Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms Memory Usage

I am using Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms in an application and I have the problem that when I compile the program in 32-bit (x86) mode, we have limited memory space to use (approximately 2 GB). When the user displays a Dynamic Report and moves around in it, or when he closes the report and opens it again, it always occupies more memory space. The memory space is never released. This is a serious problem. Is there a way to make the program release the memory so that the problem of exceeding 2 GB of memory will occur less often?

Youjun, thanks for moving the question to the appropriate forum!
Michael, you are right that some resources are not cleaned up, yet I perceive the culprit to be Microsoft Reporting for Visual Studio 2010, not our own code. Yet before I asked the question here in this forum, I did some research on the Internet and found
discussions about the same problem - it is a known issue of Microsoft Reporting that it does not release the memory it occupies. I adapted some of the code I found in these discussions to our own program and inserted it. This code, however, only releases about
20 - 50 MB of memory once the report window is closed. This is unsatisfactory.

  • Norton reports high memory usage with firefox and it crashes often

Norton antivirus 2011 has pop up warnings reporting high memory usage from Firefox. I have been getting theem often and my computer is crashing often after those pop up warnings. Thanks

    Safe mode did not help.
I have disabled ALL extensions and plug-ins, but the problem with "zig-zag" memory usage still remains (I've not tried to leave browser open for the night yet).
I think I'll do clean reinstall with completely new empty profile (without sync'ed information) to try this out. If this works, I'll start adding stuff (configuration, sync, features, etc) to see what causes the problem.

  • Copy paste text from pdf exported from Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer control with Czech specific characters produced box charactex or ?.

Used Visual studio 2012. In our project there is used the Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer control. In the report handled by the control are TextBoxs with a text with Czech specific characters e.g. (ř, ě, ...) . When exporting the report to pdf,
characters are displayed correctly. However when the text with czech characters in the pdf if copied and  placed into the seach box in the pdf document only box characters are displayed. The TextBox in the report use the default font Arial. When the report
is exported to Word, and then the Word document is saved as a pdf document, its ok. Coping a text with Czech charactes in the result pdf document and pasting into the search box displays again Czech characters not box characters.
Also when in the report handled by the ReportViewer control are several Tex Boxes and some of the boxes contains Czech characters and some not, after exporting to a pdf document there is problem with text selection. When in the pdf document I'm trying to
select several paragraphs, some with Czech characters and some without them, selection behaves strangely and jumps from one paragraph to another unexpectedly.

    Hi,
did you managed to avoid those squares?
BTW: if any such char. is encountered in a line, the entire line of text is grabbled.
I've tried even the ReportViewer from MSSQL 2014, but got the same problem. When I've tried IL Spy, I found a code, where it is checked if the PDFFont is composite - depending on that a glyph is created. But that still only a guess.
I've tried Telerik's reporting, they have similar problem (beside other), but not with the special characters. They produced scuares for some sequences like: ft, fi, tí.
Please give any info you got.
Until then my advices for you:
    a) try JasperReports (seems theyre most advanced, although it is java)
    b) Developer express has quiet quality reports - and it seems they got those special chars. right :D
    c) I created a ticket and waiting for Telerik's response (but if I had to choose reporting, I vould stick with a) or b)

  • MacBook reporting wrong memory usage

My MacBook is telling me I've used all but about 54MB of my 150GB hard drive. There's no way this is correct - I have a 200 GB external hard drive that I use for all music, movies, etc. - and I can't put anything else on the hard drive because it says that it is full. I've calculated the memory used under applications, system, library, users, etc., and it shouldn't be more than 12 GB. I've also only had the computer for about a month, so I haven't had the time to put that much memory onto the hard drive. Is there anything I can do?

Thats an easy mistake to make. Open iTunes and go to Preferences. Under Advanced uncheck where it says *Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library* If you store your music on a seperate drive and don't uncheck this it makes a copy of everything in iTunes on your internal drive. Once you have unchecked it you can remove the music on your internal drive.

  • Hyper-V guest OS task manager reports more memory used than expected

I have a Hyper-V node with 32 GB of system memory and 6 cores (12 logical processors with hyperthreading) running Windows Server 2012 Datacenter.  On this node I have a virtual machine with 4 GB of system memory and two logical processors running Windows
    Server 2008 R2 Standard.
On the virtual machine, Task Manager show that 3.62 GB of memory are being used and 109 MB are free.  This is despite the fact that nothing is installed or running on the vm except the operating system.  The memory usage for all processes for all
users as reported by Task Manager is under 100 MB.
Any ideas on what can be causing such a huge discrepancy between the memory usage reported by Task Manager and reality?  The host OS reports 9.8 GB out of 32 GB memory usage (expected since several VMs are running on the host), but I would not think
that the guest OS would be pegged.

