Menu shortcuts

Does any one know how to add a menu shortcut to the following code??
openMenuItem = new JMenuItem("Open File");
openMenuItem.addActionListener(this);
fileMenu.add(openMenuItem);

openMenuItem.setAccelerator(KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_O, ActionEvent.CTRL_MASK)); // Control-O
openMenuItem.setMnemonic(KeyEvent.VK_O); // for use with alt-menu selection... Alt-F, O

  • [cs, cs2, cs3] menu shortcuts howto?

    hi,
    is it possible to add a menu shortcut to a custom plugin menu entry (actioncomponent)? if not, is there a possibility to let the user set a shortcut to an entry?
    best regards

    You can set a shortcut from InDesign menu Edit->Menu shortcuts. This however doesn't work if you are using dynamic menus in your plugins.

  • Firefox desktop and start menu shortcuts were hidden after install - why?

    Hi
    I just installed Firfox 5 and after installing both the desktop shortcut and the start menu shortcut were marked as hidden in windows.
    Anyone else experienced this and have any ideas what could have caused this. It was rather confusing.
    I'm running on a brand new laptop (Dell XPS-17) running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit). The only candidate I can think of is the computer came with McAffee, which I haven't used in years. It was appallingly bad back then but thought I'd give it a chance as Dell gave me 15months free.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I would like to suggest you try these steps to figure out what could be causing this problem.
    1. Run Troubleshooter
    Open the Search and Indexing troubleshooter
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Search-and-Indexing-troubleshooter
    2. Create a new library and include fewer folders for test purpose. Now search for a file from that folder. See if it works.
    Create a new library
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-new-library
    3. Try to rebuild search indexing. Refer the steps from the following article.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-advanced-indexing-options
    Also you may use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to check the issue. The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

  • How send menu shortcut keystroke from child to parent panel

    Hello,
    I have simple question:
    Parent (main) panel has a menubar and menuitems (menu_callbacks), with some shortcut keys (like <F5>, <Ctrl>+<R> etc).
    The task is propagate the keystroke from the child panel to the parent panel when the parent panel is INACTIVE.
    I try to make solution via EVENT_KEYSTROKE and CallPanelCallback(), but this solution doesn't work correctly ...
    Any hits will be appreciated!
    George

    Hi, Roberto,
    you are right, the example of course works correctly.
    I'm such a fool,  - because I thought of the child panels in "user", not the programmatic concept.
    Explanation: the "child" panels are programmed as "top-level panel", I use
    panel = DuplicatePanel (0, gui_dpl_pPoll, title, VAL_KEEP_SAME_POSITION, VAL_KEEP_SAME_POSITION);
    because I want to let the child panel 'float' over whole display ().
    When I change
    panel = DuplicatePanel (main_pMain, gui_dpl_pPoll, title, ...
    the keystroke is propagated correctly .... But the child panel is (of course) cropped to parent panel boundary.
    So I rephrase the question - how to send menu shortcut keystroke (not processed) from one (top-level) panel to another panel?

  • Desktop & Program Menu Shortcuts

    Hi, I just installed iTunes 7.0 & the desktop shortcut and program menu shortcuts don't display the correct icon. I right clicked properties and it isn't a normal shortcut. (I was thinking I could change the icon in the properties part).
    Did anyone else notice this?
    Does anyone know if this is because iTunes 7.0 is geared towards the new Windows OS (64 bit processor)?
    Thanks

    ... okaaaaaay ...
    experimental suggestion here (given that we're less than 24-hours into learning how to troubleshoot 7.0.0.70).
    but that sounds like it's plausible that the registry entries for the standard icons didn't go in properly during the install, and what you're seeing are just the default icons. (when i watched previous upgrades of itunes, i saw the icons come back in two stages ... first the boxy things, and then the proper icons.)
    so, perhaps a repair install of itunes will get those icons in there properly.
    reboot the PC. then go into your Add/Remove programs. click "Change". select "Repair".
    does the repair install drop proper icons in place?

    It could be a new installation of some other software that's causing it.  Like a VST or DX effect or maybe even some Nero product...  This link might help:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/330/330271.html
    The DirectX managers at the bottom of that page should allow you to disable or enable any effect that could cause Audition to fail...
    If that doesn't help then try uninstalling and then deleting or renaming any Audition folders in the %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local folder.  Then install Audition again...
    Still not working?  Then I suggest testing your memory using something like Memtest86, but you'll have to burn a boot CD, DVD or make a bootable floppy disk.  Once you boot from the disc then it's pretty much automatic and might take 15 to 20 min to complete...
    Once you're sure it's not a memory problem then run ScanDisk on all of your drives.  Make sure to select 'Automatically fix file system errors' and 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors'.  If it asks you if you want to perform the scan next time windows starts then click yes, but go through and scan all the other drives before restarting...
    If the memory and hard drive scans don't find anything then I'd say it's your windows installation or possibly an undetected virus... Go and re-install windows.   It would probably take less time to re-install windows then to do all that, but it's better to know your in complete working order...

  • Office Start Menu Shortcuts Keep Vanishing!

