Message sent in Mail

Can I find out if a sent message has been received and read? Thanks

Yes, and No. For any message you've already sent, the answer is a definite No.
But if the people you're sending to use Microsoft Windows and Outlook as their email client, the answer may be Yes. That's because Outlook supports sending Read Receipts, but the user must have it enabled; if they don't, you're not goiing to get notified of anything. But you can request a Read Receipt on future emails, but it will be on all of them. To do that:
Start Terminal and copy/paste this command in to the window:
defaults write com.apple.mail UserHeaders '{"Disposition-Notification-To" = "[email protected]"; }'
where [email protected] is your email address where you want to get those receipts, if any.
*Note: you will need to use the arror keys to move back to the point at which you enter your email address, then move to the end of the line before pressing Enter or Return and quitting Terminal.*
Restart Mail and you're set.

    How can I make a rule to mark all messages sent to Mail Trash as Read?
    When I look at some emails on my phone, I can see from the title that I don't need to read the email so I delete it without opening it. When I go to my Macbook Pro and open mail, the number of unread messages in my Trash shows next to the name. It drives me nuts. Can I just set a rule to mark all messages sent to trash as read? If that isn't possible, I'd take just making the number not show beside the Trash folder.

    Just in the case that I actually do need to go back to them for some reason. I have some OCD tendencies which is also why the number beside the folder drives me nuts.

  • Blank Email Messages Sent from Mail to Some Recipients!

    When I send email, using Apple Mail, I'm told that the body of my messages appear completely blank (although my address and the subject line do come through). I've narrowed it down to people who have hotmail, msn, and earthlink accounts.
    I have tried on both my MacBook Pro and older G4. They both have this problem. I also have 4 email accounts, all through different services, and again all have this problem.
    I am using some CSS in my signatures, but when I don't use a signature I still have this problem.
    Any ideas on what the issue might me. Thanks in advance.

    Hi ideaspring
    I compared your plist to mine. There were many differences naturally, but some stand out in my opinion:
    I found the following in your plist, but no in mine:
    EncryptOutgoingMessages = 1;
    I'm not sure, what this is, but I believe you might have installed a .Mac certificate and set you .Mac account to use this certificate to encrypt or just sign your messages.
    I played with that some time ago: the problem was: windows mail clients had to go through quite a hassle to verify my cert, while Mail.app users were fine.
    I found the following in my plist, but not in yours.
    SendFormat = Plain;
    SendWindowsFriendlyAttachments = 1;
    AttachAtEnd = 1;
    The first can be set in Preferences > Composing, the second and third via the Edit Menu > Attachments > Always...
    It would be helpful, if you could narrow the problem down to one of your mailboxes and one recipient, who is willing to help you testing. Even if it happens to all your mailboxes and some recipients, it would be good, if we could find a way of always reproducing the symptom.

  • Display of RE: and FW: messages generated in mail.app

    II am the sole Mac user in a 100+ person company. (I run the company so IT tolerates me.) After receiving many complaints about unpredictable display of FW: and RE: messages sent from mail.app (leopard and snow leopard), I gave up and converted to Outlook '11. Hated it. Airplane pilots have fewer buttons, ribbons, etc., on their control panels. So, I'm back to Mail.app and newly determined to solve, or at least understand, the issue.
    Posting what I've discovered here in the hope someone can shed light on it or, better yet, fix it.
    What I discovered is that a message with embedded graphics in it (e.g., a company logo .gif embedded in a signature) generated in mail.app will display very differently in different email clients and settings.
    In iphone (iOS 4) the message renders perfectly. No issue.
    In Mail.app received via exchange, the message also appears to render perfectly. No issue.
    However, it's a different story in Outlook '08 for Windows and '11 for Mac) BUT ALSO in Mail on the iPad. AND also if the message is viewed from the sent items folder in the very application (Mail.app) in which it was created. Here's what happens.
    Text before the embedded image is rendered correctly. But after that, everything is displayed as an attachment. The embedded image is displayed an attachment. So too is any text that follows it. (ATT0001.htm). If there are multiple embedded images with text in between them, you'll get a string of attachments (image001.gif, ATT0001.htm, image002.gif, ATT0002.htm, etc.)
    (Note that I have already done everything I know to make things clean and windows friendly. Mail.app is set to windows friendly attachments. Iconizer is installed. Mail.app is also set to send re: and fw: messages at the same level to avoid formatting issues different levels might create. )
    I'm not a coder, but I did take a look at the source code. What I noticed is that mail.app treats a message with embedded graphics very differently than one without. A message with just text (even when sent as HTML format) is just text. A message with embedded graphics has the first bit (before the first graphic) as text, then the first graphic, then, the next bit of text is an HTML file, and so on. Apparently, mail on the iphone can recognize this and render properly. Not so others. The question is why Mail turns text bits into HTML files this way?
    Now, the good news is, having isolated the problem, I've solved most of it by simply eliminating embedded graphics (including a logo in my signature) from my emails. Still, I often forward or re: to long strings that do include these graphics. Not so good.
    Thoughts?

    IMO, if you want to send magazines, then e-mail isn't the vehicle. Better to create PDF files and send them as attachments. This problem you're running into has to do with poorly followed standards in all those e-mail clients and attempting to send magazines as messages. Stick to plain text and there aren't any issues. • E-mail messages sent, are received not in the paragraph-form as sent, but

    Dear Friends,
    E-mail messages sent, are received not in the paragraph-form as sent, but are broken-up into small segments, one line finely printed, the next line may appear with just two or three words printed on it, then the next line will show a few words at the end of it, while the next line appears as the start of another paragraph, and so on and on and on. So that the original message, although sent in the one paragraph-form, winds up being received as several paragraphs, each broken up into several segments. My contacting Apple has produced no solution thus far. I am new at this computer business and would greatly appreciate any help you can give me on this score. Thanking you in advance for your interest and kind help.

