Medusa 5.1 + Audigy 2 ZS = low B

does anynoe else experience the same problem with this combination?
i got much vibration but the real bass is fairly low. Expically in BF2 when the artillery hits its quite noticeable. With my Logitech 2. speakers i got a much better bass.
BTW: someone with same setup, plz tell me ur setting with the creative software.

After being sent the FAQ which i had already looked at and tryed all aplicable options i have sent another message. I restated the problem to which i recieved this short reply:
"Hello, from the Rear comes no Bass, for the Bass is a Single Speaker integrated. If you think its defect change it please in your Shop."
Im guessing this means the bass is only supposed to be sent to one of the speakers, namely the sub speakers. So, why is it coming through the front speakers?, i have read somewhere on this forum that the bass can be redirected on the X-fi card. Is there any way to do this with the Audigy 2?. Oh and i have tried swaping the cables around, reversing the centre/sub channel and starting with a fresh install of my card. No change with any of these solutions.
I will try using an old hercules 5. card after work tonight, if it works with this it would confirm the problem lies with Creative and not with Speed-link. But using this old card would not be an ideal long term solution, im getting pretty disheartend with creative since hearing that the X-fi has its own special problems. I dont think i will be upgrading to this card any time soon.

  • Audigy Value and low profi

    Hi,
I was looking for an sound card which I can use in a case with low profile slots. So I found the Creative Audigy Value. I think the height of it is ok but it seems that there is no low profile bracket for it. Can I use this sound card in such cases nevertheless?

yes i have just bought the sound blaster audigy SE, not sure whether thats slim edition or slow or something but anyway its a half height card. I've been using the card unbracked for about a week with no trouble. If you are moving the PC about a lot it might flop from side to side about a bit but should be fine.

I purchased a second-hand Audigy 4 Pro. I was not given the software disk but managed to install the latest drivers and get it to play MP3s. I use Adobe Audition to record my old tapes to MP3 and record my attempts at guitar. With my SBLi've I had no problem. I bought the Pro because of the ease of using the breakout box. However I have some quesions about some problems I am having. ) Since I have no Creative software, just Win XP Mixer I don't seem to be able to control the input levels from either the mixer or the box. I have a tape deck using RCA to Line In 3 and an electric and acoustic guitar to Line In 2. The mixer record levels seem to have no effect. I can record but nothing seems to be much more than -20db or so at most. Could this be because Adobe Audition only shows Line In 3 L (ie one channel only)? Could this be because of the much greater dynamic range of the Audigy 4 compared to the SBLi've Value? Wow these forums still suck. You have easy questions and no one bothered to help you out. I registered jsut to answer them for you although you probably already figured it all out. . It seems that loudness is optomized by creatives own drivers. What you described was also true back when you could use the e-mu driver hacks before creative bought e-mu. 2. The master knob indeed spins for infinity, obviously with no effect once you get to either end. This sucks becasue i have OCD and constanly spin this thing all kinds of ways. THey should have used the same system as the line-/mic knob. Only God and the engineer will ever know why they did this. 3 Yes. The on screen display is pat of the creative media player app.
So to solve all your problems, you can get the full software package from creative.com under the support menu. Just follow the menu options for your device. The software requires that you have the hardware which you do so the software is free. One more problem you WILL have. The software doesnt install under XP. You have to enter windows safe mode and install it from there otherwise the whole thing freezes up during the start of the install process. Fun times!

  • Upgrade to Audigy 4 Need

I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro and I love it. The Sound Quality is really good and clear. I went on the sound blaster page and been reading about the new Audigy 4. Do you think if I upgrade I'll notice a really big difference or is the current sound card I got is good enfough. And this new Creative X-fi, you think i'll need to upgrade to that?I play video games and sound makes a difference but I really don't want to spend $300 on a new sound card if i'm not really going to notice a big difference.

The Audigy4 simply has some better quality DACs and newer Creative software than the Audigy 2ZS. The processor is exactly the same. Unless you feel that the DAC quality of your Audigy 2ZS is low, don't upgrade.
Besides the X-Fi is supposed to be the real succesor to the Audigy line with a completely new processor, that overcomes the limitation of the previous EMU0Kx architectures. Plus it is quite more powerful. So if you feel the need to upgrade, go for the X-Fi, not for the Audigy 4.
But personally I'll stick with my Audigy 2ZS for the time being.

