using Snow Leopard and using Time Machine, this has been leading edge issue, and one that hopefully will be dealt with by the next update to SL. What seems to happen with Mail 4.x and use of Time Machine, is that the file that in normal use prevents duplicate downloads gets restored to an old version, and thus Mail does not know it has downloaded the messages previously. Purging the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3 file will cure briefly (after enduring one more download of all messages on the server, but the problem will return because of Time Machine. Are you using Time Machine?
As for housekeeping, if you quit Mail, and then shut down your laptop (or maybe even if only putting it to sleep by closing the lid), then Mail housekeeping tasks, which include keeping the index up-to-date do not get finished, and then can be problems. Now that I know you are using Snow Leopard, I am less suspicious of that.

  • Mail keeps resending emails

Ok, this will be a little hard to explain but my mac mail will take old emails that I have already sent and resend them. One person the other day told me she got my same email 3 times.
It will also take emails that were sent to me, put them in my outbox and send them, which really confuses me because I am not sure how they are being resent to me from my own email. However, if I delete the message that is in my outbox it deletes it from my sent/recieved folders. I also have multiple email addresses so this is not just my servers fault.
    Can anyone help?

This problem is caused by some index corruption (which in turn might be caused by some filesystem corruption) that makes messages to randomly appear in a mailbox different from where they’re supposed to be. If that mailbox happens to be Outbox, Mail thinks the messages are waiting to be sent and dutifully proceeds to try to send them.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Fake mail appearing in every gmail notification widget

I don't know what happened or how, and searching online and here in the forums has yielded no solutions or even examples of others experiencing the same problem. Here's the story:
I use GotMailG in dashboard to check my mail, as I have multiple gmail addressed, both at gmail.com and via google apps. It would be a nightmare to try to check email across so many different addresses if I had to log in and out in the browser, so dashboard is perfect for me. (I used to use a different widget until it stopped working.)
This morning, when I first booted up everything was fine. Then, about an hour or so later, I went to dashboard and it was showing 1 email for every account. VERY unusual, so I clicked one to check and there was no new email at all. Clicked another, same story. Every email address now shows 1 new email when there is nothing there, and to make matters worse if I DO have a new email it does not go up to 2.
I searched for other widgets and found g4me, which yields the same result, BUT I can see a snippet of the fake email. It's an ad for Roxio Toast 10 Pro, from [email protected] Sounds like a spam email address to me, but ***, I can't get rid of it because it doesn't exist on the server?!?
I also tried the Google Notifier, which seems to work fine, so the problem must be originating on my machine, not on the gmail servers. I found instructions for running multiple copies of the Google Notifier, but it looks complicated, especially when I have to do it for 6 different emails.
Has anyone seen this problem on their own machine? I am at a loss for what to do.

    I think I've found a fix.
I didn't test it thoroughly but at a first glance mail notifications seem to be working correctly again.

Basically, log in to gmail, and change in the settings for labels the following. Uncheck "show in IMAP" for  starred and important.

  • Mail keeps retrieving old messages

I was wondering if there is a way to set up mail where it stops getting old messages. I am trying to clear up my mailbox but every time I do it retrieves old messages from the server and then I have to clear those out. In addition, the old messages that are added come up as unread so my unread message number indicator on the icon is always high. I want to be able to have a lot of messages in my inbox but I just wish it would stop getting old messages unless i tell it to. Does anyone else have troubles with this?

    Just a curiosity...
POP3 and imap have implemented a 'last' feature. This is a value that represents the last message that the client (iPad mail) has seen from that server.
Sometimes the versions are funky and this 'last' is not implemented or not compatible.
Since this is an old feature (5 years as I remember) most sendmail servers support it. But, well versions and opinions being as they are some people don't use industry standard products and muck up features.
THis isnt all that helpful in solving the issue. But may be useful in diagnosing it.

  • Mail Keeps Redownloading Old Emails Whenever I switch Wireless Networks

    Hey Everyone,
I am experiencing some technical difficulties with Apple Mail.
I have configured Mail to download all emails from my online Yahoo account using the configuration settings from Yahoo.
When I am using my wireless network at home, the client downloads all my NEW mail as expected.
However, whenever I connect to a different network, say at the office or at university, or even in a foreign country, Mail downloads ALL the emails in my Yahoo mailbox again.
Instead of simply downloading NEW mail messages like it is supposed to, whenever I connect to a different network, ALL my emails (both old and new) are redownloaded from the server.
Once I return back home again to my usual wireless network, it will once again download ALL the mail, both old and new, again. Until I switch to another network, it will work fine.
This is a terrible inconvenience, as I store thousands of emails online, and thus have to wait for about 45 minutes for mail to finish downloading all of the emails before I can check my new mail.
Any assistance with this matter is most appreciated.
    I am using OS X 10.4.7 and Mail 2.1 (752/752.2) on an iBook G4.

    You're welcome.
Any other means through which I can solve this?
None that I know of in your case. Actually, some ISP's are clueless enough to tell users that the cause of the problem is that mail isn't being removed from the server. And some users are clueless enough to be happy "realizing" what the problem was and how easy it is to "solve" it -- see duplicated emails, for example.

  • Update an email address in Address Book but Mail Keeps seeing old addresses

    Hi,
Trying to figure out why I update an email address in Address Book but when I go to email this person 2 of their old email addresses still show up in the list. I thought Mail accessed Address Book only? I can't find a update sync or anything...any help?
    Txs

I went to the window menu-previous recipients and deleted obsolete addresses. When I address an email to one of the people where I deleted an old address, it still comes up. I quit Mail and reopened it thinking that it needed to do that before it worked, but that didn't do it. When I open the previous recipients list, the email addresses that I deleted are gone so there's no way to delete them again. Is there another way to do this? The addresses have also been deleted from my address book, so it's not getting them from there.

