Merging clips together

I imported 3 separate clips into Imovie. They are actually 3 different commercials i shot. I want to merge them together so i can upload i file to the internet. it doesnt have to have a transition or anything between spots.
I put them in the timeline where it said to drag them but the playhead stops after the first 30 seconds and doesnt continue to play the other 2?
thanks
steve

Hello Stephen,
did you maybe select the first clip, and then hit play? If you select a single clip iMovie will play only that one.

  • Merge clips together

I edited a home movie and now it's in pieces in my project folder. How do I merge some of the clips together?
Also, how do I remove the audio so I can put music to it?
    Thanks!

on export your project gets a single file

  • Can you merge clips together?

I used a green screen and chroma keyer and and all of that stuff to put an object onto another background. In the timeline the object clip is above the background clip obviously, but i want to know if i can merge those to clips so it is all just one. I know this isn't a tutorial place but i can't find the answer anywhere else online.
    Thanks,
    Nate

Not technically, no, but you can "nest" sequences, which essentially does the same thing. Drop the clips into a new sequence, then in the browser, drag that sequence into your first sequence just as you would a clip.

  • Merge 2 clips together

    Hi
I have FCP 5 and I wondered if there is any way of merging to shots together. What I have done is taken two shots in the same place with my camcorder of myself, me being in two differnt places in each shot. I wanted to merge them together so that I get the effect of having two of me in one room. I have already tried with the opacity by the way and that may give me what I want but everything is transparent.
    Thanks....

What Andy said. With Shot one on V1 and Shot 2 two on V2, click on shot two, press the w key til you get image and wireframe, then press the c key (for cropping), hover your mouse over the edge of the canvas to see the cropping tool, click and drag the edge over to reveal the second you.

  • Is there a way to merge videos together with AME, or with other Adobe product(s)?

Ideally, I would like to import three videos into the Adobe Media Encoder for re-encoding and merge them together into only one resulting video file.  Is this possible?

It's currently not possible to do this directly in AME. You'd have to put the clips together in a Premiere sequence or AfterEffects comp and export that sequence/comp to AME. I'm not sure which other apps allow you to essentially stitch together separate clips.

  • Merging clips from an In point without cutting

Hi, I've got a lot of clips to sync but unfortunately no obvious sync points so I kind of have to find my own. The problem I'm facing is that some of these sync points I'm using are halfway through a clip and if I merge them via In point Premiere automatically cuts everything before it (likewise merging via Out point cuts everything after). Is there some way of merging clips but keeping the duration of the sources? Sorry if this has been answered before. I've tried to find information on this but couldn't.
    Thanks
EDIT: In case I haven't worded this properly, my problem is when I create a merged clip from sound and video (or a multicamera sequence), the resulting clip begins from the In point. Nothing before the In point remains.

    Context
Live music event. Audio: Line out from the audio desk to an external recorder. Video: 2 DSLR's. No timecode, no clapperboard. I have to sync the songs together. I COULD layer them and move them frame by frame until it sounds right, but that's inaccurate and a lot of work. OR I could find a nice peak in audio as a sync point, mark an In point and merge. This point might be in the middle of the clip though and the resulting subclip will be missing the first half of the song.
I don't get why Avid doesn't have this problem but Premiere does.

  • Merging Clips? Please help.

Can anybody help me? I need to know if it is possible to merge/overlay/overlap (whatever the right terminology would be) clips in iMovie?
I want to join to clips together so that when the movie plays it looks as though I am both on the left and on the right having a conversation with myself if you get me?
Any help at all would be great! Thanks.

  • Merging clips results in several duplicate audio channels/tracks

I am trying to sync my audio and video in Premiere, and something is screwing it up.
I have my video track, that has 2 audio tracks.
Then I have my polyphonic wav file, that has 5 audio tracks.
    2+5 = 7, right?
So why is it, when I merge my two clips together, that Premiere decides to create 20 additional tracks for my Merged Clip, totaling 27 tracks?! The majority of them are blank/empty/silent. Why is it doing this?

