Messaging on iPad 2 showing numbers not names

How do I fix messaging to show names instead of numbers?

I synced my ipad 2 with itunes and updated and now the correct email address is showing when I purchase an app.
I also synced my iphone but the account is still showing one device associated with icloud.
Anything else I can do? Thanks so much.

Had same problem and was able to restore names in the text message by going to Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendars> then change Default Account to iCloud.

To get rid of the message and use your iPad normally again:
Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

You can only iMessage iDevices.
You need 3rd party apps to text your Galaxy Note.

I have At&T, after upgrade all most of text appear as numbers not names

I have noticed that if you go to the edit button, and if you haven't deleted any of the texts from that number.>tick Edit> tick on one of the texts circles> Delete it> Scroll up to top of all texts, and a Add Contact will appear//Create New or Add to Existing.
Hope that's what you need.

Do you have the person's name in your contacts? For the name to show, the person's name and phone number need to be in your contacts.

Have deleted messages from iPad, why showing up on iMac?

OK. This is a tricky one. Mostly doing iMessage on my iPad during the week, and I delete them after the days converstations. When I go onto my iMac on Saturdays at home, iMessage pops up and starts to load all the iMessages from the week. When I delete them from my iPad, doesn't Apple delete them from their servers? This is scary. I have iMessage prefernces set to always be online so I dont have to open the app while on iMac.
Also another side question, when on iMac, new message comes in and it does not get linked to my contacts? Like it says new message from +1 (555)555-5555 and not the Person who is associtated with that number.

That is the way messages works in its current status. You have to delete the messages from each individual device. Apple may add a feature to delete from all devices, but at this time it is not possible.

You have to make sure you have that exact number linked to your contacts on the imac. Do you use iCloud contacts?

OS X 10.8.4 - Hard drives and USB drives showing up as numbers, not names.

It used to display as "System" for my main hard drive, and "Media" and "Time Machine" for my USB drives but since recently they only ever show as "57.80", "-263" and "60+000/=76" respectively.
Reboots don't show them as they should be. They appear like this in finder, desktop and disk utility.
Any way to get it so their names show instead?

Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting, but don’t remove the context.

Current iCloud account name is very old from previous e-mail provider; and iPad continuously showing "account not verified" on a 1 yr. old account that show it is verified in apple system ????

Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

Hi,
Check in iTunes under the ringtones tab (with the phone connected) that the custom tones are ticked then sync your phone. This has happened to me in the past.

New iPad air 2, numbers not compatible with iphone

I have just upgraded my iPad first generation to a new iPad Air.2. I have a problem with numbers spreadsheets which I access using my iPad and iPhone via iCloud. The iPhone is a 3GS with ios6 and the latest version of Numbers it will load is version 2. The new iPad air comes loaded with Numbers version 3.
If I amend a spreadsheet with the iPad then I cannot open it with the iPhone. I have been on apple chat and they say I cannot downgrade the numbers app to version 2 on the iPad. Only solution they can come up with is to buy a later iPhone.
my question is
Apple say that numbers version 2 cannot be put on the iPad air. Does anyone know if there is a way of putting an old version of Numbers or iWork's on a new iPad.

I have tried using the free app iSpreadsheet. It loaded Ok on iPhone 3gs and new iPad and appeared to sync via iCloud but I did not fully check this. The main problem is that the spreadsheet is limited to 50 rows so is no good for me.
Work around I am going with is to upload spreadsheet from new iPad to Dropbox in exel format. Then download from dropbox to Adobe reader on iPhon. I have found that Adobe reader is quicker reading the exel format file than converting it to PDFs. Seems odd that a pdf reader is better at reading xls files than pdf files but there you go.
i have not mentioned in the above but I have a Mac with numbers version 2 also linked to iCloud. This cannot be upgraded to numbers version 3 without an upgrade to the operating system. I also have excel on the Mac so I am going to look at putting the free exel app on the new iPad so that at least I can sync it with the Mac.

i have setup my XMLForms with the system property name as the title.
when viewing that in the KM folder, i see the title and not the GUID (e.g. 40035a63-04dd-2c10-9ebe-b772175396b9.xml).
The properties of this document shows me that the name is setup correctly.
Under the tab "Access paths" i see the ID with thev value of the GUID.
When I search for the document, the search result is using the GUID and not the Name.
The Search Result Renderer is using:
rnd:displayname(contentLink)
What do I have to use instead to get the name and not the ID (GUID)?

I developed an application to lookup in the KM and had the same problem as yours. I was using <IResourceObject>.getName() which returned the GUID of the xml form builder. I had to switch my method to the getDisplayName() which retrieved the display name of the xml form and not the GUID.
getDisplayName() worked just fine for me. Also under the properties of the xml forms, the DisplayName showed under Name and GUID under ID.

Homeshare iPad TV Shows now not listing correctly on device (Impossible to select anything)

I have a major issue (Since the last iPad (2nd Gen) Firmware Update 3 days ago) - I have around 389 TV Shows (7,858 Episodes) all worked fine until 3 days ago. I can now only see (visible) 6 Shows on my iPad using Homeshare, and 99.8% of my TV episodes are nowALL listed under the first Icon. i.e. A list of around 7,800 episodes all in one huge list !!!
My iTunes library is perfect, and I take every care to ensure it is always correct. My Movie collection is fine (1,700 of them) - This is incedibly frustrating as it took Apple around 3 years to sort a similar historic problem, which was only resolved with IOS 8.0.
It also now takes twice as long to load the library !
Running all of the latest iPad firmware and iTunes versions (Windows 7)

Favorite contacts appear as only numbers, no names.

After iOS8 update, my iPhone 5's Favorites show only numbers, not names. They also do not appear in my Contacts list. All other Contacts appear as they should. I am able to call and message all my Contacts.

your post got me to thinkin - in fact I do have memory of having rxd some texts from ATT - these were inititated by them - and have even rxd spam texts from unknown sources- which ended up in the list as "numerical contacts"
I deleted those.....
Now as far as narrowing down - seems like there must be some link from the senders end between their "text name" and their associated number... which makes me wonder - what if they send u a text but don't bother to setup the "text name" stuff ? if they were a stranger on my radar I wouldn't have their contact info...
So perhaps it gets down to whether or not I initiated the conv
if I didn't - yet still put them into my Macbook Pro's Address Book
one might presume the iPhone's text app is smart enough to link that strange phone number to a contact
Perhaps an oversite on the programmers part ?
