Maximum connections on UDP/TCP

I'm trying to find how many connections could be established and handled on java TCP/UDP sockets:
1. In TCP when I'm using a ServerSocket.accept(), how many clients can I handle, is it O/S dependent?, or is it set by the 2nd parameter when creating a new Server socket: public ServerSocket(int port, int backlog)?
2. In UDP, when using DatagramSocket.receive(packet), how many client calls could be handled, is it also O/S dependent or could be set?
Thank you!
Boaz

IP only has 65535 ports, so that limits the number of clients you can serve at a time.

  • SbRIO-9612 unable to close a TCP connection without causing TCP failure

    Hello,
I'm working on a multi-server (sbRIO-9612's), multi-client (Windows PCs) application which uses the STM 2.0 libraries and LV2009 SP1.  The server listens on a UDP port for the client to send a message - once sent, the server opens the TCP connection to the client and all is well . . .
. . . until I added a "hearbeat" message to monitor for down connections.  Once the TCP connection has been extablished, the client PC sends a TCP message (a request for the number of clients connected) to the server sbRIO-9612 every 5 seconds - both the client and server are coded to close the connection if a message is not received within 10 seconds.  The client-side app works fine - if the TCP message is not returned in 10 seconds, the connection is closed and a new UDP message is sent to re-establish it.
The server-side is the problem - if no message is received in 10 seconds, the TCP connection is closed o.k. (no errors), but the server will no longer allow new TCP connections to be established unless it's rebooted.  It seems to work fine if I leave the non-communicating TCP connections open on the server-side, but I can see this leading to problems after several clients have disconnected without notifying the server properly.
Interestingly, if the client closes the TCP connection properly (via TCP Close in LV), the server detects it fine and there is no problem.
I'm allowing the operating system on both sides to select the TCP port to use.
Any help is greatly appriciated - thank you!

    Hi Al,
Thanks for the update -- I'm glad that you were able to find that the issue wasn't actually with the TCP VIs, and moreover that LabVIEW 2010 SP1 seems to have resolved the issue. I would still recommend combing through the code on the RT end to ensure that the LabVIEW 2010 SP1 upgrade really did 'fix' the underlying issue. It's somewhat strange that a version upgrade resolved TCP communication issues that you were having. I just want to be sure that the solution is a truly stable one.

  • ## NEED HELP ## Weblogic Managed Server Holding Maximum Connections

In one of our weblogic setup, we have weblogic cluster with 4 members. This cluster has been setup with 2 physical servers, each server having 2 cluser members like below...
    Host Server 1 : ManagedServer1:7003, ManagedServer2:7004
    Host Server2 : ManagedServer3:7003, ManagedServer4:7004
Cluster member of ManagedServer1:7003 holding maximum connection to HostServer2 and same cluser member of ManagedServer3:7003 holding maximum connection with HostServer1.
As my assumption, since members are in cluster, heartbeat between the members (Host Server 1 : ManagedServer1:7003 and Host Server2 : ManagedServer3:7003) are holding the connections.
Currently each managed server 8000 to 10000 connections holding as ESTABLISHED.
Please let me know, what may be the reason, but other members of same cluster are fuctionality fine.

I have an AEBS that doesn't want to get an IP#. It always seems to want ot self assign something in the range of 169.255.120.101 or something.
This address is indicative of the AEBS not being able to connect to or recognize a DHCP server.
f I plug my DSL modem directly to the computer, it immediately recognises the line and get an IP#, but when I switch to the AEBS, the BS jsut makes up its own.
Are you performing a power recycle when switching devices connected to the DSL modem? Most modems "memorize" the MAC address of the device connected to it. Without a proper power recycle, it may not recognize the MAC of the new device connected to it.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
    - Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, Internet Router, & computer(s). (If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the Internet Router; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)

  • Sockets, multicast/broadcast, UDP, TCP, SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT and SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE

EDIT: the topic was moved to https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/6b0fbcbc-1139-4d7a-a62a-a5b16a6e0229/sockets-multicastbroadcast-udp-tcp-soreuseaddr-soreuseport-and-soexclusiveaddruse?forum=wcf .
    Hello,
in the project Dao (https://github.com/daokoder/dao) we got stuck upon a problem with a wrapper interface for bind(), which should be multiplatform (work on all Windows versions from XP higher and also on BSDs and also other POSIX systems) and offer the
    following two options:
    1) A safe bind of one socket, one address (specific or wildcard) and one port such that no other process (disregarding the user the process runs under and disregarding user privileges) could be successful with a call to bind() on the same socket with the
same address and the same port.
    2) A bind with allowing multicast/broadcast, reuse of address, port and all these disregarding the state of the socket (e.g. TIME_WAIT) and disregarding the type of connection (UDP, TCP). In other words, the behavior should be the same a the behavior of
BSD sockets in all cases and under all conditions.
The main differences between BSD and Windows are conveniently described on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14388706/socket-options-so-reuseaddr-and-so-reuseport-how-do-they-differ-do-they-mean-t . According to that, one would say that a solution:
    1) For BSD "0" and for Windows "SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE"
    2) For BSD "SO_REUSEPORT | SO_REUSEADDR" and for Windows "SO_REUSEADDR"
is enough. But it's not true. For example due to Enhanced Socket Security and their behavior described in the table http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms740621(v=vs.85).aspx (after first call to bind() with wildcard address and SO_REUSEADDR
set, a second call to bind() with non-wildcard address and SO_REUSEADDR set will fail with error WSAEACCES).
A solution might be to gather all the needed information (like user id, if there are any processes using that particular socket and if a call to connect() was already issued in case of TCP) and according to this information use the right mix of options SO_REUSEADDR,
SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE and others if needed. We didn't find though enough documentation about where to get all the needed information. Note that this solution would need an atomic query on socket (for all the information) in conjunction with a call to bind().
Another solution could be to call bind() with different flags and decide upon the return error codes. This is though a nasty hack we would like to avoid.
The question for you is, if you happen to know about any better solution than the ones mentioned above. There is a public discussion about this problem starting with comment https://github.com/daokoder/dao/issues/243#issuecomment-60434078 .
    Thank you in advance!

