Migrating Oracle Discoverer Workbooks to OBIEE 11g

Hello,
Can you tell me how can we migrate Oracle Discoverer workbooks in to OBIEE 11g , I have heard that there is a tool which is released in last summer for this migration can anyone provide me details on this one.
Thanks a lot.

Hello
I'm afraid Oracle has had no success in converting Discoverer workbooks into OBIEE. It is still on the radar but as yet they have nothing.
For some of my clients this is a huge setback. I have a client who has more than 32,000 Discoverer workbooks and adding more at the rate of about 5,000 a year. Obviously a customer of this size is a potential customer for OBIEE. The only thing they can do right now is to rewrite all of the reports.
To do this would be a mammoth task and I did some mathematics for them. Let's say you can rewrite one report every 15 minutes, allowing for testing and parallel runs. Thus you could convert 4 in an hour or 32 in a full day. Diviiding 32 into 32,000 means they would need to allocate 1,000 man days to the task. Bearing in mind that on average a person works about 220 days in a year and you are looking at around 5 man years, not including potentially 1000s of new Discoverer workbooks that have been created in that time. Needless to say my client is not happy with Oracle and refuse to go down this path sticking with Discoverer.
I know for a fact this company is not alone and I personally implore Oracle to allocate resources to correctly converting Discoverer workbooks. I know part of the problem is that there are things that Discoverer takes in its stride which OBIEE either cannot do or has great difficulty with. Until OBIEE can do everything Discoverer can do I don't see how customers can convert.
Thoughts anyone?
Michael

No iam not using oracle web cache
Can I get an insight into whether this solution is beneficial? Or I shouldn't even bother.I dont have idea about it,but i think its not beneficial ,anyways there is OBIEE cache that is more than sufficient.

  • Integration of Oracle BI Publisher with OBIEE 11G

    Hi, all.
I want to know How to Integration of Oracle BI Publisher with OBIEE 11G?
Because I can't create data set using Oracle BI Analysis now, and the analyses and dashboards in BIEE presentation catalog is unvisible. Why?
    Thank you.

I may be missing something, but BI Publisher Enterprise is installed at the same time as when you install BIEE on the server. You wouldn't install BI Publisher Desktop on that server. You can use BI Publisher Desktop locally to create templates for use in BI Publisher Enterprise.
I'm much more familiar with XML (BI) Publisher as part of Oracle Apps moreso than BIEE, so I could be wrong in my assessment.
    Hope that helps,

  • Mapping Roles/Groups between Oracle EBS R12 and OBIEE 11g

    Hi,
We are implementing OBIEE 11g with Oracle EBS R12 as source system. Also we are using Out of the box RPD for Oracle EBS R12.
But we are facing lot of challenges to map OBIEE 11g groups and EBS roles and responsibilities. We do not have prior experience with EBS as source system.
Can anyone tell how to map between obiee groups with Oracle E-Business suit R12
Is there any document link or notes regarding this.
Any information regarding this will be a great help.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I am also looking for the solution to implement SSO of OBI 11g with EBS r12, what i understand from your post that you have configured SSO between OAM and EBS R12.
Below is the link to configure SSO between EBSR12 and OBI 11g.
    http://www.astcorporation.com/images/PDFs/White_Papers/2012/AST_White_Paper-EBS-OBIEE_11g_Integration.pdf
I want one clarification from you , once you read the above article what is your opinion do we require OAM integration if we want only EBS SSO with OBI11g ? I am bit confused in this ?
Whats the use of OAM in this integartion ?
    Can you please help me.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • Migration of discoverer workbooks from 4i to 10.1.2.2

Currently all our users are on discoverer 4i and save there workbooks to their local network drive. We are in the process of upgrading to EBS 12 and Discoverer 10.1.2.2 and want to know the best way to migrate users workbooks so that they are usable in the new version of Discoverer. Should we have them save them to the DB before we start the upgrade process or the the workbooks created in 4i work in 10.1.2?
    Thanks

    Hi,
is there a way to import all the workbooks at once?Yes, you can run discoverer desktop from a command file and use the /savedb command e.g.
    dis51usr.exe /connect user/password@database /savedb "c:\myworkbooks\sales.dis"
Could we just copy the .DIS files to the directory on the server where they are stored and would whis maintain security? No, the .DIS files can only be opened with Disco Desktop and will not be converted until they are saved in the database.

