Mighty Mouse buttons work intermittently

My Mightly Mouse's buttons now work only intermittently. Is this possibly a software issue or is it time to replace this 5 year old mouse?

Sorry for the duplicate post, I am on two different threads concerning this problem. I had contact with Apple Support through the complimentary support for purchasing Lion. They took note that the wired mighty mouse worked with my Macbook air running Lion 10.7.4, that my Wacom pen and tablet could be programmed to right click on my Macpro running 10.7.5 from the App store but seemed stuck on the requirement for a clean install even though I related clean installs from this discussion forum have not worked.
Out of curiousity I tried the USB Overdrive shareware:

My wired USB mighty mouse now works with Lion as it did with Snow Leopard, again to me this points to the release of Lion on the app store.
I am going to write the Apple support case handler again and let her know, I have not heard back from them since November 1, hopefully they are working on the problem.

  • Can (mighty) mouse buttons work w/Lion?

My wired USB Apple Mouse (aka Mighty Mouse) worked fine with 10.5.8 - Sys Pref / Mouse let me assign functions to the left, right, top/scroll, and side buttons.  I just upgraded to 10.6.8 and immediately to 10.7.5 Lion, and although the Sys Pref / Mouse window provides similar settings to 10.5.8, three of the five functions don't work.
The Left button is ok, and the Scroll ball (on top) scrolls ok.  But the Right button acts just like the Left button, and the Top ball/button push and the Side buttons push don't do anything at all.  Thankfully, there are no bizarre problems like the cursor leaping around, and I can hit Control - Left (Primary) button and get the Right (Secondary) button action.
I like my old Mighty Mouse and hope I don't have to get a newer / aftermarket one.  Any help will be appreciated.

  • Corded Mighty Mouse Stops Working Sporadically

    Hey All,
For some reason, my USB corded mighty mouse stop working when I stop moving it. The pointer remains on the screen, but it doesn't move around. The trackball & all the buttons still work, even when the pointer doesn't move. I don't understand why its doing this. It just started recently. Sometimes if I unplug the mouse and plug it back in, it will work again, but it won't work if I stop using it. The only way I can keep it working is keep the mouse constantly moving around. I'd appreciate any feedback that you guys have.
    Thanks

There might be a short in the cord. The area where the cord goes into the mouse body is especially susceptible to this due to flexing back an forth. You can also inspect the cord for any visible damage. It is intermittent, because it depends on how the cord is bending at the time it happens.

  • Mighty Mouse buttons

My Mighty Mouse was working fine, when the buttons went dead. Cursor moves around, and scroll ball scrolls, but neither left nor right buttons do anything.
They just quit. I thought it was the computer, so I force-quit by holding down the power button. Twice. Then, tried the wired MM. That works fine. I haven't changed the battery, as I figure it wouldn't have work at all.

    Thanks for the help, Barry.
Guess what? You know when you got to the mechanic, and your car isn't making that sound, anymore? Same thing happened here. For a few days after it started acting-up, I'd try the wireless. No dice. I just read your suggestion, and decided before I try anything, to give it another shot. Buttons decided to start working. I'm keeping your suggestion handy, though, in case it happens again.
    Thanks again. Happy Holidays.

  • Bluetooth not working = wireless mighty mouse not working too

I've received an apple wireless mighty mouse from my gf and it's not responding to anything. and my bluetooth icon in the top right of the screen says it's not enable everytime since. So it's surely in my imac the problem. Is there a way i can fix it buy myself or i have to send it to an apple store?
N.B. i have the same problem as the rest of the peps who have the latest update of Leopard

"can you tell my why it says that while 2 weeks ago my WIRELESS mighty mouse
was working and that i was able to go into bluetooth icon and it was active???"

  • Does Mighty Mouse only work with desktop Macs??

I just bought an Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse, assuming it'd work with my new Leopard OS X Macbook. I followed the instructions on the Mighty Mouse booklet...but no installation start-up window ever appeared. I'm a beginner with Apple, so I figure I've done something wrong....does the Mighty Mouse only work with desktop Macs and not MacBooks?
    Please help if you can.

Ah! sorry, my mistake! "wireless" was the key word. And yes, prior to my new mighty mouse, I also used the wireless one. And you need to do the following:
    1) Turn bluetooth ON (either from finder icon (you can have it placed on your finder bar by tick box in sytem preferences/bluetooth.
    2) Then, you need to "pair" your mouse via bluetooth setup assistant.
    3) once "paired" off you go.

  • TS3048 My mouse still works intermittently after following the above steps

My 9 month old wireless mouse now works intermittently. I hooked up my old trackball. I followed the steps onthe troubleshooting page -- basicallly changed the batteries and make sure the sensor window was clear. The desk surface is a little rough but it worked fine for 9 months. Any suggestions?

    Hello:
Try resetting the PRAM and SMC.
If that does not work, contact Apple for a warranty replacement (yours is still in warranty after 9 months).

  • Mighty Mouse button doesn't work in Login screen.

When I boot up my Mac I can move the cursor with the mouse in the Login screen, but I can't click on anything - the buttons don't work. Once I'm logged in the mouse works normally in every way.
This only happens with the Mighty Mouse - 3rd party mice work fine in the Login screen.
I can't see any settings in the Mouse System Prefs that would affect this.
    Anybody got a suggestion?

