Microsoft ACCESS to Oracle

Does anyone know of an easy way to move data from a Microsoft Access Database to an Oracle database ??

Vinculating tables in access to Oracle is an easy way to do that.
How many tables you want to transport to Oracle ?

  • Data Migration from Microsoft Access to Oracle 9i

    Dear All
    This is my first request in your forum,My problem is that I have installed SQL developer but unable to migrate my MDB (Microsoft access file) into Oracle 9i,I have done the following activities in order to migrate data.
    open sql developer
    under migration,click quick migration

    in the oracle tab, input the following information
    input connection name 'zuhair',give user name and password (sys/s),check save password option,give role "sysdba" ,give connection type "basic",didnt check any any check box like os authorization and others,give host name 'zkhan-dfml',port '1521',sid 'dba' and then push the test button and then status show "success"
    in the access tab, input the following information
    input connection name ,input mdb file name by using browse button,after this step click test button then the following message display 'test fail odbc microsoft access driver not a valid password
    I have tried to create odbc link but i think i have done some thing wrong,kindly help

    Zuhair

    Hi Zuhair,
    If you give details of the problems you are still having then we should be able to get SQL*Developer to work.
    However, if you don't want to use SQL*Developer then the following options are taken from note 393760.1 available in Metalink if you have access to that -
    1. Use a gateway that supports the non-Oracle database or generic connectivity if a third party ODBC driver is available to do a -
    'create Oracle_table as select from non_oracle_table@database_link'
    for each table. You would then have to manually create all the other objects (views, indexes, stored procedurs etc) and permissions etc that existed in the non-Oracle database.
    2. Use the SQL*Plus COPY command to copy data from the non-Oracle database to the
    Oracle database using a gateway or generic connectivity. The syntax is as follows:
    COPY FROM username/password@oracle_sid -
    INSERT destination_oracle_table -
    USING query;
    The following example selects all rows from the EMP table in the non-Oracle database and
    inserts them into the local Oracle EMP table:
    COPY FROM SCOTT/TIGER@ora10 -
    INSERT EMP -
    USING SELECT * FROM SCOTT.EMP@gateway;
    where "gateway" is the database link created for the gateway.
    3. Load the non-Oracle data into flat files and use SQL*Loader to put the data into Oracle tables. Again manual
    work is required for the other objects.
    4. Contact the Oracle Product Technology Services (PTS) group for assistance. See the webpage -
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration//workbench/index_sqldev_omwb.html
    5. Use a third party migration tool. See -
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/isv/third_party.html
    6. Use JDBC to connect to the non-Oracle database and Java in the Oracle database. This method will work but it is not suppported by the JDBC team.

    The amount of work involved will depend on the number and size of Access tables that you want to migrate.

  • Microsoft Access and Oracle Forms

    Hello All,
    I have a requirement pertaining to fetching data from Microsoft Access Tables from an Oracle Form and posting that data in an oracle Database 9i eventually.The exact entities from Access Databse needs to be replicated with data upload through Forms9i...
    Please send me the technology aspects of this and an insight how this can be achieved...
    Regards,
    Kapil Uppal

    Kapil,
    If I remember well, there exists a database migration assistant to turn Access databases to Oracle.
    However, Forms9i no longer has an Oracle Call Adapter (OCA)component which would be required to make Forms9i work with ODBC databases. Oracle's database connect strategy is to use gateways instead.
    Removing OCA could be a hot topic to discuss, but the decision made was based on the assumption that Forms9i is Web only and therefore no client side databases are used.
    Not sure if Microsoft Access allows you to perform JDBC connects, as this would be an option to get data into Oracle Forms (requires some coding though).

  • Microsoft Access plug-in for oracle migration workbench

    I would like to migrate from Microsoft Access to oracle 10g,but Microsoft Access plug-in had not found on web site oracle.com.
    Where can obtain the Microsoft Access plug-in?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Oracle SQL Developer 1.2 incorporates the Migration Workbench, providing users with the ability to migrate database objects and data from MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Access to Oracle. Oracle SQL Developer release 1.2.1 can be downloaded from OTN - http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration//workbench/index_sqldev_omwb.html.
    I would recommend that you review the accompanying documentation - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10405_01/doc/nav/portal_booklist.htm - to ensure that you understand how to use the tool for the migration of your MS Access MDB file.

    Hi,
    Did you follow all the steps in the SQL*Developer documentation about preparing the Access database for migration -
    Oracle® SQL Developer User’s Guide Release 3.0 -
    2.2.4.3 Before Migrating From Microsoft Access
    and -
    Oracle® SQL Developer Supplementary Information for Microsoft Access Migrations Release 3.0
    2.4 Preparing the Microsoft Access Database for Capture
    The error also indicates there may be a problem with your Access installation so could you check that everything is okay with that ? I have found references that indicate a re-install of Office/Access will prevent the error.