  • ASA5510 - Maximum connect time

Quick question.  I have configured the "Maximum Connect Time" as unlimited in my group policy but when a connection is established it shows a "Conn Time Out: 120 minutes".
The connection does get dropped with this timer.  Any idea how to actually make it unlimited and why it get sets to 120?
I having a problem with SSL phone clients dropping throughout the day and think this may be the cause.
    Thanks

I ended up rebooting the ASA this morning and it fixed the issue.  Right away the timeout changed to what I had configured it to be and I was also able to make changes.
Here's the response from TAC.  Thanks for helping with this.  Much appreciated.
"I am glad that the issue was resolved on a reboot. Might be that svc sessions were stuck in the memory for some reason and the same sessions would be invoked every time you connected rather than tearing it down and creating a new svc session.
Once rebooted I believe the sessions stuck in memory were cleared and new sessions came up as a result the issue vanished. I shall surely update you as I have an update from the devs on this."

  • Maximum connections allowed for AMS 5.0.1

How can I find out the maximum connection allowed for adobe media server 5.0.1 standard license?

...that would depend on your application.
For a one-way video-on-demand system that streams recorded video at the user's request. Adobe Media Server serves only one stream to each user.
Here are the bandwidth calculations you would make:
    Calculating server bandwidth needs (BWs):
    BWs = N × S
where N = number of simultaneous users (subscribers)
and S = average bitrate of encoded A/V content
For example to calculate the overall server bandwidth needed to stream video encoded at 500 Kbps to 1000 simultaneous users:
    500 Mbps = 1000 × 500 Kbps
The above assumes that content is encoded at a constant bitrate. Most often, however, you will vary the bitrate of the content to suit the viewing audience. This affects your bandwidth needs at both the client and server level.
For example, suppose you estimated that half of the 1000 simultaneous users were going to connect via 350 Kbps DSL modem and the other half via 3 Mbps cable modem. Suppose further that while the video encoded at 500 Kbps was appropriate for the cable viewers, you wanted to encode a separate video at 150 Kbps for the DSL modem users.
In this case, the total bandwidth required of the system is lowered to 325 Mbps:
    325 Mbps = (500 Kbps × 500) + (150 Kbps × 500)

  • SCOM 2007 - SharePoint 2007: Maximum connections counter

    Hello,
I am trying to locate the "Maximum connections counter" for SharePoint 2007 using SCOM 2007. I don't see it so far!!!

    Thanks,

System Center Operations Manager 2007 / System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 / Forefront Client Security / Forefront Identity Manager

The object is Web Service, which then has several different counters, which then might have several instances.
If this performance object is something you want to monitor for, and it is not included in the mp, then you just need to create a performance monitor or collection rule, depending on what you want to do with the data.
The Exchange 2013 MP, for example, has no performance collection rules.  So it's very possible, while the product group wanted to include everything most people need, they could have forgotten or were just not able to do so before they had to release
the mp.  The MOSS 2007 MP has been around for years, was never updated, and isn't one of the better mps from MSFT.  So if you want to extend it with a custom management pack, or just add something via the console, then you should be fine.

  • Could not connect to net.tcp://localhost:890/Microsoft.Exchange.Directory.TopologyService

All the Exchange 2013 Prerequisites appeared to install correctly.  The installation of Exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2012 hangs at Initializing Setup.  Then I find event 4027, source MSExchange ADAccess in the application event log.  The
same thing happens if I try to prepare the Active Directory from the command prompt. The old Exchange 2007 server and Active Directory Server are on the same network and all firewalls are off.  The entire content of the event is below.  Any ideas
    appreciated.

    Hello,
Please make sure whether you install exchange 2013 on a DC server. If so, we don't recommend you install Exchange 2013 server and DC server on a server.
Please use ping to check if the server you will install exchange 2013 server on can communicate with DC server.
Please use telnet to check if 890 port is opened on your firewall.
Besides, please refer to the following article to check if you have installed required components again.

  • Maximum Connections Oracle can provide

I have this query, how many maximum connections does oracle provide to any applications server.
I am aware that the number of connections are configurable. But i wanted to know the maximum number of connections after which there is a possibilty of oracle to crash, or after these particular number connectins oracle wont support any more connections.
Please help me with this, as im in desperate need of a solution.
    Thanx for your time.
    Nikhil

There is no functional limit to the number of connections Oracle can support. There may be some internal limit (i.e. session ID may be an integer, which would limit you to 4 billion connections on a 32-bit system) but I've never heard of anyone actually hitting such a limit. In reality, you will be constrained by your hardware long before you are constrained by Oracle.
Unfortunately, estimating how many connections your particular hardware can support is not trivial. It depends, obviously, on your hardware, but it also depends on your application and on how your database is configured-- shared server vs. dedicated server would be the largest factor here.

and display this and a stacktrace when you get Maximum Connections Reached Exception.
Even if you were using connection pooling
the database can still reject connections above a certain number of concurrent connections.