  • SB PCI

    Hello, forum:
I want to install the drivers for my new . The machine is running XP Pro.
The Creative website doesn't have them, and I can't seem to find them anywhere. Where are the drivers? I've got 5 days to return the card to the store.
Please note that I do know what I'm doing, so condescending answers like, "is the card in the slot?" aren't going to solve anything.
    Thank you for your help.
edit: I neglected to mention that it's the CT4790. Is this like the AWE32, that turned out to not really exist? (Yes, I've had that many.)Message Edited by theMagni on --2004 0:02 AM

I don't mean to get hostile, but you're the third person from Creative that has suggested the driver download page without actually reading my post or checking the website. I also stated that I've tried the easy answers and I'm looking for a solution that's not readily available.
You know, the fact that I'm on the Creative support forum and you have to get there from support.creative.com should flag the fact that I've checked out the support website.
    Allow me to reiterate.
THE DRIVER ON THE CREATIVE WEB PAGE DOES NOT WORK FOR THE CT4790! THE DRIVER IS DEFECTIVE AND DOES NOT RUN UNDER WIN XP PRO!
Please read the above two sentences repeatedly until you understand them. When you're done, we'll move on.
The program runs, puts files on my hard dri've, then says something like, "No Li've! dri've was detected. Erasing everything; make sure your hardware is installed properly." (The actual text doesn't actually say much more than that, and I'm now at work.)
I'm not an idiot. I've been using SoundBlasters since they first came out, and I know when a driver that's provided by a company is not working. The one on your website doesn't work, and I can't believe you suggested that I hadn't tried it.
Further, to say that it's my fault because the card is "quite old" is ridiculous. I bought it with my money, it's your card, so you should give me the drivers that I paid for when I bought the card. It's for my second machine, which is a .G Athlon. I'm not going to spend $300 on a Audigy Platinum 2 Awesome Edition just because it's the newest card and you don't feel like keeping MY drivers on the website. Besides, the odds of Creative supplying drivers for the Audigy are pretty low, aren't they? There are several threads here where people just can't get it to run under XP. I simply can't trust that your products will work, and that you'll support them when they fail.
I'm returning the card and buying something else. Just for fun, I'm going to go with something that actually works. You can probably guess what brand it WON'T be.

  • Medusa 5.1's and Audigy 2

I'm having a couple of problems. My Speed-Link Medusa 5. headphones are much quiter on the rear audio than on the front and centre. I have all the settings correct on my headphones so I'm wondering if there is a problem with the Audigy 2 ZS soundcard?
Has anyone else had this problem and how did you resolve it's
    Thanks very much!
    Gareth

    Hi Gareth,
I haven't done it for a while so I can't really remember the details. If you go into the config application that came installed on the drivers CD, you can configure CMSS, THX and everything else...in here you can also configure your Surround set-up. You get a picture of a head in the middle of the room, and each speaker lights up as something is played through that channel. You can follow the Wizard through and it will help you lower/raise the volume for each channel.
I found I had to get the channels quite out of the centre position before it would sound like it should, which didn't seem right. I found it was less pronounced if I turned all the volume controls down slightly from max (which is what they were on) on the headphone controller.
Have a play around and let me know what works. Also, make sure you have the switchg on the headphones to "DVD" and not "CD", as "CD" turns them into stereo.

  • Very Low Volume - Audigy

Hi everyone, I just bought a custom-built computer and had an Audigy OEM put in it. The problem I have is that, with all of the volume levels up, the actual volume produced by my speakers is low. I'm using an old Compaq MV500 monitor that has the JBL speakers mounted on the sides. They are hooked up to the green port on the sound card. Does anyone know why this is? Do I need amplified speakers with this card?

    Audigeer,
Are your speakers powered (plug into the wall for power) or do they require amplification? The Audigy requires that the speakers be powered because it does not contain an amplifier. You may have to replace your speakers, however this may be a good opportunity to upgrade to a 2. or 5. speaker system. Some suggested systems would be:

  • Audigy 4 - low DVD playback vol

Hi guys, I need help in a simple matter. During DVD Movie playback with PowerDVD 6, I get very low volume when using the built-in Dolby Digital decoder the soundcard has. Voices have particularly very low volume levels. Maxing out the speaker volume won't help much. The player has been correctly configured to use SPDIF as the?speaker environment, and the speakers are set up in a 5. configuration in the Creative Speaker settings panel. The built-in decoder is activated in the Audio Console correctly. I have even tried using the ac3filter, but to no avail. Do I need an external amplifier? Or does the ac3filter need some configuration in order for it to work with the in-card decoder?I have an Audigy 4 OEM card that I use with the Logitech X-530 speakers. Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Bad sound and low subwoofer output on Audigy 2 zs with 5.1 5

