Middle mouse to pan an image?

I would like the middle mouse button to pan, and drag the image, and can't believe it hasn't been done yet, or has it?
While searching the web to find out if this was possible, I came across many old threads requesting this feature.
I have the Razer Naga mouse, and even with all the features it has for key mapping I cant find a way to make it emulate the pressing, and holding of the space bar, and the left mouse button at the same time.
Mapping it to the H key is not the same as holding space bar, as it won't automatically return you to the same tool you were using before.
Does anyone know a way this can be done?
Im I overlooking an option somewhere that will allow this to be done?
I have already found the option in preferences to allow the scroll wheel to be used to zoom, but can't see anything for the middle mouse button.

You can set x and y to non-integers, but you will likely see distortion as it tries to render on half-pixels. Most folks will not see single pixel movement as steppy.

Duplicate Pannning With Mouse Wheel Down + Mouse Move to Pan Vision Image

I am trying to duplicate an image panning operation using the middle mouse scroll wheel depressed while moving the mouse.
Code is pretty simple, but pan occurs in opposite direction of normal pan and opposite to direction of mouse. I have tried a number of options to try to reverse this but none successful.
Thoughts?

From testing the code, it behaves as I would expect? The default behavior for pan is to sort of "drag" the image to you. If you want the opposite behavior, you could manipulate the output of Last Mouse Position.

Can I set my middle mouse button to pan?

Is it possible in Preferences to set my middle mouse button to temporarily become the "hand" tool so that I can pan?
I switch back and forth between InDesign CS3 and AutoCAD, and my middle mouse button is PAN in CAD. It drives me crazy to switch back and forth. I'd love it if I could make them the same.
I know that I can use the space bar, but I'm lazy and I've developed habits after using CAD exclusively for the last 3 years. I just started using IND again at my new job so this is the first time I've really had to switch between the two.

Check with mouse manufacturer. There is nothing in InDesign you can set
for that.

Middle mouse click no longer works after recent update

I noticed after updating about 3 days ago that clicking the scroll wheel no longer acts as middle click on my MX Revolution mouse from logitech anymore. Pressing on the scroll wheel use to act as middle mouse click, now it just switches between scroll modes. I would like to have the former functionality returned as I really like to be able to open links in new tabs and paste with just one click.
Does anyone know how I could get this functionality working again on this mouse? All other button functions work as they did prior to the update that changed my scroll wheel click behavior.
Thanks for any help with this matter and please let me know if any other information is needed to diagnosis this problem.

Yes the mouse works in windows, but logitech provides a configuration utility for it and so I use that set it up. In linux there is no such utility to configure the mouse. There use to be btnx and that worked great but it's no longer in the repos or AUR so I don't use that anymore. I haven't done pacman -Sc or pacman -Scc in a while so I should still have the packages to roll back, but I'm not sure what package update caused this. Middle mouse button (Mouse button3) gone

Dear support community
I have a huge problem. I am working on a 3D project where I really need my middle mouse button!
My co worker came by today and helped me. He plugged in his mighty mouse and have assigned the middle mouse to "Application switcher" He then left ofc with his Mighty mouse, and did not assign the middle button back to "button 3" and now every time I use my middle mouse button on my regular USB mouse (Razer Krait) I can't use the middle mouse button, without the Application switcher coming on all the time. I have searched for over an hour now on Google and more and no answers or solutions to my problem at all.
I am not in the position to go out and find, or buy a mighty mouse and plug it in, just to switch back the button 3 function, and it is weekend now, so no co-workers around before Monday, and my project is due to monday

Now when the Mighty Mouse is unplugged it looks like this.
I can't belive it has to be so hard? FYI yes i did used to have an mighty mouse of my own, but it is broken and gone

I just have this problem. I found the culprit file : "com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist" in Home / Library / preferences.
Don't know if it's a problem to delete it, but you can create a new account in the System Preferences Panel (Users and Groups), and then copy this file from the new account to your usual one.
After you can delete or not the new account.
So, the middle button can be use in applications like Davinci Resolve, etc.

Activate middle mouse button in Opera

In the web browser Opera, there is an auto-scroll mode, a.k.a. panning mode that is activated when clicking the middle mouse button. I have noticed that this works in some programs that have a similar feature, like the Microsoft Office suite, but not in Opera. In Opera, the usual "hold middle button and drag" scroll feature of Thinkpads works, but I would like the Opera-specific feature. This would also allow me to pan sideways for large pictures. I can set the scroll function in the settings to "Neither" (i.e. not scroll and not magnify), and that lets me do what I want in Opera, but that also turns off all scrolling in all other programs. And changing mouse settings every time I switch programs is a bit too much of a drag. Since it is possible to turn "Neither" on for specific programs (like the Office suite), I thought it might be possible to do the same for Opera. I fiddled around in tp4table.dat with the Opera setting there, but no effect whatever I do. Does anyone know anything that might help?

Oh, by the way, I am on an X61 Tablet, running XP SP3, but I think this issue is in common to all Thinkpads with a Trackpoint.

Zoom and Pan of image

My objective is to be able to zoom in on an image and be able
to pan the image around within my stage.

You can use ActionScript to create a mouse event to your
image (convert it to a movie clip) and when the user clicks on the
image, he can make the image bigger or smaller. It's not a real
zooming in but if the image gets bigger you do see more.
Is that what you are trying to achieve?