  • I have another problem with my restored sent e-mail messages

    I like to back up my mail on my MacBook Pro. Ever since I restored my sent e-mail messages on my iMac using its TM, I copy my mail folder on my MacBook Pro but the sent messages doesn't work on my MBP.
    I think that I know the cause is, on my external drive it says: Backup for Steve's iMac. I think that means the backups will only work for my iMac.
    So here's my question, is there anyway to change my sent e-mail messages to universal so they will work both in my iMac and my MBP again?
    BTW, although I have time capsule for my MBP but I use mail exclusively on my iMac. So at the end of the day I just copy my iMac's mail folder into my MBP and only I start my mail application in my MBP is to make sure that all of the changes are there. I do this day after day.
    So the changes come from my iMac, do you know what I mean?

    Sounds like a permission problem, but I can't be sure.
    You may benefit from MobileMe to sync your email instead of copying and pasting.
    Just a thought.

  • TS3899 I send an e-mail message from my iPhone 5c and it shows up in Sent folder as a duplicate, 2 of the same e-mail messages sent at the same time.

    I send an e-mail message from my iPhone 5c and it shows up in Sent folder as a duplicate message. 2 identical messages sent at the same time. What's up with this? Tried Apple Support by phone, and did a couple of troubleshoots, then my connection with Apple Support was cut off. Issue not resolved yet.

    Did the mail get sent? Is the only issue the fact that it appears twice in the Sent folder?

  • After importing received and set messages from Opera Mail, Thunderbird works fine but does not save sent messages to Sent folder, even though messages are sent

    I successfully imported messages from Opera Mail. Initially the Sent mailbox was not showing in Thunderbird. A quick removal and fresh installation solved that, but Thunderbird does not save the sent messages to the Sent box, where the imported Opera Mail messages are stored. Even though messages are not saved, they are sent correctly. The image attached shows the error message.

    Probably a name-confuse If you store sent on mailserver it has to have the right name. (subscribe)
    You could set up under Account settings / copies and folders (maps) Sent pointing to the right local folder.

    Sankar, your outbound send connector has an address space of *. So when you run "Get-SendConnector", you will see something like the following:
    Identity                                AddressSpaces
    Enabled
    Unix System Connection                  {SMTP:*.domfreebusy.contractor.hunti... True
    Outgoing SMTP Connector
    {SMTP:*;10}                             True
    Mailbox Journaling Connector            {SMTP:pdwastap01.huntington.com;1}      True
    The middle one with the {SMTP:*;10} in my case (you may have a different number than 10 in yours) is my outbound connector. So yours will show an address space of {SMTP:*;<some number, 10 is the default>}. HTH ...

    Email seems to be sent, but it doesn't arrive. No 'unable to send' message, sent items and draft folders are empty. The mail disappears. I tried to fully turn off the iPad and have it restart. But it doesn't go off. I keep seeing the small white 'turning wheel' untill the battery is gone. After that, it works again (and so does the e-mail). This happens about every week. What can I do?

    *there's no reason to be paranoid*
    Says Mulder .
    Anyway, as I mentioned, I don't use any sync-able email, just a very plain-jane POP email provider. iSync reports no devices and has nothing in its log, which matches my never having installed anything in need of syncing.
    The thing is, if Mail says its sending something when nothing was ever sent, that's a largish bug whether it is actually sending something or isn't, and there isn't really enough info here to know which of those are the case. Maybe Mail just displays "Sending" because an attempt to do something reasonable is timing out, maybe it does an innocuous and normal POP thing using very confusing nomenclature, or maybe it's really trying to send something which has a wrong flag or something. There isn't really enough info to know what is going on, so I was hoping someone could identify the symptoms.

  • HT201320 Can't find my sent e-mail messages

    Hello All-
    I have my e-mail set up, but, I cannot see my outbox, or drafts, only my inbox.
    Thanks,
    Dee Anna

    Scroll down in the Mail app to the Accounts section and tap on the account name.
    Note that unless you have an MS Exchange, iCloud or IMAP account you will not see messages sent from your computer, only those you send from the phone. And even for those there will be nothing there until you open the folder, which causes it to sync with the server.

  • E-mail messages sent from Dynamics CRM

    Hi,
    I have Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online (recently updated to version 2015) integrated with Microsoft Office 365 midsize business so we also use Exchange Online on the same domain.
    Is it possible, when I send an e-mail from CRM, to see it also in the Sent Items of my Mailbox?
    It seems that they are not "integrated" even if the system is in fact the same!

    hello sanjaykaul, that won't be possible - once an email leaves your mail server it is no longer under your control.

    Interesting db mail issue. If i click send test mail from sql mgmt studio, it works fine, but when i execute a SP to send a mail, it fails. One thing I noticed is that the "LastModified" column in the mail log shows the domain account when a test
    mail was sent from mgmt studio, but show "sa" when the SP was used to send mail.
    This is from SQL 2012, did not see this in sql 2008, looks like 2008 always used the service account.  any ideas ?

    Thanks.

    Hi Ranga,
    I also use SQL Server 2012. I send a test email through SQL Server Management and the last modified By “sa”.
    If you used stored procedure to send a test email. Please use the command below:
    EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail
    @profile_name = 'Adventure Works Administrator',
    @recipients = '[email protected]',
    @body = 'The stored procedure finished successfully.',
    @subject = 'Automated Success Message' ;
    I can both send test email through SQL Server Management Studio and SP. Make sure you have the right profile. Since you could send test mail via SQL Server Management Studio, please try again to send it via SP.
    Thanks.