  • Migrating Oracle Reports to Publisher in 11g

    Greetings!
We are developing a project with the purpose of migrating some Oracle Reports files to Oracle BI Publisher 11g. We know that there is a tool called BIPBatchConversion available in Bi Publisher 10.1.3.4.1 but I couldn't find this utility in Bi Publisher 11g.
Should I use this utility from Bi Publisher 10.1.3.4.1 and then migrate to Bi Publisher 11g or there is other option available?
    Thanks!
    Ramiro Ortíz.

    Hi Ramiro
    You got it right
    Oracle REports --> 10g BIP --> 11BP
There is a migration tool to take your 10g BIP reports to 11g BIP - I believe its covered in the user docs

  • Drill down report on Oracle R-Enterprise with OBIEE 11g

    Greeting Guru
I see the demo that OBIEE can use the png graphic file produced by R.
Is it possible to produce drill down report that way ?
We are doing statistical analysis and we would like to do a drill down with some of our data visualization results.
    Is there demo/example code ??
    Thanks for the help

    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/options/advanced-analytics/r-enterprise/ore-trng5-operatnlzgrscripts-1501640.…
The link above shows a graphic generated by R got embedded in OBIEE11g dashboard
e.g. on presentation p.42 there is a graphic of flight delays by airport.  top 36 busiest airport
Is it possible that with a double clicks of  JFK, it opens up another reports that is related to JFK let say group it by different airline provider of group by different flight destination for the delay reports.

  • Converting MDX queries to OBIEE 11g

How can I convert MDX queries to OBIEE queries. Im migrating Hyperion/Brio reports to OBIEE 11g reports.

You can always plug in your cubes as datasources into OBIEE and then create the analyses using Answers.
A direct MDX-to-"OBIEE" path only exist if you copy your MDX queries and paste them into a direct database request which uses a conncetion pool pointing towards your cube. That said...you will miss out on a lot of vanilla functionality if you do this.

  • Oracle EBS Discoverer as a data source for OBIEE 11g

We are a heavy user of Discoverer workbooks with Oracle EBS. We're moving to OBIEE 11g(11.1.1.3) and have an RPD with both 3rd party and custom content.
I wanted to ask the experts here how I can leverage my Discoverer investment with out a lot of re-work in OBIEE. I briefly looked at the MigrateEUL.exe and it says it can move an EUL to an RPD, but talks about some limitations for complex EULs such as an EBS Apps EUL. Even if it created an RPD, I'm not sure how I can merge my current RPD and this newly gen'd RPD.
I also heard from someone that there is a way to setup Discoverer EUL as a standard data source in OBIEE 11g and consume it directly. I'm looking for a document or blog that explains these steps. Any pointers or experiences with the above is appreciated!!
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    For some more details, you can refer to the following document;
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/discoverer/discoverer-metadata-conversion-assi-128504.pdf
    My personal expreriences:
The Metadata Conversion Utility is an accellerator / assistant. It does not provide you with an end product. There is some additional handwork requiered. It could be a risk when you copy an old Oracle Discoverer environment. Shit in is shit out. Last but not least; There is not yet a workbook migration utility.

