Microsoft Lync has stopped working

Hello all,
Microsoft Lync fail to initiate with the error message in title.
I have looked at previous postings related to the same error - and I have tried all of them.
I have for instance disabled and uninstalled drivers for Bluetooth, video, sound etc. I have uninstalled Lync and reinstalled it. I have tried repair. Nothing works.
Any advise?
I am running Windows 8.1 and I use Office 365.

Hi,
Please double check if you have installed any Lync update (especially for Security update for Lync)on the computer before the issue happened, if yes, try to uninstall them and then test the issue again.
It may also cause by the wrong permission for Lync. Please Explore C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15 in File Explorer, right click lync.exe icon, select Properties, click Compatibility tab, select Run this program as an administrator.

  • On Startup, "Microsoft Lync has stopped working"

I have two user accounts on my home laptop. "Personal" and "Business". I'm self employed and work from home. This way I can actually "leave work" and do other personal stuff on my home laptop.
Anyway, this error occurs only on the "Business" login. It works fine on the "Personal" user account. So it is some setting or corrupt file or something on the "Business" account. It's not a driver or app.
Short history. I had the problem come up last week. I backed up all my files. Deleted my "Business" user account. Then re-created it. Lync worked for 6 days. Now it's crashing again. WTH?
(Sorry, but this is soooo frustrating. Office 365, for our business, has been like we bought a brand new fleet of trucks and they are all breaking down constantly).
    Here's the issue:
When I start Lync, I get this error. "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I tried Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Select "MS Office 365 Small Business..." > Change > Online Repair. Then reboot when complete. That didn't work.
I tried to completely uninstall Office 2013 via the FixIt (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501/en-us) > Reboot > Reinstall from the OWA, reboot. And, that didn't work.
    Please see
http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/172/p/255701/784257.aspx#784257 for one suggested solution, which wasn't helpful at all. It's definitely not a driver or program on the laptop.
It worked perfectly fine for months. Nothing new, really. What's going on?
More importantly, what can I do to fix it? (In easy-to-understand, step-by-step, please. I'm a real estate professional and small business owner. Not IT guy).
    Thank you,
    Tom Scott
    Thomas Scott Oviedo, FL

    Lisa,
    OMG, where do I start?!
First, I did post in the Office 365 community and I was directed here, "for a better response".
Your solution is ridiculous, as is about every one I've been given for Office 365. Here's what it's like.
My new 2013 Ford EDGE slips out of gear and stalls out multiple times a week. I pull over, take 5 minutes to reboot it, drive a few more miles, and the same thing. Now I'm stranded on a business trip 100 miles from home.
So, I call the Ford dealership. They give me a 3 page write up how to take the transmission apart, turn an adjustment screw, then put it all back together. Never mind I have a 3 year warrantee and can bring the car in for them to do the work.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 365 more times than I can count, plus all the other rigmarole in between to fix the multiple issues I've had. I paid good money - over $1,000 for a 1 year subscription - for our business to have Office 365.
I've wasted thousands of dollars more in lost productivity troubleshooting this piece of $#@! so we can actually get some work done.
You advertise OneDrive for Business and Share Point Team Sites, "Now up to 1 TB of space". Then you fail to include that the underlying limits of 20,000 items and 10 TB + 500 MB per user, respectively, supersede that. How did I find out? After
wasting almost 1/2 the work day for an entire week trying to upload all our archive and current, working files to OneDrive for Business and out Team Site.
If you guys were an automobile or aircraft manufacturer, there would be a carnage of dead bodies everywhere, would be called before Congress, and brought up on criminal charges.
OK, so yes, I'm upset. I'm upset at being lied to, sold a bag of goods and empty promises, and then expected to fix this stuff myself like a paid employee of Microsoft, not a paying customer.
Get this right, Microsoft. Honestly, you've done it with Windows 7, Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook, to name a few. OneDrive for Business, and now my seemingly unsolvable issues with Lync no matter what MSFT tech support solution I tried, should
be an embarrassment to you, if not outright fraud to the consumer.
By the way, I do have a solution that worked. I reset Windows 8 to factory settings using the refresh feature, which precluded me from having to back up and restore all my data files. Then reinstall all the updates, including Windows 8.1, and all my software.
Then, I had to fix all the OS and software settings to the way I had it. It took most of my Saturday last weekend, but still took less time than continuing to waste it on MSFT TechNet solutions that don't work anyway.