    Nobody got any insights?

  • Mighty Mouse buttons 3 & 4 not working

I am using the Mighty Mouse with a G4 PowerBook and the latest version of Tiger. At first the mouse worked fine. But a few days ago buttons 3 and 4 simply stopped working. I press them and nothing happens.
I checked the mouse preference pane and it was all there as it should be - it still showed the mouse with all 4 buttons properly allocated. Re-installing the software made no difference.
Am I missing something - or has my Mighty Mouse just malfunctioned?

Without using something like USB Overdrive (http://www.usboverdrive.com/USBOverdrive/) then I'm afraid you're stuck with whatever the Mouse preferences allow you to set buttons 3 & 4 to.

  • Mighty Mouse button remapping

Hi, this is about a mighty mouse, not magic mouse, though the principle should be the same.
Some time ago my scroll ball got stuck so I tore the mouse apart to fix it(bad idea) and in the process destroyed the ribbon cable connecting the mouse shell with the board. Effect: No more right or middle click, no more scrolling.
Now I use a 3D program called modo, at times I need a middle click(right click i fix with the trackpad). My question is: Does anybody know how to remap the mouse so that the side buttons do a "Button 3" action.
I am able to set them to "Button 4" in the system prefs but not to "Button 3"
There ought to be a little app that remaps the mouse input, but google doesn't know anything about it.

0 replies...really?  Sad face.  Congrats, Mac.  You are becoming the new Windows.  I wonder who will arise to take the place in the market that Apple used to occupy?  You know, that place where computers, devices, and software just plain worked?  Where Operating Systems were tested thoroughly before release?  Ah, those were the days.  Shame on you, Apple.

  • Mighty Mouse Button Issue

    Hello,
First, let me apologize if it is not the proper section to post my question. I didn't find a relevant section relating to mighty mouse.
I recently was having problems with my scroll on my wireless mighty mouse so I rubbed the scroll ball on a blank sheet of paper, and it worked fine. However, now my left click and right click buttons do not work. They work but they perform what I set for button 3. Whatever action I set for button 3 be that Expose, Desktop, Dashboard, etc it is performed by all 3 buttons now. I am afraid I might have pressed the mouse harder than necessary when cleaning the scroll ball. And now I believe it's stuck pressed permanently. However, when I turn my button 3 off, I can only left click but no right click.
I don't feel too excited to jam open my new mouse, so I was hoping if there are any work arounds this issue. Please help.
    Many thanks!

I fixed it! I just cleaned it again on a piece of paper, not being so rough this time, and it's working properly again.

  • Disable side mighty mouse button in Windows XP

I have a mighty mouse that I use in bootcamp and the side mouse buttons when hit go to the default command "back in browser." I often hit the buttons accidentally only to find myself "hitting the back button" in firefox accidentally. Is there a way to disable the side mouse buttons when using windows xp bootcamp?

    Hi,
I hate this behaviour too. But I found this sw ( http://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/XMouseButtonControl.htm ), that let you disable fourth button and it works fine. I'd like to see scrolling horizontally in Windows. I know there is a comercial driver, but I'd like some free solution.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mighty Mouse stops working after a few hours on iMac G5

    Hello
I got a mighty mouse and it worked perfectly for a while (so I know that I am clicking and using it properly)
...then it just started acting crazy..
    examples:
-I'd have my hand over it(not touching it) and it would register a click
    -randomly registering clicking side-buttons
    -right-click just doesn't work
So I took it back to apple store and got a replacement...no problem.
I plugged in new one...worked fine for a while, then the same problem reappears.
So I unhook the mighty mouse, plugin my MSFT optical mouse...then a few hours later, perhaps a reboot or two... I'll plugin my Mighty Mouse and again it will work fine. Then the whole problem repeats itself.
I don't think the problem is with the mouse..but perhaps how it works on the iMac G5.
Anyone seen anything like this? Its strange it happenned on TWO diff. Mighty Mouses.

    Rob
I haven't gotten any help on it. I mean to call apple but haven't gotten to it. I will try turning off the side buttons when I get to the machine again, but as far as I'm concerned, for approx $50, this thing should work perfectly. I bought it because it has more buttons and turning them off isn't an option. APPLE, ARE YOU LISTENING.
    Please help us!

  • BT Mighty Mouse not working

My MacPro with Snow Leopard operating in BootCamp mode with Windows XP will not load Mighty Mouse as a viable BT device.  It does not recognize the passkey, even with the "no passkey" option.  What's up?

Bob, when you say "turning the mouse on and off," you mean, simply, unplugging it from the USB port, right?
The side buttons of my MM just stopped working totally, as if they weren't there. Unplugging and re-plugging seems to have done it.
Sometimes, however, the side buttons seem to take on a life of their own, randomly clicking just when I put my hand on the mouse. It's rather annoying having all my open windows suddenly visible on my desktop, and maybe a random window come back to the front. Anybody else have this experience?

Might want to see if you can extract the Mighty Mouse installer from the disks which came with your computer using this company's Pacifist software:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
And use it to reinstall the Mighty Mouse drivers.
