Hi -
We recently upgraded to Mounatin Lion and when opening a couple of different applications (Quickbooks and Vectorworks) we often, but not always, get a warning message saying something like "You are opening the application ____ for the furst time" even though the application has been opened many times before.
I've seen a few older suggestions in the archives (pre Mountain Lion) that involve opening a Terminal window and entering some lines of code. Is that my only solution, or is there a file that I can trash or something else?

Having this exact same problem - Not just after the upgrade, but began a few months in.
Hope a solution comes up. Most tips online are from 2006 or 2009.

"You are opening the application----- for the first time" error

I've seen a few people post about this from as far back as 2005 but I haven't found anything that worked for me. I believe I started having this problem after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
When opening an application, most often Microsoft Office by opening a specific document/file, I get the warning that I'm opening the application for the first time. This is mostly an annoyance but I don't know how to get this error to stop coming up. I saw a suggestion to delete caches and make sure the application was set as default for that file type; these haven't solved the problem yet.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I'm not sure it helped. I did recently trash a couple caches, but this was after the problem had started. I found an old post that suggested the cache might be corrupted and that it would be a good idea to trash it.
The link you posted notes that the deleted cache could cause that problem, but I would think a new cache would be created and it would be resolved. Is it possible I have a setting that's erasing it? How would I change that? It also sounds like in the link you posted that theMacMac's problem eventually went away without explanation.

Do you have a administrator account existing on the client computer?
You can attempt to log on as administrator and connect this USB mouse so that driver would be installed automatically for users.
Also, you can give user rights to install/ remove drivers through GPO.
Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment > Load and unload device drivers
And then add User or Group

Getting error while Importing the Application

I am Getting Problem While Importing the Application
We are moving the Application from Test enivorment to Production Environment, Both are Oracle 10g with HTTP server and Application Express 3.2.1.

Details of users who have logged into the application

I have installed oracle 10g Forms and services and oracle database 10g in the server.The users will run the application from the client machine. I want to know how many users are accessing the application and their ip address .

Not asked where to place the application

The install process assumes that the purchased application is be in the the /Applications folder.
IMHO, that folder is not for 3rd party applications - I move applications that install themselves there to another folder and if the apps refuse to run properly, they are uninstalled/deleted.
Remember: this is my computer, not yours, to be organized my way, not your way.

Just in case you did not know, Discussions is a user-to-user forum -- you are talking to other users like yourself. So if you have a suggestion for a change in an Apple application like the Mac App Store, it won't do you much good to post it here. Instead, send such things to Apple using the http://www.apple.com/feedback/ page.
Regarding where apps are installed, the /Applications folder is intended for all applications that are shared among user accounts. If you don't keep them there, you may have problems with updaters, permissions repairs, uninstallers, & in a few cases application stability; so it is a good idea to stick with this organization.
However, if you want to categorize differently, one way to do this is to create new folders in your user account's home folder, & place aliases of the apps in them. You can also use the label function to color code the apps within the /Applications folder, say with orange for untested 3rd party apps & green for tested ones.

Is there a setting to wrap code when resizing the application window?

I find it very annoying that I have to scroll horizontally to get to specific areas of my code. Is there some sort of preference that I can set to wrap my code so that it wouldn't extend past the visible area of the application window? Thanks.

It's June 16 and no word wrap. Maybe there was word wrap. When I downloaded Edge Code, I immediately started installing some brackets plugins. Could one of them eliminated word wrap?
Speaking of brackets plugins, it's hard to know whether one is or isn't compatible with Edge Code. Of the ones I installed, none of them has prompted Edge Code to warn me of anything, however, some of them seem to work and some of them appear in the interface but don't seem to work, and some of them just aren't there at all.
Perhaps I need a cheat sheet like with brackets so I know what magical key combination will make something work or reveal something hidden?
Anyway, support for plugins needs to be clarified. If there are going to be plugins, there needs to be a pluins manager (the one from brackets doesn't work).
But I was mentioning Word Wrap... Is that part of the current build and I destroyed it with a plugin?

