MediaPlayback component intermittent stuttering

I'm creating a very simple .mp3 player in Flash 8. When the
user selects one of four audio files, I set the contentPath of the
component instance to the .mp3's filepath. There's also a button
that plays/pauses the .mp3 using the myInstance.play() and
myInstance.pause() commands. For the most part, it works fine.
However, sometimes when the user pauses the .mp3, then
selects a different .mp3, the audio begins to stutter repeatedly;
it plays a very short (less than one second) snippet of the audio,
then keeps repeating this snippet.
Anyone ever encountered this? Thanks!

Marghoob Sulemaan suggest a better solution I just dont know
if flvPlayBack offer a video listener like onVideoComplete. if
youfind this solution plz let me know
other option:
you can execute this script while the video is playing. you
can probablly execute it every 1 second by setting set interval:
script:
var m = this.myVideo;
if(!m.playing)
if(m.playheadTime) >= m.totalTime){
trace("video ends! play the next one")
}

  • MediaPlayBack component, forward button grayed out

    I am using the mediaplayback component and it plays the FLV
    fine when I test it. It allows me to pause and play and rewind to
    the first frame, but the fast forward button to go to the end of
    the flv is grayed out. I don't know why? Also I am loading a swf to
    play as a preloader when the flv is done loading. What functions do
    I use to code this. thanks!

    FYI.. This was a UME Role issue.
    Assign the user all of the BPM roles and at least one gives them access..

  • When to use FLVPlayback and when to use MediaPlayback component

    Hi,
    I looked at at the FLVPLayback component and the
    MediaPlayback Component and I wonder when one should be used over
    the other? Any experienced designer out there that can tell me?
    thanks

    Hey, My problem with using flvplayback is that SOME windows
    vista computers, and i seriously cannot figure out exactly what it
    is but they will play the flv very choppy and so i had to use
    mediaplayback and it works fine on all computers that i have tested
    it on. it was VERY annoying because my client kept attempting to
    watch video from his computer and it came through as garbage and
    when i watched it, well it was perfect. so i tested it out on
    several different computers and operating systems and found that
    certain computers were just not compatible. I am assuming they were
    just not up to date? i dunno, i have a mac, dont have those
    problems :)

  • Styling / Skinning the MediaPlayback Component

    I've been trying to change the colors on the darn
    MediaPlayback Component for months!!! I've read so many tutorials
    on skinning, styling, etc... but I can't get these stupid colors to
    change. I've managed to style other components using code, using
    themes, etc... but this component won't budge!
    Can someone point me to a method that 100% works? I'm not
    looking to change button shapes, only the colors.. specifically the
    green. If code works for this, I am comfortable with code.
    Anything!
    I'm using Flash 8 Professional.

  • Using skin from mediaplayback component on flvplayback component ?

    Hi.
    Is it possible to use the skin from the mediaplayback
    component on the flvplayback component ?
    (I've been checking online for this but can't find answer
    anywhere.)
    I want to use the flvplayback so as I can keep the movie
    controls within the area of my flv movie.
    The flvplayback is too large with the boarders and the fact
    that the progress/control bar is placed outside of the movie area.
    Any advice would be great. Thanks. Joey

  • Games intermittantly stuttering in Boot Camp

    I've recently been experiencing some issues with intermittant stuttering whilst using games in Windows, everything is running fine and then all of a sudden the program suddenly drops to <1 fps as well as the sound stuttering.
    If I alt-tab or ctrl-alt-delete then I can close the program down (the desktop and other background processes are all running fine, just the game itself is stuttering), but I'm not really sure what the problem could be.
    As of the most recent Apple Software Update, I'm running 188.61 nVidia drivers and using a 9600M GT, but it seems to have just come out of nowhere. I've also tried reinstalling the Boot Camp software with my Snow Leopard DVD, but to no avail.

    Ok, I thought my Uni MBP was defective, because I have the same problem with CoD4. The game is choppy, and forget playing at high rez. I had the better performance on.
    According to CoD4 ingame optimizer, the optimal setting for my spec should be 1024x768 rez. And even then, it would get choppy, especially during graphic heavy scene. The weird thing is, when I minimize the game to check the CPU usage via istat, cpu isnt maxed out at all (around 70% per core).
    I was reading some posts on Macrumors, and other people have the same problem with not just CoD, but with Spore and WoW. On the other hand, some people say they can play CoD4 at high rez with most settings turned on and still get 40+ fps.
    I ran hardware test last night and it didnt find anything wrong (which it also did ram test).

  • FLV progressive download and MediaPlayback component???

