MBP After 1 week of use

This report will track well with the conventional wisdom about a so called "1.0" piece of hardware.
*Very cool form factor. The slight additional thinness makes a big difference!
*No obvious form or fit issues. It's just as solid as the Powerbook it's replacing.
*Much more effective at transcoding video, no surprise there.
*Buggy. Even Universal apps such as Itunes, Safari, and the Finder itself are not quite as reliable as the Power PC versions. I couldn't make Safari work. It caused kernel panics causing me to have to power the system down manually. Replaced it with Camino which crashes occasionally.
*Sometimes the dock takes a second to respond--something I never saw with the Power PC Powerbook. I just finished mousing over the icons in my topmost menu bar such as the volume control, airport menu, time and date, etc. Many of them hesitate for a second or two or give me a beachball momentarily before they respond. I never experienced anything like this with my Powerbook except when the hard drive was failing after two years of use.
I am not complaining. The Intel version of OSX and the new Universal apps are new and have not been used in the real world very long. I am sure they will get better with time and Firefox will be out soon in Univeral Binary form. Overall I am not displeased. The crucial thing is that this computer can fill the place previously occupied by my beloved Powerbook.

Just thought I'd chime in here as well a little.
I've had mine for 1 week as of today as well. I agree with all of your positive points, and would also like to add that the screen brightness is a huge improvement over my IBM Thinkpad (I've never owned a Mac before this so I can't compare that).
Safari launches in just a single bounce of the dock icon and has not crashed at all for me. It runs a little faster than Firefox and Camino, but that is to be expected. Using the unofficial Univeral build of Firefox and Thunderbird, they are very quick and snappy with very few crashing issues (Firefox has crashed maybe once or twice, Thunderbird has not at all.) I also have no hesitation at all when accessing the dock or menubar items.
The only problems I've had have come from either running PowerPC versions of programs (VLC would crash many times when switching in and out of full screen mode, but the Universal nightly build fixed this right up).
Also, a couple things I've encountered briefly- When closing my MacBook Pro's lid to transport it after having it hooked up to my Dell 2005FPW LCD and external speakers, when I wake it up later, the sound is muted and the only way to unmute it is to plug in speakers or headphones and remove them (or reboot). This has happened only once. Also one time I have had the screen remain blank upon opening it up after having been plugged into the LCD and nothing seemed to "wake it up" (hitting various key combinations, checking screen brightness, etc). I had to hard reboot it to bring it out of that.
Otherwise, everything is great.

Pse8 and Premier asking for license code after weeks of use.

I have been using pse for several weeks and suddenly today it starts with an adobe organizer screen and wants to know if I want to use the trial or enter my code. When I enter my license code, it puts a red x after it and won't take it.
If I try to continue, I get a message saying it had a problem loading the trial version.
I have put in a case, but if like last time, it will take days, so thought I would ask here.

I apologize that you have been running into these issues again and again. This shouldnt have happened.
Ideally if it is working once, Organizer should not ask for the serial number again. This is the first time I am hearing that someone is running into Organizer throwing serial number screen again and again.
Did you by any chance have deleted the files or folder at the below location?
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD\
Or another reasoning which I can think of, is that in the durations while you are not using PSE, you are running some other application which is in turn taking away the permissions to read the files present at the below location and PSE on lanuch is not able to read the information it needs. Can you please check that? if there is any application which you think might be the culprit you can let me know and I can try to reproduce the scenario at my end.
The only workaround for now, would be to again uninstall and install PSE....sorry again for the inconveniences..

Hello, I received my IPhone 5 as a Christmas present, and 2 weeks ago my lock button stopped working. I don't have insurance on my phone, but is there a possibility I can get a replacement or get it fixed through apple either freely or inexpensively?

Since you have had your iPhone under a year if you take it to a apple store and go to the genius bar they should replace your current iPhone with a brand new one for free.

I just purchased my Macbook Pro retina display OS X 10.7.4 in June 2012. Shortly after I began using it, it began randomly restarting itself while in use. Why and how do I fix this?

So as I said in the title, I purchased my new Macbook Pro retina display OS X 10.7.4 in June 2012 and recieved in early July. Shortly after I started using the laptop, it began randomly restarting itself. It does this about once a week while I am just using the laptop for normal internet browsing. I haven't downloaded any outside software that the system could be rejecting and it is fully charged. Any ideas on why this is happening or how to fix it?
Also this is a total random question, but there is a residue on my laptop that is faint but randomly shows up. I'm almost positive that it is nothing on my hands or where I place the laptop. I wasn't sure if it was something possibly coming from the side vents. Thanks for the help!