    I have Windows 8.1 Enterprise and Office 2013 Professional with all current updates installed.  I prefer to run with Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook on the 'Start Menu' and until recently, this has been working fine.  For the last couple
    of weeks however the shortcuts for Word, Excel and Powerpoint keep vanishing!  Strangely, the Outlook shortcut always remains!  I can go to the all programs display, select them and use 'Pin to Start' and they obligingly appear, I move them into
    the correct group, they stay there for a while and then vanish!  It has even done it in front of my eyes!  The Start Menu appeared to slide off to the right and then slide back.  When it slid back into view, they were gone!
    Has anyone else seen anything like this or have any idea what the problem may be?

    Hi,
    Was your computer in a Domain?
    Please check if there is any schedule or GP to regularity reset Start screen layout.
    Also, consider the corrupted user profile issue, you can check whether this issue also happened on another user account.
    This issue can also be caused by corrupted system components, you can try to use this command to restore healthy:
    Please make sure to run CMD as Administrator:
    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

  • Open menu shortcut

    So, here's the thing. I just switched from PC (never going back). I love my mac, but it's slowing me down a bit. See, I rarely use my mouse. I rely mostly on shortcuts when I'm working. My problems is this:
    I can't figure out how to open the "Edit" menu with a shortcut key. On a PC, if you are using Word and want to "Paste Special..." for instance, you can press "Alt+e" to open the edit menu, and then "s" to select "Paste Special..."
    There's no shortcut key for Paste Special... in Word (and for several other commands). I've tried multiple ways to add that shortcut in (macros, system preference>keyboard...) I can't find anything that works.
    Is there a shortcut key just to open a menu? Is there a way to add a shortcut for a specific command that doesn't have a default one?
    Thanks in advance,
    Greg

    No, Paste Special does not usually have a shortcut. In Excel and Word you must use a menu selection. In all the years I've used the software Paste Special has never had a shortcut.
    If you are looking for a shortcut to display a menubar menu, then you are correct that there is no shortcut for that unless one has been provided by the specific application.
    If you customize a shortcut then you want to do it for the specific application. However, if the application is already using the shortcut, then yours may not work as the application may override the customized shortcut. This is an application problem rather than an OS X problem.
    As a former Windows user, you will need to adapt to the changes between how each OS works. OS X is not identical to Windows. Some features of Windows may not be implemented, while other features may not exist in Windows.
    This is not a "larger problem," but just the fact that these are two different operating systems. If you wish you can request new features or file bug reports and complaints here: Feedback. For individual applications such as Office, you should file your requests through their respective support or feedback pages.

  • PS CS6 install doesn't create Win7 start menu shortcut

    I just did a PS CS6 install, but just the x64 application. The install created an Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CS6 shortcut in the base Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder, but it didn't create a shortcut (or folder+shortcut) for Photoshop. I created my own shortcut, but figured I'd report this.
    Windows 7 x64 system.

    Actually I'm now seeing shortcuts for four new Adobe apps in Start Menu > Programs. The ExtendScript Toolkit CS6 is the only one that shows up in the base Start Menu with red highlighting to indicate a newly installed application. I didn't see the other new shortcuts until I rebooted my system this morning.
    The installed folder for each of the four new shortcuts is:
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
    Shortcut names are:
    Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)
    Adobe Bridge CS6 (64bit)
    Adobe Extension Manager CS6
    Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CS6
    Adobe is inconsistent with where shortcuts are created. I have several Adobe application shortcuts in Start Menu\Programs but I have a couple in a Start Menu\Programs\Adobe folder and the entire CS5 suite's shortcuts in Start Menu\Programs\Adobe Master Collection CS5
    The shortcuts I manually created for Bridge CS6 x64 and Photoshop CS6 x64 are on my desktop and have different names than the ones created by the install.

  • Windows 8 Start Menu Shortcut

    Howdy,
    Prior to Windows 8, I was creating a folder with company name in the Start Menu root and then a subfolder in it for each product.
    Start Menu Root :: XCompany :: Product1
    :: Product2
    :: Product3
    Using the same architecture in Windows 8 and 8.1, it just recognizes root folders in Start Menu and disregards sub folders.
    It means that all my product shortcuts are shown in XCompany folder and ProductX folder is disregarded.
    I checked in Win8 they're here:
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
    Is that behavior expected? Should I force my installer disregard XCompany root folder and just create ProductX folders in the Start Menu folder?
    Or solution is something else?
    Thanks for advise.

    Hi,
    In Windows 8, it can allow 2 level navigation on Start screen/ All apps. And yes, we have to create ProductX folders in the Start Menu folder
    We must create shortcuts for both your XProduct folder and the sub items under this folder.
    For example:
    For local user, Under folder:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

  • Can't Move or Remove iTunes 7 Start Menu Shortcuts

    Once iTunes 7 is installed, it creates a set of program shortcuts in the "start menu > all programs" area. I often reogranize these shortcuts myself post-installation.
    However, when I move or delete the iTunes 7 shortcuts from this area, the next time I start the iTunes program it runs the installation / configuration process again and restores all of the program shortcuts.
    It does not care if I remove the desktop or quick launch shortcuts, but as soon as I change the start menu programs shortcuts it throws a fit and restores them.
    Any fixes / explanations for this, or is it a legit bug?

    This appears to be an intentional "feature" of iTunes 7.
