MIB: ifOutDiscards

Hi,
a customer is using the following MIB to monitor a WAN interface
RFC1213-MIB:ifOutDiscards
OID  1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.19
and reports lot of errors to me ...
If I check on the the router I cannot see many output drops on the WAN interface
Could it be that we are facing any kind of IOS bug here as we already know that the 7304 IOS versions are not always teh best :-(

Are you saying the ifOutDiscards value is much larger than the "Total output drops: 37688" seen in "show interface"? If so, one possibility is since ifOutDiscards is a 32-bit number, and you say there're a "lot of errors", so between the time you snmpwalk ifOutDiscards and you run "show interface", it has rolled over (reset to 0, then start incrementing again).

    Over the past few weeks Solarwinds is reporting high receive discards on two of our subinterfaces created on Cisco ASA. No errors are observed on other subinterfaces. I checked the trunk port interface on the switch for any errors but found none. These errors are visible only under subinterface. What could be the issue?

    Subinterfaces in PortChannel5
    Nagios Graphs shows:
    - many input discards in virtual subinterfaces
    - many output discards in interface Gi0/2 and Gi0/3
    - PortChannel5 output discards is the sum of discards in interface Gi0/2 and Gi0/3
    if I run the snmpwalk command against the ASA the following results were obtained:

    Output discards may be normals, but I don't understand input discards in virtual subinterfaces of PortChannel5
    By the other hand, show interface command in subinterfaces don't show error or discards packets

  • Unable to collect NIC data for reporting with MIB-II module

    Hi all,
    Here we have SunMC 3.6.1 set up with almost all the available modules, including the complete "MIB-II Instrumentation" one. We also have the "Performance Reporting Manager" feature, and want to use it to generate a hole bunch of performance reports for our Sun servers.
    The problem I am facing is that I try to collect data through the "MIB-II Instrumentation module". I browse into "Interfaces Group", and there I can see all the NICs I have on the system. I would like to record the "If In Octets" and the "If Out Octets" fields. I right-click on these fields, I select the "Attribute Editor", then I click on the "History" Tab, and I choose to save the history on the disk, at each 300 seconds, and the file type is "circular".
    Even after waiting for 24 hours, I don't have access to data that should be recorded. If the Performance Report Manager application, when I list the "data availability" for the server where I activated the collect, all I see is the "Kernel Reader" module collects I already activated: I don't see any "MIB-II Instrumentation" module there...
    On the "Server details" window, when I go the the "Module management" tab, if I choose "MIB-II Instrumentation" module, it is charged and activated. However, when I click on the "Rules" button, the only ones appearing are the following:
    IF Oper Status (1)   rCompare   -   -   -
    IF Oper Status (2)   rCompare   -   -   -
    IF Oper Status (3)   rCompare   -   -   -
    IF Oper Status (4)   rCompare   -   -   -and I find it to be exactly the same for the "MIB-II (Simple)" module... Could it be the reason why I cannot collect the "IF In Octets" and "IF Out Octets" fields?
    Is there a way I can collect more relevant statistics about network usage with SunMC, using the "MIB-II Instrumentation" module, or something else within SunMC?

    SunMC?It sounds like a general problem with PRM: though if the Data Availability tab shows it's pulling Kernel Reader data every hour, then it should show your MIB-II info as well.
    Even then octet counts aren't terribly useful: they're just big numbers that get bigger: you really need to see rates over time to get an idea of what your network is doing.
    You could try the SystemMonitor module that's part of PlusPack:

    It shows MB/minute rates for each interface. If that's the type of info you need then you can enable those numbers for PRM or Reporter instead.

  • Need help to find the correct .MIB-file

    We are using some Nexus 7009 chassis on my work and a program called "SNMPc" that receives traps from our Nexus devices.
    The program do not have the new Nexus 7000 MIBs so we are only getting "pure text" from Nexus.
    We need to download the right type of MIB file so we can get a better understanding of what is happening on the Nexus.
    We can ONLY use ".mib" extensions but Cisco currently only offering ".traps", ".my" and ".oid" files what I can find.
    This is an example message we get:

    Silly question but have your tried changing the file extension of the .my files to .mib  ?  I typically have to do something like that for net-snmp with Cisco MIB files...