I don't understand this part of your explanation. It's been a while since I've used PE, since FCPX's sync and multicam features work so well.
Why not try a short test – skipping the PE steps entirely. Select two of your clips and let FCP automatically create a test multiclip matching the HVX waveforms with those on the 5D. Open in the Angle Editor – or start a test project and see whether the boom mic track is present.

  • Merging clips in HD 6

Is there any way to merge two or more clips together - within a movie project.
If not... can I take clips, put into timeline, and export into something that would accomplish this...
    Thanks.
    David

    Hi
Merging clips - is very rarely needed - it will playback cont. without any drop-out
Easy way to do this is.
    • Add the duration of the two clips together
    • To them in TimeLine add a text
    • This text should be one letter "Space" = invisibly
    • Duration of text - set the added figure above
    • Drop selected text type on first clip
Now they are merged into one clip
    alt
    • QT movie as previous answer
    • Copy back to Camera/tape - Then import BUT IN iMovie pref set "not to import as individual clips"
    Will also do the trick.

  • Trim mode with merged clips

I'm cutting a feature film on FCP 5.0.4 editing 23.98 NTSC DVCAM. The audio was recorded on a hard disk recorder with independent timecode and the clips were merged using slates.
If I enter trim mode by double clicking on the video track (with the purpose of trimming only the video track) and change the duration by clicking on the +/-1 or 5 frame buttons, the picture will suddenly jump by 5 or 6 seconds and the white "out shift" or "in shift" numbers will jump 5 or 6 seconds as well. Dynamic trimming has the same problem.
However, the actual edit made is correct, it's just impossible to see what frame I'm on without playing it back or getting out of trim mode. If I trim the audio and video tracks together then everything works as it should.
Has anyone seen this problem before? Know how to fix it? I couldn't find anything in the archives.

I created a new user account and trashed my preferences and I have the same problems. I created a new project, and new sequences. Same problems.
It only happens with 23.98 (batch reverse telecined using Cinema Tools) NTSC DV clips that have been merged with separate 24-bit 48 khz Quicktime audio clips (converted from BWF using BWF2XML). Clips that were captured from the tape with audio and video simultaneously don't have this problem. The discrepancies between the actual amounts trimmed and the white numbers in the trim windows are consistent. If it's off by 6:10 on a clip, every time I try to trim that clip it will be off by the same amount. But the number varies from clip to clip. It's generally 5-8 seconds.
If I try to trim only the audio, I don't have any trouble. If I trim the audio and video at the same time I don't have any trouble. It's only when I trim the video on its own. If I use the original video clip before it's merged with an audio track then it trims fine. If I cut the merged clip into a sequence then delete the audio track from the sequence the problem remains.

  • How to merge projects together in iMovie08

Hello. I want to know how I can merge my completed projects together to create one movie in iMovie08.
I tried creating a new project and then copying and pasting the different projects into that one, but it didn't work. I'm not sure what to do.
I'm trying to make a birthday gift for a very good friend, so if anyone knows how to help, I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm pretty new to mac, so please try to explain in lammens terms

welcome ktp2040 to the  iMovie boards..
'merging projects' is beyond concept of iM08 ..
    your options are..
    1) why not keeping the projects separate? an iDVD created videoDVD can contain up to 120min of video.. so, each project is a selectable 'item' in the DVDs menu.. I like that better than 'Ben Hur II' ..
    2) re-edit a master piece.. your clips and Events are still intact.. try to remember your projects as 'blueprint' and now use ALL material in ONE project.. (re-edit is never fun.. I know)
    2) 'Export with Quicktime...' each project and choose 'dv-stream' or, if harddrive is big enough, 'Apple Intermediate Codec' as Quicktime export option.. re-import the files (1 project = 1 file) and stick these few 'clips' together into one new 'director's cut' ...
you'll probably notice a slight degradation of pic quality ..

  • Creating merged clips from the timeline not working, any advice?