"Microsoft outlook has stopped working". " Windows is checking for a solution to the problem".
    What's the problem?
Also unrelated have this message " only one version of outlook can run at same time". Not sure if relevant.

    Hi,
    1. The current version of Acrobat 11.0.09, you check your version, go to Help menu --> About Adobe Acrobat
    2. Append an email to existing pdf, i assume you mean attaching email as pdf to an existing pdf document.
For that you can follow steps below:
             a. Convert email as pdf, like you know. Once the email get converted to PDF it has portfolio like structure. So you can click on "Open File" like shown in screen shot attached below.
             b. Then how to attach a file with existing pdf you may check steps mentioned in this link: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/X/pro/using/WS58a04a822e3e50102bd615109794195ff-7ca6.w .html

  • Microsoft Excel Has Stopped Working at End of VBA Code

I'm using Microsoft Excel Professional Plus 2010.  My code essentially looks up a date in a different sheet, copies it to another sheet in an organized location, and prints to PDF.  If I run the code for a period longer than a couple months ago,
at the end of the VBA code, it states "Microsoft Excel Has Stopped Working", quits, and recovers.
I added in a piece of code at the end to save the workbook, which it does, then it quits.  I can reopen the document and all my work is saved.  There is something going on I can't put my finger on but for some reason it only happens when I'm dealing
with more information than usual (a couple months worth, possibly only 20-30 rows of info).
Any suggestions?  Thank you in advance!
    Dan

    Hi,
In regarding of the issue, we'd better do some tests to narrow down the issue and find the root cause.
Please copy the file with code to another PC (We'd better use the similar environment) to test.
First, if it works well, this issue might be caused by the Excel or other program in your PC. I recommend we follow this KB to troubleshoot:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2758592/en-us
Then, if the issue still exists, we could collect the Event log and App crash dump file to do deep troubleshoot.
Second, if it still crashes Excel 2010 in other PC, it might be due to the VBA code. I suggest you upload the code and post the issue to MSND forum for Excel to get more help.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=exceldev&filter=alltypes&sort=lastpostdesc
The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Microsoft Excel has stopped working

We are on BW 7.0 and BEx7.0
I have activated BI Content of InfoCube 0WBS_C11 and all it's SAP delivered Query elements. The InfoCube is loaded with data already.
When I run the queries in BEx, I got message "Microsoft Excel has stopped working" on the queries which have only one parameter of  "My Controlling Area", If the queries have other parameters like BWS besides Controlling Area, I got"No Applicable Data Found" .
    Please help, thanks.

We are on ERP Release 604 level 0004 SP SAPKH60404.
Office 2007 or lower is the standard for our users.  When Report Painter and Infoset query reports are displayed in Excel view using Office 2010 Excel and the file tab is selected (to save the file), a box with the message 'Microsoft Excel has stopped working' appears.
We just discovered this issue and are looking for an answer.  The work around for now is to export a spreadsheet file.

  • Microsoft excel has stopped working (on model update...).

    Hi eb
I have chaneged the query of an excel 2013 power pivot model's data source.
On save an update of the models data is launched.
Every thing goes well until the very end of data retrieval (around 27 milion records).
At that point excel crashes with the enoying massage 'Microsoft excel has stopped working'.
I have looked in windows logs there is just one general massage with nothing in it...
    Where would you go looking?
File size at 4.5 milion records is 111MB so at 27 milion should be around 666MB...
    TIA!
    Rea

What version of Excel 2013 do you have installed? 32 bit or 64 bit? It sounds like 32 bit based on your above scenario. When you have excel open, open up task manager and watch your memory usage. 32 bit Excel is capped at 2 GB of RAM, but realistically it
starts crashing right around the 650 MB to 1.2 GB range. (I've seen it crash anywhere in this range)
I'd suggest either limiting your query down to pull much fewer rows or installing the 64 bit version of Office/Excel.
In addition to what SQLBISchmidt has already mentioned, double check that you are only including columns that will actually be used within the Power Pivot model. Be especially careful with columns that have many distinct values (i.e. high cardinality) as
these can be very costly in terms of memory consumption.
Do you happen to have any complex calculated column calculations in the table or related tables? This can also cause these kind of issues if it is indeed memory-pressure related.
You may find this official help article useful in finding a way to reduce the memory footprint of this table: http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/excel-help/create-a-memory-efficient-data-model-using-excel-2013-and-the-power-pivot-add-in-HA103981538.aspx

  • Excel 2013 Error - Microsoft Excel has stopped working.