  • Mavericks Mail App and Gmail folders

I have installed Mavericks on my MBA.  Now in the mail app, when I drag messages from the inbox to a gmail folder, they leave the inbox.  But if I click off of the inbox and then click back on it - they reappear in the inbox.
    Anyone else having this problem?

This is one of the largest bugs in Mavericks’ Mail app, which affects Gmail accounts and Google Apps email accounts. This used to work just fine in previous versions of OS X, so it is a brand new problem in Mavericks:
Mail can’t delete messages from the Inbox unless Google’s “All Mail” folder is visible in Apple Mail. If you try to delete a message from the inbox, the message only disappears temporarily, then reappears moments later. It seems like Apple Mail never removes the “Inbox” label from the deleted messages, so the messages just keep reappearing back in the Inbox over & over again.
The workaround is not a desirable one: It requires the user to make Google's “All Mail” folder visible to IMAP clients (via Gmail's "Settings>Labels” page). However, this workaround is not desirable because of 2 bigger problems:
    (1) Making the “All Mail” folder visible in Apple Mail will suddenly make dozens of gigabytes of emails start taking up valuable hard drive space, because every single email that has ever been archived on Gmail/Google Apps will suddenly be written to the Mac’s hard drive. This can be a real problem on a machine with a small hard drive, such as the MacBook Air. Hiding the “All Mail” folder prevents these messages from taking up valuable hard drive space.  Not to mention that all of these messages are DUPLICATES OF MESSAGES THAT ALREADY APPEAR in other IMAP folders, so showing the "All Mail" folder in Mail is absolutely pointless.
    (2) Whenever the “All Mail” folder is visible, every new message that comes into the “inbox" also shows up as a new message in the “All Mail” folder as well, so new messages appear like they are coming in twice. Also, users are forced to mark their messages as “read" in two locations: the “Inbox" AND the “All Mail” folder.
The ideal solution would be for Mail to operate how it used to operate: Users should be able to delete messages from the Inbox, without having the “All Mail” folder visible in Apple Mail.
Please report this bug to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback and hopefully they will fix it in a software update soon!

  • Resending old texts

My iPhone keeps resending old texts to friends. Is there a way I can get rid of this problem?

Is this just when you reboot or when you hard reset? I had this happen when I hard reset and restored my messages I had this happened because I had a unsent message saved in backup and it would send on restore of the message..   Check under the account that keep sending it and see if there is a number on the + icon in right corner, if so click it and delete wgatever is there by clicking - icon to delete.

  • Keep on getting double notification  from my default mail app, and gmail app, how do i make google my primary one?

keep on getting double notification  from my default mail app, and gmail app, how do i make google my primary one? so that i dont have to get doulbe notifications  on both apps

This is probably not the answer to all your questions, but I am sure it answers some.
Unlike Word and InDesign, FrameMaker's anchored frames, which hold graphics, "hang" from their insertion points, typically at the end of the paragraph. An anchored frame that follows a paragraph is set to be below the line, the line being the last line in the paragraph. If you turn on View > Text Symbols, you will see a marker that indicates the point from which the anchored frame is hanging.
If the anchored frame is taller than the available space, it is moved to the next page ALONG with that last line. If the paragraph style/tag has a widow/orphan lines number that is more than 1, then that number of lines are also moved to the next page, because the paragraph tag says to keep that many together, EVEN if there is space at the bottom of the previous page.
So, you can set the widow/orphan lines number smaller OR as you have done put a blank line before the anchored frame, which now holds the marker for the anchored frame, and set its font size to 2 pt (the lowest FrameMaker allows) and its line height to zero. This is the standard workaround UNLESS you use the line above the anchored frame as the title/caption of a figure, which is also a typical way of dealing with FrameMaker's ways.
To my knowledge, one cannot change the default of the checked cropped box. Maybe others know of some way to change this.
There is no page break in FrameMaker, hence there is no symbol for it. In the paragraph designer for the paragraph, you set to Start of the paragraph to Top of page. Top of page is FrameMaker's equivalent to a page break. To "remove" a page break, set the Start of the paragraph to Anywhere.
Since you are new to FrameMaker, I suggest reading throught the User Manual that comes with FrameMaker. You will likely find the answers to most of your questions there.
    Hope this helps,
    Van

  • How do I search old Gmail in Lion Mail...?

In Snow Leopard, I have three Gmail accounts feeding into Mail. When reading my mail, I could just hit delete and it would remove the item from my inbox, but keep it archived automatically. This would allow me to search all my messages, which I do a lot. Now that I have upgraded my iMac and moved to Lion, all of my old messages in Gmail are not included in my search results. I know I need to figure out the Smart mailboxes, but what about the past five years worth of email? I can't go through and catalog all of those messages that were accessible just yesterday. Any ideas?

  • Mavericks mail gmail move to All Mail

Since the upgrade to Mavericks, the backspace button moves gmail IMAP messages to Trash, and not All Mail like it used to.
How can I go back to the old behaviour... I want to archive my mail with the backspace key, not delete it.
Crazy crazy silent change in behaviour with very bad UX.

I wish I could say I'm as shocked as you. I switched to using Apple computers a couple of years ago because of the build quality and the fact that if nothing else the OS at least compares favourably to the competition.
However, the thing that made me hold off on this for so long was their infamous insistence on rail-roading users through unpopular, inconsistent or just plain awful UX choices. There's a reason that nearly every official Apple-made App on the OS X and iOS App Stores has about two stars, and thousands of one star reviews.
Switching to a third party mail app, at least until this is resolved (presumably as a much-touted "new feature" in 10.10).
edit: Have tested kakgungor's plugin and it works perfectly, definitely worth it for anyone who still wants to use Mail.