Exactly what Shootist007 states - take it in for service or replacement - could be a simple software issue or it could be a hardware issue...
Don't even bother messing with it.....Might screw up even more.....
Make sure your files are backed up in case they give you a replacement....

I have been to the local Genius bar and through trial and error we have determined that Mail is working ok but somehow the account is causing the problem. I have used this account for years. Any ideas what is causing this?

No idea why, but one thing you may try if you have the time, is create a new user, and set up the problem mail account in the new user space. See if it causes your MBP to hang as well. That will tell you if it is something wrong with your main User, or something wrong with MBP.
Assuming this works, I'd nuke the problem account in your main user space, re-start, and reinititate the account and see if that helps.
Depening on how many email accounts you have setup, it may be necessary to nuke the whole Mail folder in your User/Library.... Hard way to get it to work, but just my idea.

Require backup script which deletes the daily backups after weekly backup

I am new to Oracle administration. I require a backup script which will delete the daily backups (incremental) after weekly backup is taken (full database backup).
Currently I use Oracle 10g for one of my production server.
My backup strategy is given below.
I would like to take full database backup weekly(online). To be precise, on Saturday.
I need to have daily incremental backup and they should get deleted on Saturday after the weekly full database backup is taken.
Also I would like to keep 4 weeks full backups. After that one by one we need to delete the backup.
For example, if I have 4 weeks fullbackup of February, after taking full backup for first week of March, the backup of first week of February should get deleted.
Kindly help with your suggestions.

Thank you for pointing to the blog. It was very much useful.
I was testing the backup strategy using your script. It worked fine for first set of daily backups.
After weekly backup is taken, the daily backup script fails for taking the backup from next day onwards.
It gives the following error stack.

How to save report in PersonalCategory after creating it using java panel?

Anybody knows How to save report in PersonalCategory after creating it using java panel?
I dont want to save it in public folder. I want to save report (webi) in user's personal category.
can anybody send me source code?
It will help me a lot.

i'm assuming that you have seen my post that i did successfuly save report in user's personal category.
Actually the report is created in webi java panel using RE SDK and is saved in Report Sample Folder then i'm saving it in user's personal category by following code

Magic Mouse not connecting to MBP after Sleep or Re-start

This has been an on going problem for me since I upgraded to OSX 10.8 on my MBP. Since the upgrade my Magic Mouse will no longer connect to my MBP after it has gone to sleep, restarted or shut down. The only way I have been able to get a connection is to Click on the BT icon goto the mouse>Open Preferances. At this point the computer is 'Waiting for a Bluetooth mouse to be discovered' and it will keep searching forever. Clicking on the mouse button or moving the mouse around does not do anything even though the green light on the bottom of the mouse indicates it is on & attempting communication. I have to turn the mouse off for 3-5 seconds and then turn the mouse back on. This is the only way for the computer to see the mouse, I then click connect the mouse connects and all is good until the computer sleeps, gets restarted or shut down.
I have tried resetting the PRAM & SMC. I have also deleted the mouse from bluetooth preferances and re-paired it with the computer several times. I even tried deleting the PList and re-pairing but nothing yet has worked!
Open to any and all suggests! PLEASE help!

I have a mid 2014 15 inch MacBook Pro and I'm experiencing now the same issue. I have an iPad and an iMac and the issue is only with the MacBook Pro.
I went to System Preferences > Network > Wi - Fi and selected 'Ask to join new networks'. It didn't remove completely the issue (is still not finding the network) but at least I don't have to turn the wifi on and off all the time because after a while is able to connect.

I already tried the following:
a. Turned the phone off and then on.
b. Checked all wifi connections – no problem given that all our laptops and desktops can connect seamlessly.
c. I tried restoring the phone to original factory settings via itunes
d. Tried resetting the phone.
e. Tried different microsims from all networks
f. However, all methods failed given that the network reception is very weak and often reflects – “no service”. And with regards to the wifi reception It has difficulty in reading even the signal right in front of the wifi router.
I went to two Apple resellers here in Bangkok and requested that they please look at my Iphone and have it serviced. I was frustrated when they said that given that I bought my phone in Canada, they are not able to support me and should instead try to contact the Apple store in Canada.
I went to apple.ca website and went to the expresslane support and I was said to register and callback. Tried calling the 1800 number but given that I was in Thailand I had difficulty getting a connection.

Was that iTunes' safe mode as opposed to Windows' safe mode? iTunes safe mode is invoked by holding down CTRL+SHIFT immediately after clicking the icon to launch iTunes and continuing to hold until this message pops up:
Click continue, then close iTunes and reopen. With luck iTunes now opens normally every time.