Just downloaded and installed Office 2013 to my new Windows 8 machine. Every time I try to use one of the Office products I receive the following message:
    Microsoft has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
    Please advise.  Thanks.

Hope my experience helps anyone searching for answers to Excel /Word /Office freezing issues.
I have just fixed frozen Excel & Word applications in Office 2010. This happened
some 6 years ago and as my memory gets a bit more rusty every year, it took me sometime
to remember. First instance was with MS XP and Office 2000 - yes, old like me.
Both instances were with my wife's machine, so you can understand the
situation. I spent into the early hours search forums like this and trying all
sorts of fixes that are listed. In the end, the fix that fixed the problem was
to renew the user profile. That is, register anew user, then transfer all of
the files from the corrupted user profile to the new profile. Not an easy job,
but doable for most of us who are technologically challenged.<o:p></o:p>
If anyone wants to try this, then just remember that there three types of files
that are not copied over.  The following site gives the process.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-NZ/windows-vista/fix-a-corrupted-user-profile
Remember that Favorites, email messages and contacts also need to be copied over.
This fix may not necessarily be the solution for everyone's issues with Office applications
    freezing, but it fixed mine.
I'm now a hero again in my household :)
P.S. I am still using Office 2000 and it's a great suite of programs. Should still be working after I'm long gone.

    Hi,
Please try to open Outlook in safe mode to check if the problem will continue. To do this, exit Outlook, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type:
outlook.exe /safe and press Enter. If the issue would be gone in safe mode, Please disable suspicious add-in in your Outlook to resolve the problem. See:

  • "Microsoft Office has stopped working"

I have Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 running on Windows 8.1.  Word crashes every time I attempt to create a document. Publisher and Power Point work just fine. What's the glitch?

    Hi,
Since when did you start experiencing this crash issue? Have you made any changes recently to your computer?
Please try to launch Word 2013 in safe mode and see if issue persists. If it works well in safe mode, then it is due to add-ins:
Press Win + R and type "winword /safe" in the blank box, then press
Enter. (Please note there is a space between ‘WinWord’ and /. )
Please also check for updates and install any required ones, then check result. It’s always a good idea to keep current with updates.
Hope it helps and please feel free to post back with any findings.

    I am using Windows 7.

    Hi,
Did you install the Office 2013 SP1? Had you try the following steps to narrow down the issue?
Install the latest Windows updates to your computer.
Office safe mode (Starting the application in Safe Mode is a great way to find out if the problem is caused by and add-in. click
Start > Run in Windows 7, and type winword /safe and press Enter to start Word 2013.)
If Word starts ,let’s disable the add-ins one at a time.
With the Office application still in Safe Mode, click File >
    Options > Add-Ins.
Next to the Manage list, click Go.
Uncheck one of the add-ins in the list and click OK.
Restart the application (not in Safe Mode this time).
Add-ins that may cause problems with Office 2013
Earlier versions of these add-ins are known to cause problems with Office 2013 applications:
ABBYY FineReader: Visit this ABBYY FineReader web page to install the latest version.
Broadcom Send-to-Bluetooth: Visit this Broadcom Bluetooth web page to install the latest version.
Intel Send-to-Bluetooth: Visit this Intel web page to install the latest version.
KingSoft’s PowerWord: Visit this KingSoft PowerWord web page to install the latest version.
    =========
If the Office application doesn’t start in Safe Mode, the problem isn’t with add-ins. Go to the More Information section for other reasons why your Office application is crashing.
Please upload the whole event log and collect app crash dump file for further research:
First enable app crash dump collection by copying following words into notepad, saving it as dump.reg and importing it:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\localdumps\winword.exe]
    "DumpFolder"=hex(2):63,00,3a,00,5c,00,63,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,64,00,75,\
      00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00
    "DumpCount"=dword:00000010
    "DumpType"=dword:00000001
    "CustomDumpFlags"=dword:00000000
Once word crashes again, please find the crashdump file under c:\ (file:///c:/).