  • HP LaserJet 500 support on HOST-RESOURCES-MIB

    Hi,
    We've various HP printer install in our campus.  I've tried to enable snmp in one of the HP printer ( e.g.  HP LaserJet 500 color M551).   Our goal for the HP printer is to have them response the SNMP "hrDeviceDescr"  under the HOST-RESOURCES-MIB when our SNMP manager device send a SNMP request to the HP printer.   I've make sure our query manager device and the HP printer has the same community string running the same snmp v2.  My question is does the HP LaserJet 500 color M551 support HOST-RESOURCES-MIB and how do I turn it on?

  • LaserJet 9050n MiB Variable Issue

    I'm trying to find out what the MiB variable is for the paper level, I did some searching on the internet, found the list of MiB's for LJ9050mfp, and also LJ9000 Series, also the HP Common Lib, but when use the variable listed in each of these against my printer, I get either a no instance, or it error's out since the variable doesn't exist. I don't need the exact amount of paper, I would just like to see if it's empty or not, or even a percentage would be great.     The module you are running requires a minimum software version of 5.1.
    You are currently running 5.0.3 which is why the module is not
    recognized.

    What am I missing?

    I've successfully tried to stay clear of this type of thing as much as I could so my response might be silly.
    But one of the things I recall was that a 'somemib.my' file needed 'thatothermib', that was actually there in the directory as 'thatothermib.my', just like I downloaded it, but the mibcompiler was smart enough to look for 'thatothermib.mib'.
    Not sure if is was referenced in the other mibfile with a specific extension of if it was the compiler trying to stop me.
    Never understood how they managed to make something so simple so complicated.

    Does the Catalyst 2960x-48TD support Cisco's IGMP Snooping MIB?  We have a number of switches from different vendors and have recently begun switching to Cisco's, however unlike the other brands I am unable to audit the IGMP Snooping settings via SNMP.  It appears that while the switch supports IGMP Snooping it does not support the CISCO MIB for IGMP Snooping.  Is this a known bug and is it fixed in any of the later releases?

    Nov 21 15:40:42.390: %MCAST-SPSTBY-6-ETRACK_STATS_LIMIT_EXCEEDED: Number of entries in IGMP snooping explicit-tracking statistics has exceeded the maximum limit (32000)
    The above log message is written because the number of explicit-tracking statistics entries is bounded to avoid monopolizing of system resources by IGMP/MLD snooping. The explicit-tracking statistics database maximum size is set to the same as that of explicit-tracking limit.
    The statistics are split into two banks: permanent and volatile. The statistics entries will be stored permanently (volatile) until the permanent entries threshold is reached, after which the statistics will be stored temporarily up to the database maximum size. When the size of the database exceeds the permanent threshold, a group will be removed on receiving an IGMP/MLD leave. Groups can be removed whether they were installed above or below the permanent threshold. If the number of statistics entries grows beyond the maximum size of the database, then no statistics will be stored for any newly formed groups.
    You can disable ip igmp snooping explicit-tracking by the following
    1) Configure "no ip igmp snooping explicit-tracking"
    2) Configure "ip igmp snooping limit track 0" on global.
    3) After ET is disabled, please do a "clear ip igmp snooping statistics".

    I'm implementing some testing solution.
    I need to comunicate via SNMP with CISCO MDS 9148 FC switch
    I need to:
    Read interfaces status
    Set interface down
    Set interface up
    The question is what MIBs do I need to be able to do mentioned over? I'm using Python + NetSnmp module.

    IF-MIB probably contains what you are looking for to manage interfaces but you will need to load some other mibs as well.

  • Monitor OSPFv3 via SNMP not working - Is OSPFv3 MIB supported?