  • Discoverer 4i to OBIEE migration methodology - Oracle Recommended Way

    Hi,
We are looking into a scenario where we are required to migrate large number of Discoverer 4i reports to OBIEE. We have good number of custom reports(approx 200) and views too that are to be migrated.
Am aware about the migration assistant that comes along with OBIEE 10.1.3.4. It's a very useful tool, BUT we need to consider the following facts before proceeding:
    1. The tool is not for migrating Oracle E-Business Suite Discoverer reports (BIS).
    2. The minimum version of Discoverer EUL that can be used with the Assistant is 10.1.2.n.
    3. The version of the RPD file that is generated is dependent upon the installed version of Oracle BI EE that the Assistant is run against but must be a minimum of 10.1.3.4.
What is the Oracle recommended approach... complete rebuild of the repository in OBIEE/ Migration from 4i -> 9i ->10g and then to 10.1.3.4/...?
Appreciate inputs from the product gurus and experts.
    Regards

Ok firstly I'm not sure there is an Oracle recommended approach for migration,.
However based on my experience at an eBS client - the Discoverer workbooks were very different from what we wanted to achieve with our new OBIEE dashboards. The Discoverer folders were based on complex views which joined relevant OLTP tables together and contained both Dimension attributes and Facts in the same folder. They were used by our users mainly to extract data at the transaction level into Access databases, this is something we were keen to move away from, and adopt a more Analytic top down approach, drilling into the detail as in Disco. This did require some additional work with our user base to see what they were actually doing in Access and if we could do this in OBIEE, which in most cases we could (although we did use Apex in places too).
We looked at the migration tool, and it seemed to do a decent enough job technically, however for the reasons above ie. the move towards a top down solution we decided on a manual build approach.
The model for OBIEE had to be different, we broke down the views into their component Dimensions and Facts for - whilst the Physical model was 3NF, we ensured the Business model was a pure Star Schema (this was recommended by Oracle). The Subject Areas were kept quite small, and aligned to the business process, no more than 10-12 logical tables with a couple of fact logical tables, and most of all our dev teams had a set of guidelines to follow to ensure we had consistent repositories (Object Names, Ordering, Logical Levels etc..)
If you are using eBS i would have a look at some of the BI Applications Oracle have produced, you may get a good idea for best practise and standards for producing a repository from them. Also the new 10.1.3.4 dashboard has some examples of good layout, and some nice tips (ie. One Answer per Dashboard page, Prompts at the top etc...etc..)
    Good Luck.

  • OBIEE 11g, Informatica and DAC: Migrating from Oracle DB to SQL Server?

    Hi Gurus,
Currently we are implementing OBIEE 11g with Oracle BI Application for EBS (Supply Chain, Procurement & Finance modules). We have incorporated all OUT-OF-THE-BOX mappings and configurations in DAC, Informatica and RPD (no change, only OOTB). We were using Oracle DB and Linux servers.
Now the client wants to migrate this to one Windows box.
Can anyone point out, what are the changes need to done to migrate to SQL Server database. Any existing documentation or link will be helpful.
Edited by: Sudipta Gupta on Aug 2, 2012 1:59 PM

If you are using SQL Server 2008 then you need to edit the DAC config.bat file replace sqljdbc.jar with sqljdbc4.jar.
Rest of DAC and Informatica configuration is almost similar.
Let us if you come across any issues.
    Hope this helps

  • How to migrate files from "ORACLE EPM 11" to OBIEE 10g / 11g

    Hi
We are moving from ORACLE EPM 11 to OBIEE 10g or 11g .
Can anyone suggest me how to migrate the files from ORACLE EPM11 to OBIEE 10g ?
    Regards
    Vinod.

It would be a good idea to specify the version you are using.
The general plan can be the following:
    A. On source db:
    1. Generate scripts for the tablespaces where the schema you want to export has segments (again use toad or ther tools)
2.Generate scripts for the schema you want to export (use toad, dbms_metadata or other tools)
    3. Generate scripts for system grants, system roles, privileges you have on objects owned by sys, system, quotas on tablespaces
    4. If the schema has grants on sys objects that are not part of the default oracle install but were created later and are specific to that particular db (not a good practice, but it can hapen) and your application is dependent on them, generate scripts for them also (I have come across types owned by sys, when migrating an application with Websphere AS)
    5. export schema using exp owner=<SCHEMA_NAME>
    6. generate scripts for public synonyms and grants to public on object schema
    B. On target db.
    1. create tablespaces with generated scripts from A.1.
    2. create schema with generated scripts from A.2.
    3. grant all privileges from A.3.
    4. if non default objects on sys needed, create them with scripts from A.4., grant privileges on these objects
    5. imp with option fromuser=<SCHEMA_NAME> touser=<SCHEMA_NAME>
    6. create public synonyms, grants from A.6.
    7. check jobs - if you import with sys or system user, jobs will be imported under this users; drop jobs nad recreate jobs under your schema
I hope I haven't forget anything and this helps...