I am syncing HDV video captured with guide audio, with four track audio recorded onto a Hard Disk Recorder. I need to sync in the timeline as there is not always a clap, but there is plenty of guide sound with the picture. I want to make a merged clip that I can then work with.
I bring everything in - sync it - and highlight everything but find that the link command is dimmed, it is not available.
The 4 track audio, and the video with guide sound both come in to the timeline already linked so I tried unlinking them when I first paste them into the timeline and making them independent clips, before I synced them together but that made no difference. The linking tool (Modify-Link) is dimmed and thus when I drag them into the browser they become many different files, instead of one merged clip. Can anyone suggest a reason why this is not working for me?
I'm running Final Cut Pro 5.0.4
    thanks very much..

I think I can answer my own question. It seems that several separate files were made in the audio but only one take made in the video, and FCP will not allow the clips to be linked if I'm trying to link one take of video with three files of audio (pasted onto the timeline one after the other under the video). But If I cut the video and link the segments one at a time then I can merge the clips independently. It's not ideal but it makes sense.

  • Mashing small clips together to make one large one!?

i figured ou thow to do this once, but now i cant remember.
i need to mesh a bunch of small clips together to make a large one so i can do a longer transition.

.. if You had some short clips and applyed a text on them.
And the text just using some spaces (no letters) then it would merge the
    clips together...
never tried (.. never needed.. ), but a clever one!!

  • Merge clips and preserve audio clip names?

    Hey Guys,
I'm about to start editing a new project of mine that I just shot.  I used Premiere to edit my last project and loved it, save one problem I had after using the "Merge Clips" feature to sync my audio.  In order to save time, I used Merge Clips to sync my picture and sound rather than do it manually.  The feature worked really well, but I didn't notice until it came time to export my OMF that the "Merge Clips" feature had renamed all of my audio clips to the same name as the video clip it was sunc to.  This resulted in many broken links in the OMF.
Is there any way to use "Merge Clips" or a feature similar to it, that preserves the names and metadata of the master clips you're syncing?  I might just do it all by hand to be safe.
    Thanks,
    Joe

I do believe we've uncovered (yet another) bug. For the life of me, I couldn't get a video to sync to its respective WAV. The audio from both sources was clean and clear; if Premiere couldn't auto sync this, it couldn't sync anything...
Then the funny part: it could sync everything else together perfectly (DSLR, GoPro, HDV). I must admit I was impressed, GoPros record fairly horrible audio- but Premiere managed to sync them  accurately and quickly with the other cameras. It just treated the external audio as foreign and refused it.
Can someone from Adobe chime in? I'm here for questions.

  • Sync problem with Merge Clips options in PP CC

    Hello
First post in the Adobe Communities! I'm glad to be a port of it
I'm editing a short film and I've started using the Merge Clips option to do the syncing of image and sound, together with the "In Points" option as the Synchronize Point. When I sync material I like it to be exact and perfect, therefor I use the Audio Time Units option to do so, to insert my in-points, but when I Merge Clips the result isn't as exact as I told it to be, the audio clips are slightly out of sync, very slightly but annoyingly, and it seems to ignore my workflow, or adjust it self or something. I was wondering if the Merge Clips option supports when you use Audio Time Units option to set the in-points for syncing, or if there is any other option or work-around to get the syncing perfect. OR, is it suppose to be like this when syncing? I hope not. I'm not sure but I think I hear an echo effect in the merged clip as well, very minimal though.
The screenshots are zoomed in on with the "Show Audio Time Limits" option on.
I want it to be like this...
...But it end up like this when I Merge Clips
Thanks for reading, hoping someone can help me out!
    Best Regards,
    Daniel

Thanks, I suppose I can start batch-converting my mjpg movies before importing them inte PE7, if that would make this problem disappear. I'll try that (I have FormatFactory installed, but VirtualDub seems like a nice tool if that is better), although that would make the process a bit more long-winded...
Regarding GSPOT info on a file that works and one doesn't, there are typically no difference between them (except length and content, of course). In fact, as I mentioned above, the same movie did not work until I did some reinstalling, clearing caches etc. Then the same movie suddenly worked OK again.
I attach the GSPOT info on that file.
(I never had this problem on my older XP system that run PE2...).
I will try converting to see if the problem disappears.
    Thanks!