    I need to be able to query the OSPFv3-MIB via SNMP to track the status of OSPFv3.
    I have setup a 3945 router in a test lab network and I have configured it in an Ipv6 network with OSPFv3.  The router has an active OSPFv3 neighbor and I can use that neighbor to send/receive data (the routing is working fine).  However, when I walk the SNMP MIBs I don't get a response for the OSPFv3-MIB.  According to the Cisco SNMP Object Navigator this MIB should be located at 1.3.6.1.3.102.*.  Below is an example trying to query a particular OID from the OSPFv3 MIB.
    C:\>snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 197.16.18.1 1.3.6.1.3.102.1.5.1.8
    SNMPv2-SMI::experimental.102.1.5.1.8 = No Such Object available on this agent at  this OID
    I can walk other parts of the MIB (For example the OSPFv2 MIB) and get responses, so I know the router has SNMP turned on.
    Looking at the Cisco IOS Mib Locator tool (http://tools.cisco.com/ITDIT/MIBS/MainServlet?IMAGE_NAME=c3900-universalk9-mz.SPA.152-4.M3.bin) for the current software version I am running (c3900-universalk9-mz.SPA.152-4.M3.bin) on a 3945 router it claims that the OSPFv3 MIB is supported in this image.  
    Maybe I need to configure something else?  Maybe my SW doesn't really support this MIB?  Could it be that I have to query the router over Ipv6 to get the OSPFv3-MIB (I have only been trying Ipv4)?

    As Vinod suggested , you need to configure the "SNMP CONTEXT"
    Configure:

    Basic configuration consists of 4 steps:
    Configure mapping between VRF name and SNMP context :
    snmp-server vrf <vrf_1> context <context_1>
    Create community string corresponding to the VRF :
    snmp-server community <vrf_1> RW
    Define context string
    snmp-server context <context_1>
    Configure mapping between context and community:
    snmp-server community-map <vrf_1> context <context_1>
    (optional) Configure snmp server traps for this VRF community
    snmp-server host <IP> traps version 2c <vrf_1>
    For e.g:
    snmp-server vrf miki
    context miki_bgp
    snmp-server community miki RW
    snmp-server context miki_bgp
    snmp-server community-map miki context miki_bgp

  • How to convert MIBs to snmpwalk output?

    Hi,
    I need to develop a monitoring module, but have no access to the actual device I need to develop for.
    If I had the device's snmpwalk output - I could simulate the device (e.g., with snmposter) and start the development.
    Is there a way to convert the device's MIBs (which I do have) to an snmpwalk output?
    Any ideas would be welcome.

    Are you trying to convert the device's MIBs to an snmpwalk output using LabVIEW?
    There is a 3rd party toolkit that may be helpful in this case, however it is not supported by National Instruments.
    I would appreciate it if you can provide more information on your application so that we can understand the issue better.

    I can tell you one thing cause your question is kind of crypto to me.
    You can download the whole mib file for the current image running on your controller from the download software section on cisco site.
    Also you can use the SNMP Object navigator on cisco site to look for whatever you want.
    And if it is  urgent open TAC case cause we are responding on best effort.

    Our servers are currently monitored by a variety of services (HPOV, WUG, Netcool). There is no environmental monitoring currently performed. Environmental would include failed power supplies, hot of non-functioning fans, excessive chassis temp. There's something similar for Cisco like:
    traps for environmental problems are:
         (config)#snmp-server enable traps envmon ?
    fan Enable SNMP envmon fan traps
    shutdown Enable SNMP environmental monitor shutdown traps
    status Enable SNMP environmental status change traps
    supply Enable SNMP environmental monitor supply traps
    temperature Enable SNMP environmental monitor temperature traps
    The question here's. I know is something in Solaris 8 (MIB) that can trigger or tell us something of that kind of environmental issues, how could we setup or compile a MIB or MIBS so everytime those issues come out, we get a notification email for instance?
