Max rows to fetch

The max rows to fetch in Reports can only have a number field. When sending a parameter tru from forms how can i handle this option. I don't want to print the same number of records each time I request a report.

I hope this answers your question.
If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only), and the results you want from that data.
Explain how you get those results from that data.
Always say what version of Oracle you're using.Is my problem clear now ? Please helpSorry, the problem isn't clear.
Is my answer clear?

Point out where the query I posted is giving the wrong results. Say what the right results are in those places, and explain, step by step, how you derive the right right results from the sample data.

  • Can't View All Records if Max Row Count is null

    Hi,
    There are over 2500 records in a table and if Max Row Count is set to nothing in report attributes, the user is restricted to view only 500 records. And If Max Row Count is set more than 2500 then user is able to view all records but taking more time to display report.
    What to do to minimise process time and allow user to view all the records. ?
    Pagination Scheme : Row Ranges X to Y of Z (with pagination)
    Number of Rows : 100
    Number of Rows (Item) :     <empty>
    Max Row Count :           <empty>
    Thanks,
    Ven.

    Hi Ven,
    Apex restricts the number of rows returned by a report to 500 by default. You can change this by setting the Max Row Count. Apex does this so that the amount of data returned over the network to the browser is kept to a reasonable amount. The reason it is done this way is because a user in apex does not maintain a stateful connection to the database and as a result, rows returned from a query can not be cached in the database and fetched as required.
    From a usability point of view, I'm not sure why a user would want 2500+ rows returned to a screen. They would have to scroll and paginate to find anything of use and network bandwidth would get chewed up in the process. Why not provide the users with query options so that the number rows returned to the browser is restricted to a more manageable amount? If the users require a full hardcopy of the data then you can handle this with csv and pdf options.

  • APEX 3.1 Report pagination style limited by max row count

    I am working on an application using APEX 3.1 and am having trouble keeping the report pagination style as a select list when the max row count for the report is greater than 8000. If I use the select list as the pagination method, the first time that the first page is viewed is fine however all subsequent pages begin to use the "next" and "previous" link method of pagination. This is only occurring when the max row count is higher than 8000 and a select list is used for pagination.
    My question is: is the style of pagination, in Oracle APEX (3.1), limited by the potential number of rows returned for the report? If not, is this a bug with my version of Oracle APEX?

    The source of my problem was that the report referenced a page item for the number of rows. That select list referenced a named List of Values (LOV) that limited the number of rows that the report could display. I removed that reference and my problem disappeared!

    Hi,
    I am getting the error
    5200 : Error executing query. Exceed max row number 100000
    when I run the report on Financial Reporting. It gives the same error when run on Workspace.
    Have you guys encountered this error before? What are the best ways to tackle it? Help is much appreciated guys.

    Edit 1 - I tried to simplify the parameters but I still get the same error making me suspect that the issue is not the 100000 row issue.

  • Writing large xmltype data to UTL_FILE and setting max row per file

    Hey Gurus,
    I am trying to create a procedure (in Oracle 9i) that writes out xml data I have created into several xml files (file would probably be to large for one xml file output...I am doing this for 270,000 rows of data), setting the max rows to 1000 rows per file. I know one would have to create a looping contsruct to do this but I am just not adept enough in PL/SQL to figure it out at the moment.
    So essentially their would be some sort of loop construct and substr process that creates a file after looping through 1000 rows and then continues the count and creates a another file until all 270 xml files are created. Simple enough right...lol? Well I've tried doing this and haven't gotten anywhere. My pl/sql coding skills are too elementary I am guessing. I've only been doing this for about three months and could use the assistance of a more experienced person here.
    Here are the particulars...

  • OCI - Array-Fetch vs. One-row-per-fetch

    Hello guys,
    i have a question about the OCI and the possibilities about fetches.
    Is it possible to get only one row per fetch without setting the array size to 1?
    I have a third party application that shows this behaviour which i have rebuild in sqlplus.
    SQL> create table mytest (a number);
    SQL> begin
      2  for i in 1 .. 1500 loop
      3  insert into mytest values (i);
      4      end loop;
      5  end;
      6  /
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> set autotrace traceonly;
    -- Now with the default array size of 15 with sqlplus
    SQL> select * from mytest;
         118  consistent gets
         101  SQL*Net roundtrips to/from client
         1500  rows processed
    -- Now with a bigger array size (150)
    SQL> set arraysize 150
    SQL> select * from mytest;
         17  consistent gets
         11  SQL*Net roundtrips to/from client
         1500  rows processed
    -- Now the behaviour of the third party application
    SQL> set arraysize 1
    SQL> select * from mytest;
         757  consistent gets
         751  SQL*Net roundtrips to/from client
         1500  rows processed
    SQL> set arraysize 2
    SQL> select * from mytest;
         757  consistent gets
         751  SQL*Net roundtrips to/from client
         1500  rows processedThe third party application is a c program and i can not take a look at the code.
    So as you can see the consistent gets are the same with arraysize 1 and 2. The sql statement which is executed of the c-program is returning a huge amount of data and it seems like it is run with arraysize 1 or 2 or it is executing a different OCI call.
    So now is my question:
    Which methods does the OCI interface provide to recieve (fetch) data?
    - Is it only array fetching (like sqlplus do) or is it possible to return only one row per fetch with a specific call.
    I can speed up the query by setting the bigger array-size in sqlplus .. but i want to point the programers to the possibilities with the OCI.
    Thanks and Regards
    Stefan

