Migrating between switches

We have a small SAN based on a 9140 switch. We need to expand and have purchased a 9509. I'd like to connect the switches, migrate the connections in my production VSAN onto the 9509, leave the test VSAN on the 9140, and then disconnect the two switches, creating two fabrics. Is there an easy way to do this? I've tried setting up a trunk between the switches but I think I need to create a common domain; as this is disruptive I want to avoid that if possible.

Here is what I would suggest. I assume that the 9140 has all active ports in a single VSAN. I would create that same VSAN number in the 9509, and assign it a different Domain ID. Then connect an ISL cable between the 2 devices. If the VSAN comes up on the E or TE port, the active zoneset from the 9140 should show up in the 9509. If the zone members were created by using the device PWWN, then you move devices over at your leisure. Once all devices are migrated, you can disconnect the ISL to the 9140 and do with it what you want.
In the 9140 to view the current status, here are some commands for the CLI to help you determine what is currently in place.
show vsan membership (shows which physical ports are in which vsan)
show flogi database (shows which devices are logged into the 9140)
show zoneset active vsan x (shows the currently active zoning database for the vsan noted in the command by x)
Steps to do on the 9509.
create the vsan
place the desired number of ports into the vsan
take these ports out of shutdown mode
bring up the ISL between the 2 swtiches
check for the zoneset to show up in the 9509
Again, if the zone members are PWWN, then you can move the devices at your own pace from the 9140, to the 9509. If the zone members are not by PWWN, then you would need to generate the corresponding zones to maintain connectivity as devices are migrated.
If the host/storage are dual attached to the 9140, you can make the migration 1 path at a time and incur no down time.
I hope this helps,
Mike

  • Mailbox migration between two Exchange 2013 servers is horribly slow

    Hi,
when migrating mailbox between 2 exchange 2013 servers,it s horribly slow. I have found some articles which describing problems about content indexing and missing AD group. This is not my problem, I have tried solutions but it didn't work. Both exchange
are next to each one, same VLAN, same switch. Just migrating between databases.
When I start batch jobs it is migrating only 1 mailbox at once and speed is really slow (2000 - 3000 mail items per 5 minutes). So mailboxes which have 10GB it's migrating 3 hours. My server is on 1gbps LAN.
I have also checked MsExchangeMailboxReplication.exe.config on both servers:
        MaxActiveMovesPerSourceMDB="20"
        MaxActiveMovesPerTargetMDB="20"
        MaxActiveMovesPerSourceServer="100"
        MaxActiveMovesPerTargetServer="100"
        MaxTotalRequestsPerMRS="100"
Do you have any idea where to look why only 1 mailbox is migrating at once?
    Thanks

    Hello,
For the reason why only 1 mailbox is migrating at once when you start batch jobs, there is no official articles or blog to explain it.
I recommend you check if the speed is slower when you move a smaller mailbox. If the issue doesn't occur, I recommend you set
    the AllowLargeItems parameter.

  • I'm a Dropbox user and I migrate between my iMac and a Toshiba notebook.  Is there Apple software that will work on the notebook allowing me to open Pages, Numbers or Keynote documents that I've placed in Dropbox?

I'm a Dropbox user and I migrate between my iMac and a Toshiba notebook.  Anyone know if there is Apple software that will work on the Toshiba that will allow me to open Pages, Numbers or Keynote documents when I access them in Dropbox?
Maybe I should just always export from Pages into Word  (and likewise for the other types) before I upload to Dropbox?  I hope not!!

If you don't want to export files and consider the Microsoft formats to be your basic working format, then you need to consider either using MsOffice for Mac or LibreOffice instead of the iWork suite.
You could always run a virtualised OSX on the Toshiba, but I don't think Apple will appreciate me telling you how to do that.

    Hi All,
How can we do the data migration between Oracle Applications and SAP R/3 system. What are all the possible ways to move bulk data from Oracle Apps to SAP r/3 system.
Provide any 3rd party tools which supports data migration and also pls rpovide the SAP's own data migration tools with supports the above feature.
    Awaiting for best possible solution.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V Cluster, VM blue screens after migration between nodes.

I currently have a two node Server 2012 R2 Hyper-v Cluster (fully patched) with a Windows Server 2012 R2 Iscsi target.
The VMs run fine all day long, but when I try to do a live/quick migration the VM blue screens after about 20 minutes. The blue reports back about a “Critical_Structure_Corruption”.
I’m being to think it might be down to CPU, as one system has an E-2640v2 and the other one has an E5-2670v3. Should I be able to migrate between these two systems with these type of CPU?
    Tim

Sorry Tim, is that all 50 blue screen if live migrated?
Are they all on the latest integration services? Does a cluster validation complete successfully? Are the hosts patched to the same level?
The fact that if you power them off then migrate them and they boot fine, does point to a processor incompatibility and the memory BIN file is not accepted on the new host.
Bit of a long shot but the only other thing I can think of off the top of my head if the compatibility option is checked, is checking the location of the BIN file when the VM is running to make sure its in the same place as the VHD\VHDX in the
CSV storage where the VM is located and not on the local host somewhere like C:\program data\.... that is stopping it being migrated to the new host when the VM is live migrated.
    Kind Regards

I've never seen the Migration Assistant resume from sleep - for that matter I've never seen a computer go to sleep while MA was running. (If there's a next time, don't try this without the computer being plugged in.) You will probably have no choice but quit the migration and start over.

