Messenger bag advice

Ok, I have a 12 inch power book. i would like to find a great messenger bag/laptop bag. I'm looking for something that looks cool, and trendy. I have looked at the swiss cases, and the ogio caes (which also look really nice). But I'm wondering if you guys have any suggestions for a nice case/messenger bag. I want to have some great padding/protection for my powerbook, also I would also like to be able to transport my sprial notebooks, some papers, etc, maybe my ipod. What do you guys suggest. I think the ones I have seen say something like "supports up to a 17 inch laptop" which makes the space inside a bit big and my 12 inch slids around. It would be nice if the ogio cases made something just for the 12 inch, but they dont'. Anyways please give me lots of advice. Some brands, good websites to buy from, etc. Thanks so much!

try these companies. Timbuk2 and Acme
Timbuk2 has a nice Laptop Grip sleve thats just the right size for the laptop alone with that tiny pocket which can be used for a ipod. (but is meant for change and little things like headphones). Its great because its very well padded and can be thrown into a regular backpack. I've had mine for over a year without any problems. Also take a look at some of their other products while you're there.

i've seen ACME's bags at the Sony store and they look great as well with more color choices.

  • Anyone have any luck finding a messenger bag that fits a Y70

So I bought a Y70 and I love it, but for the life of me, I cant find a messenger bag on amazon that is actually large enough to hold it and a charger and a few accessories.  I can only find the one Lenovo recommends, and while it does hold the laptop, I dont really care for its ability to carry much else.  Everyone keeps suggesting the timbuck2 classic bag in extra large, but it seems they do not make it anymore.  Any input would be awesome.

Need a Leather Messenger bag for 17" Macbook Pro .. any suggestions?
I cant seem to find a nice one .. I am traveling soon and would like to have it before I go away ....
I would like something with some protection and ... something stylish  ...
I have had a hard time finding a nice one ...

There is a difference technically between this iStorage unit and the Cal Digit stuff. Cal Digit includes a hardware raid controller, and removable drives. The iStorage Pro unit relies on your computer's CPU to control the raid... so will tax things like render times... plus just to play a software raid can take as much as 30% of your CPU's cycles to do it...
That said, it may not matter if you're working in lower resolution files, or lower data rate stuff, either company makes great gear though. Both are intended for use with video systems. But ya do get something for the extra money on the CalDigit gear.
But if all you want to use it for is backup of data... anybody's drives would do this... doesn't have to be a raid either. Single FW drives will certainly hold the data as backup even if they won't play it without dropping frames.

  • Can anyone recommend a good messenger bag for a macbook air 13?

Can anyone recommend a good messenger bag for a macbook air 13"?

    I agree with Shldr,
I have a MBA 11" and a MBA 13", and use that one for my 13" Air, and the smaller version for my 11".
I have spent at least $600 chasing down the perfect bag(s). There isn't one, AFAIK. The Incase bags are my favorite.
I do prefer the older version of that bag though (a single velcro flap for the double compartment side). The new version holds a tad less. (I gave my new version to my MIL), and use the older one I have.

  • MBP 13" body is flexing in my bag, rocking on a flat surface

New MBP 13" which I carry around in a bike messenger bag that slings over the back like a backpack might. This means that the macbook is placed slightly across the arch of my spine as I ride. I have found after only 2 days that the machine rocks gently across two rubber feet when placed on a flat surface.
Now, I am only talking a millimetre or two tops here and as it warms up it does tend to settle back into place again. I have read that this is an issue for Air owners due to the thin nature of the device and the advice given by many users was simply "place it over your leg and gently push down on the opposite corners" which although something that works appears to be plain bad for such a compact piece of hardware.
Simply I wonder if this is a known aspect of the unibody design, and if anyone with experience in the situation could say how this might end up effecting the insides of the machine. The flex is minimal, and laptops are designed to withstand being moved about, but I have no insurance on this thing and can only rely on the 3 years of AppleCare should something go wrong in there.
    Thanks for any info, all.

