Max download speed decreased on my line.
Since the recent maintenance that BT made on their broadband service (on the weekend just gone I beleive) to "improve their broadband service" my ADSL line status downstream now reads 4,544 kpbs (capped at 0.2mbps on speed tests) When it has always been at 14,000kpbs+ since I had the line installed with no problems until this. I am a BT unlimeted customer (for a over a year with the same line and am paying my full bill for speeds that are currently only a fraction of what they have always been! I can no longer stream HD videos on the web or even watch anything on my BT vision box. Its like I'm recieving an option 1 service while paying for a option 3 service.
I called up the techys and had a 20 minute conversation which resulted in nothing except "wait 4 hours then turn off your router" as well as being told to remove my own socket cover from the wall ( I shouldnt have to do this!). I'm thoroughlly annoyed as I have jsut returned home after a night shift and have nothing to do because of the utterly abissimal speeds im getting.
Is there anyone here that can try and calrify what the problem might be please? or just tell me that my suspicions are right and BT has ruined my line suring maintenace.
Here is my ADSL line status from my router settings (that when referenced to techys seem to think I'm making stuff up...) http://screensnapr.com/v/R8SWBX.png
welcome to the forum
connecting to the test socket is a way to make sure your router has the best connection to the exchange and also eliminates any noise on your line from your extension wiring
looking at your stats your connection time is <24hrs is that due to the router resetting or you resetting trying to get speed backl?
I think there have been numerous disconnections in a short space of time and you are now in a banded profile (nothing to do with ip profile) and if you just remain connected 24/7 for 3+ days the banding should release automatically and your connection speed will return
if you get 3+ days on your connection time and speed is still 4544 then contact the mods to get you out the banded profile http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951

Download speeds awful on 4mb line
Please can someone hear this out because it's driving me mad. I have two Macs, iMac G5 and iBook. I alos have a, dare I say it, a PC laptop. I am connected to the internet with Telewest Broadband (blueyonder) on a 4mb line. My download speeds on the Macs is around 90KB sec - yet on the PC I get around 400KB sec! I have tested this out by plugging each machine directly into the modem. Tech support at blueyonder is unhelpful and claims it's the mac's fault. Does anyone have any suggestions because I can't even stream the smallest quicktime movie trailer smoothly anymore. I have no other apps running when tested and even turned the firewall off. If one mac was slow then I would at least have something to go on but both are the same. I downloaded the same files from their download test site gamefiles.blueyonder.co.uk as they instructed. But I was talking to a technician who asked what Firefox was when I told him one of the browsers I was trying. Incidentally the speeds were the same for Safari, Firefox and Camino. Please can someone suggest something... many thanks
Thanks for that link. And well well well, there was my new motorola listed as the one I shouldn't have. So anyway, I got on the phone to Telewest and they said - 'oh, you are the first person to say anything'. They have agreed to swap it with another model - so hopefully things will improve. Interesting though that they were not aware of any issues.
Thank you for a speedy response - faster than my download speed! -
My download speed - Problem or just this slow?
Well I've always had bad download speeds, guessing because of my area and such, but they seem to have gotten worse lately. My max download speeds used to be around 120kb/sec but now I'm lucky if they even reach 60kb/sec ( not in peak times )
Now I'm not exactly networking savvy, but I did that BT speed test and the results are:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 413 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-500 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :1248 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)

Go to Solution.Because you accidently disconnected it, you'll need to remain connected for 3 -5 days (which shouldn't be long now) and allow the profile to rise, I dont think it will rise, but it may just nudge the system and may work...
Alternatively you could contact the mods, and ask for an SNR reset which should give your sync speed a boost and in turn give the system a kick up the backside and tell it to get its ass in gear . You can contact the mods using this link http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951 .

Wireless Router Dropping download speeds
I have a WRT310N router. Ever since upgrading to Snow Leopard, my wireless download speeds decrease the further I get away from the machine. While my signal indicator is full strength, my speed drops from 16mbps download to just around 1-2mbps. I've upgraded to the latest firmware, turned off any potentially conflicting wireless devices (baby monitor, Wii, etc) and nothing seems to effect. Interestingly, my upload speeds remain uneffected.
Any ideas?Did you reset the router after upgrading the router's firmware..If not then, reset the router and reconfigure it from the scratch.

My Apple ID don't sign in sometimes, and my app store download speed is very low
I recently upgraded my iOS to 7.0.4 and I am trying to download app from appstore. I had no problem in first 2-3 days but then my download speed decreased and I couldn't sign in properly to my apple ID. Now its all off and I cant sign in anymore.
I have no problem when I use my PC to sign in to Apple ID but I can not sign in through my IPAD 2.Ok let me summazite my case :
In Office via wifi or enernet
1. My account failed to login
2. The other family account no issue
In Office via hotspot from my iPhone using 3G
1. all accounts are working
At Home either wifi or 3G - No issue at all
I called Apple in Hong Kong, they said there are many users reporting the same problem, and they are investigating. Suggested me to reset the router and changing password, both do not solve . -
Download Speed 200K!!!
Hi- apologies if this is all too familiar, but I can only get a max download speed of 0.2MB, the Indian call centre has been worse than useless, my IT savvy pal thinks it has to be a fault outside the house, I've heard that getting an engineer out is worse than pulling teeth, can anyone recommend the best way to go about it please? Thanks.