    Hi,
I am getting very very low subwoofer output on my Audigy2 ZS with 5. 5200.
To test furthter, i did the follownig
    play mp3,
2 output is from front speakers
3 very very low subwoofer output
4 to confirm, removed green (front) black (read) cabled from sound card and can confirm a very very low subwoofer output
earlier with Li've! 5. every thing was working great.
    what could be wrong?
i think Audigy 2 zs is a bad card and is a marketting hype.
is it that we need a different kind of cable to connect Audigy2 zs with 5. 5200? ( i am using the cable which came with my 5200 ofcourse)Message Edited by kotecha on 2-3-2004 07:23 PM

    Hi Jeremy,
    Thanks for the response.
I have tried all the thx console setup and bass levels.
Its not affecting the subwoofer output very much.
<Infact the subwoofer output is so low that i have to go and put my ears on the subwoofer to see if its producing sound.
<FONT color=#333399>Remember that with Li've! 5. (SB0220) which also i have with me is giving all the great results. so the problem is not with speakers but with the sound card and i want my costly card (zs) to work.
(i still believe the 5. 5200 3 pole cables (green, black, yellow) which we attached to the sound card and speakers are not compatible with Audigy2 zs as zs needs 4 pole cables - but i have not verified this still as it will be a long time consuming exercise - purchasing 4 pole pins and soldering here and there on cables and poles and testing testing)
Also, why the bass boost controls (level and cutoff frequency) in bass boost are disabled? how to bring them to enabled state?
Also, in thx console setup (calibration page) , its not SAVING the changes which i make to Distance, Level and Angle. Why is that so?
To help you further in understand my problem please note that i HAVE updated all the software to its latest versions by doing the software AutoUpdate from creative support site.
So i am having atleast 3 issues now
<. VERY VERY low subwoofer output while playing mp3 on audigy2zs with 5. 5200(this is my major concern)
<2. Bass boost controls are disabled (how to enable these controls?)

  • Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS + Logitech Z-5500 5.1 Volume is TOOO low. PLEASE H

I have an Audigy 2 ZS and Logitech z-5500 5. speakers. Everything was working fine and one day the volume was reduced to/0 of what it was supposed to be. The speakers are connected with analog cable (yellow/black/green) and all the connections are right (it was working before). I had the same problem when I installed the sound card at first, I just installed the drivers and the volume was way too low. I went to EAX Console and changed a few options and BANG, volume was normal. Some options on EAX will just make the soundcard stop working, like POP will work but ROCK will mute the sound completely (is it a crappy software?). Now I have the same problem, it works but it sounds like a walkman. I tried removing the drivers and installing it again several times, tried system restore and absolutely nothing works. Next step is re-installing windows and exorcising the sound card. Has this happened to anyone out there, I haven't seen any problems like this yet. Thanks

    Hey,
I have a simmilar problem, i have a logitech z-680, and as i want to play audio-dvd my left rear channal has a very low sound. I played a bit in setup and it worked, i cleared my harddisc and installed windows and it worked for a few time, but then this happens. I had this problem that the whole left rear channel was quiet while every activity PC-games/normal stereo music but now is this problem only by the audio-dvd. I dont know whether it s an software problem or an hardware defect. But i think the last one is the cause.... I hope some one out there could help us/me

  • Audigy 2 ZS + Vista 64bit resolves in very low maximum volume out

    Hi,
I did just install Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit Edition on my computer.
I've got a CREATIVE Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card, and I downloaded and installed the drivers for it.
I did not run into any complications while installing the driver, but after the driver was successfully installed and I rebooted my computer the first thing that hit me was the fact that the volume output was VERY LOW.
I have to boost my volume to the maximum to even be able to hear my music and games at a decent volume level. The maximum volume output seems to have been reduced with at least 50% compared to what I had with Windows XP Professional.
I've tried to configure every sound settings I can find, but without any luck.
The sound card is completely useless with this low maximum volume output, when I can barley hear my music or in-game sound.
    Is this a common problem?
    Have do I solve it's
I need at least 10% increase in the sound volume, otherwise the sound card is pointless.