It genuinely is the case, and not at all hard to cause. Unless my MBP is shockingly defective structurally.
    Let me explain more accurately.
My bag is a chrome mini metro (if you wish to see how this works) which has a strap design which holds the bag diagonally across the back with the opening starting at left shoulder and ending by the bottom right rib. The MBP is just long enough to fill this space nearly all the way across and as such will have a diagonal divide across the base against my back with say the back left corner near my left shoulder and the front right corner down toward my right rib, like the bag.
I think what happens is any tug on the strap (light as that may be) causes pressure to be on the front left and back right corners so the flex is again diagonally over my back. This I establish from the way the bag sits and that the MBP rocks very slightly on those two corners feet when on a flat surface (glass desk, table, workstation desks at work etc) so that the back left and front right feet may leave the desk alternately.
Interestingly this only appears possible on in that direction and not rocking across the other two which makes me suspect the framework inside the body is slightly weaker in that direction due to the way it has to contain asymmetric insides.
So when I say flexing the other direction I mean pushing gently on the two corners that rock up and down flattens it out. We are talking a millimetre here, perhaps two. And the pressure applied to reset the shape is less than I would even apply by resting on the machine to type so you can see very minimal effort is required from the bag or my hands.. But yes, I am really worried about this happening either way.
When I say it settles after a while, this is probably due to it's own weight and my hands on it, the pressure really only needs to be that gentle.

  • W530 Computer Travel Bag Suggestion

Hello, Thanks everyone for the great information found on this forum! I just ordered a W530 to replace a 5 year old T61 and had a quick question: Can anyone recommend a good ballistic nylon computer bag that will hold the W530 and the monster 170W AC Adapter? I have looked a the ThinkPad Business Topload Case and a Targus Zip Thru 15.6" Traveler but it is difficult to tell if it has room for the power adapter.

I'm using the Sleevz from Radtech in black for my 13" Air.
From my research last September, these were the sleekest and sickest ones I could find (at the time). Also, the price doesnt burn a hole in your pocket!
Radtech also has a range of messenger bags and back packs you could check out, but I'd definitely recommend the Sleevz!

  • Best Thin Case/Bag for MacBook Air 13"

Just purchased (and eagerly anticipating the arrival of) a 13" Air. Now I need to decide on a new case/bag for my Air as my previous bag for my ancient 17" laptop would be a bit superfluous... The most difficult thing about picking one out is being unable to try them out in person other than the standard ones that stores carry which aren't exactly tailored to the Air's uniquely thin profile. Basically what I'm looking for is a case or bag that will safely and securely hold my new Air, as well as a decent amount of extras (i.e. power adapter, superdrive, g-tech slim external hard drive, usb wireless internet modem, a small CAC Smart Card reader,) but still remain as thin as possible and be decently aesthetically pleasing.
So, does anyone have any recommendations based on personal experience? Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.
To give you an idea of what I'm looking for, below are two links to cases that look like they might possibly do the trick:
    Kenneth Cole Top Zip Sleeve
    WaterField Designs Macbook Air Wallet
    MacCase Jacket

Well, looks like I found my solution(s)
I'm going to get the following bag:
    Targus 13.3" Radius Messenger Bag
And possibly couple it with the following hard sleeve:
Waterfield Design MacBook Air Smart Case
The Targus bag looks extremely well designed (saw it in person today) and very purpose built, as well as pretty high quality construction. It got extremely good reviews from fellow Apple users, so I'll pull the trigger on that tomorrow and give an update. I figure I'll couple it with the Waterfield Smart Case for those times when I can't/don't want to lug the entire messenger bag around (plus, it's pretty **** stylish )

  • Laptop Case for 17 unibody. Opinions please

I was hoping a few here might be able to recommend a laptop case for the 17 MBP.
I would like a case that i can work out of and basically leave the computer in the case most of the time if thats possible. Ive Looked at the mactruck by radtech as maybe 1 choice.
My use requires alot of moving the computer from one spot to another so the thought of taking it in and out of case would shorten the life of the computer. I could literally take the computer in and out of a case 5 times in one day alone.
Any links or advice be greatly appreciated.