Very slow download speed though modem line rate no...
Hi
I recently noticed (today, 31st December) that our download speed had dropped very low, to approx 0.5Mbps. The upload speed is normal, approx 1Mbps. The modem line rate is however normal (8Mbps dowm, 1Mbps up). I have checked the download speed using http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/. I am at postcode SK237FN and have had consistently reliable download speeds for several years, 5-7Mbps.
Please help!
I already tried rebooting my router but this has not improved matters.
Thanks...

Stuck at max 0.5mbs download speed
For the past 2 weeks I have been unable to wxceed 0.5mbs download when for many years I had speeds ranging between 4mbs and 7mbs.
An engineer hsa been recently and tested the line all the way back to the exchange - OK
To eliminate internal problems I have tried the router directly into the test switch of the master socket - still 0.5.
I have just run speedtester and was concerned at the result:

IStat showning download speed, hd space decreasing while no download is shown
I noticed a download speed through my iStat Menus while working on my Mac Pro OSX 10.9 . I got info for my os hd. after checking several times, the available drive space kept decreasing. I could find no files being downloaded, or open downloads. The only way to bring the download speed indicator back to 0 was to turn of my wifi and unplug my network cable. After doing that, my free disc space returned to the original figure. What can be going on here?
However, if you think it's wrong here are some suggestions that may help as wifi problems seem to crop up a lot on here and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a 'one fix' solution.
However, sometimes any one of the following can help although, unfortunately, not always. - in no particular order:
Check wifi security - if it's WEP change it to WPA or WPA2 (preferably, as it's more secure)
Change the wifi channel on the router
Create a new Network Location: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5289
Reboot the router

My macbook internet download speed is extremely slow. I have tried 2 other computers, another mac and windows and the download speed is over 10mb but with this macbook pro it is less than 1mb. What is causing this and how to fix?
To find out how much space you have & what is left, open up Disk Utility/Machintosh HD/First Aid. The info will be at the bottom of the window.
Sluggish Finder - Bunch of icons on your desktop? An overcrowded desktop slows down your Mac.
Get rid of needless Finder calculations - Open a window in Finder/View/Show View Options: ensure "Calculate All Sizes" option is unchecked.
Internet related - It's likely that your broadband connection is the bottleneck. You can check your speed on http://www.speedtest.net to see how fast your connection is. If your web browser specifically performs slowly, quit and relaunch it.
If browser remains sluggish, empty its cache.
Safari/Empty Cache
Firefox/Preferences - select the Network tab of the Advanced preferences and click the "Clear Now" button in the "Offline Storage" area.
Application related - Launch "Activity Monitor" - Applications/Utilities - click the CPU heading and see what float to the top. If an application takes up a large chunk of CPU and won't let it go, it could be dragging down your Mac's performance. Quit it by clicking the Quit Process button at the top of the Activity Monitor window.
Too little ram - max out your ram.

AirDisk speed (max-upload:3MB/s, max-download:5.7MB/s)
I have setup my AEBS with external USB disk (WD Essential, 512GB). The installation and setup were very easy and I have no problems with connections from either Windows XP or OSX. And so far (I have it about a week now), everything works flawlessly and I have port mapping (NAT) set up for two different machines...
But, the download/upload speeds from/to USB drive seem low to me:
- Maximum upload speed to the external USB drive: 3MB/s (usually around 2.5MB/s)
- Maximum download speed from the external USB drive: 5.7MB/s
Did any of you guys achieve a greater speed, or is this normal?
PS: I have my AEBS setup for connection of both types (g and n)Ok, some guy reported very nice speeds with AEBS:

Not sure what everyone else is doing, but I'm getting 16MB/sec copying files off my Airport Extreme. Now, copying files TO the Airport Extreme is a different story, I have not gotten anything faster than 6MB/sec, with 3.5MB/sec being the average.
This is off a 750GB disk connected through a USB hub and my computer connected via Gigabit Ethernet. Wireless downstream speeds were about 7-9MB/sec, still a lot faster than others have reported.
I wonder what I'm doing different to have such good luck...

BEFW11S4 max wireless download speed?
What is the maximum download speed that can be achieved wirelessly with the BEFW11S4 router?
Thanks for the reply. When I hook my laptop up to the router with a wired connection, I'm getting 4.5 Mbit/s download speed. However, when I'm connected through the wireless connection I'm only getting 1.5 Mbit/s. After doing an internet search, it seems like there can be a lot of things causing this. Any ideas of what to try first to improve my wireless download speed? The hardware involved is the router mentioned, a Dell XPS M140 laptop running XP, and Qwest DSL.

Hello again, since Friday 10/10/14 my connection speeds have decreased, line seems to be reseting as my Bipac 7800 is showing an increase in download SNR and decrease in the connected speed, my normal speed is aprox 7000, the suprise is that the upload speed is showing an increase with a decrease in the SNR strange?. Attempts to lower the SNR using the Bipac 7800 have failed as the SNR is showing no change. Connected to Abbey wood exchange, simple things like refreshing tv and radio feeds in getiplayer took seconds now take 5-10 minutes.

Download Speed on PIX 515E is Pretty Slow
Hello, I have a PIX 515E set up between our office switch and our Comcast Business Router and the download speeds are not as fast as they should be. We are paying for 30 down 30 up but it's more like 10 down 30 up. I plugged in a computer directly into the router and got 30/30 so I know its not a comcast issue. I think it might be the low amount of memory on the PIX because its running at 109 out of a total 128mb. The PIX has a site-to-site VPN tunnel with a remote ASA 5520 firewall. The inside/outside ports are both auto/auto. The running config is only 161 lines.
Here's some information about the PIX 515E...
