Migrate Database to new LUN

Hello,
we are running a Oracle RAC Cluster with ASM.
We will have to replace our current SAN-System.
At the moment there are 5 LUNs assigns to the DB-Servers.
3 LUNs are a Disk Group for the DB Files.
2 LUNs are a Disk Group for the Archive Logs, Controlfiles, Online Logs
How could I migrate the Data to a new SAN?
Do I have assign the new LUNs to the DB Servers and add them to the current disk groups in ASM?
Or do I have to create new Disk Groups in ASM?

Hi,
Sorry, but I'm not a pro in Oracle RAC.You must be very careful to perform these operations.
eg: When you execute the alter diskgroup add / drop disk (EM or SQLPlus), and the prompt is released does not mean you can remove the disks, this command starts the process of rebalance and you need to ensure when disks can be removed.
I suggest you read this thread.

  • Migrating database target to new host

    Hi,
I have OEM Grid control 10.2.0.5 running on Red Hat Linux 64 bit
I have a database target with version 9.2.0.6 and grid agent on this target host is 10.2.0.5.
I want to migrate my this database target from current server to another server and name of server will be changed. I have historical data about this database target in my OEM Grid. Is there any way that i can migrate my database to other server with new name and install agent there but don't want to loose the statistics data about this target database from OEM Grid because as far as i know, i would need to remove this target database and target node, then migrate database to new server(node) then reconfigure this target node and this target database. So any way to do this without deconfiguring the target database during this migration?

    Hi Salman
As server name will be changed , I am not sure if it is possible. What you can do is , just configure database on new server with a different name and keep the old configuration in GRID. In this you target will be unavailable all the time but you can get the historical report about this.

  • How to migrate data from oracle 9i database to new machine 11gr2 RAC ASM

    Hi Expert
I need your expertise to advise me what is the best method to move data from oracle 9i database to new machine running oracle 11r2 RAC database with ASM.
Currently my production server running on HPUX ORACLE 9I database with normal file system. My new server is running SUN SOLARIS SPACR 64 bit ORACLE 11gr2 RAC with ASM. What is best method to move data over so it will be consistent. Any guide can refer.
    Regard
    William

    Hi William,
See the note in metalink Migration of Oracle Database Instances Across OS Platforms [ID 733205.1] to saw the Endian Format of your OS. If is the same you can use the RMAN to convert the database to another OS, if not the only option is using export/import (Transportable Tablespaces).
To upgrade from 9i to 11g, see the note 837570.1 - Complete Checklist for Manual Upgrades to 11gR2.
To migrate your FS to ASM the only way is using RMAN, so see the note - How to move a datafile from a file system to ASM [ID 390274.1].
    Hope this help you.

  • Migrate Mirror Database to New Server

    Hi,
I need to migrate my SQL server Mirror Database to
a new server. my current setup is as below
    1. server A principal (192.168.1.100)
    2. server B Mirror     (192.168.1.200)
now i have a new server (Server C) to replace server B as below
    1. server A principal (192.168.1.100)
    2. server C Mirror     (192.168.1.300)
my question is how to migrate mirror db to new server without any affect or downtime on principal server, please share idea/experience for above.
    note: SQL SERVER 2008R2 EE(64BIT), Win2008R2 EE 64bit.

    Thanks for your quick response.
Is it possible something like in oracle (pardon as i am oracle DBA not sql server guy),
(Oracle Steps to migrate standby(mirror) db to new server)
    1. Pause replication on primary(principal)
    2. Move standby(mirror) database files to new server(using copy/rman/etc).
    3. Update connection information (TNS in oracle) on primary(principal) to point new server.
    4. Start replication on primary(principal).
the above steps will simply migrate the standby(mirror) database to new server,
can we do something like above in sql server?

  • Migration cockpit of new G/L- balance carry forward

    Hi,
I have a question regarding the migration cockpit for new G/L. This a prepaid service of SAP and we are at test stage of migration cockpit. Before migration to new G/L, we have
    posted year-end-postings t-code
    F_TR_01 for Turkey , program RFSUMB00
for all P&L accounts and balance sheet
accounts for year 2007. Thus, all G/L
accounts give a balance of zero for
year 2007. Among the migration cockpit
activities ,do we still need to
    execute transfer balance carry
    forward step?
    Kind regards,
    Gökçen.

    Hello Gokcen,
In your case, you can execute the ' Transfer balance carry forward' step of the GL Migration cockpit, for two reasons:
    1. Since the migration cockpit moves data consistently from the classic GL database tables to the (New) GL database tables, this step needs to be executed.
    2. The cockpit has steps synchronized so that there is no harm in executing a step that may seem redundant. So, better to execute the step than not

  • File opening throws RBS exception after migrating to a new farm with sql 2012

We have successfully migrated the SP 2010 -sql 2008 r2 wss_content to a new sp2010 farm with sql 2012. The old and new farms are configured for RBS - FIlestream.
In the new farm when tried opening a document we see the below exceptions in event viewer. The documents open fine for admin users and fail for others. I have verified all the permissions on the blob store file location and it looks good. Users have no
issue uploading new files over and below the set the file size limit.
Any suggestions on how to debug this would be great, do we need to rerun the .migrate() to realign any of the blob file references, we played around setting the max file size couple of times.