    The following call in OCI can be used to control the fetched rows
    MAX_PREFETCH_ROWS is number of rows you want to fetch in one round trip.
    (void) OCIAttrSet((dvoid *)DBctx->stmthp, (ub4) OCI_HTYPE_STMT,
    (dvoid *)&MAX_PREFETCH_ROWS,(ub4)sizeof(MAX_PREFETCH_ROWS),(ub4) OCI_ATTR_PREFETCH_ROWS, DBctx->errhp);

  • Restricting users ability to modified Max Rows Retrieved

    Hi
    In Web Intelligence Rich Client how can I restrict a users ability to change the Max Rows Retrieved in a query.
    Currently we use Desktop Intelligence and restrict max rows retrieved in the universe, but I note this can be overwritten when by the user in Webi Rich Client at the query creation stage.

  • How to get a Sum of rows, when i use the property max. rows p. page ?

    Hi all.
    I've got a query and get a lot of rows (amounts) back.
    Now i want to have max. 21 rows per page.
    So, first i used the property "max. rows p. page"=21.
    But i want a have Sum-Field p.page too, which shows the sum of the amount p. page at a >fixed place (bottom, left) at the page.
    this didnt work well....
    Because when i have 30 rows, then the sum will shown at the second page (because the sum-field its after the repeating frame).
    ...Now i forgot the property and placed a function and two placeholder in the query like this:
    Function:
    :cp_row:=:cp_row +1;
    if (mod (:cp_row,21)=0)) then :CP_pagenr:=:CP_pagenr+1;
    Placeholders: cp_row, cp_pagenr
    Now i want to use :CP_pagenr to change the group - but Report Builder says: I cant... because placeholder are not allowed to change a group.
    So.. perhaps anyone can give me a hint how i can do this ?
    Thanks a lot...

  • How to set Max Rows when I search extended attribute in Admin Setting?

    When I search extended attributes in Admin Setting, the default max row is 500.
    Can I change the Max rows' Setting?

    We don't have a feature config for this in the core application, however you can adjust the 500 limit using a ready report.  Ready Reports is a solution pack that allows you to create saved searches in the form of reports.  You can get the ready reports solution pack in the latest extensibility pack.

  • HTML DB SQL Workshop Output to csv Max Row Count

    I am using HTML DB 1.6 with Oracle 10g 10.1.0.3.0 On SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.
    When I execute a query in SQL Workshop SQL Command Processor that returns a result set of greater than 5,000 rows and click the Output to Excel link, it exports NO MORE than 5,000 records.
    In working through Metalink with Oracle Tech Support, apparently for Reports in HTML DB there is a way to change the Max Row Count default limitation of 5,0000. However, this isn't in a report. It is simply from the query results page in SQL Workshop. Tech Support has been unable to idnetify ANYWHERE where I can change the default Max Row Count for simply outputting the results to csv format through the Output to Excel link.
    I am desperately looking for where I can globally change this default that will allow me to use SQL Worskshop to output greater than 5,000 records from within SQL Workshop.
    Thanks for you help!

    hi mikes--
    that sqlworkshop 5k row limit issue was corrected in htmldb 2.0. in 1.6.x, i'm pretty sure you're always limited to 5k no matter what you select for that Max Rows attribute.

  • Pagination disappears after setting 'max row count'

    I have a report with app. 4500 records (with the default of 15 lines per page) and a pagination scheme of 'Row Ranges 1-15 16-30 in select list (with pagination)'.
    When running the report, all is working fine and i get the information in the select list '.. of more than 500'.
    Then i inserted some values in the 'max row count'-field:
    a value of 2000: it's working as expected
    a value of 4000 (or more): the pagination disappears and won't be desplayed :-(
    Any ideas, what i have done wrong?
    Thanks
    Rainer

    Hi
    This problem - select list dissapearing when > 32k still persists in Version 3.
    A neat workaround is to use a page item to set the number of rows disaplyed.
    Where there is a large number of rows in the table and the max rows is also large, simply set the page item value for the number of rows to a larger value say 200 - then - if the select list now becomes less than 32K the select list will be shown.
    It's a matter of balancing the number of rows shown on the page with the total number of rows in the table / max rows combination.
    It's not perfect but it works.
    Hope this helps.

    I think that whoever your administrator is has to increase the max for you, this is I believe done on a universe level (i.e., he can't just increase the max rows for a single user like yourself, the increase will be made for all users of the universe your using).

    Is there a way to set IR max row count dynamically?
    To improve performance, I would like to set this value to 200 when users run the report and set this value to 50000 when users download the report.

    A dirty solution to this could be , create IR report with rowum < 201 and then add a link to the region header for downloading report. Point this link to another page with the same sql query (classic report) and select the template as CSV.