Busy two weeks.  Sorry I didn't respond sooner.
I should clarify that I was not running Task Manager on the host machine, but rather on the guest OS.  Task manager on the VM was reporting incorrect memory usage for the VM.  Task Manager on the host machine was reporting correct information for
    the host.
I would expect that a guest OS should have accurate metrics for its own memory usage as this is usually the case with visualization solutions (Sun VirtualBox, Citrix, VMWare).  Interestingly, although TaskManager on the guest OS is reporting incorrect
(3.62 GB) memory usage, the Hyper-V Manager shows reasonable and likely correct (574 MB) memory usage.  Hyper-V Manager shows 598 MB of "Assigned Memory" and 574 MB of "Memory Demand", whereas TaskManager on the guest OS shows 3.62 GB of memory used.
I would have expected Task Manager on the guest OS to show 4 GB available, 574 MB used, about 3.4 GB free.

  • Cache memory usage of Hyperion Planning, Workspace and Financial Reporting

We have installed Hyperion Planning, Workspace and Financial Reporting in one single server and we would like to know is there any cache memory setting can be fine tuned to improved the overall online performance of the system.
How can we control the memory usage of individual user logged into Workspace and Hyperion Planning? And if users generate a large size report in Financial Reporting, should more memory be allocated to the user so as to speed up the report generation speed?
    Thanks in advance!

Our onsite consultants told us that as we have many web forms and some web forms contains lot of cells, the compiled Hyperion Planning application is quite large (> 1GB) and sometimes may have "out of memory" problem. We just wonder we are using 64bit version of Windows 2003 we should have a much larger memory address space. How can we improve the "out of memory" issue?
Or Hyperion Planning is still a 32 bit application?

    We use win2003,win2008,win2012 servers.
I heard somewhere that Microsoft recommendation threshold of disk usage monitoring is ( free disk space >= 15- 20 %) , if I remember correctly, but how about CPU usage and memory usage monitoring ?

  • OS X Yosemite Safari memory usage

Safari's memory usage under Yosemite continues to increase until system stalls due to paging. The memory gets to about 60G before the stall. Also, the process SafariDAVclient exhibits the same behavior. This started after I reinstalled Yosemite. Reinstalled again, no better.
    Anyone have a solution?

  • "Installer" high memory usage

Hey Guys, I been having problems with my mac. I'm running 10.8.5 on my 2008 Power mac tower and recently I have been having problems with my mac
going real slow. I opened Activity Monitor and Noticed something called "Installer" and it was using 90% of my memory and the only thing I can do is quit the process. Does anyone know why this is happening?

I ran EtreCheck and i'll post my results. I will add more ram after I fix the problem, and adding an SSD is a good option. I thought about it but
I was holding off because I was thinking of buying a new computer. I will try to keep my sysstem drive clean in the future. After Linc Davis posted about the Trojan i'm planning of doing that. I have a cloned mac drive, I updated the other day using SuperDuper.
    My EtreCheck info
    Problem description:
“Installer” app is running using High Memory Usage.

  • Excessive memory usage by app after moving to 8.1.7.8 drivers

    Good day all,
I'm currently working with an app that communicates with an Oracle 8.1.7 database. The app is running on a WinXP system and the Oracle database is running on Win2K. After upgrading the ODBC oracle drivers the app utilizes from 8.1.7.6 to 8.1.7.8 a massive increase in the memory consumed by the app was observed.
    e.g.
One of the functions of the app is to generate a statistical report based on data in the Oracle database. Running this report with the 8.1.7.6 drivers installed would cause an increase of ~20 MB in the memory allocated to the app process. Subsequent runs of the report would not cause the memory usage to increase beyond this point.
Running the same report with the 8.1.7.8 drivers installed cause an increase of ~130 MB in the memory allocated. Each subsequent run of the report causes another 130MB of memory to be consumed. This quickly results in performance hits as soon as the system starts paging memory and eventually leads to a program crash.
Any suggestions on what may be different between the two driver versions that might cause this behavior would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using the Oracle drivers or another vendor's ODBC driver (i.e. Microsoft)? Advanced Security should be transparent to the application...
    Justin

  • Upgrading to FF 27 created huge (~1 GB/hr) memory usage for iconified windows on Mac 10.8

Here is what I know about the problem:
    - Two different Macs (10.8.x, 10.9.x) with 32 GB RAM ran out of system swap due to the size of the Firefox process growing to over 20 GB, and both machines had virtually idle CPUs with no Firefox usage whatsoever - they were unattended
    - It occurred immediately after upgrading from Firefox 26 to 27.0.1
    - The set of pages, tabs, windows was the same before and after upgrading
    - There does not seem to be a single identifiable URL that causes the problem, but opening a window with this URL and then iconifying it causes memory to be leaked at a substantial rate (at least on one OS X 10.8.5 machine)
    - I normally have ~25 tabs distributed across ~8 windows, all of which but one are iconified
    - Memory is consumed at the staggering rate of ~1 GB/hour while the offensive window is iconified
    - Memory is not leaked per-se - about:memory confirms that heap-unclassified memory is growing rapidly, but as soon as the offending window is opened and no longer iconified, the memory usage immediately drops back to the normal ~1 GB or so - this is also verifiable in Activity Monitor.app, etc
    - The problem occurs in safe mode, but regardless the only plugins installed are Shockwave Flash, QuickTime, and Java Applet
    - I have killed Firefox repeatedly and can recreate the same memory usage pattern
    - I have at least one Mac, however, on which trying to reproduce this does nothing
    - I've already spent hours trying to determine even the initial cause of this

Another user was talking about this issue on the forum and created a bug report.