Migration - its a content db backup/restore/mount to new farm with sql 2012 from sql 2008 r2
Okie here are the results after we tried to narrow down the issue to few steps-
This issue happens on documents that are already existed in the content db prior to migration. we picked two docs from one library. DOC A and DOC B of close to same size..
DOC A - file size 64k, rbs max size set to 1mb.
Regular User and SPAdmin both can open fine, check out n check in successfully.
no entries made in event vwr of front end and DB server
DOC B - file size 64k, rbs max size set to 1mb
SPAdmin - can check out n open fine, but cannot check in back - file not available error
Regular User - cannot open the file - file not avialable at the url
Both users can view doc properties at lib level..
Errors found in event vwr of DB server -
"FILESTREAM file named with GUID '00311100-0000-51eb-f3a8-0b387bc5c5ce' that belongs to
FILESTREAM data file ID 0x10001 does not exist or cannot be opened."
    and
"The operating system returned the error '2(The system cannot find the file specified.)' while attempting 'FsDoHandler::CreateFile' on 'H:\Blob_Store\a06953ae-6f49-43b1-9c2d-fefb13bda9fe\1c581a4a-b450-4143-bc3d-8d419b49b0fb\0000eb20-000066ff-0002'
    at 'fstrman.cpp'(2075)."
I incline to believe that the references for documents in blob store could have been corrupted for some documents during the migration. Any new docs uploaded to content or to blob are all accessible fine.
I'm not sure running .migrate() will re align the blob file references? Any ideas on how to effectively get this resolved..

  • Windows 2008 R2 Cluster - migrating data to new SAN storage - Detailed Steps?

We have a project where some network storage is falling out of warranty and we need to move the data to new storage.  I have found separate guides for moving the quorum and replacing individual drives, but I can't find an all inclusive detailed step
by step for this process, and I know this has to happen all the time.
What I am looking for is detailed instructions on moving all the data from their current san storage to new san storage, start to finish.  All server side, there is a separate storage team that will present the new storage.  I'll then have to install
the multi-pathing driver; then I am looking for a guide that picks up at this point.
The real concern here is that this machine controls a critical production process and we don't have a proper set up with storage and everything to test with, so it's going to be a little nerve racking.
Thanks in advance for any info.

I would ask Hitachi.  As I said, the SAN vendors often have tools to assist in this sort of thing.  After all, in order to make the sale they often have to show how to move the data with the least amount of impact to the environment.  In fact,
I would have thought that inclusion of this type of information would have been a requirement for the purchase of the SAN in the first place.
Within the Microsoft environment, you are going to deal with generic tools.  And using generic tools the steps will be similar to what I said.
    1. Attach storage array to cluster and configure storage.
    2. Use robocopy or Windows Server Backup for file transfer.  Use database backup/recovery for databases.
    3. Start with applications that can take multiple interruptions as you learn what works for your environment.
Every environment is going to be different.  To get into much more detail would require an analysis of what you are using the cluster for (which you never state in either of your posts), what sort of outages you can operate with, what sort of recovery
plan you will put in place, etc.  You have stated that your production environment is going to be your lab because you do not have a non-production environment in which to test it.  That makes it even trickier to try to offer any sort of detailed
    steps for unknown applications/sizing/timeframes/etc.
Lastly, the absolute best practice would be to build a new Windows Server 2012 R2 cluster and migrate to a new cluster.  Windows Server 2008 R2 is already out of mainstream support. That means that you have only five more years of support on your
current platform, at which point in time you will have to perform another massive upgrade.  Better to perform a single upgrade that gives you a lot more length of support.

  • After migrating to a new mac; iphoto library cannot save

    Hi,
I'm faced with the problem that since the migration to a new mac; iphoto 11 cannot save any changes to the library. I can import, I can add an album, but if I quit Iphoto and start again every change is gone.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Migrate database using RMAN

    hi masters,
we are going to shift our current production database to a new server. we are currently using oracle 10g R2 on Linux platform.
apart from another options, i would like to know what are the steps that one should follow while doing this migration???
actually i want to convince my seniors that RMAN is safe and easy way to carry out this stuff..
what are the steps and what care should be taken while doing this???
are we going to use RMAN backup file on new server with RMAN of new database with same database name as of old??
    what are the steps??
any suggestion will be value addition.
    thanks and regards
    VD