Keyboard & Mouse preference pane not opening

Hello.
Today I realised, that my keyboard and mouse preference pane is not working anymore.
I started the System Preferences app from the dock, clicked on Keyboard & Mouse and nothing happened. In the upper area the text "loading Keyboard & Mouse" appeared (or whatever the English translation is) but the preference pane didn't come up.
I only realised that now, because I created another user and wanted to set the mouse tapping behaviour and in the new account it's not working as well.
I know I could open the pref pane before, when I configured my own account 2 weeks ago.
There was however a keyboard firmware update in the meantime.
Could that have anything to do with this error? Is anyone else experiencing this behaviour? Can anyone give a hint on how to get the pref pane back?

I noticed this problem on a new MacBook Pro as well. However my experience is a little different. First of all I imaged the MacBook Pro from a Leopard (10.5.2) image I made on a Mid 2007 Aluminum iMac. I noticed that after imaging the MBP, I could not load the Trackpad pref pane without glitches. Also the embedded quicktime tutorials for the gestures would not load, as if they were missing. I thought that using an image created on an iMac (which doesn't use the Trackpad Gestures) was causing problems. Then I found out that the user of the MBP sometimes could not even load the K & M pref pane. After some trial and error I found this thread, but Flavio's fix did not work for me. Our Leopard install was done with a custom setup and English is the ONLY language installed. So I can't move English up because it is the ONLY option.
Here is my workaround and explanation for my particular issue. Maybe someone will find it useful.
If you ever have trouble getting it to open again, just click on the Show All button in the upper left of the window. You will see a weird glitch and then all of the preference panes will show up. Then Click on Keyboard & Mouse again and this time it will work. In order to prevent the problem from happening you have to make sure to not leave the Trackpad tab selected when closing the System Prefs window.
When it is working correctly and you open the System Prefs window, If you click on the Trackpad section, it will glitch out and only partially open. Just click back onto another tab (Keyboard or Mouse, etc.) and it will fix itself (similar to the other fix).
Remember, if you select the Trackpad tab and then close the System Preferences pane, the next time you load up the Keyboard & Mouse pref pane it will get stuck indefinitely and you will have to repeat the above procedure to fix it again.
ALSO - I once read an article that listed the filepath of the embedded gesture quicktime files. I believe they are buried in the system somewhere, perhaps in an application package. If someone knows where they are located and could share, maybe I could verify if they are even in my image to help troubleshoot.

I can't believe adobe don't allow you to scroll or pan with the middle-mouse button in photoshop. At the moment, middle-mouse isn't assigned to anything. What a massive waste of potential. In fact, the right-click functionality is useless also.
Can someone at Adobe please make middle- and right-click actually do something so they're not completely wasted.

X-Mouse Button Control
It is free of charge. Install and go to the configuration Middle Button, next choose "Simulate Keystorkes". In window "Simulate Keystorkes" choose in drop-down list "During (press on down, release on up)" and write in form this: {SPACE}{LMB}. Apply changes and enjoy
You can also add this rule only to Photoshop or Illustrator or another by clicking on the "Add"and select the file "exe" and then defining the simulated keys.

I used to be able to open links in a new tab by clicking my middle mouse button, but now that I've updated it to the most recent update it doesn't work anymore. How do I fix this? I really love that feature. It works in IE and Chrome but not Mozilla.

Ok, I used to be able to open links up in a new Tab using my middle mouse button. However, I updated firefox with the automatic Updates on the 26th of October and now I no longer can open links with my middle mouse button. Why? I use this feature just about every time I go searching on the internet so I really would like it back. Why is it that sometimes when I use my middle mouse button to click on a link to open it in a new tab I will have it open it in an entirely new instance of Firefox instead of a new tab?

Occasionally when I click on a link with my middle mouse button, instead of opening the page in a new tab, it will open a new instance of Firefox.
I've looked through some of the settings and I wasn't able to find anything. It really gets to be bothersome at times because I prefer things to be in tabs instead of a new browser.

It's not specific sites. I can middle-click on the same link 50 times and it will open it in a new tab 45 times and 5 of those times, it will randomly open it in an entirely new window. I don't know what's causing this.
It happens so randomly that I don't know how to pin-point what it could be.

How do I change what the middle mouse button/wheel does?

I feel like an idiot asking this, but I can't figure this out...
I've plugged in a bog standard 2 button + scroll wheel third button mouse, but I can't get the middle mouse button/wheel to behave like it would in Windows. If I click it, it changes programs, hold it it brings up the task switcher thing. It's like I'm pressing command + tab.
I want it to work normally, where the program I'm using the middle button responds, not the OS. Like in Firefox, I want to be able to close tabs with the middle mouse button, and open new links with it...instead all it can do is switch programs.
Is there a way to do this? Am I missing something obvious?

I'm on Firefox 3.6.21, and I got this problem today after a Greasemonkey update (To version 0.9.10, apparently).
Disabling Greasemonkey solved the problem, and re-enabling it reproduced the problem (middle-clicking links to open in new tab did not work, merely highlighted the link).
I should also note that while Greasemonkey was enabled and the bug was affecting me, Ctrl+Click to open links in new tabs was also broken.

EDIT: It appears this is a known incompatibility/conflict bug between current versions of Greasemonkey and Tab Mix Plus. Read more here:

How can I get the middle mouse button to work with the toolbar button?

Yesterday firefox stopped responding to middle-mouse clicks made in the bookmarks toolbar. Middle mouse buttons still work in web pages.

I can no longer scroll anywhere on the page by clicking on the red mouse pointer and the middle mouse tab on the laptop

Prior to upgrading to version 4 of Firefox, I was able to scroll anywhere on a page by holding the red mouse button and the middle mouse tab on my laptop. Now, in order to scroll on a page, I need to click on the sliding bar at the right of the page whereas, I was able to do both before the upgrade.

Since today the scrolling started to work for me. Was there a fix auto installed? I havent updated anything that I know about.
I might have uninstall an old Java JRE, don't remember when I did it, could that have done it?