Please do a search we have lots and lots and lots of threads on cases here.
With a mac, it doesn't matter how many times you take it into and out of your bag during the day -- so that should be the least of your worries. Whatever you get, makes sure it surrounds your laptop on all sides, including the top -- some trendy messenger bags for laptops for example don't cushion the top at all.
Good luck with your bag search. You will get lots of opinions. There isn't one single option that works for everyone, and some of us have spent our mac portable lives seeking the perfect bag and still don't have the one that fits all needs....
Companies that particularly cater to Mac portables include:
    Timbuk2
    InCase
    Brenthaven
    SFBags.com (waterfield bags)
    Booq

  • What is the best Case/Cover/Sleeve for the iPad 2!! or combination!!

Ok, I am literally lost with all the varaities out in the market....
Now putting the Smart Cover aside... what do you think guys is the best iPad 2 case, cover, sleeve or anything... something that is slim nothing bulgy!!
or any combination of the above even with the Smart Cover...
    what do you think guys
    Thank you for the advice
    S.

I use my iPad in some high risk situations (a classroom/my studio/field work) as well as just sitting on the couch or out on the patio. I like to "layer" so here's my arsenal.
For me the Smart Cover's a must. It makes the iPad much easier to hold, protects the screen and, being lazy, I love the instant off feature (and the blue color).
To make the iPad less slippery for classroom use I've added a Cover Buddy back in blue. It has a rubberized surface like the poly Smart Covers.
    http://www.switcheasy.com/products/CoverBuddy/
I always transport my iPad in its own compartment in this small neoprene messenger bag, which also holds accessories, a book or file, and my Kindle:
    http://www.builtny.com/neoprene-messenger-bag-11-13-inches-prod.html
Then, for traveling and field work, I slip the iPad with the Smart Cover and Cover Buddy still on it, into this neoprene hooded case, which has a rigid plastic lining to protect the back and sides. Then that whole thing goes into the neoprene bag again.
    http://www.builtny.com/hoodie-netbook-case-7-10-inches-prod.html
Last but not least, my best case is a two year accidental damage warranty from Square Trade. A lot of piece of mind for 70 bucks.

  • Upgraded Battery and Sleeve for new X61s?

    Hey Experts,
I just received my new X61s.  Do you guys have any suggestions as to a better battery or a protective sleeve that I should purchase?  I'd like to carry the laptop back and forth to class in my messenger bag with my books, and I'd prefer not to have to carry an additional laptop bag.
I'm not sure which battery came with the computer.  I can only seem to find two numbers that may help the savvy identify it:
    FRU P/N 42T5247
    ASM P/N 92P1164
Thanks so much for any advice!

Thanks! Yep, I guess that's my inclination.
The old charger works fine btw (just that it has a small section of exposed wire).
I'll give it one more try with the SMC reset and if that doesn't work I'll probably send them back.

  • Major RAM problems, not booting up

A couple months ago I got a refurbished MBP from the online apple store, and overall I've been happy with it. Except every once in a while, it does not boot and the laptop beeps. I know this has to deal with RAM, so I open it up and push the RAM back in place, and it works fine.
But now, it's starting to become more frequent. I can't even carry it in my messenger bag without the RAM getting loose, and it not starting up. Sometimes after pushing the RAM back into place, it still won't boot.
I'm considering calling up Apple this week for a warrenty repair, but I want to see if there is anything I can do to avoid it.
    Any advice?

If the ram sticks are loose in the slots then taking it back to Apple is the best fix ...