  • Problem migrating from Discoverer to OBIEE

We are migrating from Discoverer to OBIEE 11g and we are finding some problems when creating a measure in Administration Tool that in Discoverer involves the next code:
    NVL(SUM("Extractos (con acumulados)".Saldo)
OVER(PARTITION BY "Extractos (con acumulados)".Cod ejerc,
    "Extractos (con acumulados)".Cgacampa,
    "Extractos (con acumulados)".Cgacocea,
    "Extractos (con acumulados)".Tpprodcod,
    "Extractos (con acumulados)".Producto,
    "Extractos (con acumulados)".Subcuenta1
ORDER BY "Extractos (con acumulados)".Cod ejerc ,
    "Extractos (con acumulados)".Cgacampa ,
    "Extractos (con acumulados)".Cgacocea ,
    "Extractos (con acumulados)".Producto ,
    "Extractos (con acumulados)".Subcuenta1 ,
    "Extractos (con acumulados)".FechaYYYYMMDD ,
    "Extractos (con acumulados)".Contador
    ROWS UNBOUNDED PRECEDING ),0)
We are using the function Evaluate because the SUM function doesn't allow to use OVER PARTITION BY. The problem we are having is that it when we use the measure we get an error that says that window fuctions are not allowed. By taking out the ORDER BY it works, however it doesnt do what we want it to do. It doesn't work either if we add the order criteria when creating the report, we get the same error.
Is there any way to make it work?
    Thanks

I believe you have the desktop client version. Plus and Viewer are Discoverer versions that are typically loaded on a server so that multiple clients can access them over the web. Discoverer Plus and Viewer are components of the Oracle Application Server.

  • Migration of Discoverer 1g reports to OBIEE

we are trying to migrate reports from Discoverer 10g to OBIEE 10.1.3.4.We have migrated the EUL using the utility tool provided by OBIEE.
Now we were trying to use the sample reports and migrate the same to OBIEE 10.1.3.4.
We are using a sample xml which we will be using to migrate the reports .We have a web service which takes report inputs in this XML format, converts and save OBIEE reports.
SInce OBIEE does not have tabs(worksheets) like Discoverer,we thought
we will have to prepare xml for each tab and present it as a single
    report in OBIEE.
    1) Can u please suggest if this is right or there is some
workaround for it or if anyone has idea about it?
We could also do some changes to the xml to incorporate some functions of discoverer if anyone has suggestions.
We are assuming that Crosstab reports are similar to Pivot tables in OBIEE.
    2) But we are not sure how to incorporate the page items in thexml.plz suggest if anyone has ideas since not sure if page items can be handled in OBIEE.
    3) Can someone help us in completing with this below xml by taking example of the sample reports present in discoverer. The values of reports are to be included in the xml
Any help would be great since we are trying this for the first time and we are not well versed with xml too. Please find below the sample xml we are using

    Hi,
I opened the Discoverer administrator and clicked on export.
in next step i selected the option "Selected obects in the end user layer" for "what do u want to export"?
i choose workbook and selected the sample workbook "Video Tutorial workbook"
Then i gave the name "Video Sales Tutorial" and saved the file in a folder and selected the check box "generate xml for exported workbooks"
I got the file in the folder as Video Sales Tutorial.eex.That .eex file had details of the workbook name and all other information
    <UniqueIdent ConstraintName="DOC1" Batch="False" DeveloperKey="VIDEO_TUTORIAL_WORKBOOK"/>
But to get these workbook details we have to always save the workbook in the DB.We cannot save the workbook in our file system.
Am i right?Since only workbooks which are in DB can be exported.
Thanks a lot for the info. Will try to analyze this information