    Hi
    I have to use FLV and progressive download. I did that with
    the Video Object. That works great. The problem is that Video
    Object does not allow us to control movie volume. It does not give
    many function to control my movie. So the solution should be to use
    the MediaPlayback component that gives me many fonctions, listner,
    ... But how to make it works with a FLV that reside on the server
    but not in Streaming. I need to load it in progressive.
    Any idea.

    It's a snap with Flash 8 Pro. You just attach a skin to the
    FLV with all the components (such as volume, mute, play, and pause)
    and your good to go. Not sure how it works with earlier versions of
    Flash.

  • MediaPlayBack component audio speed

    If, i've following the basic instructions for using the
    mediaPlayBack component:
    drag to stage, set to MP3, target a *.mp3 and publish.
    fla, swf and mp3 are all i the same folder.
    Works fine expect teh mp3 is being played back liek a
    chipmonk - doubel / maybe treble speed etc.
    why? i can't find a setting to control this?
    help, Rich
    Ps. Win XP Pro SP1, Flash Pro 8

    Yes your correct. Here's something I found on the subject:
    From here
    http://odeo.com/help/faq
    What's with the high speed playback on some audio?
    You’ve been chipmunk’d! Sometimes the Macromedia
    Flash player has a hard time dealing with files that are encoded at
    a rate that is not a multiple of 11.025 kHz. The result is what we
    call the “chipmunk” effect. When you download the file,
    it will play normally on your computer or device. Note to audio
    creators: Avoid being chipmunk’d by encoding MP3’s at
    11.025 22.05 or 44.1 kHz.

  • Problam with MediaPlayback component

    I am using MediaPlayback component. it is showing one small icon  on top right . when it is click MediaPlayback in full screen mode . what is  that icon & how remove that icon.

    Got the same issue with an iPhone I got today. I have no problem using the earphones and that works alright but no sound comes from the speakers, neither ringtones, lock sound or any of the other sounds.
    I have restored it twice with no luck but I have read about some sort of hardware problem that makes the phone believe that the earphones are plugged in so that might be it. Still haven't found a solution though.

  • External MP3 files causing long delays (using MediaPlayBack component)

    I've got 5 MP3 files that I am calling (on click) to be
    played. They're large - about 15MB each. The Flash movie is
    intended to be distributed on a CD. However, when I launch the
    movie (Flash Pro with Slides) it takes a long time (30-200 seconds)
    before the first screen will show. Sometimes Flash displays the
    "actionscript is taking a long time..." message. When I remove the
    slides that play the MP3 there is no slowness. Also, when the MP3s
    cannot be found the movie has no delays.
    I converted the slides back to a timeline-based movie. This
    eliminated the up-front delay, but now the delay appears when I
    click on the button to play the MP3.
    Any ideas?

    I noticed that streaming is not working from CD... Instead
    all the file is loaded first, and that's why you've got
    delays...

  • HDMI stuttering

    Have had older Mac Mini as center of my home media center. had older Mac Mini connected to amp/receiver using DVI out, connected to HDMI converter, and then HDMI into the receiver. worked perfectly, but sound like to go through another route. worked fine. got latest Mac Mini (disk drive was starting to die in the older one). took the DVI-to-HDMI connected out of the loop and went directly out the HDMI port on Mac Mini to HDMI port in the receiver, using the same cable, same input port, etc. A little fiddling got the sound and image both going through the HDMI. HDMI signal from receiver goes to Sony Bravia TV. beautiful picture and sound! fantastic. However, soon an intermittent stuttering problem developed. both image and sound disappear very briefly, perhaps a second, but long enough and frequent enough to make watching, say, Netflix unbearable and listening to Pandora very difficult. but the stuttering problem definitely comes and goes. bad for about 15 mins or so, then it goes away for an hour. I've done lots of searching and there are suggestions about screen resolutions, refresh rate, etc. I've tried them all. to no avail. suggestions? or is this likely bum hardware and I need to replace Mac Mini. don't want to restore everything if problem will persist with new machine. suggestions?

    Hi marcek6,
    does your TV show you the frame rate of the incoming video stream when you plug your 808 in?
    In my case, it outputs either 50 Hz or 60 HZ, depending on the video (25 or 30 fps, in the normal UI 60 Hz).
    Do you have any motion interpolation settings on your TV enabled (TrueMotion 200 Hz, Natural Motion, Intelligent Frame Creation etc.)? Try disabling it, or if it is disabled, enable it.