    Hi V.D.,
You can use RMAN's Duplicate Database command to clone your production on the new server.
    1. Create a password file for the duplicate instance
    2. Add TNS entries in tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files Reload the listener
    3. Create init.ora for the duplicate database
    DB_NAME=<duplicate_database_name>
    CONTROL_FILES=(<newserverpath>/<duplicate_database_name>/control01.ctl, <newserverpath>/<duplicate_database_name>/control02.ctl, <newserverpath>/<duplicate_database_name>/control03.ctl)
    DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT=(<oldserverpath>/<target_database_name>/,<newserverpath>/<duplicate_database_name>/)
    LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT=(<oldserverpath>/<target_database_name>/,<newserverpath>/<duplicate_database_name>/)
    4. connect & start the duplicate database in NOMOUNT mode
    5. connect to RMAN. connect to original database (TARGET), the recovery catalog (CATALOG) and duplicate database on new server (AUXILIARY)
    rman TARGET sys/password@<target_database_name> CATALOG rman/rman@<rman_catalog> AUXILIARY /
    6. dupicate the database as follows:
    DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO <duplicate_database_name>;
    Hope it helps.

  • How to migrate to a new server

    Hi,
I need to migrate to a new server, there is a guide where to find the correct procedure to perform this procedure? Thx

You have to install the database server first on the new machine.
Now take the backup of the database from old connect server
Restore it into the new database server.
Now install connect on the new server
Once the setup is finished and the connect is up and running.
Replace the content folder on this new server with the content folder from old connect server.
This should take care of this.
This is the answer I got from Adobe. I did and successfully migrate my server but once the setup was finished on my new server I replace the content folder before restart the services... Everything went well.

  • Migrating agent to new SAN.

We have 10g (10.1.0.4) agent installed on server XYZ in file system /u01/oem. We are starting to migrate databases to the new SAN and I need to know the process to migrate agent to /u02/oem on new SAN. Is it possible to migrate agent or must I drop the server from the console and add it back to the console after reinstalling the agent? This process would work but I'd lose 30 days of collected data.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
since your hostname will be still the same, there should be no problem. Stop your agent, migrate your database, and change all paths in targets.xml as necessary. A reset of the agent might not be bad.
It's a great pleasure for my sysadmins to move a database from one host to another ;-(( in this cases I have to drop the database from grid control and re-install it.
Perhaps someone know how to avoid the loss of data and user-defined metrics.
    Best regards
    Andreas

Repository Database: 10.2.0.4 Will be hosted on AIX 6.1 (different server from EM Grid control server)
    Agent: 10.2.0.5
Monitored Databases/servers: All the existing servers + Oracle E-business Application
We are planing to install a new grid with option of installing with existing database(New 10.2.0.4 database will be installed). Once new grid start working properly, we will stop old grid.

I am migrating to a new iMac via TimeMachine back up.  My iPhoto libraries are on an external drive.  Both drives are backed up on Time Machine.  I'd like to migrate only the old internal hard drive data to the new internal Drive and then just plug in iPhoto library drive to the new iMac.  This would save having to transfer several hundred GBs of data.  Will this work using Set Up Assistant?

Your user account on the new Mac must have a different UID than on the old one.  See the pink box in Problems after using Migration Assistant for an explanation.
You'll need to change the permissions on the iPhoto library on the external HD.  Do a Get Info on it, click the padlock at the bottom of the Sharing & Permissions section of the Info window and enter your Admin password.
Then click the plus sign, select the user account you want on the next screen, and click Select.   Then change Read only to Read & Write for that user via the little arrows.  Finally, click the "gear" icon and select Apply to enclosed items.  That may take a few mintutes on a large library.

    Hello
I bought my wife a new MacBook Pro, in setting it up for her, I took her Time Machine external drive to migrate onto the new machine but her old MBP not only was on 10.6, it was my old machine which I was still Administrator for.
i plugged in the external drive to start the migration process after entering her name and username from the old machine which gave me the options on transferring the old data over.
I also unchecked the Administrative end that had my info hoping that ONLY her data, files, etc., would be the ones sent over to her new machine which I wanted her to be the ONLY Administrator for. All went like clockwork until the restart.
Normally the screen should show the username and only need the password but both entries were blank, as in ‘Other’ sign in option available only. I entered her name and password, nothing….used her username and password, nothing. Used my old Administrator name and password, NOTHING!
I tried defaulting to factory settings from the Restore feature but it directs me to notify Apple. I tried in Terminal to change the password, nothing. I tried to boot from MY external drive and it doesn’t recognize it. I tried to even use my external drive which actually has the Mavericks upgrade, nothing!
Basically I can only get the startup screen which isn’t accepting the username/password or the Restore feature which doesn’t offer any options helpful!
Please, how do I start from scratch and start over here? Or simply change the Administrator name and password so I can proceed with everything thats already on there? I wish I could even boot from another drive but no luck on anything!

First, on the old machine, make your wife's account an admin one. Log into it and delete yours. Then, update the TM backup. Finally, use Internet recovery mode, ⌘⌥R, erase the HD, and restore the OS. One first boot, follow the steps outlined in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide.