Reading system memory usage in Activity Monitor

A detailed look at memory usage in OS X
Understanding top output in the Terminal
The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.

  • Tracking Memory usage on iOS using the Stats class

I've been checking memory usage on an app I'm developing for iOS using the Stats class https://github.com/mrdoob/Hi-ReS-Stats ( http://help.adobe.com/en_US/as3/mobile/WS4bebcd66a74275c3-315cd077124319488fd-7fff.html#WS 948100b6829bd5a61637f0a412623fd0543-8000).
I added the Stats class to my project and redeployed and, yikes, memory usage reported in Stats creeps up (pretty slowly) even when there's nothing happening in the app (just showing a loaded bitmap).
To try and track down the issue I created a project with a test class that extends Sprite with just this single call in the constructor :-
    addChild( new Stats() );
I deployed it to the device to check that it didn't gobble any memory.
But I was Suprised to watch the memory usage creep up and up (to approx 5) before some garbage collection kicked in and takes memory back down. I left it running and then it crept up again to over 7.5 this time before being kicked back down to just below 3.
So 2 related questions that I'd appreciate any feedback/observations/thoughts on :-
1 - Is this normal (i.e. memory creeping up when there's nothing other than Stats in the project) ?
2 - What is the best way to monitor memory usage within an app ? Is Stats good enough - is Stats itself causing the memory usage ?
    All the best guys !

    Also see thread (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4280020#4280020)
    My conclusions are :-
    - If you run an app and leave it idle, memory usage gradually creeps up (presumably as memory is being used to perform calcs/refresh the display etc)
    - Periodically the garbage collection kicks in and memory is brought back down
    - This cycle could be in excess of 5 mins
Run with your real app and memory will increase and be released much more rapidly/regularly.
    - It's probably worth performing initial checks by running on your desktop to iron out any initial problems

  • Very high memory usage..possible memory leak?  Solaris 10 8/07 x64

    Hi,
I noticed yesterday that my machine was becoming increasingly slow, where once it was pretty snappy. It's a Compaq SR5250NX with 1GB of RAM. Upon checking vmstat, I noticed that the "Free" column was ~191MB. Now, the only applications I had open were FireFox 2.0.11, GAIM, and StarOffice. I closed all of them, and the number reported in the "Free" column became approximately 195MB. "Pagefile" was about 5.5x that size. There were no other applications running and it's a single user machine, so I was the only one logged in. System uptime: 9 days.
I logged out, logged back in, to see if that had an affect. It did not. Rebooted and obviously, that fixed it. Now with only FireFox, GAIM, and a terminal open, vmstat reports "Free" as ~450MB. I've noticed if I run vmstat every few seconds, the "Free" total keeps going down. Example:

In any event, we can see that FireFox is sucking up 145MB (??!?!!? crazy...) XSun, 200MB, and java 190MB. I'm running Java Desktop System (Release 3) so I assume that is what accounts for the the high memory usage RE: java process. But, XSun, 200MB?
Is this normal and I just need to toss another gig in, or what?
    Thanks

  • Very high memory usage with Yahoo Mail

After using Yahoo Mail for an hour or so my memory usage increases to a very high level.
Just now, after reading and deleting about 50 e-mails (newsletters etc.) I noticed Firefox 17 running slowly and checked the memory usage in Windows Task Manager (I am using XP) and it was 1.2 Gb. My older laptop only has 2 Gb of RAM. Yahoo Mail was the only thing open at the time.
I never notice this problem with Gmail which I mainly use. However I use Yahoo Mail for quite a few newsletters etc. that are less important and which I only check once a week or so.
I found the following bug report about 3 years old which almost exactly describes my problem.
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=506771
But this report involves a much earlier Firefox version, and at the end it seems to say that the problem was fixed. However it well describes my current issue with Firefox 17, especially the continual increase in memory while using the up/down arrow keys to scroll through Yahoo e-mails.
Is this normal to have to shut down and reopen Firefox every hour or so to clean out the memory? For some reason I only notice this when using Yahoo Mail. After using many other sites and having multiple tabs open for several hours I rarely reach that kind of memory usage. About the highest I've seen with other sites after a couple of hours is 600 Kb which is roughly when I start notice slower response times.