  • Is it possible to do a LCM migration between 11.1.1.2 and 11.1.1.4 of epm?

    Hello all,
Is it possible to do a LCM migration between 11.1.1.2 and 11.1.1.4 of epm?
    Thanks.

Like I said, I haven't (literally) touched the product formerly known as Analyzer since 2001, but what I recall was creating a connection to a database and then building reports with that connection. I am going to guess that WA hasn't changed that much.
    The error message you noted:
org.springframework.dao.DataAccessException : error creating essbase Database object.Would that error exist if that database connection (okay, I am probably using the wrong terminology, but you get the idea) existed on the target before the migration.
It might also be worth checking Oracle Support to see if this is a known issue.

P.S. Useless trivia -- I attended training at WiredForOlap's "headquarters" which I was 100% sure was a former home dentist office converted to a software company headquarters. It has to be said that their model worked as that had to be some time in the mid 1990s.

  • 802.1X Authentication issues when moving between switch ports

    Hi Guys,
We are having some issues at our office where when users move from one switch to another, the 802.1X authentication does not want to take place. The PC just gets an APIPA address. Now I have read about features that MAC Move and MAC replace but they seem to be used when moving from one port a switch to another port on that same switch. Will MAC move help for issues between switches? And should I focus my attention on the switch's configuration or have a look at the NPS server that might be blocking that authentication as the user is already authenticated?
My configuration we have on the switch ports look as follows:
    authentication host-mode multi-domain
    authentication order dot1x mab

  • Managing Datasource specification when migrating between environments

    Hi,
We have a Data Services 3.2 realtime job that uses many Base match transforms.
These Base match transforms are used as simple candidate selectors which do not perform any matching and fire native SQL queries.
As we are currently migrating from DQXI 11.6 to DSXI 3.2 we were running this job in our development environment.
So the datasource specified in these candidate selection transforms were pointing to our development database.
We are now migrating to our test environment which has a separate database of its own having the same tables.
So, is there a central place where we can update the database details, so that its reflected in all the candidate selection transforms ?
Or, do we need to manually drill down into each candidate selection transform and change the datasource specification there before pushing the jobs realtime?
In our old DQXI system, each project had a XML file which we migrated between environments and we modified all occurrences of the old datasource with the new one.
Can something similar be done in DSXI ?
Please let me know. Any inputs will be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Saurav.

you can define multiple configuration for the Datastore that you are using in candidate selection, each for DEV, PROD etc env
and Define a System Configuration for each env, in System Config, you can specify which Datastore configuration to use
you can run the job using the System Config of that env
refer techincal manual for multiple Datastore Configuration and System Configuration

  • Multithread causing cache line migration between the CPUs

hi, i have a problem with Sun JVM 1.5.0_15, with the Linux Scheduler in a SMP kernel 2.6, that make individual threads actually move from processor to processor even though they are in a continuous running state and never sleep, causing cache line migration between the CPUs, this slow down perfomance of multithread java applications, that in a Single CPU is faster than Dual CPU, any idea?
    KR
    Clvis

Sun's JVM (HotSpot) doesn't do any thread scheduling, it leaves it up to the operating system. So the o/s is choosing to migrate threads. The obvious things for slowing down a multi-threaded app are lock contention or possibly garbage collection (multiple CPUs allow more work to get done, which means more heap allocation and more frequent GCs if using the same heap size as a single CPU box).

  • Speed between Switches & IDF MDF

    Hello,
I had a question reguarding the types of speed and cable one should use when connecting switches in an IDF togeather, and then connecting those swtiches back to an MDF.
If I connect each switch in the idf togeather with gigabit ethernet, probably cat 6 cables,  how do I know that these 1 gigabit inter-connections will support all the traffic between the switches without issues? What if the right speed that I should have used was 10 gigabit? How often is 10gigabit used to interconnect switches in the idf?
And this is the same issue im trying to figure out with connecting the IDF back to the MDF. Would 1 cat6 via gigabit ethernet speed be enough for all that traffic goign back to the MDF? Is there a general rule or something to follow so that I know what speeds to use when?
Also, why use fiber 1gb vs 1gb over cat6 if distance between mdf and idf is less than 100m.
    Thank you for your time

Regarding your questions about bandwidths between switches, that really depends on traffic volume.  An old rule-of-thumb has been uplink bandwidths might be good at about 24:1 for users and 4:1 to 8:1 for servers.  Such a rule-of-thumb doesn't account for your hosts their bandwidth requirements, and I believe, with higher bandwidth links, ratios can be increased.
For various technical reasons, fiber is generally considered superior to copper, and so is often preferred by many for inter-network-device links, even when copper offers equivalent performance.  I, though, have used gig copper for inter-network-device links with no notable issues (but with huge cost savings).

    Shortly:
Append structures are used for enhancements that are not included in the standard. An append structure is a structure that is assigned to exactly one table or structure. There can be more than one append structure for a table or structure.

If the filename starts with a dot (.thisfile), then it will be hidden on the Mac.
You can use a 3rd party App, such as EasyFind to search for the file on your Mac, and then re-name (remove the dot)