PS CS6 palettes need the application frame

I use two monitors, one for my canvus and the other for all my palettes. Which means my palettes are outside the application frame. With this setup, my mouse is very "jerky" when rolling over the layers palette, or others (takes a few sconds to notice). But once I move the palettes within the application frame the mouse is very smooth. Is anyone else having this problem? I am able to produce this on two Macs.
My setup is:
MacBook Pro
10.8.2
16 GB of ram
AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB graphics

No it doesn't. But if I drag the application frame across both monitors, so that it's under the palettes, all is very smooth. Problem is, that it's a bit awkawrd because the second monitor is the 15" laptop and the main is a Apple 23" Cinema HD Display.
I also tried disabling the Graphics Procssor Settings and restarted, but no change.

Where are all the Develop Presets located?

In the Develop Preset folder (Vista: C:\Users\Howie\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets) there are only a few presets listed instead of all the creative and sharpening presets as seen in the Quick Develop "saved preset" drop down. Where are all the other presets located?
Note: my goal is to look at each creative preset to see just what settings are being applied.

Howie - I have no idea where they are stored on Windows - from a quick exploration I guess they are in the Application .exe file. On the Mac you can get into this, but I'm not sure you can on a PC
However the simplest thing to do is Apply a Preset and Note what is does in the Develop Module. That will be what the Preset is trying to do.
Alternatively Apply the Preset and Create a New Preset with a Different Name, it will have the same settings.

Standard troubleshooting...
1. Try a Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the slider. Slide to power off. Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the Apple logo.
2. Try a Reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
3. Remove apps from Recently Used (multi-tasking) list...
- From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
- Swipe up on the app preview card to remove it from the list
- Press the home button when done.
4. If still a problem restore with your backup.
5. If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
6. If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.

I am following the instructions to download v 6 but receive no prompt to move the Firefox icon to the applications folder. I have done that anyway, but it's not saving-the latest version is July 11. I then get reminders to update all the time-what am I doing wrong?

A lot of people panic when they see Photoshop displaying differently from other software. But that's normal and expected. Here's what happens:
1. Photoshop is color managed and performs a document profile > monitor profile conversion when it displays. So whatever the document profile is, Photoshop will display correctly - unless you have CM policies set to "off" (...!)
2. Other applications, including many web browsers, aren't color managed and will just send the file numbers directly to the display. This distinction is extremely important, because there will be a slight difference. Again, that's normal. Photoshop is right and the other apps are wrong.
3. Without color management, it all hangs on how your monitor displays color. Most monitors are so close to sRGB that any sRGB file will display roughly correctly. This is why sRGB is the de facto web standard: it can live without color management. And that's why you should always convert web material to sRGB. Yes, that's the Edit > Convert to Profile option. You can also use Save For Web to do this if you check the appropriate boxes.

When trying to setup my external hard drive, I get this box that pops up and says this:

PowerPC was a type of processor used in Mac systems before Apple switched to Intel-based processors. These older chips required applications to be coded differently, to the extent that they will not run on the Intel processors in newer Macs. Apple used to include a translator that allowed these programs to at least run, but this translator is no longer available so if you run into an older PowerPC-based program then OS X will give you this error.

PowerPC applications are unsupported in newer versions. You can upgrade Photoshop or you can install Snow Leopard in a partition.
1. Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities) and select your drive
2. Go to Partitions tab, press + button, create a new partition and press Apply
3. Insert the Snow Leopard install DVD and reboot pressing C key
4. Install it in the new partition
5. If you want to change boot, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and select 10.7

A pop up is displayed every 10 seconds "You can't open the application NotificationExec because PowerPC applications are no longer supported"

Shortly after upgrading to version 10.7, I installed an application that was not compatable with the LION operating system. The application was for an external Maxtor hard drive that appearantly was intened for an earlier Mac operating system.
Now I get the popup "You can't open the application NotificationExec because PowerPC applications are no longer supported" about every 10 seconds.
How to I get rid of this.
There is nothing to Force Quit. The process (if it is a process) does not show up in Activity Monitor. I have also tried to use the KILLALL command but no process is found by that name.

Absolutely frustrated by the same problem, just lost 3 hours of my day trying to uninstall after getting the same error message. The ONLY thing that worked for me was going to the following Maxtor (Seagate) URL:

I downloaded their "remove maxtor sw.zip" file
Click here to download the remove_maxtor_sw.zip file and store it on your system's desktop.
And it worked perfectly. Took 10 seconds and - after restarting - it was done.