  • MacBook Pro takes a long time to start up or hangs at gray apple logo after minor fall

I upgraded to Mavericks a few days ago. Everything was working fine until yesterday, when my MacBook Pro started taking a really long time to start up or restart.
Before upgrading I had some directory problems which I fixed with DiskWarrior. I then upgraded to Mavericks. There was also a fall that I took, which resulted in the MacBook Pro hitting on one corner and getting a minor dent (It was inside a padded messenger bag when I fell). It worked fine for a whole day, but the next day it started slowing down and getting stuck.
I run DiskWarrior again and there was more directory problems, which were fixed again. When I start the MacBook Pro from an external HD with Mac OS X 10.8, there is no delay in starting up. When I switch to the internal HD, then I get very long delays (5-10min) or hangs at the gray apple logo screen.
DiskUtility did not report any problems, neither did SMART report.
Could it be that the HD got somewhat damaged and gets stuck intermittently? Is it possible to start up OK some times and others to get stuck?
How can I check the HD? Shouldn't the SMART report indicate a problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my main work computer!
    Chris

I think that my Mac was shutdown when it fell, but I am not 100% sure.
I did perform both SMC and PRAM resets. I will also try to run maintenance scripts. Thanks for the suggestion.
It keeps on taking around 10min to restart now, but it has not frozen yet.
The other very strange thing that happens  (and this was the first sign I had when it started acting up) is that Mail.app cannot connect to my IMAP servers (a host provider and Google), even though my Mac connects to the internet. I have the MacBook Pro on the same ethernet network as my home iMac, and I get mail without a problem on the iMac! So something is blocking the mail on the MacBook Pro.
This happened for the first time on Friday and after that I kept having the long delays in startup or freezes I mentioned before.
    Could those two be connected?
When I use an external HD as as start up I can get mail fine.

  • I stupidly spilled water through the keyboard on my MacBook Pro the other night!! :-(

I had my MBP on my nightstand, was changing sheets on my bed...I knocked a big glass of water over RIGHT ON TO MY MBP's Keyboard.  It was open and running at the time.  It immediately goes black!  I turn it over and water literally pours out of it. OMG, I've had it like 2 months!  Anyway, I immediately removed the back and sprayed high pressure air from inside to hopefully clear as much water as possible out as I can.  Then, luckily, I remembered I had some VERY BIG Ziploc bags (Big Bags 15" x 15").  So I put it in the bag with about 2 cups of rice and a handful (5 or 6) small silica gel packets that I keep in my safe.  This was 4 days ago.  I tried it last night...attached the MagSafe power cord and the light just blinked rapid amber on the indicator. I put it back in the bag...no hope left! :-(
Tonight I gave it another try, attached the MagSafe power adapter....and GREEN!!!  Trying not to be overly excited I gingerly hit the power button...SWEET LORD the thing fired right up!!!  A few quirks with the trackpad, but they slowly seem to be diminishing!  I just had to say Apple builds a helluva computer!  Now I just need to remember not to put it on the nightstand next to my water glass!!  Dumb move, but it worked out ok!!  I am in disbelief.  Had to thank God tonight that my $2K+ laptop wasn't ruined by my stupidity AND thank this forum for the rice in the bag advice!  This is my first Mac and besides beating the Windows based units to ****, they're TOUGH!
Recommendation: water + MBP = BAD.  Stupid blind luck and good advice on this forum = working MBP and my thanks to all of you! :-)

Glad to hear things are working out well for you. It is extraordinarily fortunate that you did not permanently damage the MacBook Pro. It is good that you are being more careful.
    Enjoy your machine.
    Safe computing.

  • Bluetooth on iphone 3g not working

    Hi
My blueooth is "on" on my iphone and is "now discoverable" however nothing can 'find' it. My macbook pro doesn't see/read it, nor does my ipad nor does my blueant hands free. All used to and now none of them can read my phone.
I've updated all software, turned on/off, charged etc. Any other suggestions?
    Thanks!

    ??
I find it pretty convenient to sync my contacts and calendar items without having to physically connect my phone. I keep it in my messenger bag or pocket and it'll sync. Also it's very easy to send and retrieve photos.
Wired connections are a thing of the past and the (intentionally!) crippled Bluetooth functionality made me choose a SonyEricsson last time around. Next month I can renew my contract and it will be another SE, by the looks of it.