  • Migrating MS Access to Oracle 11gR2

    Environment 1:
    Windows 7 (64-bit), Microsoft Access 2003 (32-bit), Oracle SQL Developer 4.0.0
    Environment 2:
    Windows XP (32-bit), Microsoft Access 2003 (32-bit), Oracle SQL Developer 4.0.0
    Has anyone succeeded in migrating an MS Access database to Oracle 11gR2?
    In environment 1, I cannot add a connection to the MS Access database.  And, yes, I tried odbcad32.exe from both %windows%\System32 and %windows%\SysWOW64.
    In environment 2, I can connect to the MS Access database.
    I tried to follow "Migrating a Microsoft Access Database to Oracle Database 11g" (http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/db/sqldev/r30/MSAccessMigration/MSAccessMigration.htm), but in the section on "Capturing the Microsoft Access Exported Files", it happily states: "The procedure for creating the Microsoft Access database scripts has been completed for you and the files are available in the zip file provided in the prerequisites." and I cannot find a reference to how those scripts were created, so I'm stuck there.
    The Quick Video entitled "Migrating from Microsoft Access to Oracle" (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/migration/access-084991.html) captures a Sybase database instead, so no luck there either.
    Section "2.2.4.3.1  Creating Microsoft Access XML Files" of the "Oracle® SQL Developer User's Guide" states:
    "To prepare for capturing a Microsoft Access database, the Exporter for Microsoft Access tool must be run, either automatically or manually, as explained in Section 2.2.5, "Capturing the Source Database". This tool is packaged as a Microsoft Access MDE file and it allows you to export the Microsoft Access MDB file to an XML file."  But there's nothing whatsoever relevant to this issue in section 2.2.5.  Nor in the "Oracle® SQL Developer Supplementary Information for Microsoft Access Migrations".
    I tried Tools -> Migration -> Create Database Capture Scripts... but there's no MS Access to select.
    I tried Tools -> Database Export... but cannot connect to the MS Access database.
    Stuck again.
    I tried right-clicking on the MS Access db and selecting the "Copy To Oracle..." option, but nothing happens.
    I tried using Tools -> Migration -> Migrate
    but at the capture stage, I get an error "java.lang. Exception:  The plugin used to capture this model is not available.  Please re-install the plugin and try again before convert."  But I cannot find a reference to a plug-in for MS Access.
    I tried Tools -> Database Copy... but cannot select the MS Access database as source.
    I found ckw460's entry in this forum at https://community.oracle.com/thread/2593134 and found "Oracle Application Express 4.2" at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/downloads/index.html and in the zip the omwb2007.zip (s)he mentioned.  I assume I'd have to use omwb2003.zip, but it is unclear to me how to apply it.
    I.e., lots of frustrations and after well over a day, I'm still nowhere.
    Can anyone assist?
    Kind regards,
    Herta

    Hello Herta,
    sorry for the delay, but just found your thread.
    The MS Access Migration has been dropped from the SQL Developer V4 as the JDK 1.7 does not have the JDBC/ODBC bridge included anymore. The V4 option is only offering the "Copy to Oracle" function which works when you open the MS Access connection, check out the tables present and then do a right click on that table and select "Copy to Oracle".
    Another option would be to use the 3.2 SQL Developer release.

    In the attempt to convert, the Oracle FIRST_VALUE function was used. However, the same results was not achieved.

    A slight correction to odie's post. I think you want min not max to replicate the Access first function, but see below to be sure. So:
    min(upper(trim(tre.dname))) keep (dense_rank first order by tre.gcusno) as dname_std
    user10860953 wrote:How does one ignore null values?The min and max functions will ignore nulls automatically, so if there is a null value in tre.dname, it will not be be returned, unless all of the values are null. For example:
    SQL> WITH t AS (
      2     SELECT 65 id, 'ABCD' col FROM dual UNION ALL
      3     SELECT 37, 'DEFG' FROM dual UNION ALL
      4     SELECT 65, 'DEFG' FROM dual UNION ALL

  • MS ACcess and Oracle CLOBs

    I am trying to transfer data into an Oracle Database from Access. The table I'm aiming at is a CLOB, and Access/Windows ODBC are complaining about the sql data type being out of range. Experimenting with removing fields from my script I have narrowed it down to the CLOB filed. I have tried google searches and found several answers to the error but none that has anything to do with CLOBs
    The table is set up as a linked table and the file dsn looks like this
    I'm using DRIVER=Microsoft ODBC for Oracle in my data source and the Access field I was migrating out of is set as "Memo", but again I've tried experimental loads with more restrictive datatypes and different drivers and not had any joy.
    I all else fails I can dump the whole lot to an excel file and load it through sql developer but for various reasons I would rather go through the access route if at all possible. Can anyone help please?
    Thanks

    Remember that Microsofts ODBC driver for Oracle was designed with Oracle7 in mind. So possibly clob is not supported. (Also driver was deprecated long, long time ago by MS.)

  • Insert Time and Date into Microsoft Access from Lookout

    I have an SQLExec running to export data to Microsoft Access - I would like to get A) A time stamp also to insert and B) A time stamp with out / and : -- I have found it impossible (from my limited knowledge) to do any of these things.
    Dose anyone have a very basic SQL Statement that might guide me on my way?
    Thanks!

    Oracle stores date and time in a DATE column; it all depends on how you have your insert statement. The last insert I specified the date and time
    ex.
    insert into test_date values(1,sysdate);
    insert into test_date values(2,sysdate-10.9);
    insert into test_date values(3,sysdate-8.098 );
    insert into test_date values(4,sysdate-5.11 );
    insert into test_date values(5, trunc(sysdate));
    INSERT into test_date values(6, to_date('01-JAN-2004 19:30', 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI') );

    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:bspipdb");
    Statement st = con.createStatement();
    st.executeUpdate("update tscipshift set 11-Aug-08='M' where TechN='Elamparuthi'");

    you haven't set your user name and password hereI don't believe that's necessary with Access. Then again, it's not an enterprise database.
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:bspipdb");
    change it to this
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:bspipdb","+username+","+password+");
    here pass your username and password...
    In Oracle default user name and password is
    username = scott
    password = tigerSo who uses that? Only an eejit would leave that account open.
    So the statement would be
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:bspipdb","scott","tiger");
    or In Mirosoft Access there is no user name and password so the statement will be Like I said - unnecessary, and not the reason the OP is having problems.
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:bspipdb","","");>
    Besides this change your table name 11-Aug-08 to anything that is not start with number or any special symbols.
    for example aug112008 is good or aug is too good.No, it's still not good if you understand ANYTHING about relational databases and normalization.
    I think it would work.I think you're just as stup!d as the OP.