  • SetMedia problem with MediaPlayback - external MP3s

    I'm using the MediaPlayback component to play an external MP3
    file, and it's working fine, EXCEPT that when it first loads it
    plays the first part of the clip for a split second, then stops and
    re-plays it -- regardless of the autoPlay settings that are used.
    I have autoPlay set to false, both in the component
    properties panel AND explicitly in the code before the setMedia
    call. In the code below, the trace executes even though I've set
    autoPlay to false.
    I can stop the "blip" from happening if I inject a pause() or
    stop() command after the setMedia() call -- HOWEVER, it happens
    again when I call the play() method to play the file.
    HELP!! Anyone else out there had this problem and solved
    it??? I'm at my wit's end. See code snippet below.
    soundFile = "arabian_dreams.mp3";
    // Make sure media does not start playing 'til we tell it to
    myMedia.autoPlay = false;
    // Set the sound file for the MP3 player
    myMedia.setMedia(soundFile, "MP3");
    // Attempting to fix problem where the setMedia
    // function plays the clip for a fraction of a second
    // on loading, regardless of the autoPlay settings
    //myMedia.pause();
    //myMedia.stop();
    if (myMedia.playing == true) {
    trace("playing!");
    // Now play the sound
    myMedia.play(0);

    How old is the property? It may be that if it's pre60s, it was originally wired for 15amp (round-pin) and was not rewired correctly when converted to 13amp (square pin). It may also be that what you are experiencing with your system is indicative of the sort of wiring degradation that normally warrants a rewire (or partial rewire) of the house.
    There are testers available (Argos, even Tescos in their electrical sections, and other electrical retailers) that will check both grounding and possible wiring defects such as the transposition of live and neutral, but it may also be a wise move to try and isolate the problem as much as possible by connecting your mini to the TV, leaving aside the hard drive and hi-fi, to see if the problem still exists, then juggle components to see if you can determine whether the mini, the drive, the tv or the hi-fi appears to be the primary cause of the problem. It may even help to take the basic system elsewhere, and connect it to someone else's display etc just to test it.

  • MediaPlayback - event fired when file not found?

    I want to have a playlist containing mp3 from multiple sites.
    I would like to use the MediaPlayback component to play these. If
    we try to play an mp3 that is not currently available we'd simply
    like to skip to the next mp3. I don't see any event or anyway to
    detect if a file was not found.
    We'll be using the "complete" event to know when to start the
    next mp3. Unfortunately this event it not fired in the scenario
    where the file is not available.
    Any suggestions (other than using the Sound object directly)?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Mediaplayback object event listeners

    Folks,
    I'm new to using Flash and its actionscript. I'm using the
    Flash MX version. I'm working on an audio project that involves
    timestamped metadata associated with the audio. So I'm creating
    links in a web page to allow someone to jump to and play audio that
    is identified based on the associated metadata. So I've got an html
    page that contains Javascript with the SetVariable function being
    used to pass variables to a Flash file, which is working because I
    have the text variables defined on the stage and I can see the data
    values have changed.
    In the Flash file I've got a mediaplayback component
    (myMedia) defined along with the text variables that Javascript
    sets values for: playMe, startTime, stopTime, audioFile. In
    addition, I've defined a traceOutput text variable to use for
    debugging.
    I'm not familiar with event based programming, but I've been
    looking at the Flash on-line documentation as well as the AS for
    Flash MX definitive guide book. I've written some AS in my first
    frame of the only layer in the timeline to check for when a text
    variable has changed to indicate that the mediaplayback component
    should do things (see below). Of course nothing is working. Could
    someone please give me an idea if I'm completely off in what I'm
    trying to do? (Which by the way is to just have the media play
    within the timestamp block associated with the content that someone
    wants to listen to. The idea is to create a player that loads the
    media just once and allows for Javascript to update the player each
    time the same media file is referenced without reloading it.
    Presently we have solutions for playing the audio without using
    Flash, but in those, a 20Meg MP3 files is reloaded each time a link
    to it is clicked and I'd like to eliminate the repeated downloads
    of the same file when possible to improve response time when
    clicking on the links.)
    Thanks in advance,
    Jack

    This is probably because you have no way to listen to that
    event until you finish creating it.
    Specifically, assuming your TestPanel is in TestPanel.mxml,
    somewhere else you must have:
    <MyViews:TestPanel id="tp" />
    And then you must also be doing:
    tp.addEventListener("EventTest", onEventTest);
    My assumtion is that a) you aren't adding the listener to the
    tp at all, or b) that there is no way to add a listener until
    initialzation is complete.
    You can easily (quick and dirty) resolve this by using
    this.parentApplication.dispatchEvent("EventTest") in your test()
    method, and
    this.parentApplication.addEventListener("EventTest,
    "onEventTest");
    in your catching view. Otherwise you will need to create a
    Custom event that exists outside of either the panel or the parent,
    and use that for dispatch/listening.
    (You could also do it like this.addEventListener and
    this.parent.dispatchEvent(..) in test().)