Yes I did, I've checked everywhere I can possibly think of. Have boosted everything to the max, but still it's way to low

  • Audigy 2 ZS drivers & 5.1 Medusa Head

I believe I require an older OEM cd image- or just an older driver- for my Audigy 2 ZS, because the one off of my OEM CD (5.2..442) is right behind the latest version (5.2.2.444), and neither are compatible with my Medusa headset (tons of noise distortion- the kind you get when you blow your speakers- at medium volume levels, especially in the rear speakers). The Canadian sales representati've for the makers of the Medusa, Speedlink, forwarded me an email from a guy that once had EXACTLY the same problem until he reinstalled everything, using the original files from his OEM CD. Does anyone have anything I could try? 5.2.3.00 has the same issues, by the way.
The bass redirection software doesn't help at all.
The Speedlink fellow already mailed me another amp & headphone set, but that didn't make a difference. My money's on the CL driver being the problem, but it could be something else. Actually, I'd prefer not having to go back to an older driver because I don't want to miss out on any fixes the newer drivers bring, so hopefully there's a better solution to my problem.

Same problem with the Audigy (first edition). Here's what I've found so far:
If I connect the headset to either the front or rear 5. -output- on the back of the Medusa amplifier, with the amp off, the rear distortion vanishes. I made the connection using the "cable D" that came with the headset.
I've tested this with all three channels (plugging the headset into each front/rear/center output one at a time) to test the distinct speakers in the headset.
No distortion from any of them, but the front and rear speakers are definitely different in terms of bass/treble - the bass seems much stronger from the front headset speakers, and treble is stronger from the rear ones. The rear speakers seem to have a thinner sound overall, possibly part of the distortion problem when connected to the amp.
According to the Medusa manual, the front and rear speakers have the same specs (different from the center and subwoofers), but I'm not so sure after trying this.

  • Audigy 2 ZS Bad Sound. Very low Volu

    Hello,
I'll start out by listing my system hardware. Additionally everything is up-to-date including BIOS, Drivers and Operating System
    MSI nForce 4 Ultra
    AMD Athlon 3000+
    2GB of RAM (4x52)
    Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
    Microsoft Windows XP SP2
I don't think the rest of the configuration settings are needed...
My problem is as follows. Recently after a restart I noticed that the sound was really low while watching a DVD. I turned up the volume not only on the computer but also the CreativeWorks THX 550 speaker system I have. I was then able to hear the sound; however it sounded like the volume was maxed on the computer, distorted, but the overall decibel volume was low. Of course I thought it was a connectivity issue. I tried many things. My first attempt was to check the cabling. My next step was to relocate the PCI Card. I disconnected and reconnected everything. My third attempt was to put it in a different computer... Here's the interesting part. I don't have any other PC's available at the moment only two linux boxes and a Mac. So I took an older sound card I had (Sound Blaster Li've) and plugged it into my PC. Same issue! The overall decibel volume was low, yet the sound was distorted as if the volume was to loud.
My next step went along the lines of testing sound on the board. I went into the BIOS and enabled my onboard sound card. That worked fine. I then reinstalled the Audigy Card. After installing I tried to see if sound was being processed correctly. Now I"m not an expert on this but I would assume sound passing through the card is emulated directly out through the Digital Out. I hooked it into my Digital Optical Recei'ver and everything worked find... That's not a solution. The Audigy has a little latency issue.
I've tried reinstalling drivers, changing my overclocking from off to full to dynamics in between. I'm at a lost here. One would think this is a PCI issue; perhaps maybe IRQ... But I doubt it.Message Edited by SIRKGM4vg on 07-29-200703:8 PM

First unistall Creative stuff through add remove programs.
Next run Guru3D driver sweeper and double check the log for failed removals.
Next uninstall Creative hardware in Windows device manager. (also tick "delete the driver software for this device")
After that, you should have deleted everything!
As for "the best drivers", both are (the same but) different and it depends on what you want to use your card for. Both work fine wth ALchemy and both get the job done.
daniel_k's latest drivers have equalizer, louder volume and advanced CMSS. daniel_K also has a few hybrid ISO with DVD audio, MIDI and other valuable applications. They don't always perform as they should though for obvious reasons (NO OFFICIAL CREATIVE VISTA SUPPORT - XP applications - No Hardware Audio).
nomoregoatsoup are just recent X-Fi drivers and a basic Creative Audio console. They offer improved sound quality over the official version and also offer limited DTS/SPDIF options like the Dell counterparts.
All current Audigy Vista drivers are inferior compared to XP ones.
